Yu Fan didn’t like the sight of the new transfer student in his class.

The other party glanced at him.

Yu Fan: He’s looking for a fight.

The second glance.

Yu Fan: He’s asking if I’m scared.

Third glance.

The transfer student with his usual expressionless, iceberg-like face handed him a letter, “Classmate Yu.”

Yu Fan internally felt that this top student is annoyingly fastidious, even handing out a letter of challenge to request for a fight. He proceeded to roll up his sleeves and stand up.

“Please accept my love letter.”

Classmate Yu immediately sat back down.

It's such a fun and quick read. I binge read this during weekends and I can say I didn't regret it at all! Their dynamic is cute and refreshing. I love the friendship, and development of characters especially the MC.

Chen Jingshen: me and my girl man don’t argue he tell me to shut up and I do

Actual review: Very cute slice-of-life high school romance. The plot progression and character/relationship development felt natural and well-written. It’s not life changingly good, but it was a sweet, fun novel that I don’t regret spending my whole afternoon reading.

What I liked:
Spoiler
  • Delinquent x honor student trope was executed to near perfection. The way YF and CJS influence and add to each other’s lives is lovely. I also really liked the slight twist on the trope in that YF is the naive, innocent one and CJS is the one who’s a little scheming.
  • The friendships. YF’s friend group was made up of simple but endearing characters that always made me smile whenever they interacted.
  • The teachers being good educators who actually care about and support their students (rather than being cartoonishly evil) was refreshing to see. Also it was really funny whenever Hu Pang was chasing down YF and company.
  • The angst, while minimal, made sense and hurt in the good way. My heart broke for YF and how powerless he was with his abusive, greedy father. I was glad seeing YF make it out of that situation and get back up on his feet after the time-skip.
[collapse]

What I liked less:
Spoiler
  • While the characters were charming, they were a little one-dimensional, CJS in particular. I wish he had more traits outside of being really into YF.
  • I kind of wish there was more variety in the YF x CJS dynamic. Their interactions all kind of played out the same way, where YF would be tsun, CJS would pretend to be pitiful, then YF would give in and do what CJS wanted. It was funny at first but got stale. I ended up liking their relationship better post time-skip.

This novel was the biggest surprise of 2024 (the year I read it) for me. I honestly didn’t expect to get so emotionally involved and attached to this story and its characters. One of the reasons was that I didn’t feel particularly drawn to modern, school-life novels, but I decided to give this one a chance, and I simply fell in love with the genre. I ended up devouring other novels to try and find a glimpse of Yu Fan and Cheng Jingshen in other characters.

It had a sweet beginning,... more>> a somewhat angsty middle, and a refreshing ending. The main couple supported each other and became independent, strong adults because of it. I’m saying all of this because I hope to spark some of your curiosity. *Wait for Me After School* was a captivating surprise in my daily life, and I recommend it to everyone so they can experience a bit of how emotional and hopeful young love can be, even if only in fiction. ♥️ Some negative points: As much as I’m in love with this story, I still think it has a few flaws, just like all others. I’ll refrain from going into too much detail and will focus on what bothered me the most. I honestly think the protagonists lack a bit of personality, even though they should be the most captivating characters, and I didn’t feel that. As I was reading, I felt that the secondary characters were cuter or more appealing than the MC and ML. Of course, they have their reasons for being more serious than most others and having their mental barriers, but I think at times they could have opened up more, to appear more socially appealing (a bit more charismatic, I guess?). Anyway, that didn’t ruin my overall experience! It even had its own charm.

Yeah I'm not a native speaker so this text may sound strange! Chat gpt dad helped me to wrote <<less

I think slow paced novels just aren’t for me. The pacing of the novel is a 3.5 for me, and I found the plot pretty boring too. I do like how spirited the characters are, esp with the side characters all being likeable in their own way. It was nice to see the genuine care that the discipline master and the homeroom teacher has for their students, genuinely wanting them to do well. However, I didn’t really see the chemistry between the leads. MC is very tsundere, and ML has... more>> a cold personality despite confessing first. The plot rn is just MC constantly getting put off by the ml’s attempts at helping/getting closer with him. I might pick it back up in the future, but for now I think the glacial pacing just isn’t for me. <<less

The beginning of this novel was a bit bland with too little emotional content and too much school life and I even almost gave it up in the middle. I'm glad I didn't though, because it gets so much better about 2/3s in and the last chapters were very good. We get so much more involved with the character family backgrounds in the latter half of the novel and also a very tear-jerking part. (Just a warning, the weibo extras are from the sad period in this novel, so... more>> read them before the last chapter or you'll be left feeling heartbroken.)

