Will Drawing the “Wife Card” Turn Me Into the Group’s Favorite?

During his long career completing missions, the tool-man Tang Yu’an had drawn the “Support Card,” the “Villain Card,” and the “Cannon Fodder Card.” Nothing could faze him.

But this time, staring at the three golden characters for “Wife Card,” he dragged out the system.

“Explain this.”

System: It’s simple. The host needs to take care of the protagonists’ physical and mental well-being in all aspects, acting as the team’s glue, helping them unite to defeat the villain!

Tang Yu’an understood. Just taking care of people, right? Absolutely a piece of cake.

Except for the occasional drop of strange skills like “Pitiful Appearance,” “Fragile as Porcelain,” and “Holy Light Radiance,” everything went smoothly overall.

However, after a while, he noticed the protagonists’ personalities changing. They treated him like a fragile glass bead, preventing him from doing anything, even wanting to enshrine him like a statue.

The bloodthirsty assassin held his hand, urging him to rest. The philandering playboy washed his hands and made soup for him. The always rational captain knelt beside him, tears in his eyes: “Why can’t you think about yourself for once?”

He didn’t understand. He was a tool-man; this was his mission.

So he smiled and straightened his collar: “I’m fine. As long as everyone is okay, I’m relieved.”

“Each of you is equally important to me.”

They were all protagonists; not one could be lost.

But after he died at the villain’s hands according to the plot, the system didn’t send him to the next world. Instead, it sent him three years into the future.

The protagonists seemed to have gone mad. Their former gentleness and kindness were gone. Some had slaughtered the organization that harmed him, while others, firmly believing he wasn’t dead, traveled to every corner of the world searching for him.

He took out the “Wife Card” and noticed a small line of text that had appeared at the bottom at some point:

-They all want you for themselves-

If you turned off your brain, this would be a fun read. I did that. It was fun. The novel doesn't really revolve around the romance. It's similar to those harem shounen where all the ladies want the seemingly nonchalant man.

There was an unnecessary amount of chapters used for a side character (Yu Liao) plot in the middle. He does have some significance to the story, but holy shit. It was just too long. Even the main three didn't receive individual chapters for that long. And Yu Liao didn't really... more>> contribute much in the ending. If you replaced him with someone else, it would've been the same. I'm wondering if Yu Liao is a tribute to the author's friend or something.

Nearing the end, I think that it was rushed and not very fleshed out, as I still have a lot of questions regarding everything. The progress on MC's feelings was not even there at all. It was very abrupt. The progress could've been an email.

Despite all that, what I enjoyed the most was the characters. If you liked nu carnival or some dating sim where the plot is dogsh*t but the characters are fun, you would've liked this too. My rating is 7.6/10 <<less

It started good, then got increasingly lost in side plots because the MC keeps getting separated from his harem. It's almost like the author doesn't want to write what they initially promised in the description, and it doesn't help that they ended the story after only 70 chapters. I don't see how there could possibly be a good resolution for all the loose ends in just 20 ch, and I don't want to read more only to be disappointed by the non-existent payoff. 3/5 but my fingers slipped, plus the... more>> kidnapping arc was still well written enough to make me cry. <<less

I really tried to like it. The premise intrigued me, but overtime it just turned dull. Author started to focus heavily on a sub character’s story. I kept reading on, expecting something notable to come out of him (like, what if he became a part of the main cast?) but in the end he sort of just... got discarded in a way? Like, this sub character had way more depth and personality than the actual main leads only for the payoff to be insubstantial. Things just sort of happen out... more>> of the blue too. Like in this one scene, MC pulled out a knife, got his hands and feet tied, then hit his head to make it bleed, then had a weird conversation with the sub character, then got into a hospital and... did that make any sense to you? Yeah me neither. Maybe it’s just a me problem. I also feel like the author’s not that adept at the pacing. It was rapid in the initial chapters then dragged on with the sub character’s storyline—FAR too long. Like, unnecessarily long. 3/5 because it actually entertained me at first but... it’s just pretty mid. Maybe my mind will change when more chapters come out. Kudos to the translators tho. <<less

