Very worth my tears. The whole situation was so suffocating but I spent the novel hopeful for better times to come. The author tries to sell that everyone was living tragically but actually I feel that the FL was wronged way more than anyone else. She loved too hard so I felt the ending was fitting.

This has got to be the saddest story I have ever read... like I kid you not... I have been crying nonstop from chapter 1 to chapter 156. First of all, the story was too realistic, from each character's point of view, their thoughts, the situation occurring... everything was just so realistic that you can't help but emphasize and bawl your eyes out for them. Every one of the characters cannot be blamed for their feelings, enshrouded by the darkness upon them they were all in such a suffocating situation.... more>> What should be given up, what was held on for the longest time, what should be set free... the male lead decided to drag everything out, and thus the story became what it was. The story's title should be more like

Actually, the story's title is just right since even though she was in such a suffocating situation with every moment filled with her being tormented... the female lead still gave her all to the people she once loved. She was so gentle, so considerate, so loving, so giving... so her ending was just right. I'm glad. Maybe it should be named "No Regrets, " that would be a nice alternative name lol.

I'm so angry on her behalf though, always believing that she owed Lu Lingrui, her best friend, even though she didn't. The girl CHOSE to sacrifice herself to SAVE her BEST FRIEND. How could her family blame the female lead?!?! How could they dare!! Always saying something along the lines of "This is what you owe us, " "You should have brought her with you." I am so sick and tired of hearing from them. I know that they are her family but listen to yourself. IF THE FEMALE LEAD COULD BRING HER BEST FRIEND WITH HER, SHE MF WOULD!! Now read that again. How could they blame her when they haven't experienced that situation first-hand? I mean, I could say that I would've stayed and tried to fight. But realistically, I haven't experienced that situation so I wouldn't know if I could even do anything at the moment. Not to mention, she didn't run away, she went to get HELP. Instead of blaming her throughout all those years they should have acknowledged that the female lead was a VICTIM herself and should have all helped one another out of the darkness. Throughout the story, the female lead was just suffering, suffering, and suffering. She kept being hurt by the people she loved, and in the end.... they drove her to her end. My girl was holding on for so long to repay the people she thought she owed when she was a victim herself. I'm glad she had her own closure. I'm also so grateful for Xiao Mubai. Like let's be honest, he was the real mvp here. Always supporting the female lead, never pressuring her, always so patient, so caring towards her, even helping her throughout her darkest times. She practically held on so long also because of him. Although not actually, since she was waiting for the evildoers to suffer from their crimes. I just love her so much. How everyone suffered in the end is also just right (except the female lead). I mean I feel bad for them and understand their pain but they could have done better, honestly. Also, I don't even want to talk about the male lead because he was just so disappointing, he had so many chances to man up but chose to stab her where it hurts, not once, not twice, but for SIX YEARS. Ugh, it hurts my heart talking about everything.

In its own essence, the story deserves a rating of 5.0, however I give it a 4.5 because of the tears I shed. Anyway, it is a MUST-READ!! <<less

I just only have one thing to say because I did not read this book from the start. I read some of the reviews and knew I would not be able to handle the entire book so I started from 131, and read till the end.... I have to tell you that from that chapter onwards all I did was cry.... I sobbed every bit of the chapters that I read. I even put on some sad music (동경/longing by Park Hyo Shin, which was terribly fitting) and I bawled... more>> even more. I'm typing this review with a clogged nose and irritated sinus, knowing I cannot hate any of the characters despite wanting to because I feel for Shen Nian...

So this should obviously tell you: if you're not someone that can handle angst and sadness in its entirety maybe- you can start from there (131). If you just feel like reading something sad but if you're trying to avoid the overall just dont read this. <<less

Beware this book will trigger your anger issue and depression.

GAHHH at first this book really trigger my depression but then I forgot about it because my anger issue is back!

