Feng Qingyun waited for his Senior Brother for more than a lifetime, from being young and enthusiastic to having his sincere heart replaced with ashes. While his Senior Brother won praise and followers everywhere, becoming the leader of the Righteous Path, he was nothing but a dried speckle of mosquito blood- dismissed and forgotten.

But then the sky collapsed, and the whole cultivation world turned to chaos.

After using all his spiritual power to send his disciples to safety, Feng Qingyun had no choice but to wait for death, trapped in a cave with his mortal enemy… The Demon Lord, who came to mock his final moments.

“Little Palace Master, your husband is probably crying in the arms of some beauty right now, swearing to look for you in his next life, while you can only die in here with me. Giving your heart to the wrong man, do you regret it?”

Hearing his mockery, Feng Qingyun fell silent. Facing that cold expression until the sky collapsed over his body, the Demon Lord changed his tone and said lightly:” If I knew you’d turn up like this because of that fool, I wouldn’t have hesitated on your wedding day.”

“…?!”

When he opened his eyes again, Feng Qingyun returned to the night before he became his Senior Brother’s Dao companion. “Your Excellency, you were not invited,” he said calmly, walking thowards an ordinary looking cultivator. “What’s the point of coming all the way here?”

The other party was silent before removing his disguise. And just like that, the demon feared by the entire cultivation world looked at Feng Qingyun with a hint of mischief before saying: “I am here to get back what already belongs to me.”

“And what is that?”

“You.”

…………

Double rebirth, but the gong doesn’t remember in the beginning.

The flower demon turned sword cultivator who hasn’t bloomed in six hundred years vs. The Lord of the demon race who loves to tease his wife and pretend to be cool

I actually really like this one so far.

It pretty obviously belongs to the sub-sub-genre in BL Xianxia of like-

"Powerful, self-disciplined powerhouse MC spends his life enduring mistreatment for duty/love before being betrayed/worn down. His heart turns to ash, and after (optional rebirth), he runs off with a free-spirited green-flag demon powerhouse that semi-secretly loved him all along while all his Ops weep tears of blood or whatever."

It's certainly not a groundbreaking masterpiece of this setup or anything, but the main relationship is quite cute, it's solid in the emotional gratification... more>> aspect of the face slapping, and it has a promising start of an overarching plot to work with going forward.

of note- While the MC/ML aren't immediately jumping each other, it's definitely not a slow burn either; the author is already quite fond of using 'circumstances' to make them kiss, though, tbf to the series there's NO dubcon so far of any kind between the main couple, the only negative reaction MC has to any intimacy is mortification cause he's a thousand-year-virg*n recovering prude lol.

What makes this series in particular stand out to me is that it's generally got the emotional-catharsis, hurt/comfort, doomed-crematorium aspects of similar series, without a lot of the associated ever-present melancholy and brooding that often comes with it (which obviously can be a pro or con depending on your taste). It's not breakneck, but the pacing is fairly tight; so far, there's always a clear "next step" for them to take in the story. MC is hurt and done with your bullshit, but he's not a broken man the way you sometimes get with these types, and most of all, MC isn't completely betrayed/isolated before ML breaks onto the scene, MCs young junior sister, who he half raised himself, is still very close to him, and ride or die even if she's not powerful or old enough to change his situation meaningfully herself. Meanwhile, the righteous sects aren't exactly 'good-guys' by any stretch, but so far, most of them that aren't from shitty-senior-brother's direct line of disciples are just uninvolved petty gossipers or opportunists rather than like, outright malicious a**holes to MC.

so yeah,

Not life changing, but thoroughly enjoyable for what it is. <<less

Since no one else left a review just yet for this novel, let me be the first 😊 hello everyone, this novel's translator here. This is my third novel in my journey of (hopefully) learning Chinese good enough to forever abandon Google Translate, and also my first cultivation novel. I knew it was going to be hard before starting it, but oh well, I sincerely believe it's a little gem in itself, deserving to reach a wider audience, so I'm doing my best to give it justice. There is not... more>> a lot to say about the plot since the synopsis is quite spot on, but I would like to talk a bit about the main characters, and, as usual, I will mark it as a spoiler to not ruin anyone else's reading experience.

Spoiler

First of all, we have Feng Qingyun, a little spiritual plant turned sword cultivator, living his very honest and serious life inside the no. 1 cultivation sect in the Righteous Path. He's quite a mellow man in the beginning, hopelessly in love with his Senior Brother and Sect Leader, Mu Hanyang. However, his brother is in love with a woman, so their relationship is doomed right from the start. He's loyal and caring, he never complains not even when he's mistreated, and is happy to hug any little crumb of affection his beloved brother throws his way. During the events of his first life, he obediently follows Mu Hanyang for 600 years, accepting to be his nominal Dao companion even when no one respects him as such, not even his fellow disciples. Frankly speaking, it's quite infuriating in the beginning, and I'm sure everyone will be happy when he finally grows ballsy enough to slap back. And ballsy he grows 🤣 Of course, there is quite a bit of mystery that leads to the entire world ending, an event that triggers Feng Qingyun's rebirth, right on the eve of his Dao ceremony. It's just that the second time around, he quickly blooms into a confident and beautiful flower, someone who takes no sh*t from anyone, is strong and not afraid of showing it, while also continuing to be loyal and caring, but only toward those who truly deserve it.

Here enters our ML, Long Yin, the Demon Lord/Demon Emperor since both titles are used alternatively throughout the novel. He's a very suave man, someone who likes to playfully bully his partner but still very carefully cares for them, a man who would gladly die if it was beneficial for the one he loved. There's a lot to say about their relationship as they are linked throughout the events of their first life, and it's even revealed that he's Feng Qingyun's first husband, forging a relationship with him way before his Dao ceremony with Mu Hanyang. Post rebirth, he initially doesn't remember what happened before, but even without his full memories, he's still hopelessly attracted to Feng Qingyun, acting in ways and choosing to follow the same path as the past "him".

As for Mu Hanyang, he's the archetype of the hero in any cultivation novel. A prideful man who's considered the leader of the cultivation world, the type of hero who would sacrifice even his love if it meant saving the so-called "common people". He's ruthless in his rightfulness, abandoning anyone for the good of the world, and then acting like a martyr. He professes his love for his lost wife to anyone who has ears to hear, but he never hesitates to push "her" to death when it is time to save his village, even if he claims to do so with tears in his eyes. It also doesn't help that "her" turned out to be Feng Qingyun, a possibility that never crossed his mind despite the similarities between the two. Instead, he spend hundreds of years telling Feng Qingyun he would never be as good as "her", acting as if he sacrificed himself by betraying his true love and becoming his Dao companion just to humor his little brother.

[collapse]

To say a little bit about this novel, it has a bit of everything. There is mystery, supernatural events and creatures, the demons are actual demons and not just humans who cultivate the demonic path, and the love is quite steamy despite the novel not having any actual NSFW parts. Please don't hesitate to read it, I hope the rating would eventual stabilize somewhere above 4 stars <<less
