Su Yu grew up in a single-parent family with his father. He lived a relatively simple life and was not someone with grand ambitions. He only aspired to join a research academy and get a job as a researcher, staying far away from the dangerous battlefield. His peaceful life was shattered one day when his father, a retired veteran, decided to return to the battlefield.

Worried about his father, Su Yu embarked on a journey to gain enough strength to join his father on the battlefield. What was the fastest way to gain strength? Joining a war academy. Or was that really the case? Su Yu soon learned that the path of a researcher was not as it seemed. Unlike the war academies that focused on physical cultivation, the research academies walked a different path: mental cultivation. Which path would Su Yu choose?

Join Su Yu in his adventures as he walks a unique path of cultivation and rises to the apex of cultivation.

One of the greatest novels I have ever read.

I will give my review without spoiling as much as possible. (No spoiler)

In the beginning, it may seem slow for some people based on what they're looking for, maybe some people might view the writing as not as action paced as they believed it would be. I understand, and I respect that.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the start. Since chapter 1, it truly immerses you into the world that the author wrote, and it always left me looking for... more>> more.

The pacing into his introduction to newer places, new social interactions, and the transition of new events never felt forced. In addition, all the characters that were introduced felt like they had their own personalities. Rather than the standard one sided personality templates in usual novels of this type.

The interactions were actually funny and were well placed in the novel. You will get many laughs from reading and thoroughly immerse yourself as if you were journeying with the MC. You will feel his struggle, his pain, his belief, and his naivety as a teen who has yet to grow up and venture into the real world.

The world building slowly sets up a rising action that bursts into the greatest conflict that the MC will ever face, and he slowly grows as a person from his choices that began from the beginning of the novel, to the response of his external environment, and realizing his maturity.

Despite being kind of a cultivation novel, it is similar to a bildungsroman (a specific genre of literature about the growth and education that a character undergoes from lost child to mature adult) as he undertakes his growth as a person to become (i cannot say) yes yes in the world.

I very much recommend this novel if you enjoy a well-paced, and well written novel with absolutely no cliches that you would normally get commonly.

However, if you prefer super past faced novels and feel like world building lore as a chore, this might not be a good choice for you. To each their own. <<less

Love the MC.

One of my pet peeves in novels generally is when an author presents the MC as super amazing but as a reader you feel like they're just a clueless salted fish who is 100% being carried by their OP cheat. That's definitely not the case in this novel. The MC's success feels earned.

Su Yu is VERY devious/crafty & daring. Sure, he leverages his advantages, but he also works incredibly hard for his success (I doubt anyone else put into his situation could've achieved what he did). And by... more>> working hard, I don't just mean "he trains a lot"— which he does do— but rather that he actually uses his brain (he has great situational awareness; both street smart and book smart) to proactively scheme against and outsmart other characters (who for the most part are well-rounded, normal, rational people, as opposed to being clueless dummies as in many other novels).

Su Yu is also temperamental, petty, self-serving, bratty, arrogant, etc... and yet he's likeable and we root for him all the way, because he's super entertaining to read about.

Note: WuxiaWorld has the superior English translation, however I've been reading it on Webnovel (currently chapter 3792 on WebNovel). The chapter numbering isn't equivalent though, because moneygrubbing WN splits up 1 original chapter into 3+ translated chapters. <<less

Great story

It's a lot longer than you think if you've just read the translated chapters. I think the final novel would be around 2700 chapters if they each have 2000 words.

The only negatives are that there are no side stories and I felt some of the justifications/set-ups weren't done well enough

It has a whiff of chinese propaganda, but so far that stuff is not too intolerable.

In spite of this, however, this novel is really well written, has a detailed characters and character interactions. There is no 'young master' types, and even the small villains are thoughtful and intelligent. There are some tropes but you don't really notice it, and the pacing though quite slow, never feels like filler. One thing is that even though the world is filled up pretty well and there is a lot of explanation about setting,... more>> specifically the daily interactions, the whole scope of the world is not really well explored.

Spoiler

We don't really know much about other realms, the allHeaven Battlefield, about devils and divines or even the history of the world. I think the author probably hasn't outlined this and so is leaving it blank incase they step on themselves later. Also even though there is info about their culitvation, the actual cultivation system is not necessarily that well explored or explained. There is not much breath to the world building

[collapse]

Still, while the world building could be better, the characters are really the highlights of this novel

Spoiler

Even though the MC has some of that chinese nationalism element, "human realm" is symbolism for china, and is hot headed on this one topic, overall he's very smart, funny, but also naive and can be tricked as well. So he's quite complex. Bai Feng, his master, and some of the other characters and their interactions are all pretty funny.

[collapse]

Overall, while I wish the pacing was a bit better, and the world building more concrete, this novel is really funny, well written, and generally a worthwhile read. The only that could tarnish this is the chinese propaganda/imperliasim/nationalism thats interwoven in this novel. If you catch some elements of that don't immediately stop because the author actually deals with it with some nuance, so it's not completly brain dead takes (like some other novels on here). Hopefully, this small flaw doesn't grow bigger as I read more. But overall this is in the upper echelon of novels on this site.

also the chapters are long which is a plus for me

Edit: As the character gets stronger and we leave alot of the original setting behind, this novel loses alot of it's strengths, and the weaknesses grow stronger. The main strength of this novel is not the world building, or the setting, or really even the plot. It's the characters. I feel all the intersting characters that were made kind of get left behind, and the new ones are not explored to the same degree. It also feels pretty repetitive in terms of plot, and the main character I guess you could is complex, but honestly he seems kind of s*upid or stubborn, but this is not really that bad, as the author makes it more like character traits and you can kind of accept it as he's growing and changing.

