My name is Chen Huai’an, and I have cancer. I’m dying. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with a virtual girlfriend game. I top up my account to buy her cultivation techniques and magical artifacts. Even though I’ve emptied my wallet, I laugh like a fool. I always thought it was just a game—until one day, my virtual girlfriend sent me a pill. The next moment, the pill appeared in my hand… Am I… not going to die?!

My name is Li Qingran. My cultivation has been crippled, my spiritual roots dug out, and I’ve been expelled from my sect. I cower in a dilapidated hut, waiting to die. I thought my life was over—until I met a mysterious senior who never shows himself. This senior heals my wounds and helps me cultivate. I grow stronger and stronger, eventually becoming the most powerful sword cultivator in the Cangyun Realm. I’ve heard that the spiritual energy in Cangyun is depleting, the Dao is dim, and an immortal from another world plans to merge their soon-to-revive realm with ours. An age of chaos and opportunity is upon us. Even immortals may face death in this struggle. I scour the world for traces of this senior. I want to protect him—and become his Dao companion!!!

It’s fun. The characters are likable and not just 2D, at least that’s how it feels to me. Fun story. The misunderstandings do end up fading away from the main plot, only reappearing occasionally. It’s an OP powertrip, but not a hate-able one.

I am getting a bit antsy about the multitude of girls getting thrown at the MC. It’s currently marked as not a harem and I hope it stays that way, but I'm getting fearful.

Would've been better if this novel didn't rely on the braindead misunderstandings trope. The MC doesn't know that supernatural stuff is going on in real life and thinks the stuff he receives from the game character is just the devs being really meticulous about the immersion of their game, but he keeps coming across supernatural stuff and does the s*upidiest mental gymnastics to explain it away, like giant wolves he came across in a mountain just being some weird mutant wolves, and his body regenerating at incredible speeds and having... more>> increased stamina despite the fact that he has terminal cancer and is one year away from dying being because his cancer cells mutated and turned him into a super human.

tl;dr it's the type of novel that'll have you facepalming all the time because of how s*upid the MC is, so if you're someone who hates that like me you should probably avoid this novel. "B-b-ut it's just for x arcs, after that he learns the powers are real!" I don't care, this kind of writing completely spoils my perception of a story and tells me the quality I should expect from the novel going forward. <<less

This is gold! The only downside so far is the MC is a bit dense, unaware of what caused his appearence change and superpower. I usually hate dumb MC but the idea is good and the dense-level is still tolerable so far. I'll update my review or even drop it if the dumbness drag for hundred of chapters. Like the previous reviewer said, I also hate misunderstanding trope as it's so childish, but so far it's still within my tolerance limit.

Personally, I'd prefer if the cultivation stuff just stayed inside... more>> the 'game' though. It's starting to show the sign that the real world will soon change with those supernatural nonsense. On chapter 65++ a girl appear who is a part of a demon-slaying organization, and she can cultivate although being only in the first stage. You know, that cliche stuff and we know what will happen next when MC realized his condition. This is another downside to me.

It's predictable, but I'm just here for the romance so I'll keep bear with it for a while.

it's a light read with predictable plot but with unique idea. No intricate plots or scheming <<less

I like the concept of the story except the relationship between the MC and his 'girlfriend'. He's her master, and he's basically raising her, so it's like the MC is g*ooming an underage girl/daughter. Even without the master-disciple power dynamic, the MC is an adult since he took a couple years of university and the FL feels like she's underage imo.

Maybe I wouldnt mind it as much if he was helping her as a boyfriend, but he's helping her as a master with the intention of being her bf. I... more>> would've preferred if it was just a master-disciple relationship or an adopting/raising daughter sim.

Also, I dont think the misunderstandings are as bad as the other reviewer, but it does go on for a bit too long. I do agree that the MC's personality kinda sucks. It started off with hints of wisdom because of his cancer and his impending fatality, but then the author completely forgot about it or smth, and made him a complete chuunibyuo with all the immaturities that comes with it. The terminal cancer is basically not even part of the plot at this point. <<less

Well the story is interesting, for Chinese Novel, this one can be considered good. I rate it 4.2/5 if I can, but since I can't then it 4/5.

