So, I just finished reading this and it is so beautiful. If you like tgcf and mdzs, you'll love this one too. There were many similarities between them. Just like tgcf, it has a heaven with gods and immortals. Just like mdzs, it frequently switches between past memories and the present. The gong is an exact copy of Lan Wangji. In typical Musuli fashion, unwavering and unconditional love transcends time, lifetimes, memories, dimensions, you name it. Fate and destiny, karmic ties, the never ending cycle of what goes around, comes around. Musuli tackles the central theme of karma and its consequences in a mind-boggling web of lies, deceit, misunderstandings and mis-connections, but shows that one instance of kindness can overturn the tides. There is a completed English translation of this novel that can be found on Twitter, though it'll require a proof of purchase (Twitter title is An Immortal's Absence,... more>> Three Centuries Hence).

Initial premise of the novel opens with a Noble man waking up in the body of an imprisoned demon who was once the most powerful fiend of his time. He accidentally awakens the Tianxiu immortal responsible for guarding his confinement. The demon's underlings told him that he and the Tianxiu immortal were previously at odds, with one a powerful, foul demon that ruthlessly kills, and the other an upright immortal responsible for doling out mercy and punishments. However after waking, this immortal seems to treat the MC rather differently, and seems to have his gaze solely on the MC, noticing when the MC is acting off. Yet strangely enough, MC also realizes that he can guess the immortal's next words, have frequent flashbacks of the immortal, and finds that there's a very tender spot in his heart that he's furtively ignoring for this god. Together, they go on a journey with the intention of returning the MC's soul back to his original body. OR so Musuli leads us to believe.

Turns out, the MC starts to realize later that he didn't transmigrate into a demon's body, but that he was actually that demon but lost all of his memories, and a dream bell weaved some fantastical dreams for him during his confinement. He initially evades Tianxiu because he's afraid his identity will be discovered, but later finds it unnecessary because this immortal is carefully attentive and provides MC with a security and protection with his presence alone. As with typical Musuli fashion, MC and ML were entangled prior, in not just one lifetime, but multiple, so fate seems to bring them together regardless if they reincarnated, lost their memories (more than once), and so on so forth.

I won't go into a lot of details, but I was impressed with Musuli's use of foreshadowing and how minute information about an event, a person, or a tale later shows up in other parts of the novel, and how she ties the entire novel together. It's a plot-driven novel with balanced morsels of sweetness between the CP, and the intricacy of the plot is immaculate. Novel can be confusing due to the different timelines, there were lulls in the plot that made reading a bit boring at times, but overall a good read to pass time. Would recommend. <<less

in fact, I have never written a review, but when I saw so few comments and ratings, I couldn't resist... musuli's novels are already very good but shangxian is a legend!

The novel is wonderful and exciting. Definitely a impressive novel. There were sad moments but it's okay to cry a little! Please read this, you will never regret it.

It’s early for a review but ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

first off translations good, so no worries there.

it’s got a lot of potential and I really like this author so you should give it a try! Mu su li is really good at balancing actual stuff happening in her plots with letting her characters’ personalities shine and making the MC/ML feel like people who like.. actually enjoy each other’s company, though most would never admit to it face to face lol.

Wu Xingxue finds he's rather suddenly become a legendary demon lord. face to face with the former tenant’s followers and about to escape from a collapsing immortal prison he... has no idea where he is, who he’s supposed to be or how he’s supposed to get out of here without revealing he super definitely doesn’t know how to martial arts. luckily he has a poker face. Oh, and a ‘corpse puppet’ of a ‘dead’ celestial immortal who’s willing to play along, at least for now

I love the book, but could some other translator pick this up? It's been over half a year since this book has been updated and the translator was slow to begin with. We want moreeee.

It's been a while since I machine translated this, but yes, I do also remember this book being confusing at times with all the timelines and such. From what I remember, I also agree that this book became less interesting the longer it went on. Still, I was pretty invested in the story.

