T*ash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

I enjoyed reading this novel. Although there are only a few chapters atm, I can say that it was interesting. I've always liked the laid back MC's who try to live as they like but in the end they end up stuck with a lot of things due to the circumstances. The MC was thrown in the book he was reading and woke up as the tr*sh of the family, we can consider him as villain A, the first stepping stone of the hero in the story. He tries to... more>> avoid having the same fate as the tr*sh from the original story therefore changing the story and its timeline. This butterfly effect makes the "characters" in the story linked to the MC eventhough he tries to avoid getting involved in them as much as possible. The translation is very good and the rate is quite fast and consistent, this factor adds to the likability in reading this novel.

There's not much to go on so I will rate this quite high atm. <<less

Decided to read it after seeing the translator describing MC as someone who is similar to Yoh Asakura from Shaman King (one of my favorite animes hehe). Even though not much is translated as of yet, it's already quite interesting - it doesn't drag on, like some other similar novels, where MCs seem to have lots of goals and no time to do them yet take forever to achieve.

The MC is easy going and direct, he interacts with other characters in a blunt manner, not hiding his intentions and going... more>> with the flow. If something changes from the storyline that he knows, he accepts it without much fuss, and thinks for his own safety first (though if he can help others without it causing much trouble to himself, he does it). I really enjoy reading this type of personality as it feels much closer than the usual 'saints', 'heroes' or the opposites - selfish transmigrators who care for nothing....

Personally, I sense a lot of character growth and MC becoming a central figure in the coming conflicts as people around him won't let him have the peace that he obviously desires. <<less

In the vein of The Novel's Extra and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, we again find an MC who is stuck inside the world of a novel that he has either created or read. In this case however, the MC is not aware of the entire plot from start to finish, as he had only read partway through it before he awakens in the body of the titular tr*sh.

It's unavoidable for me to read it without comparing it to TNE and ORV, since at the core it is a very similar story.... more>> And I think one aspect that TotCF fails at is how much of the established story we are told about before it's relevant. It means a lot of "wasted" time is spent info-dumping the reader with future events that might have no bearing later on as the course of the story gets changed. It also has an added side-effect of locking the author somewhat into a certain direction. TNE and, to a lesser extent, ORV handles this much better and large parts of the story ahead of us is vaguely talked about and it only really hones in on the parts of it that are relevant for the MC's current situation. I don't know if TNE and ORV's authors had an overaching story plotted out in advance, but this method means that IF they do need to make changes at some point, they've not already entangled themselves into a specific course and thus are more free to make changes.

Because of this, a lot of TotCF's story feels like it's floundering at the starting line, not really getting off to a proper beginning, when a lot of this time would be better spent developing the character's in front of us and the plot in general. It feels like a lot of conversations are there only to fill up a little bit of wordcount and is unnecessary.

I might be coming off as quite negative, but it is still very early on in a story that has some potential.

So my far too early, unnecessary score for now is a solid 3.5/5 which I'll round up to a 4 for now. <<less

I am dreading the fact that I caught up with the updates and I can’t jump into the future to read the complete novel ʕ •︣ - •︣ʔ

Usually reading novels with 500+ would eventually tire me out but I didn’t even realise I’ve already read 700+ and I am still wishing for more. What more can I say, I love everything about this novel. The plot, pacing, world building, characters, their developments, their relationships, etc. I can’t find a single thing to hate nor do I find anything lacking.

Glorious! Very well written and translated and I absolutely love the MC! Many of the characters show signs of depth and it's quite refreshing that he doesn't have a focus on personal power- all the powers he's tried to accumulate so far have been focused on self-defense.

JUST READ IT, I put this off cause some of the negative reviews turned me away. But I should have just given it a chance.

The translation is really good

The story doesn't lean on any heavy tropes

... more>> No harem

Doesn't take long to get going, by chapter 50 you're fully into the story.

The pacing is great, very little dead time.

Cast management is good also. Lots of characters but never overwhelming or confusing.

The MC isnt just OP without consequence

The MC isn't clueless or dense.

The strategies he uses arent overly complex and impossible to follow. Some books try to hard to be smart.

While the isekai aspect has its place, it isn't constantly being shoved in your face. Kinda like how after the first 50 chapters or so of reincarnated as a slime the isekai aspect becomes less referenced. <<less

I’m almost caught up but I absolutely love this novel it made my heart pump, made me almost cry, made me laugh, etc. I love the side characters and I love Cale so much. There’s constant fighting in the novel if you aren’t down for that but each fight scene is so detailed and there were especially some heart moving battles that were extremely amazing to read. There’s always some plot twist the novel kept surprising me. There’s also no female lead or romance (so far) which is surprising cause... more>> all I read is romance usually but I really like that there’s no romance in this cause if Cale gets with someone I’ll probably be upset now cause I’m now a simp for him. <<less

Honestly.

This story is just too good. It's always a question of taste but I can say that there is a clear patern with the "bad" reviews: they have not read the story until the end (or at least as far as we can now). Which is more than understable, who would read hundreds of chapters of something the don't like? But clearly the story was made to be developped over such a long time, it's obvious that character development would take time and all.

