Provincial civil servant Chen Zhuoyi unexpectedly finds himself reliving his senior year of high school.

As a once shy and introverted student who would blush just from talking to girls and focused solely on studying, he suddenly becomes someone who understands social dynamics, always saying and doing the right thing at the right time. Not only does he change the course of his life, but he also increasingly attracts the attention of girls.

Girl: Chen Zhuoyi, what are your strengths?

Chen Zhuoyi: I’m honest, and I don’t talk much.

Childhood friend: I think lying is wrong. You’re not honest at all now.

Chen Zhuoyi: I didn’t lie! I’m old, and I don’t talk much.

TL;DR: Boring plot, unlikeable characters.

I couldn't continue reading this. At first, it was okay, a very simple concept of a guy going back in time to his high school days. However, the only thing I can say is that it's boring as hell. The novel is laser-focused on the day-to-day studying.

The author seems to have wanted to write someone he isn't, or maybe something he aspires to be, which I respect. Unfortunately, he failed. I can't begin to tell you the number of times the MC feels proud of "not... more>> blushing or stuttering, " it's like that is his highest achievement. And... it kinda is.

MC is not even the best student in his own class, yet he makes that his entire personality, but his aspirations are mediocre. He says he can't improve his English because "his foundation is weak." Brother, this is not cultivation, learning a language is a mostly linear experience.

Speaking of the MC, he is judgmental and self-righteous, a pompous prick who looks down on anyone who isn't Instagram beautiful or the best in their class. Ironically, he is neither of those things. The author also heavily looks down on artists portraying the artist characters as people who couldn't make it as academics.

There hasn't been any romance up to chapter 16, but the two-hinted female characters are hard to like. The artist one, MC's former crush, is a gold-digger who wants to shoot above her league, looking down on everyone. The other one is portrayed as a "cold beauty" but she has no appeal to a reader who can't see her because she never speaks. She is even cold and taciturn with her best friend. <<less

tldr: ... more>> if you want a "modern reborn" story this one is a pretty well written one with more focus on reliving youth and living a good life rather than getting rich. Although he does get rich, it's just not the focus.

also, ignore what that other review written by someone who only read 16 chapter says, it's kinda pissing me off so lemme correct some things

The protagonist being a civil servant reborn is a cunning person. Yes he is kind of vain and judgemental but if could see through everyone's childish attempts to show off, I would judge them too. And not once does he claim to be a good righteous person, nor does he make being smart his personality in fact he's actually pretty humble for how smart he is. He's also only ever a d*ck if someone is mean to him first.

secondly the author does not look down on artists, in fact, you read it correctly you can actually see that the author is critiquing the stigma that artists are only people who "couldn't make it academically".

also just because one of the girls is talented in arts and not academics doesn't mean that she's "shooting out of her league" by wanting someone smart, she just admires people who have traits that she lacks. Also the idea that she's "shooting out of her league" just cause she's artistically gifted and not academically gifted implies that arts are below academics, which contradicts the very point that they made earlier.

if there is one point that I can I agree on it's that the taciturn girl has the personality of a used mcdonalds napkin.

now getting onto my main review.

if you like other "go back in time and use your future knowledge to change your past regrets" stories you will probably like this one. Although this one has less focus on making money and more on school life, which personally I prefer.

the MC is pretty bold in his romantic advances which is fresh compared to other romance novels where the MC is frustratingly herbivorous. I actually can't stand it when the MC get's flustered over everything, beats around the bush, and is embarrassed about love even after dating, like what's so embarrassing about having feelings. Anyways the romance in this novel is a breath of fresh air with just the right amount of playfulness and straight forwardness.

so far it seems to be heading towards a monogamous ending, which I hope it keeps. Although the MC is a bit ambiguous. <<less
