T*ash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

Writing this at the latest update... and holy shit.

It's everything the sad*st reader wants: a likable sorta tsundere MC with a platonic harem, plot lines you thought would be loose only to be tied up, and characters teetering on the edge of crazy. I like my books without romance, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for other forms of love. Everyone thinks of each other as family and they're crazily OP on their own. It's good for readers who don't really wanna go through all the training arc stuff... more>> and just wanna get into the fights.

Cale doesn't fight of course. He's lazy and there's literally no time when he's in the middle of a war (although it could be said that the two-year time skip was more than enough time). And besides, training for him would be useless. He's the sort of charismatic dude that just charms you right away even if you know he's morally gray at best. The other characters pull their weight too, and you can see the affection everyone has for each other, perfect for those lonely little souls like me.

PROS:

  • Author never forgets a plot line. If it was mentioned in the first ten chapters then it's probably gonna get resolved in the next hundred. Or hell, a small detail that you could've easily missed plays a big part in the later arcs.
  • Cale knows how to make good use of his resources and doesn't do the 'justice' way. He's not above playing dirty.
  • TONS of misunderstandings. Fun ones. Like how everyone thinks Cale's slacker life monologues are BS.
  • Platonic family. Cale is a father and has like what... four other dads. Everyone holds him in high regard but that doesn't mean they don't know how he plays.
  • SELF-SACRIFICAL MC. All hail these types of characters, never fails to make me giddy. People getting worried while he's ever so oblivious to their growing paranoia makes me :))
CONS:

  • The author's writing style leaves much to be desired. Even the translators are complaining about it. They tend to repeat words and the same information again and again. Probably trying to reach character minimum.
  • It's kind of annoying how the author tries to explain everything to the audience instead of letting them figure it out themselves. I mean for foreshadowing they're great, but when it comes to narrative, they've obviously never heard of 'show not tell'.
  • TONS OF PLOT LINES. So much that to the average reader you're probably not going to grasp it at first. I'm on the slower side so most of the details went over my head... heh.
  • There are not many failures going on here. The side characters have good character arcs that promote their character growth... but Cale doesn't have much going on for him. Not saying that he doesn't have ANY, because he certainly has some emotional growth, but it's not much compared to the rest. That being said, Cale has been badass from chapter one.
OVERALL: 4.2

It's great, really, but you've gotta put in mind the fact that the person writing this review enjoys hot men and — even better — bleeding ones. The writing style is definitely a bit sore to the eye, but hey, anything for Caleism. <<less

I love this series with my whole heart as it is my comfort novel! The whole set is honestly heart-warming and I love found family trope especially. I also find it relaxing that there's no romance, because it fully focuses on friendship beetween the chatacters and the plot. Speaking about the plot, there is always something going on which I absolutely adore and I am amazed by how everything actually connects and makes sense. I love how everything is explained and so well-thought. I recommend it to everyone

Probably the best transmigration novel I've ever read. The plot just keeps going even until now, there's no sign of it ending which, in a way, can be considered being dragged on BUT it all makes sense! Kudos to the author for actually writing the plot in a way that everything is connected, even the smallest details. I love it!

PS. Poor Cale, he just wanted to live a slacker life but he keeps getting pulled into things xD

Love the fact that I can happily read this, which has all the elements I like such as fantasy, shounen, friendship, heart warming, action, mystery, no harem, and my lil raon ^3^

And the fact that MC is a strategist who is always one step ahead of the others in battle of wits and the adventures they do together is what makes it so interesting

and romance is not a necessity for me so.. I can pleasantly read this without any green tea b*tches disturbing my mood

I TOTALLY LOVE THIS!♡

When I first saw this is when it releases as manhwa. Because it pique my interest and I don't really want to wait for too long, I started to read the novel.

I was shocked by my discovery. When I started reading this I can't seem to stop myself from reading more and more. I like the genre, the characters, I meaaaan I love all of them.

Our MC may look weak because of his body, and of course, his companions are always there to look after him, which... more>> I really love. I especially adore the interactions between Raon and Cale their bond is just too preciousss. One of my favorite things is how they smack their enemies on the back, so satisfying! It's also hilarious when the kids start mimicking Cale or picking up his habits, like when he gives that 'scammer smile' or does something totally Cale-like~ it's just too good.

