I always thought that beastmen were indifferent by nature, so Luo Bei didn’t like my touch.

Later, I learned that Luo Bei resented me.

He resented me for adopting him.

It turns out that the dying twin wolf in the heavy snow had fallen in love with my cousin at first sight.

I had never been his salvation from the start.

To make a girl felt so insecure with herself that make her never take off the mask when in public. Damn, I felt so hurt for her.

I like the last part, the boyfriend wrote their love story into a book.

Sweet and healing.

This is probably the second story I've read (of who knows how many) where the FL isn't the ultimate beauty who's face and figure eclipses all others'.

She is a legitimately kind person, and the people she meets as she gets older recognize that and treat her in kind. She is sentimental, but is willing to let go, and she isn't a doormat that forgives her transgressors when they don't really mean it.

The only part that felt weird was how the beastmen are treated. Like, you adopt them, but... more>> you can still marry them (and without stigma) ? They have a segregated education system, and beastmen can be legally sold, but they're equal to humans? Weird, but not a dealbreaker for the story.

Good translation, good plot, good characters, slightly lacking world-building = 4/5 <<less

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE TRANSLATOR!💕👏

Wow...

this is one short story with a message I'll keep thinking about ... more>>
Spoiler

it focuses on how we deal with outer appearances, overcoming hurt, self-esteem, inner beauty, how we express love, what's deserving/undeserving of love, and love tied up into saving/being saved.

It concludes with everyone is deserving of love regardless of past hurts and/or outer appearance and that being happy + loved is how we experience beauty in life :')

[collapse]
It's set in a modern-fantasy world where humans have beastmen (think a person with cat ears/tail) that they can adopt as companions.

The FL like mentioned in the summary has a beastman companion, Luo Bei, who doesn't love her. She has a 10+ year unrequited love for him and finally realizes that the entire time she's been misunderstanding his continuous rejection (giirrl. GIRL RIP💀)

The story then focuses on how she ends that relationship, heals from it, grows from past hurt + low self-esteem, and finds new love with ML.

TW: school bullying + child ab*se/neglect but the FL is able to heal from this and there's closure (with a neat lil' bow) for what happens.
Spoiler

the FL is bullied when young and her parents side with the bully. They also emotionally ab*sed and neglected her. They add to her feelings of inferiority/low self-worth by comparing her to Luo Bei's white moonlight/her cousin! >: (

[collapse]

The ML is
Spoiler

NOT Luo Bei (thank heck!) but is instead an abandoned, unhoused fox beastman with a scarred face, tragic past, and also struggles with feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem.

[collapse]

The story is this weird, prefect blend of josei and shoujo... like it falls on an in-between with some josei themes but ends in this shoujo (idealistic/romantic) finishing gloss. It works pretty well though for an enjoyable short story! It's too short to get too serious lol

small rant:
Spoiler

I wish the story mentioned the human-beastman dynamics + world-building further... considering the not-so-great implications it has for beastmen servitude (ML was almost sold to black market s*avery/beastman trafficking in his tragic ML past)

[collapse]

rant aside, this novel is a solid 4.4/5 the writing and translation made me enjoy it, smile, cry, and become sappy. It's pretty short so hey--why not read it and be sappy too (; 😉 <<less

I once walked a long, long way alone amid the hurts the world gave me.

Later, I met the light.

i also want my own Lin Mo...

the last sentence says it all

Spoiler

Although I extremely hope that everyone will only encounter the warmth of the world.

But everyone on the path of growth will inevitably encounter malice.

I hope that after the pain, everyone can welcome a brilliant rebirth.

I also hope that every person trapped in appearance anxiety will stand tall.

Everyone has their own strengths.

You, deserve to be loved.

This is an enjoyable short novel to pass time. The setting of the plot was about humans adopting beastmen.

FL (Liu Yu) got insecurities due to bvllying and felt unloved by own family and Luo Bei (beastman she adopted) with always being compared with her beautiful cousin.

But what I liked about her was that she's decisive and didn't look back to people who didn't treat her well despite their shallow regrets. She chose to move on without changing her kindness and find her own happiness. The quotes hit hard: "I hope that after the pain, everyone can welcome a brilliant rebirth. I also hope that every person trapped in appearance anxiety will stand tall. Everyone has their own strengths. You, deserve to be loved."

Spoiler

I just kinda confused how adoption works and their ages. Lin Mo is good but just questioning the age gap and awkward on marrying beastmen they literally raised. Feels like g*ooming.

This had crematorium potential but I'm not mad about how the story went. The story teaches about self respect and seeing beyond visual appearance. The FL found someone else to cherish her the way she deserves. Overall a beautiful novel. However, tr*shy me still kinda wishes for a crematorium version with Luo Bei.

I have such mixed feelings about this story. First, the author didn’t do a good job with world building in terms of beast-men in society. Does everyone adopt one? At what age? It seemed like the cousins adopted at age 17 and raised them? Are they raised to be companions? Underlings? If they can go out and work and earn money to are they equal to humans? Below?

Next, the premise that Lin Mo doesn’t have confidence in his looks is kinda off since his torment was caused due to his... more>> beauty.

Lastly, Liu Bai’s sudden “love” for FL felt like the author had to insert the trope but couldn’t flesh it out. It was completely unnatural. Instinct of chasing prey? Then wouldn’t there have been other beast-men that were cold and distant from their “owners?” What did he love about her? Only that they stayed together for 13 years?