I only have one advice. Read it... more>> and see for yourself. It's definitely worth it.

Every single character, plot point, scheme and witty remarks and interactions and it's just so so good <<less

Dammm... this novel is the best, it’s too good that I’m speechless. I just can’t.. it’s too good, the characters feels so alive, even the villains. The plot is freaken awesome and reading every chapters feels so good.

Anyway, are you sure this isn’t shounen ai? Cause man the amount of times Clein slept inside the Crown Prince bedroom is kinda sus... hehe

I just love this novel.. especially that the author didn’t add some romance.. ahhh it’s the best. Keep it up author.

No matter how much I used to love a novel, I had never been moved to the point of writing a review.

NOW, TCF HAS BROKEN MY RECORD

Seriously, this novel is god's gift to this genre, I SWEAR. A smart and practical protagonist who is powerful (yet reasonably so!) but knows to rely on and cares for the people around him (and also knows to realistically use the people around him whether they are initially good or bad), a wonderful and fleshed-out side cast that is unique and have their own... more>> moments to shine and develop, AND excellent writing and foreshadowing that leaves me gasping in revelation always. What more do you have to ask for? Every arc leaves me more awed than the previous, with what I find to be the perfect pacing and speed of developments. Of course, some find the issue of the beginning being 'slow' or how the protagonist 'spoils' what will happen, but let me assure you all that they are handled in much better ways than other novels of the same genre. This novel is definitely a cut above the rest in my opinion.

Moreover, even with how easily I get bored with stories (especially stories of this trope), TCF has kept me engaged and enjoying every moment of reading it for the past 600+ chapters or so.

Misunderstandings are also of the more hilarious type and none of that dog-blood despairingly bitter shenanigans. Since this is my first ever review and I'm trying to keep things as spoiler-free as possible, I'd love to say that TCF is worth your time. It's also worth re-reading in my opinion. TCF is a masterpiece. <<less

well, how can I say it? Im desperate to search this kind of novel. NO HAREM, FULL OF FRIENDSHIP, BROMANCE? HAHAHA

the MC of this novel is good head, he is smart but s*upid at same times. Strong and weak at same times too. The MC want to live peaceful, slack off, or whatever he say but in reality he bulldozing his path toward become a hero, hahaha. Im not over rating it, but its definitely worth to get 5 star!

if you search MC who really get over protective by his... more>> friends, the MC who can make other tearing without himself understand why, The MC who really treasured wherever he go, the MC who always faints and coughed blood, the weak MC but look strong, then you must pick this novel! The most I like thing from this novel is, NO HAREM!! Its bromance lol hahaha, <<less

I have enjoyed this novel since the beginning, it's honestly one of the best transmigration novels I have ever read.

The character development is very good, so it feels like you are also going on the adventure with the characters

Spoiler

.I like the fact that is explains quite a bit on white star, it shows that he hasn't just been looking for those ancient powers only he made an organisation, he also created a city though we know that he doesn't care about both of them but it is not shows that his 1000 Years of life I was not for nothing he he did things

The plots is really nice and what I love the most is that it's not a harem and I love that Cale could have avoided the fight from the beginning but chooses not to

[collapse]

One of the comments was saying that the plot isn't good and is very cliche but to me this novel is way better than most transmigration that you see around, those that change the story and end up being surrounded by a lot of girls and is way to OP and is wondering how it came to this and then drag the rest of the novel out like slice of life, Cale understand why he is the centre of the battle and we see a lot of character development from everyone. I for one think the author did an amazing job in carrying the audience with him and also the characters.

I am really interested to know what happens next because even after 500 chapters it's stil not boring or does it feel like it's just dragging the novel. <<less

I've enjoyed this novel from the start, but what surprised me the most was how intricate its plot is, with all the little hints and clues all eventually building up to tie it together. I also really love how despite there being a war and relatively dark backstories and world-building, the tone of the book is relatively light and hopeful. It's a very feel-good novel! Beyond that, Cale is an amazingly funny protagonist and narrator. I love how he accidentally became a hero in his quest to become a slacker,... more>> how everyone misunderstands his lazy intentions, and how he's a good guy underneath it all. All the supporting characters in this book are basically amazing. It's like Cale just goes around collecting protagonists and then mentoring them. My favorite is Raon, the adorable fierce tsundere dragon. <<less

I have to say, this is one of the few novels I keep up with their updates because it's SO GOOD. Okay some people may find this story repetitive but I like it. The MC is always saying that he wants to live a slacker's life and the plot is created through him solving the main problems of the story to achieve his desired lifestyle. The MC is also viewed as weak in the beginning of the story by all the other characters but as the story progresses, you will... more>> find that their views do change about him.

Also I seriously recommend this novel to those who like the tag: misunderstandings. Let's get this straight. If you gave this novel a bad review just because you found that everyone around the MC doesn't seem to realize his true intentions
Spoiler

and often believes that he's doing is for the good of the people, which is often not the case

[collapse]
, then you're reading the wrong novel. You will see this tag's nature oftentimes throughout the whole novel so if you dislike this theme then I suggest you read something else.

The world development is great in this story, it's quite solid and I would rate it 4.5/5.