It always leaves me wondering what's going to happen next, and sometimes I get completely shocked because something just pops out of nowhere. Like, you think you already know what he's capable of, then boom—he pulls out another trick from up his sleeve. It really keeps you on your toes, and I love that unpredictability.

Spoiler

Like that moment when he used his ability 'instant' it was so intense. It was so cool, but at the same time, it came at a heavy price. His whole body got torn apart from the inside, and he ended up bleeding so much and fainting from exhaustion. It was so sad, Raon was crying and Alberu and Choi Han witness some of it. It made me almost cry as well.

[collapse]

It's honestly so funny when people admire the MC and start praising him, and he just denies everything and shifts the credit to his comrades. Then those people end up thinking he's this super modest and humble person, and they either get all emotional or fired up because of it. Meanwhile, he's secretly proud of himself for successfully avoiding the spotlight again. It's such a hilarious and clever move, and it never gets old.

Spoiler

Right now, our MC, Cale Henituse, who's originally Kim Rok Soo has actually switched places with the real Cale, who's now living as Kim Rok Soo. In simple terms, they kinda swapped lives. At this point in the story, they're dealing with the unranked monster. They already managed to take down the electric eel, and now Cale came up with a plan where Eruhaben-nim pretends to fall unconscious as the first step. Also, we learn that Cale's mother used to be an ancient power holder, and she actually left part of her power buried in Harris Village. So now, Cale is heading to the tomb where his mother was buried, hoping to find and retrieve that ancient power.

[collapse]

For me, this is honestly one of the best novels I've ever read, in this genre. I've seen some people say it feels a bit lacking because there's no romance, but honestly, I think it's perfect just the way it is. The story, characters, and world-building are already so strong that it doesn't even need romance to keep things interesting.

Honestly I don't have any much say to it cause it seems like I can't get the word out of my mouth, but I assure you this is a great novel. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I truly hope that most people will end up loving it as much as I do.٩ (๑˃◡˂๑) ۶

The Protagonist is dense. He himself doesn't know that the people surrounding him treasures him very much. He says that he's not a good guy but his actions are pretty much acting like one. He's a reckless person in contrast to his brilliant moves. He's pretty much my favorite character in the novel and overall, this novel is amazing in every way.

P.S. Oh and clopeh sekka, I admire your craziness

an amazing novel, no cheap romance, and wholesome friendships. Everything about this novel is what I love, because generally you can't find a shounen novel or manga without 1. A harem 2. Big breasted beauties 3. Flat characters (personality wise)

I worship cale and every character in this novel, truly one of the best novels on this site

(the world building and foreshadowing is insane)

Good novel, but after a while it gets repetitive, stale and pretty boring

There's barely any tension as the MC is always one step ahead of everyone else and his party is so special and stronger than almost everyone else

Also, personally as a romance enthusiast I think it's good that it doesn't have bad romance but the complete lack of any romance at all, from any characters at all not only is weird, it also helps the novel get boring

I do wonder if the author wanted it to have some kind... more>> of gay romance (there's some small possible evidences like the manhwa looks as well as how the novel is always so descriptive and the MC always notes about the guy characters being very handsome or very beautiful and lacking the same amount for female ones), but because it would definitely hinder its popularity they decided to not include romance at all <<less

100/10

I love this book. The character development are nice. There no plot hole (?) well, at least I don't see any. Cale is a very calculative person who love to smack people from the back and every time he did it, it makes me cackle for a literal 10 minutes. I also love how there are no romance. I. Am. Sick. And. Tired. Of. Romance. (just my opinion). I love how everyone just really look up to him and respect him as a (kind, brave, and strong person.) lol. The... more>> thing I like the most about this book is that in every arch, there is always a plot twist and the whole plan just get ruin but in the end, no one dies. I hate it when authors kill their characters just so MC can get stronger but this book, they don't do that. No one dies, happy ending lol. I promise that there are no angst in this book (except like 2 small part that talks about MC past and MC's greatest fear.) Those moment were so emotional... But overall, no angst.

The children are sooooooooooo cute!!!!! I just really want to pinch all of there cheeks ahhhh. The children interaction with each other are so cute, it makes my heart fell so fluffy!! And the piggy banks. So adorable!