While the message of the story was nice, the concept wasn’t used well and tropes are ordinary. <<less

The protagonist Liu Yu does some soul searching to find and value herself after leaving everything she knew. Perhaps some of the regrets expressed by her family and old pet (?) were true. We never see their perspectives or gain accompanying context of their family dynamics. Dad could have been competing with his brother from a young age. However, nothing will compensate for the fact that none of them cherished her. They not only took her for granted, they blamed her for not being as likable as her cousin. We... more>> do not know much about the cousin beyond that the girls played together when they were young, but clearly grew apart due to the adults bias. Everyone but the cousin appears with very serious apologies and attempts at redemption. I am proud that LY is able to stick to her original stance and finally cherish herself and her needs, rather than measuring her value by how much others like her.

Rant about the Wolf:

Spoiler

It is really hard for me to judge how s*um the ‘pet’ was, since I do not understand the dynamics of Beastman adoption relationships in this setting. We do not have the slightest hint whether either of her parents were beastmen or if there is reproductive isolation. How likely is it for the adoption to develop beyond a pet-master relationship? It is clearly common, but is it always a default engagement scenario? Or is it meant to be guardianship for the abandoned children? The former seems more likely considering LY is able to “adopt” an adult later, but their relationship only truly enters the dating stage once they express mutual interest in each other. The adoption relationship is protected by the government with clear regulations like a marriage, but it is truly unclear what such a commitment actually means within this setting.

I appreciated that the protagonist does not accept his belated apologies regardless of whether he was actual s*um or not. LY reflects at some point that her assumption that his solitary behavior was just his nature was wrong, but I think she just did not realize his breed was a White-Eyed Wolf. He himself makes a comment that his attraction to her cousin was out of a competitive instinct with his brother. Did he truly not realize anything about this over 13 years?? He never had a desire to cuddle her or wipe her tears? At least when he was a child he knew to be by her side when she was upset, not even looking back at the adult her when she is in clear despair.

He did not attempt to court her cousin before their adoption relationship ended, he just never bothered to suppress his instincts to give his other benefactor an actual chance. LY and her wolf were very similar in many ways. He and her both looked at the other pair with envy. The difference between them is that while Liu Yu wanted to be treated the way Luo Nan treated her cousin, she never considered taking him for herself. She truly tried to make things with Luo Bei work, but LB took her so for granted that he had the ease to eye another master for 13 YEARS.

He is not exactly wrong for resisting her. She did make a unilateral decision to tie their lives together. He IS wrong to claim that anything about their previous relationship had to do with love. He puts on a very realistic Loyal Dog act toward the end of the story, but his feelings for others have never been more than fulfilling his own desires. He puts in effort to craft a bracelet she wanted a long time ago as an apology gift, but he ignored her statement in the same flashback that any gift would have pleased her. He completely misses the point of that moment. It is all too little too late. Not to mention this little NTR guy always carries the danger that he will suddenly realize that his ‘feelings’ were just instincts drummed up from his owner finding someone new. After all, he has shown he can’t distinguish between an actual positive impression versus instinct. I do believe he missed her and the way she treated him, but that feeling has everything to do with his regrets and nothing to do with her best interest.

This is one of the best healing novels I have ever read that so accurately explore strong feelings of inferiority and their origins. <<less

A beautiful and heartwarming story about learning to love yourself.

The protagonist starts out with low self-confidence, and after leaving her home, she finds companionship in her new life, and learns to become more self-confident. Despite her low self-worth, I really like the FLs resolute attitude in leaving home, as well as her assertiveness in cutting the toxic people from her life off. She never wavers, especially after finding people who truly appreciate her.

I thought this was going to be a wife-chasing crematorium type of story from the synopsis, so I... more>> was pleasantly surprised. There's no dog blood plot, and the romance is sweet and without any misunderstandings. <<less

Leaving aside the odd world of adopting beast men that you can later marry (are there beast women?), this story has a great message in growing to love yourself, looking beyond outer appearance, and moving on from toxic people. I appreciate that she doesn’t waver in looking back or forgiving even her parents.

A Healing story so great !

Although I was surprised by some mistakes with the translation, it was a pleasure to read the story.

I like the themes the author chose, beauty privilege and self love are rare topics in romance novels. This one is a true gem as there is other themes I appreciate a lot like :

... more>> How leaving a “toxic” relationship can only be for our good

How some people aren’t made to be parents

How we should treat our loved ones previously and show them love in a way to not regret it later

And the list goes on.

Yet I feel thike there is loophole in the sotry :

Spoiler

The "adoption" of humain with animal characteristics!

I'm like : what are their legally ?

I know in my country, the law provides that the legal nature of animals is the same as object (you own an animal) that's why I find it strange that they marry their "pet" as it's strange to see a human marry his car

Aawwww this was so wholesomeđŸ„ș💕💕💕

The title has nothing to do with the story. I love that is focuses on the healing of the characters both emotionally and physically. It really let us see that not all happy endings have a smooth journey before meeting their special someone. I also cried for a bit because of the FL's inferiority complex, like love yourself a little moreee. But all in all I'm satisfied with the ending even if it's short, would've like it more if only they wrote an epilogue of them... more>> having a baby together hehe👉👈 <<less

I really want to hug our MC in this story. Although I couldn't relate to her struggle due to inferiority, I could still feel it through the author's writing. She was hurted all her life but somehow, she still retained her kindness which eventually led her to her happy ending. Although she was kind, she was still quite decisive in cutting off the relationship with toxic people around her.

Spoiler

Even with Luo Bei, the one she spent her 13 years of life together, she still decisively cut off their relationship after she knew that he didn't love her. Also, when Luo Bei begged for her forgiveness, she didn't waver even a bit.

[collapse]

It's just that, I hope the author could provide more of background story about man and beastman's union and what's the rule behind it to make a sense of some things in this story. <<less