Started out strong but kind of went down from there. For the first maybe 1/3 or 1/2, the story really captivated my attention and kept me wanting to know more. I was so curious as to the backstory of the characters, and felt like I was journeying along with them as MC learned more about his past. The characters’ personalities are A+, backstories are maybe slightly over the top, but interesting.

Later, as MC gains more knowledge, the story actually becomes less interesting, and there are too many flashbacks that break... more>> up the plot and distract my attention. A lot of novels have significant flashbacks, but in this case it felt like a lot of details in the flashbacks were not important and were just there to make it longer.

The climax of each arc felt a bit overdramatic, with a lot of monologuing and/or rhetorical questions. Many aspects are trying really hard to be deep, but end up being mostly confusing because the logic isn’t quite there.

I was unsure of the timeline, because “a long time” seems to refer both to like 400 years and 20 years, so for example if the author wrote that x event happened “a long time ago, ” it was hard to place it into the chronological order of events.

Ending was a bit disappointing, to be honest. A lot of things were happening, but it was all wrapped up with just a paragraph or two; I felt a bit cheated. There was also quite a large error in logic:

MC from the alternate universe was wiped from memory/existence, so everything that he had ever caused to happen also never happened, so the entire alternate universe never existed and all the people who died were returned to life. However, back when the actual MC from the real world was wiped from memory/existence, all the worlds/lives he had ended before didn’t all come back, and all the characters who only existed because of him (including ML), didn’t disappear.

too verbose, timelines overlap, sentences keep repeating; these things are annoying. Moreover, every time there is an important incident, it is not explained beforehand what happened, it is a flashback, which makes people lose interest.

Honestly, I don't like the sentiment of forgetting then colonizing the past. I think it's a bit useless, after all it happened anyway. Vain.

Writing this since the main story has completed.

As usual with Mu Su Li’s MC and MLs, they are often mutual pining and there was a lot of pain and separation in the novel. When MC woke up, he seemingly lost his memories but upon meeting ML, you get to see they do have some connections prior which will slowly unveil. There are a lot of twists and turns and even the side characters were full of life. You would also cry for some of them (the side CP ... more>>

from splitting his spirit from the tree then further splitting it after learning of the calamities arising from him resulting in him being forgotten by everyone for a whole 300 years and was so alone and painful tortured by the grievances from the people he had slain as a god.

Thankfully he met ML again and have him beside him now. ML's love for MC was also very deep and he is one who shows his love with his actions like example just kissing him as he felt like it and was very caring for MC. Even though he was

forced to erase his memories of MC when MC turned into a demon, his subconsciousness still allows him to continue to be drawn towards him and love him.

The only down side about this novel is that the timelines are really confusing. It involves moving across timelines and there’s like a main branch timeline vs multiple side branches timeline. I had to re-read certain parts and confirm with other readers to smoothen out my thoughts. It wasn’t the best of Mu Su Li’s works (granted I had only read GUEE and Panguan), the previous works were better. But nevertheless, I love her language, it’s very beautifully written and the relationship between the CP was quite touching. <<less

If someone were to ask me what is love, I would give them the entire novel because the romance between MC & ML is just so beautiful. ML's most sincere devotion and earnest desire to protect MC just had me in tears. This is my first time reading this, going in blind and unprepared for the tsunami of emotions that await me towards the end of the main story. Similar to some novels, the plot is a bit confusing in the beginning but as you progress, things starting to clear up as you get hit with a tsunami of feels and knives. As you read, you'll laugh and cry because while you laugh at some of the minor humourous scenes in the novel but you'll also cry because of how utterly beautiful the love ML has for MC that involves sacrifice, patience and devotion. Reading this novel makes me want to go find the perfect song to describe ML's love towards the MC. A beautiful love story that transcends time.

It's a love story that tells you, just being there by your loved one's side, provide a listening ear and assist him to the best of your ability is already enough. There's one thing that left you thinking is MC's amnesia at the beginning.

When MC accidentally awaken the ML from his slumber, MC said he's from Que City but didn't give his name. He assumed he transmigrated into the current world but it's pretty questionable as he didn't provide his 'name'.

