Until I, Who Reincarnated to a Game World, Become—

I was 29 years old when I died in my previous life. The cause of my death was the cliche “hit by a truck”. And the world I reincarnated into was very similar to the MMORPG I played in the previous life.

I left the remote mountain I was born and raised in, thinking I’d travel the fantasy world leisurely, but I had unknowingly been dragged into the cogwheels of fate that had began to turn.

——–This is the story of how I, who reincarnated to another world, became———

I’m conflicted. This story is good. It’s really good so far, but it is not a light read. I’m gonna have to drop it for right now because it’s making me more upset and I originally picked this up to relax myself.

But, just because it’s hard for me, doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy it! The world building is fun and there’s a lot of depth and I’ve enjoyed the side characters so far.

The MC is delightful and I’m a sucker for craft people leads. He’s also tanned skin! Which is... more>> fantastic as a fellow tan person, I will always have good will towards that. He has integrated pretty well with the world and develops very nice friendships and relationship with others. He’s loyal, clever and kind, which is always a delight. In the first 50 chapters there is no romance, which is no issues, however, this is another point that makes me hesitate to continue as I believe the ML is
Spoiler

the 15 year old third prince, Prince Wald, who in the initial part of the story is disguised as his twin sister, Princess Kathrine. It’s weird. Im sorry.

[collapse]

Alright, our MC is 25 years old in his current life and was 29 when he died in his original life. We do learn that
Spoiler

Reincarnators seems to be stuck at the mental age they died at. We meet another reincarnator who was a teen when she died and even as her body ages, her mind remains a teenager. Which is kind of weird if you ask me.

I did skim ahead to the later chapters, and they kind of explain it. But I think it still doesn’t make sense. Your life and age is built upon experiences and memories, these people are still living in this world. They are remembering their experiences. How can they not age mentally? That just seems really weird.

[collapse]

Anyway, our MC is an adult, but from all the hints given by the plot it seems
Spoiler

The third prince, Prince Wald is our love interest, the third prince who is 15 years old at the start of the plot. And from skimming ahead, seems to be 16 when they get together. Honestly. I’d have no issue is there was like a 5 year time skip between their first meeting and then a reconnection once the prince is of age, but it comes off extremely weird that it doesn’t seem to happen.

MC talks about people being considered adults by 15 in this world. But he also is very must still tied to his original Japanese identity where he feels that 15 is the age of a middle schooler! I’m sorry, this is just... uncomfortable. Also, really, in the 50 chapters I read, they have no romantic chemistry. It’s definitely more of an older brother/mentor vibe. I don’t see how in the next arc they progress romantically.

[collapse]

The cause of the conflict and its effect are pretty heavy. Especially since it’s very clearly something entirely driven by ego and cruelty. I’m not against even resource wars and things of the like as this is something that happens in real life. Not that is makes the lose of innocent life any better... ah this is a hard thing to explain. This war and its tragedy, from what is revealed up to ch 50 is rooted in a deeply egotistical and selfish desire of a third party who is being back by others with equally shallow minded and self centered points of view.

Spoiler

the country at war with the MC and ML home country is basically run by a bunch of Reincarnaotr who abandoned the MC’s original country 6 years ago due to an scandal between a female reincarnation and the ML’s royal uncle. They claim that the ML’s uncle r*ped and imp**gnated the girl leading to her su*cide. So the reincarnators and the adventurer’s guide who backs them, basically killed the Uncle and 250 innocent people who worked at his residence in revenge, while also having the kingdom pay recompensation. However, this female reincarnator’s, a fellow SS ranked reincarnator didn’t think it was enough, they abandoned the country. Took over another and then instigated this war 6 years later with th goal of wiping out the royal family including literal children, in revenge for something they already took revenge for. It’s absolutely infuriating how self righteous they are and how they treat the living, breathing people of this world as NPCs. They are born this world, but because some have power, they believe they are better and are ruthless about it.

for later spoilers, the Adventuer’s Guild, in my opinion, tries to wash their hands of the guilt of mu*dering innocent people in conflict and revenge by claiming to be protecting their own. While ignoring the various native people of the world who are also r*ped, sold off and ens*aved. It’s really... blood boiling. It’s hypocritical as hell. It really is. It’s fine to them, so long as it’s not a reincarnator getting tortured and tormented. They don’t seem to want to fix the world, only hold power, control and safety in their hands.

[collapse]

*sigh* It’s really not bad, but there are some points about this story I can not continue with. I’d still suggest trying out the first 50 chapters and seeing if it’s you’re cup of tea. My grievances, save for the age gap, are more personal preferences than a condemnation of the story. Honestly, it’s impressive to create such a surge of complicated emotions and I commend the author on that. It’s why I still give it 4 stars even with my grievances.

On a side note about the worlds perspective on s*x
Spoiler

many people in this world, especially in the military camp seem weirdly, overly, h**ny. Like everyone seems to leer at the MC because he’s attractive. Also they assume any officer have a platonic relationship with him is inherently him crawling in their beds. I find it a bit strange. I think it’s an author predilection honestly. Because there is an underlying current of s*xual assault and harassment, and lingering air that beautiful or attractive people are constantly at risk of being r*ped at any moment. It’s kind of uncomfortable and honestly feels extremely unrealistic. Like female reincarnators are constantly at risk of s*xual assault it seems but so are the native women of the world. It’s just... not a vibe.

