Villain’s Diary: Why Does It Feel Like You’re All Acting Against Me?

Description

I transmigrated into a novel, becoming the villain.

After dozens of attempts, I failed each time and couldn’t return to the real world.

Finally, I gave up and decided to go with the flow, only to discover that writing a diary could make me stronger.

Since no one could read it, Su Luo wrote freely, daring to pen anything and everything.

Female Lead #1: “Not bad. This diary helped me steal all the protagonist’s opportunities. I just want to get stronger.”

Female Lead #2: “I don’t care about reaching the peak of the cultivation world. Right now, I just want to enjoy the chaos.”

Female Lead #3: “What? Everyone around me is a spy? I’m the Joker Demon Lord?”

It’s so strange. Why is the plot completely off track, yet the ending remains the same?

Are you all just messing with me?!

Hello, hi, welcome to my review of this work. I write this fresh after completing the entire novel and oh boy, I have mixed feeling about this work. First of all, this is an enjoyable read and fun ride, I recommend reading. It is not masterpieces by any mean but it is a well-written pieces.

First, I want to talk about the MC. The author really make a good and likable MC. His character consistent throughout the story, a lazy salted fish that is tired after how many repetition he has... more>> to do (No joke, the MC estimated already done this plot more than a thousand year, he even reached the point of able to go to his home dimension but cannot find the address). So, when we see him apathetic to basically everything, the author make very convincing. He is not a plot s*ave, important. He satisfied as long it meet the requirement and not focus on OCD detail. There is no immature and childish MC, this MC has that emotional maturity and rarely does s*upid stuffs.

Second, I want to talk about the heroines. I really love the heroines in this work because they are not a vase and non-toxic. They know even if they have the advantages of reading the diary and peeking into the mc's private thoughts and desire from the diary, they didn't go all out and exploit it, at first they did but learned to respect the MC and wanted him to be happy. The detail about their respect and consent to the MC make this harem really fun to read. They also has depth of characters, not much but it is enough to be defining and they are consistent in the entire series.

Next, I want to talk about the various details about this work that I like. I like how despite the mediocre writing that might bored you sometimes, the various details the author turn this into something you just wanted to know more. The detail where the MC just take a walk, the mundane encounter with stranger, the bromances, the private life of many side-characters, the random event. All of it cumulate into fun experiences.

I also love the original MC, Lin Xuan. Oh boy, this is one of the most convincing original MC compared to bazillion other where it just pe*verted person with huge cheat. Lin xuan actually growth into a proper MC and has convincing plot. He is not s*upid either. I very much love to read a story with him as the MC. I even expect him to end like the original plot where he castrated himself and then join MC harem. Unfortunately, he did not.

Overall, it is a mediocre piece turn into fun read by many detail choice by the author who know what he is doing. <<less

Story isn't bad, its a bit more unique than the other villain diary-type stories as the plot gets twisted by the heroines who stole all the goodies but still try to achieve the original plot points somehow and keep the story going. However the translation isn't great, I think the translator went out of their way to flip all the characters' genders just to mess with me.

To start, I am enjoying this Novel a lot more than usual, and even if it isn't a masterpiece, it's leagues above its brethren in the genre.

The Story is satisfying, The Female Characters are quite smart, The Main Character is likeable enough, and the side characters feel fleshed out and human. Though the prose could use some work, since I haven't read the raws, I will chalk it up to the translation affecting how it flows.

1) And here we come to the main problem, the Translation is.... less than average.... more>> It isn't bad, nor does it make insane leaps in words and logic like an MTL does, yet it still reads like an MTL. Constant Pronoun Switching (The Male MC has MULTIPLE WHOLE CHAPTERS where he is referred to as a she, a lot of the female characters become men all of a sudden, I can't even acertain whether the newest character introduced is a man or a woman since apparently everyone is transgender all the time. Though I know she is a woman since it's directly stated that she is one of the OG protagonist's love interests). It makes the reading experience tedious and quite frustrating, which is only saved by the tendency of Chinese writers to write down who exactly is talking all the time.

2) The Translation doesn't even pay attention to continuity, at least in three separate instances. One of the characters, Nangog Xiyun, is disguised as a maid/subordinate named Yun, but the translation apparently didn't get the Memo, so they just use her real name and have the guy she is serving use it when he does not know it. This always makes me confused and wonder if I missed an entire chapter or something where he discovers it.

3) The Formatting is also weirdly inconsistent; sometimes thoughts are shown 'like this' and sometimes they are written *like this*. Which is just annoying and doesn't make for a seamless experience, but fortunately, the issue is like in only 2 chapters.

4) The names of Stages also like to yo-yo between English and Chinese for some odd reason. Sometimes the stage will be golden core in one chapter but yuanying in another, which makes it annoying to keep track of the power level. It also makes it seem like different translators are working on different chapters.

This isn't to say that the novel is bad or that the translation is unreadable; on the contrary, the translation is very good at conveying any point of information in easy-to-understand words without sounding overly flowery. It's also quite relaxing to binge-read since the words themselves aren't hard and are pretty concise. Though it still just reads like an MTL that the translator didn't bother with polishing off (Since I struggle to find any other case where the translator would consistently translate the pronouns wrong for multiple chapters, and I don't think the entire Cast is Genderfluid all the time), and yes I know that I am reading this for free which is a privelige but that doesnt mean that the Translation quality should be subpar or to underdeliever on the quality.

The Only Other Novel I have read on the same site translating this one, didn't have these issues, so I am finding these issues weird.

3.5/5 or 6.5/10, if the Translation is polished a bit, this would be a good read for anyone liking the genre or just trying it out for the first time, but as it stands right now, the translation quality severely holds it back and stops it from being an instant recommendation. In fact, I would be surprised if the rating is unfavourable due to all these issues. Thank you for all your time <<less

I rarely left a comment but this novel is worth reading for those who’s getting tired of the villain fake acting and other people who know their secret. MC is following the original plot as best as he could without doing unnecessary thing and whine later. The heroines are not 2d smooth brain and use the plot to their advantage. Even the Original MC has his own perspective for what the MC doing. In summary, worth a read and it would be best to give it a try.

Rating doesn't reflect the quality of this novel.

First of all the [heroine can hear my thoughts/read my diary] is a trope genre, usually heroines and events just feel like tools. Resulting in a very linear, boring and stereotypical plot.

This has actual plot besides the story plot they're inside. Every single character is fleshed out and humane with character development (even minor vilains are good). The story's original MC is not a walking circus, he's not dumb nor a pe*vert and isn't forced to be entangled with anything (including female leads).

Besides... more>> that, it is also well writen with details, interesting things beside the main action which keeps the story alive and prevents us from being burned out. The humor was actually quiet novel and funny, I've found myself laughing out loud on several occasions.

Not a masterpiece, but top of the ladder for a system/trope genre. <<less

The series is fun to read but if your looking for something in depth then this probably isn't for you.

Su Luo and the heroines are likeable, the other good guy characters aren't too annoying. There are misunderstandings that actually help how people see Su Luo so there's not a lot of angst Su Luo has to go through in this life (not that he even cares at this point).

Other than the series seeming to get rushed the last 30 or more chapters I enjoyed the read.

If I was rating this... more>> web novel on the quality of the writing I would have given it lower but im rating on how much I enjoyed the novel. It was an enjoyable read. <<less