Alright, the story focus on MC and Heroine (What MC though as Virtual Girlfriend at first).

The story background is on a world when spiritual resurgence occur. And there is something that can be called akin to an awakener (What I call them, since I read using Translator so I didn't know the official name). MC can be called one of them, but he... more>> is special, since he is connected to another realm (on the start of the novel that was pretty clear).

It's heartwarming, funny, and pretty fun to read. But despite that, why I didn't rate it higher is because the story pace is very slow. Yeah maybe if the chapter available is more then I can rate it higher.

At 150 chapter, he still at the beginning of cultivation, meaning Qi Refining realm, and the heroine is still at Foundation Establishment. Still a long way to go. I predict this story can go over 1000+ chapter the way I see this.

What makes this slow is because the author focusing on 2 different POV, the real world where MC is progressing and the Realm when Heroine is progressing too. Kinda feel like there many filler. Well typical Chinese Novel. At 150 Chapter, in regard to game convenience, the game MC played still hasn't got to where the first dungeon is. Meaning still at the beginner village.

Despite that, the story still interesting to read though. The development between MC and Heroine is very good. The funny moment when the POV is focused on Heroine POV realm is good, even I want it to be focused on the Heroine perspective. But sadly, the author is a greedy type, he want to combine what can be 2 Novel into 1. Resulting in very slow development. <<less

The story is kinda sweet, and you can see the occasional thirsty and normally frustrated ML. The ML was left alone after he found out he had cancer by his girlfriend. Since he had no one to rely on or money to get treatment. He had given up on life and decided to do all the things he couldn't before. And that's how he started playing the game 'My Virtual Girlfriend' and met fml. That's how the story goes. And I enjoyed reading their interactions cause frm FML pov it's... more>> totally out of blue n weird and from Ml's pov he's like constantly fawning over the too realistic and life like interactions and goes 'small developers goes way too hard'. The interactions looks cute and funny to me.

Since there isn't much chapters now to tell the worth I would rate it 4 stars. Hopefully, it gets better!

Also, it's more to slice of life I guess? Its just both of their interactions through the game and occasionally human intervention with multiple pov.

The chapters are short and the translations quality is very good. Definitely should try reading it! <<less

I love it up until now. It's a funny, heartwarming story and I am genuinely curious about how the worldbuilding pans out and how the MC gets involved. The main character is kind and his flaws are very believable and don't make him a bad person. The female lead is a bit less fleshed out but that might change as the story goes on. Up until now she's kind and very determined. Most importantly, the story takes the trope of the damsel in distress and gives an original spin on... more>> it, with the female lead being a true damsel while also being actually competent and smart. <<less

Spoiler

Omg, first chapter is both hilarious and kinda tragic, I kinda feel bad for her, crawling under a bed and trembling cos some weird entity is doing weird stuff to her room, and then said weird entity is touching her foot out of nowhere lmao. Girl must think there's a poltergeist or something

Extremely good novel, featuring a sweet romance, fun comedy, and a likable female heroine.

The story is much more engaging than the synopsis suggests.

While the protagonist starts off dense, this is primarily used for comedic effect—early on, he believes himself to be some kind of cancer superman, akin to Deadpool. However, this changes as the story progresses, and he stops being dense. On the contrary, he becomes quite cunning.

The problem is that he eventually grows a bit too shameless and egocentric, following the typical path of many CN protagonists. That said,... more>> this actually makes the story more intricate and interesting, with plenty of background schemes.

The supporting characters are well-developed, and there is even some drama and tragedy. Due to the way the two worlds function, the protagonist is overpowered in one world but relatively weak in the other, preventing him from simply steamrolling everything.

The battles are a mixed bag—some are engaging, while others are poorly written.