I really love this story, as the protagonist has a really likeable personality, and quite funny when narrating the story. I could read more than 100ch of the raws in just a few days and patiently waiting for each new update.

This story is set in a world that is based on a MMORPG, and apparently all young people who played this game and died prematurely reincarnate here. So our 29yr old protagonist is one of them and he was a skillful craftsman in that game, but unfortunately he's reborn in... more>> deep mountain so he's not aware of that fact until he turned adult in this world. The story starts when he was about to go on a journey to leave his village and enjoy crafting with his skills inherited from the game.

it's fun to follow his adventure (?) as he try to simply survive, and discovering about other reincarnators who apparently have chuunibyou mentality, yeah they were all mostly adolescents when they died. So our protagonist is calm-headed, unlike emotional teenagers. The world building is great too, the explanation for the world setting is smooth, well some chapters might feel like info dumps at times. While the bl part is quite subtle and serves as side desserts when reading this (still sweet~~).

rough story flow under spoiler
Spoiler

well, overall there are 3 arcs, the first (c1~c49) is the Tisia war that our protagonist got involved in as soon as he left his village. Here he starts to learn more about this world (he was kinda a recluse in his own remote village), and about other reincarnators and their positions in this world. And yes, he met the ML here, but with a twist.

I would call the 2nd arc (c50~c128), the fugitive arc, where our protagonist is on the run with the ML trying to return to their country while avoiding enemies, there they'll actually make connections with spirit horses and the closed-off elves! And starting in this arc our protagonist starts to be open to his feeling as the ML already fell for him. They're quite sweet too, but this is just a minor element compared to the whole adventure plots. And we can see the character growth in this period as they have to depend on each other to survive.

and the supposedly last arc (c129~ the novel still ongoing and the end still not in sight), is after they finally reach their country after more than a year and have to deal with the mess left by the war and make their relationship official. There is also a major mission of dragon slaying! And properly confronting the so-suspicious Empire and the Adventurers Guild where all the other reincarnators are. Some surprises awaiting them.

I'm not sure how the novel will end, well, surely the protagonist will become _____ ! <<less

As an SE Asian, big plus for having a strong dark-skinned MC. For once, it's not "pale as the moon", "milky skin", or whatever, and still be a cool character I can respect. It's sort of a nominal detail but still appreciated.

It follows light novel standards with its simple and easy to consume plot and writing. I appreciate that MC is just OP in a one-eyed man kind of way and the story leaves a lot of room for other people to be greater than him.

Romance is slow paced and... more>> still a mystery at this point which I appreciate since most Japanese BL light novels tend to jump in quickly.

Reserving rating but 4 stars for now. <<less

It's a lot earlier than when I would usually leave a review, but I feel like all those 1 stars are really unfair so I'll put what I think so far. I might come back later once I finish reading.

This seems to focus more on the isekai aspect of the novel; there's a lot of world-building. It's pretty interesting because (at least from what I've read so far) novels usually dive right into the plot and romance/introduce the love interest quickly, and generally we see the MC and ML interact... more>> pretty early on. But in this novel, I've yet to see hide nor hair of the ML--which isn't necessarily bad. I think it's good that we can immerse ourselves into the story and world, and understand the underlying plot/tensions more.

The MC is probably considered OP in that world, but not as OP as other reincarnators. Perhaps you'll like this kind of setting.

There seems to be some kind of halo on the MC haha. A lot of the people he meets (at least cannon fodder side characters) become infatuated with him pretty quickly.

Overall, fairly interesting so far. Am waiting for plot to develop more and for the ML to show up. <<less

This story is totally unexpected, especially compared to other JP BL novels (shounen-ai or yaoi) that most readers would already know what to expect--this story is plot driven and in the first arc, the novel can be classified as a proper seinen novel.

Of course if you read seinen genre, there will be familiar cliches--but as a BL this story is out of the norm (there are other serious fantasy JP BL but I got real invested in this one).

Spoiler

I dived in this wanting to read simple BL novel with typical plot, even typical isekai plot of OP chara or MC making a harem. But boy oh boy, I got way too invested in the characters and I was not expecting deaths, but alas that is typical with seinen-like JP stories, there will always be tragedy in the middle.

[collapse]

Focusing on the story itself, MC and ML are likeable characters. MC is not quite typical, it felt to me that the author wants to make a different kind of MC with the set-up of typical isekai character and it works. I can't say much for ML since he's just starting to have airtime, but I like him (and not a typical ML too).

I'm just blabbering at this point. Anyway, this is a comedic serious story that feels like a seinen if not for the romance between MC and ML (and the many mentions of men-men relationship info).

The translation is top-notch, thank you very much translator-san and editor-san and proofreader-san. <<less

I won't give this a rating, since I haven't read far enough to give it a fair one. I will say, though, that the writing doesn't read like a story. It reads more like an extended summary or journal. Scenes are really abbreviated, and dialogue only includes maybe about 5 lines, paragraphs of internal monologue, and then we move on. I wasn't even sure the story had started until a few chapters in, thinking it was still the synopsis. It's not my cup of tea, so I'll drop it.

Seems pretty good so far! I love the MC! He is very dense when it comes to the "normal" of the world.

My biggest question right now -
Spoiler

What does the ribbon mean? Is it like a normal gift or does it show a kind of loyalty? Are the other reincarnations from earlier in the game's life and could not know the best ways to do things?