The novel is interesting and I sympathize with MC. Despite not having solid memories of his original life, he retains humanity, compassion, and care. He's tasked with supporting the protagonists (MLs) in this world, but his role expands beyond these tasks due to events. Given that he received some unfortunate "roles" in past worlds determined by random draw of card via system, he's had a difficult past and is resistant to accepting kindness. His role changes with the "wife card" in this world, which he deems means simply supporting MLs'... more>> conditions and bringing the team together. He doesn't have a deep understanding of what effects the "wife card" and related skills serve, so the few early attempts at bringing the protagonist MLs together as a team provide brief comedic elements.

I gave a 4 star out of 5 because the current "arc" leading up to chapter 38 is highly focused on a supporting character. While this supporting character is central to the development of MC's additional character motivations and further involvement in the world, the arc was particularly long in the sense that it went very detailed into the supporting character's perspective and psychological deterioration. At this point, we have seen much more characterization of this supporting character in comparison to any of the ML protagonists. We know extensively more about this secondary character than about the MLs combined. While I don't think this sort of character-driven story development is unnecessary per se, it just feels slightly disjointed considering we don't know more about protagonists of the world. While we learn about the protagonist, this arc placed the highlight off the MC and MLs. The trajectory of the story wasn't quite as expected in terms of driving the plot, however nonetheless it does play a notable role in its suspected direction.

Despite that, I still enjoy the story and am hoping to see more of the protagonist and the MLs, as well as character development in the three MLs that have been introduced. I hope to at least know more about the first ML than the supporting character Yu Liao (Ironically, I remember the MC Yu-an's and supporting character Yu Liao's names but can't recall the MLs names at the top of my head.)

The translator translates well and I thank Dobynovels for their hard work and effort in sharing this novel to English readers! Thank you!! <<less

Reading this book was an absolute joy! The writing style and style of translating is clear and easy to read! I loved loved loved it.

As a sucker for harem bl’s this was a major success to read. I’m just on chapter 43 as of now but we get to see a decent amount of the ml’s and learn about them, not overly, but you can clearly see the romance start to simmer. Their extremely doting and essential wait on the mc’s hand and foot. They each have unique personalities which... more>> I think really helps set them each apart from one another and helps the reader decide which one their rooting for (which I liked).

This is a system novel, MC is a ‘tool guy’ who travels through different worlds to help the protagonist. But the system isn’t annoying! The system really is just there to do their job which was really refreshing. Often it kinda ticks me off when the MC spends more time talking to their system then the ml’s. But in this novel the system is their to solely do their job, aka briefly inform the MC about characters stats and possible dangerous situations.

my ONLY complaint about this novel if the fricken PAY WALL! I’m broke, I’m a university student with *currently* no job, who has to worry about residence cost, school supplies, and food. I flew through reading this novel, I had it open in my tabs and would check everyday for an update. But they decided to hide the last 20-30 chapter behind a coin system. I felt a little part of my soul die. I really appreciate the work the translator been doing but I just can’t continue. And it’s killing me!!! <<less

4.5/5

I absolutely devoured this novel in pretty much one sitting. The summary doesn't really do it justice - the story and MC is actually a lot deeper than you'd expect going into this. I really enjoyed both the writing style and the translation that clearly did it justice. Despite the initial observations the reader might have about the MC, we learn as we read along why he is the way he is - and honestly, the amount of heartbreak the poor guy has been through makes me want to just... more>> cuddle him up in blankets and surround him with only happy things. Not only him, there are other side characters that we meet and the way the author writes their experiences and what made them become the person they are today... my heart hurt at the unfairness of it all and I wasn't really expecting that depth of emotions from a novel like this. It was a pleasant surprise and even after finishing it I find myself thinking about it throughout the day - which hasn't happened in a long time for me.