Overall, I totally recommended this book. It is totally worth it to binge read 600+ chapter to me. If you actually took my advice and read the book, thank you for reading and have a fun time enjoying Cale smacking and scamming people haha. <<less

Where to even begin? I was looking for actually good Korean novels that had little no cliches, the rinse and repeat stuff and guess what? I found tr*sh of the count's family. Then I started reading this after reading some manga chaps and then continued onto the novel. The protagonist is selfish but that's ok with me. But what's with the recycled reactions of the subordinates of MC who always says " As expected of Cale-nim" I mean what is wrong with this novel. Every arc is the same, MC... more>> wants to laze around but due to some thing or another has his plan of lazying thwarted and is forced to become the main character. Not to mention how cringy the side characters are when all they say that Cale-nim is different from other humans (considering beastman and demi-humans are introduced more than humans). They always sing praises of his kindness, I mean it's fine if it's moderation but it's the f*cking same in every arc. Where was I? Ah, when his plans are thwarted it's always MC making an evil smile and the dragon raon saying that MC is a good person but his smile is evil. Then the arc always ends with MC stealing something from someone and then becomes main character like and then the side characters become his subordinates one way or another. I mean it's always the same. *Sighs* I am done with this novel. The story aside the arcs are utterly tr*sh, as expected from the tr*sh. Don't know why people give it such a high rating. 2 stars is more than enough for this kind of cringy shit. <<less

This novel is really awesome! Like really really awesome! Number 1 rank in my favorite novel list!

Considering the fact that I register to NU just to write this review, this novel

is just that GOOD!

... more>> The early chapter is kinda boring, BUT you'll really get hooked as you read the 20+ chapter!

MC likes to "tell" us his plans into the future tho. So maybe for some readers it's like spoiling the story. I'm fine with it tho. His plans is not always fool-proof.

This novel really ticks all of my preference in a novel.

    • 1. Smart MC that isn't a typical goody two shoes MC (he's a good person tho. Not that he knows.) He prioritize his group and his own safety first.
    • 2. All of the other characters beside MC is also interesting. Loveable characters.
    • 3. No romance, no harem. Just friendship, bromance and family fluff. I leave romance to fanfiction writters to figure that out ;'')
    • 4. MC has morales. He likes to scam and scheme, and maybe looting left and right whenever he went, but he only do all of that to his enemies. Cale is a good boy. *pats Cale.
    • 5. Author is a master at foreshadowing.
    • 6. Author also really good at writing epic stories that makes me feel hyped and excited.
    • 7. Misunderstanding. The good kind.
Now I'm currently waiting anxiously for updates while keeping myself sane by rereading this novel again. Help I'm addicted.

Even if there's no more enemies left for the MC to defeat, I'd gladly read his slice of life arc... But, well... Readers of this novel should know that there's no such thing as slacker life for MC XD. He already played (read: scammed) himself lol. <<less

This novel is my healthy drug.

For those new readers who have read bad reviews, I really suggest that you read the novel first.

I'm not really good at doing reviews, but for the sake of my love for this novel, I will try my best.

As a reader, I admit that the early chapters of the novel are kinda boring, it also made me dropped the novel for a while after reaching chapter 30, but I'm glad that I pick it up again and persevere in reading, and that's when I figured... more>> out that I've pick up a hidden gem.

The plot is cliche with the transmigration one, however if you read more then you'll realize just how well thought and unique the plot of this novel is. The author, oh my goodness, I really love the author! She is a god of foreshadowing just like what the other reviewer said. The things that you have read in the earlier chapters that you have neglected and think of as nothing actually hold a significant value on the later chapters! The backstory of the MC is something that make the readers anticipate and curious, the author really did a good job at that one, unlike the other novels that dropped the MC's backstory at the start, the author takes their time in revealing Cale's past. Drops of hints would appear as sentences in chapters that will make you really question just what kind of past does the MC have? It's one of the aspects of the novel that I really love, it makes the readers think every kind of scenario just so they could guess what is the MC's backstory. The side characters aren't neglected at all, they have their own character development and you see it on every line on the chapters. Another thing I like is the positivity in the novel and the comedy. They are not forced, they come so naturally while reading, and I guess it is also because of this that the emotions strike deeper when you read the novel. This novel doesn't have romance, however every interactions of the characters, especially when Cale interacts with children, are wholesome. Very wholesome, especially when the little dragon enters. The trust, the camaraderie between the characters are something else. Yes, like other novels they're camaraderie formed due to situations that involve life and death, however...I'm really not sure how to describe it, call it being bias, but the camaraderie in this novel is in another level.