School novels with no other plot content than the MCs' relationship aren't for me, and if you feel the same you probably won't like the beginning either. But I still feel like it was worth the read solely because of the well done latter half. <<less

I like it but I can't finish it. I can't find myself to be connected w the characters other than the MC; he's a tsundere but has a lot of character and I like that he keeps that foul mouth trait of his despite how the ML acts like a pushover towards him. Speaking of the ML, he honestly annoyed me quite a bit and I can understand how the MC would act so mean-spirited towards him in the beginning of the novel. Still, it's a pretty lighthearted novel so... more>> you can expect it to move slower than most. <<less

Well. That was... wonderful.

It took me a long time to read it, and because of the translator I might not have understood many details, but it didn't affect my impressions and emotions. I sincerely love it.

First of all, the novel is short. It is quite easy to read. I really liked the text, dialogues, descriptions, especially Yu Fan's emotions.

Secondly, the relationship between the characters. I love their interaction. I love their love. They are so... so... so damn tender and loving. (This is subjective, I didn't have enough Chen Jingshen... more>> a little bit.)

Spoiler

I would have liked to see more of his emotions in the text in those moments when he was looking for Yu Fan. It would have killed me to the end, but it would have made me love Chen Jingshen even more.

This is a great representative of the school romance genre, it definitely deserves 5 stars (人 •͈ᴗ•͈). <<less

I was surprised by this novel. Unlike many others that gets worse towards the end, this novel got better. MC, Yu Fan, is a troubled teen from a broken family. Although suffering ab*se for many years, inside he is truly pure. ML, Chen Jingshen, is the "perfect" son and student. ML's attraction to MC seems strange at first but we will find that it makes sense later. ML is a true gem who can see through the outside to the inside.

Although the novel contains bitterness along the way, the sweetness... more>> is all the more compounded. This novel has a happy ending.

Spoiler

MC's mom had left years ago due to physical ab*se by MC's dad. MC's dad then started abusing MC. At first, MC was too young and little to defeat his dad but later on he was able to protect himself.

ML had liked MC for many years before they met in high school. MC had protected ML from bullies when they were younger. ML didn't forget but MC forgot.

Later on ML pursues MC. Although MC rejected him, ML was persistent and stayed by his side. Helping MC in small and large ways. When they got together, their relationship was brief cause MC's dad found out and blackmailed ML's mom. MC found out about the blackmail and dropped out of school. He took his dad and moved far away to escape everything... it was also to escape debt creditors after his dad.

There was six years of separation before they met again. Both of them had finished college. MC was a photographer and ML a computer programmer. ML found out where MC was living and successfully pursued him. Later, MC moved to live with ML and they got married.

I feel like it's a well-written novel, but it's just too slice-of-life for me... It's not my type of novel since I get bored of school life + slice of life if there isn't enough drama. There's some, but not enough for my tastes, so I'm not sure if I'll continue reading. Rating it 5 stars since it's a good novel... just not for me.

The characters are developed and interesting. The MC truly is a delinquent tsundere, and his interactions with the ML are sweet and funny. The pacing is... more>> slow (probably normal for slice-of-life tbh), but the novel is well-thought out.

Basically, if you like slice-of-life (particularly of the school variety) then you've probably hit a jackpot. If that's not your type, you might still enjoy it due to the characters and their interactions, but maybe less so.

The novel is completely translated by KK, but you'll have to jump through a few loops to read it for free in English. It probably took me about 5 minutes to figure out how the password worked, haha. <<less

I like the writing, the pace is a little too slow for me, but nothing extreme. There are still a few chapters left to finish, but I already liked it. I was thinking it would have more physical contact scenes (I like that kind of love demonstration) so I ended up being a little disappointed. But it's just my personal preference, it doesn't mean the book is bad. I totally recommend it!