If I were to rate it again I would give it a 4/5, and most of that score is resting on the older chapters.

Also the chinese propoganda aspect is kind of annoying but the author is smart enough to toe the line where it's not too annoying, though it still is pretty annoying. <<less

First, I would like to say that the tags on this novel are greatly misleading. The amount of action scenes I've encountered after reading over 700 chapters can be counted on two hands to which most of them are just MC face slapping everyone around him. The main reason I continue to read this novel is because of the constantly talked about Allheaven battlefield, which is said to be a meat grinder where even the mightiest can fall, and the MC repeatedly vows to go to but the author for... more>> some reason seems to continue to put off sending the MC there. In my opinion I doubt the author even after writing 700/966 chapters has even written a basic outline about this realm which is the key to the story. This novel is so utterly boring that I often feel like each chapter is a wall of text without any purpose. The story is legitimately a slice of life novel where 700 chapters equal six to seven months in the book. I feel like the author could've removed 300+ chapters and still had the exact same story. So many chapters just feel filler.

Just go read Lord of The Mysteries or something.

TLDR: This novel is a misguided slice of life novel (a terrible one at that) with little to no action consisting of hundreds of utterly boring chapters one after another. <<less

This is a really great novel, there's just 1 problem - too much dialogue/information dumps. There's literal chapters and chapters of people just talking/explaining things. Now don't get me wrong, its still engaging otherwise I wouldn't have continued to read it and I do find the world building done nicely. However, out of the 400+ chapters I've read, it was really only 300 chapters worth of material and if the author cut down on the dialogue and repeating information this would easily be a 5/5 novel.

Otherwise this is a great... more>> novel, plenty of comedy that's made me laugh out loud, a fun scheming MC that's fun to read about and very interesting side characters. The characters here really shine and stand out to make them believable. World building and power scaling is done well.

Again the novel is slow paced, so if you don't like that, you won't like this that much. It takes almost a hundred chapters just for MC to enter the academy where things really start getting great. <<less

The setting & worldbuilding are very nice, with a MC that's portrayed as quite smart. Yet, do be aware that the story & progression are quite slow. The characters... Well, the majority are battle junkies without critical thinking.

Attacking every race without consideration may be good for suppressive effect, but that's also the only thing it's good for. The actual smart people have to clean up after your messes, all the while they get sh*t on for doing so. Yes, I'm looking at you prefecture lord. The only (two) saving graces... more>> are the Marquis and the 6th principal. They are exception to this "battle junkie" rule, and the only reason why the prefecture still stands to this day.

The problem is that the MC also degenerates into this "battle junkie" phenotype after a while. This makes me question if the MC was dumb to start with, or just such fantastic character development took place that it made me fall of my chair and unintentionally click on the "close tab" button mid fall.

Also how they casually talk about exterminating several sapient races, like it's the most normal thing in the world... I feel I'm reading some kind of advanced racism novel. Then again, what did I expect from a xuanhuan novel with the name "Myriad Races"...

Well if you don't mind this, and just want to read a MC fighting, I would surely recommend it! <<less

A fairly enjoyable read with an interesting setting. The main character is both OP and he works hard, but I don't like how careless and petty he is - it just doesn't make for an interesting read imo. Basically feels like he has anger issues, causing problems for himself for no good reason.

Romance: none, although various side characters keep trying to get him to marry into their family (he is never interested at all)

Dropped because rather than inventing cool new stuff, the MC is just going around fighting.

Your review for "Tribulation of Myriad Races" at chapter 964 is helpful and insightful. Here's a refined version with some grammar improvements:

I have completed the Machine Translation (MTL) for "Tribulation of Myriad Races" up to chapter 964. I highly recommend the novel as it offers a solid reading experience. The story starts slowly but gains momentum, becoming extremely fast-paced during action sequences. The main character's personality can be best described as petty, as he holds onto grudges, shameless when the situation demands it, and mostly ruthless. This demeanor is deeply... more>> rooted in his upbringing and persists as he becomes a powerhouse. If I were to draw a comparison, I'd say he resembles Meng Hao from "I Shall Seal The Heavens."

One noteworthy aspect is that the MC has no love interest, and this is explained early on in the story. I mention this because, in many Chinese novels I've read, the handling of romance is often poor, as seen in novels like "Star Odyssey, " potentially turning away readers.

The interactions between the MC and the people he encounters, be they friends or foes, are well-executed. My only complaint is that the ending could be improved, but overall, I would rate it 4/5. <<less

This novel suffers from the bore problem. After 49 chapters the story hasn't moved and it is boring. Every level up is explained in excruciating details. Mind you lots of other webnovels do it too. But those start with action. By 40-50 chapters you see the MC part of a sect/academy and stuff starts to happen.

It is only in the mid parts i.e. 150-300 where MC needs to cross difficult level ups that things need to be explained in every detail. Mostly by then you are immersed in the story... more>> so you give it a pass. Other novels fall apart by having MC engage in fight after fight for no reason.

Here 50 chapters have passed and MC hasn't even gotten out of his town. Dropped! <<less