Meanwhile the manhua is incomplete (no update since latest chapter) but the s*xual tension more obvious than the novel. Reading this raises another level for my gong preferences (who knew immortal romance could be so beautiful).

A fairytale like romance which spans across lifetimes, but not entirely full of rose beds and rainbows. It tells the story of falling in love, accompanying each other for a lifetime, sacrifices, regrets, separations and finally finding each other again. An unconditional love that transcends lifetimes.

No unnecessary misunderstanding or drama between the main couple, no unnecessary love triangle bs, the angst and suffering is just the perfect amount to make it flavorful, along with fluff, love and happiness sprinkled throughout. This book is a good reminder that even without these... more>> unnecessarily frustrating elements and overly tragic endings, a book can still be perfect. Sometimes we really just need simple, unconditional love stories WITH happy endings like this. I'm tired of tragedies.

The author has a really cinematic way of writing that makes you feel like everything is playing out in real time and you are part of that world. I went completely blind into this book without any expectations at all and I'm just shocked how beautiful it is. Even more shocked that people don't talk about it often. There wasn't a single unenjoyable moment throughout the entire book and it made me binge read it in one go.

Honestly I'm just really into the soulmates/ unconditional love trope where despite all the hurdles, the main couple always/ finally find each other, and throughout the story they stay beside each other to overcome everything that comes their way.

This is the first book where the "saddest", most heartbreaking chapters actually ended up to be my most favorite. The separation, longing, heartbreak was portrayed so poetically to the point I was torn between crying blood vs appreciating the writing.

The main couple are mutually obsessed with each other and would do / DID everything - to be with each other in every single life.

The only regret I had after finishing this book was not getting to read more about <that> side couple. I was wishing the other books of this author that said they've shared universe as this one would have a sequel/ alternate universe for those two characters? But the ending is still perfect as it is. <<less

—— The gods of this world were without dreams, yet Xiao Fuxuan said: I dreamt of you.

I absolutely loved this novel. It's so underrated for how much it has to offer and I can only hope it gains more popularity once the official English books come out.

The setting is gods vs demons, there's heaven and the mortal realm which is rampant with demons that kill, consume, and possess humans. There's a lot about reincarnation, karma, fate, what it means to be a god, and also this concept of a higher... more>> power that shapes the world as it desires. If you're like me and that all sounds up your alley, I can guarantee you will love this too.

Our MC is Wu Xingxue, who believes that he has come to possess a demon's body and has just escaped his prison when he meets his so-called imprisoner, Xiao Fuxuan, a god who presides over punishment and mercy. The thing is that, Xiao Fuxuan was supposed to be dead, and Wu Xingxue feels like he should not even be in this world. The story follows them trying to figure out Wu Xingxue's issue and uncover some mysteries about heaven.

Let me just say that this couple is very sweet and romantic in a grandiose way, not at all down to earth. They are soulmates. But the novel itself is much more of an adventure/mystery/fantasy epic. It just so happens that our leads

were lovers in the past. One of them remembers this, the other doesn't, although he gets frequent flashbacks and eventually recovers all his memories. There's also a thing with past lives and how they were once born because of each other, their lives are pretty much bound together and they'll always keep finding their way to each other.

They have a playful and overall super cute dynamic. There are silly and funny moments, there are really sad moments, but most importantly, there is TRUE LOVE. I did cry at times from how much they love each other and how much tragedy they had to endure until they get their happily ever after. (Xiao Fuxuan is the ideal!)

Sometimes the story gets pretty confusing since it shoves a lot of information at you from the get go, but it's not nonsensical, it all makes sense eventually. I think if you are a fan of xianxia it's really not that bad. Plus, taking notes help a lot.

This was my first Musuli novel and I don't regret it at all, I'm very impressed. The plot is insane (in a good way) and besides Arc 6 which was pretty messy, I was able to understand everything and I thoroughly enjoyed this. ♡ <<less

The main CP are very reminiscent of Lan Wangji and Wei WuXian - which I loved - given that the cold stoic Xiao Fuxuan silently loves with all of his heart and the mischievous and radiant Wu Xingyue