The biggest downside, in my opinion, is that the first part of the story is more enjoyable. Later on, as the protagonist becomes too powerful, he no longer needs to take as many risks as he did in the beginning. <<less

great first arc wjhich is 4.5/5

but it looses its steam quickly after that first arc. I recommend to stop read before start of sword sect, as it looses all the misunderstanding trope and insted of reinventing it to intresting direction it redoubles on those tropes for both characters, which feel not the apt ton e of what this novel shd go for new situations. Also lack of any narrative tension undermine my reading interests. Finally it feels like a slop from then on, with no larger narrtative directioon apparent, neither... more>> the journey in itself is meaNINFUL Recommended for all till first arc (around ch 54), as iut has nice face slapping, later it is just a chore <<less

While this novel is not up to those legandary xianxia, it has its own charm from the new approach to xianxia.

If the reader put oneself in the MC's shoes, the story would be more fun. He is the terminal stage cancer patient, no more than 6 months left. Even after getting the cultivating system, it only gives him power but not extra day of life. In real life, most people will ab*se this power to the degree no one can imagine.

I am given the world ultimate power but will die in less than 3 months, what should I do? That's the very morale question.

... more>> Put the more aside, this is the novel.

MC becomes the hidden system to the FL, his virtual girlfriend. The world is recovering from the lost of qi. Beasts and demons get the power first, human later. Human is no longer the most favorite child and is next to the apocalypse. Only some human can cultivate, be overlord and survive. MC, the ordinary human, gets such power, has the overlord system and also becomes the hidden system to the FL, his virtual girlfriend.

What he does is the same as other people with stll have morale intact would do.

As the day of this review, the original story is just 400 chapters so far. The story is fun, the translation is good. So, IMO, the 5/5 is OK. <<less

Ok, the novel is decent and all, and I would say the worst part is over by the part I’m at, but I might just drop it from the writing style now. I’m pretty sure it’s a translator thing, which if it is, it would really piss me off. I find it hard to believe that the author’s writing style would change so drastically. The constant line breaks and full caps words make it a pain to read through. Hell, Chinese doesn’t even have the concept of capitalization, so the... more>> full caps screaming has to be a translator bit. I hope they go back to the regular stuff and stop adjusting the original work. Actually, while writing this review I just checked the raws, and they have completely normal structure, none of this constant line breaking bullshit. F*ck this man, if this continues for a few more chapters I might just drop the whole thing. I’ve read other translations by this group, and I’ve seen they do full caps screams for other novels too. I wonder if they butcher the chapter structure too. <<less

It's not bad. The pace is OK-ish, the plot is decent too and there is a big mystery and seem to be a conspiracy happening. The getting the GF also seem to be moving along just fine. Nothing that's happening in the story is simple and it appears that the people who sent the phone to MC is up to something super shady (or there is a possibility that they are battling the ones who are doing something super shady). I am actually getting very strong "What Do You Do... more>> When You Suddenly Become an Immortal?" vibes from it, but I am hoping the author doesn't do this kind of thing as it will be bit too obvious at this point and boring. There are also some comedy in the novel and even though most of the time it's not that funny, I actually like how

Spoiler

whenever MC buys items through the game or gets rewards, the game does not actually create them, but instead quietly steals them from the antagonists' warehouses and they keep freaking out because the best items keep disappearing on them. It's not overused and is funny every time.

[collapse]

There are two things I don't really like - the MC in general is a bit dumb. It could be excusable at the start when he knew nothing, but as the story progresses he keeps being dumb, so it becomes annoying. Another thing is MC doesn't seem to progress in power that quickly and the waifu is more powerful than him. Although it looks like the author might be pulling some big instant power ups for the MC soon. Oh, and the way the plot is going, MC is basically not raising his waifu anymore, but roaming the other world all the time and smashing people himself instead of being a hidden master and helping the waifu with stuff. Sure, he still gives her things, but there are no new techniques or op items anymore, at least for now. For my taste the big thing in the latest arc after the secret realm came too quickly and became too big too fast. Right now the waifu doesn't even do anything anymore and became more of a background character.

Regardless, even if there are some things I dislike, the novel is still interesting and a decent read. The things are generally progressing and overall are not bad, so I would recommend to give it a try if you like the concept of the novel. But this novel is exactly as is written in the title and the synopsis, so if you don't like this kind of thing, just read something else. <<less