All in all, before you believe those bad reviews that haven't even read at least half of the chapters in the novel, you should first read this novel, because you don't know what you'll miss when if you don't. <<less

So many mysteries that I want to know... MC, no, author-nim and translator-nim please satisfied me. It's an interesting transmigration shounen novel I found so far. The characters are crazy, all of them, but funny. The antagonists have their reasons to be bad, not just 'antagonist role'.

I don't know for other people, but it's enough even though there's no romance. I even think that it will only make it bad for this kind of story.

Though... Actually, I want to read from other characters' views.

The worst things about this novel:

  • Unimaginative repetitive onomatopoeia. For example "Bang bang.... BANG!". Use a
  • Overuse of cute characters. For example, kittens seen in the artwork.
  • A character that rarely acts like tr*sh, despite repeatedly telling himself he is.
  • There are psychological dream sequences and flashbacks later in the novel from various character point's of view, which I can only describe as unnecessary.
Due to the above points, after 200 chapters the formula and language does get annoying for me and I started taking month long breaks to avoid getting diabetes from all the... more>> sugar coated scenes.

However, compared to most fantasy novel's listed on this website it is near perfection. You will find it hard to get a more consistently paced, well thought out and intelligent novel in this genre.

  • There are many novelists that nearly achieved this and gave up or slowed down halfway through, perhaps due to writer's block. For example, The Author Reincarnated?! and My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending.
  • Some novels became convoluted included bizarre romances. For example NE and Amber Blade.
  • Some novels devolved into random gags. For example, Expecting to Fall into Ruin, I Aim to Become a Blacksmith
This novel does not. For that reason I give this novel and translation 4.9 stars. "Bang bang.... BANG!" is just too annoying after a few major fights, so it is not a full set of 5 stars. The author or translator should really look up a thesaurus, read a comic book or watch the old Batman TV series for creative inspiration. Imagine if every single fight scene in a comic consisted of "bang... bang... bang".

Variety Examples: Thunk, clang, clank, clash, crash, knock, rap, tap, clamor, howl, roar, screech, squeal, wallop, pow, whip, wham, slam, slap, ding and brakoom. <<less

A beautiful novel imo.

The author of this novel is incredible, the story progression is wonderful and the more you read the more the plot thickens! The characters, both mains and side's development is really entertaining to witness when getting further and further into the story. The author threw a vast amount of different themes into this novel which can majority of the time can be the downfall of a great story but this author has presented it perfectly!! This story has made cry, made me want to spit on the... more>> absolute bastards, made cackle and has made me fawn over every chapter with anticipation. This novel deserves the praise it gets.

ps. This is written by a reader who has spent 2 SLEEPLESS weeks binging this and has no idea why ppl would rate this amazing novel less than 4 stars.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BEAUTIFUL NOVEL <<less

Really loving this novel.

Spoiler

Well yes, the chapters long and sometimes there's some cliche, repeated plot where the MC somehow save the day, but honestly to me the story itself is fun.

Seriously. I love how how the story potrays the MC to really want to throw away all responsiblities to somebody else while problems kept smacking to his face and he can't help but solving it even without anybody told him to.

The lack of heavy romantic plot or harem or women centered writing is a also a plus.

this is an odd novel. Usually, novels start off with a huge impact and form a great impression. But as the story progresses, things usually fall apart, the plot seems meaningless characters start becoming more and more irritating. But these problems don't seem to occur with this one. At least not yet. At the start, I thought it was another one of those 'I entered a game world so watch me beat shit' kinda novels but it wasn't.

the other route that such novels take is of the behind the curtains... more>> mastermind. This one takes this route, but unlike the rest it doesn't go into 10 pages of useless data dump with 15 pages of the emotional rant with another 20 pages of explaining their foolishly simple 'masterplan'. This one is crisp. Maybe the plans and the side-characters aren't the best we have yet but its still enjoyable.

worth the time. <<less

Hello!

I'm side character #8!

After my initial introduction I won't have any character development!

My main thing is that I considered MC to be smart, unique, and incredible, but turns out that he's smart, unique and incredible! What a surprise!

95% of my screen time consists of reiterating this exact thought in this exact words!

The remaining 5% is unnecessary description that were done several chapters ago!