The character development may be a bit slow, the MC doesn't change much since he's the one who does the changing (to other characters). The tag: Loyal Subordinates isn't just for show, the MC is surrounded by strong people and this novel places lots of emphasis on doing things together as a group, with your comrades so it's rare to see the MC fight off problems on his own (but it doesn't mean that doesn't appear in the novel). The main goal doesn't change though, so that's something rare in novels which are long winded. I would rate this 3.5/5.

The translation is on point, no worries about grammar or spelling so this is definitely a 5/5.

I'm not a huge fan of spoiling the book so please read it and give it a chance/try, it may be a bit slow in the beginning but it definitely gets better. <<less

I loved this story since the first chapter! It got me immediately hooked!

The MC is the type of person that is too lazy to care but still does because he wants to live a life of a slacker. And by doing so the story-line go kinda off thanks to him. But this is a good thing! Even though he did what he did because of his final objective, a luxurious slacker's life. He still brought faith in many people who didn't have it! I don't understand how can someone even... more>> hate this novel! The MC is such super amiable for me! I mean, he got that perfect scheming mind and a sort-of kind heart! And also have a tendency to save people, but not when saving others means hurting his own people! Yes! Cale is a very responsible kid if I may say so.

Spoiler

Also the protagonist of the story develop a very strong (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) sense of devotion towards the MC.

Edit:

I'm mind blown. *BOOM* The story hits me the biggest plot-twist ever. Everything is connected. E. V. E. R. Y. T. H. I. N. G. And again. Those damn feels won't leave me. I'm crying rivers of tearsss. <<less

I'm not saying this is a masterpiece but that's exactly what I'm saying 🤣 If you still haven't read or started reading this gem... bruh, what the hell have you been doing in your life? 🤨

That won't do! It's time to bring you into our Apple Pie Secret Organization 😤

Why you should read this novel...

... more>> • A REAL clever, sly & cunning MC

• Cale, the MC, is a different type of MC, who wants to live a slacker life & tries to avoid annoying stuff that will make him work hard (but ultimately fails every time). He is also weak yet strong which is entertaining and quite different from most OP MCs. He's not the kind of OP MC who bulldozes his way through the enemies and defeats them singlehandedly.

• Cale has a Master's Degree in the Art of Scamming. The novel's title should be changed to "Scammer of the Count's Family" 😂

• From enemies to allies trope

• Great camaraderie & character relationships 💯

• Hilarious misunderstandings (they're NOT frustrating)

• OP supporting characters actually have important roles during battles rather than solely relying on Cale. No one in their team is baggage. That’s what I like about this novel. Everyone is equally important and have their own roles to play. You cannot dispose one person. One may be stronger than the others but their team actually works well together.

• Fleshed-out characters with distinct personalities. You can't help but get attached to them. 😭❤️

• Character developments

• Cale's plans don't always go the way he wants them to, which make the events & battles more thrilling cause you don't know what might happen.

• Plot is plotting 👌🏻 Sub-plots are interconnected from the very beginning and will make you flabbergasted at how every small sub-plot actually connects to each other. Basically, there are no fillers.

• Supporting characters are given their time to shine. They are given enough spotlight about their backgrounds, past experiences, battles, enlightenment, power growth, etc.

• Crazy plot twists & mind-blowing revelations

• Award-winning scammi— I mean, acting skills and Oscar-worthy performances 👏🏻

• Enemies are not third-rates. They use their heads too and are OP

• Battles are thrilling

Of course, this novel also has its negative parts like:

• Info-dumping (especially at the beginning when it came to the characters involved & the events that happened in The Birth of a Hero)

• Sentence constructions are a bit confusing at times. They often get too long because the author — or maybe the editor — wanted to cram all the descriptions in one sentence making the entire sentence structure confusing. There's a lack of commas too. (Tho this last part is more of a translation issue)

• Overuse of words like flinch, eyes clouded over, etc. (although this is also more of a translation problem)

• Repeated narration of characters' characteristics/descriptions and repetitive narration of past events. <<less

Take note that this novel has been written for five years and the author has made progression on their writing ability. You might not like it early on, but they really improved over the years. I feel that around chapter 300ish is where things start to take a turn.

The story, the characters, the main enemy. Everything starts kicking off later on and its only PART ONE.

I honestly love characters that do that self-sacrificing thing, but not with the intention of dying because they want to LIVE of course. AND it's... more>> neither a harem or love interest. Honestly, I feel like romance would kill this story, I'd rather friendship and comradery than love and marriage. <<less

If you interested in reading this, Please, ignore the 1 star review. There's so many things happen in early phase of the series, Yes. But all the things happen for reason which won't get answers for hundreds of chapter later and when we finally got the answer, it was masterpiece. So many thropes, twist and character development, throughout the novel will blow your mind.

It's a masterpiece!!! I love this novel so much!!! The more you read the story the more you are amazed by the plot that the author made. Some readers maybe find the MC just too OP or exhausting, but our Cale doesn't overpower just because he read the novel and then Isekai or what.. He has more stories that you just haven't read. Anyway, I can't wait for part 2!!!