Honestly my biggest gripe about the novel was that it wasn't long enough - there were so many things that I felt like we could've delved more deeply into and felt rushed instead because it was only 71 chapters. I wish the author didn't feel the need to rush the latter half of the novel but nonetheless I still ate it up. If only the author was willing to give us a few more chapters and space out the story a little more, I wouldn't feel as if the ending was a bit abrupt, which is why I docked it.5 stars. For example
Spoiler

I wish the time skip into the future wasn't so rushed - we literally only got one chapter regarding each ML and how they handled the last 3 years

[collapse]
I almost feel like the author lost interest at some point and just summarized such important aspects of the novel so that we would get some sense of closure - but not the amount that we deserved.

HE?
Spoiler

yes I'd say so

[collapse]

True Harem?
Spoiler

No, he ends up with 1 ML - which again kind of surprised me because the build up to that (at least for me) was only in the last few chapters

this had such s promising description and for it to turn out so tr*shy is so disappointing. There is barely the premise of a harem and the ML is so unexpected because the MC rarely has contact with him which makes the end even more unexpected when the MC reveals to the ML hes the one he likes. Additionally, the flow of this novel is one of the worst ive seen. Literally from the start you can already tell theres something off with the way the plot is going because... more>> I found myself so confused the more I read and no matter how much I reread it, it didnt get any less confusing. The arcs in this novel were so abruptly led into and felt so out of place that nothing seemed go connect at all. <<less

I loved this novel so much that when it ended I cried a lot, already missing the characters. I loved the futuristic/fantasy world, I loved the very charismatic ML who is not that typical cold CEO from novels, I loved the well-built characters.... And finally, I loved the MC who thought he was just a tool, but he was important for everyone!I read all the chapters in 2 days and I just finished it, I'm crying a lot, few times a novel made me have this feeling. Read it, just... more>> read it! ❤️❤️ <<less

This is the story that trapped me🤧It's a well-written story. The plot flows, albeit quite fast compared to other bl of the same world-hopping, system-oriented, Transmigration plotline. I was intrigued cause the blurb insinuated there'd be a Harem and I love me some MC with multiple MLs, so I start it and am entertained with the story, everything flows seamlessly and the sentence structure and Figures of Speech used truly invigorated the tale. But... the MC is quite unfeeling, as in he doesn't intend to pursue romantic endeavours, much less... more>> there being the 3 main protagonist's and then some other guys who are interested in him 🤧🤓.

Spoiler

MC ends up with 1 ML so there is no harem🤧

[collapse]

It's a great short Transmigration story with a well planned twist explaining the MCs past and his returning memory

And it is a BL just... not much happens😭🤓😭😭

Anyways, those interested in a BL where the romance is not the main driving force of the story, this is for yall

8/10 from me, 2 points lost cause the Harem was misled🤧and I only got little driplets of romance by the VERY END of the story🤓 <<less

I would say this is a cute novel. The main character, Tang Yuan, is a likable guy,

Spoiler

with some flavour imparted by childhood trauma.

His outwardly sweet persona that he "puts on" is kind of funny to me, since his actions prove its just how he actually is lol

[collapse]

The love interests are few but I enjoyed reading about them

Spoiler

it ends as a 1v1, which was a little unexpected, with Tang Yu'an almost dreaming up some feelings for one of the guys in a few lines.

The author explains where his feelings come from, but, I dunno, I was not that convinced.

[collapse]

The ending felt a little hand wavy after the previous Arc, with Tang Yuan involved very briefly but in a very impactful way.

Which, not that I think about it, is kind of how he's been living his lives in those other worlds....

Anyway, the translation is very good, and the author doesnt drag the story on till the cows come home, soIl'll give it a 4 out of 5, 1 star off for the ending feeling a bit odd. <<less