Before, thanks for the translator to pick this book because it's really good, I can't say it's a masterpiece but I can't count how many times I cried when reading it. Totally worth to read if you need some tragedy. TYSM for your hardwork!

it's sad ending. FL chose to end her life after all the problems solved. I expected it but still thought positivly the author wouldn't let her suffer more. *Sgh* at the same time I also understand why end her life is one of the choice.

The Male Lead is the most disappointing character. Some part of the story doesn't make sense but you can ignore it. I just can't stop my anger issue when they still blame FL. Until the end, the author still wrote that FL took a blame too. Called it karma because she left Rui. I hope people that on same situation like her don't take it to heart.

I wish the aouthor will write more to show the detail how the ML lives later. I can't really feel his regret because it's too short.

Anyone know how many chapters? I'm trying to hold on to see those better days, but it's hard because I don't care how much pain the brother is in, he's still s*um so far. I'm not giving a rating yet because I don't know how I feel about it, but if you like angst (and I do if there's a payoff) then I think I can guarantee that there will be plenty! Haha

Wow. I am truly wordless. This novel is triggering and hopeless and sad and so sad. I wanted to say that I hate this story. It was beautiful in it's heartwrenchingly, unnecessary, unfortunate sadness, BUT for the author to say this is all some karmic retribution is BS. I absolutely hate that and it is the reason I can't give this story 5 stars. This wasn't karma, this wasn't justice or retribution. This is a story of normal people being hurt and broken and then hurting and breaking others who... more>> are also hurting and broken. This is a story of selfishness, selflessness, and ultimately the never ending abyss that sadness can become and how it swallows us whole. As for others feeling some type of way about Shen Nian. I don't blame or feel betrayed by Shen Nian's choice- after everything she has been through I sincerely hope that she found the peace and solace she so very much deserved in that choice. <<less

Bad! Bad ending! Why did she have to do that to herself?? I totally disagree with the karma take on Shen Nian's death. Lingrui's death CANNOT be attributed to Shen Nian. This entire story is just survivor bias...

Overall, the story is just very bitter. Not sweet. Not even bittersweet. Just bitter. Like a cup of black coffee with no sugar. I think ultimately, the thing that makes this so bitter for me is the fact there was once a chance to turn things around. Yet unfortunately, there are no what if's in their world, and the ending is just like that. <<less

Shen Nian (FL) suffered so much. She became the target of blame/hate just bc she's the one who "survived". Meanwhile, I truly disliked ML (Lu Lingchuan) and his family, I can't sympathized with them despite their loss bc they targeted hate to a young girl who didn't owe them anything. Their selfishness and treatment of her were big factor on FL's destruction. ML never considered FL's feelings even when she spent most of her life to support him in everything including company, personal and seeking justice to sister.

She lost her child, ab0rted and left by the ML to marry another girl bc he wanted to let her go (WTH) bc their family suddenly being guilty on what they did (which already late realizations).

She only waited for the suspects to be punished and her reasons to live was banished.

Meanwhile, the ending obviously took toll to ML but he need to continue living despite unbearable pain bc his family can't bear to lose another member.

Honestly, couldn't blame her decision in the ending. I'm glad at least one person understood her the most which was Xiao Mubai until end... as he said, she's finally free. <<less

Drama. Tragedy.

These two words need extra emphasis.

I would give this one star but it made me read on. The writing was that compelling. Like a runaway train just waiting to derail and crash.

Like in another review, I hate the way it ended all on 'karmic retribution'. I feel like I get what the author was going for but maybe it's a culture thing. I feel it's more like, 'Actions have consequences.' and/or 'You reap what you sow.'

I spent my entire morning reading this story, and I'm still crying right now. The potrayal of the characters are really realistic. The FL is the most pitiful of all. ... more>>

After losing her parents, she was comforted by her best friend, the ML's sister. They were very close, even considering each other sisters. To FL, her best friend was her only family. Through her, she become close with her best friend's family, especially her mother and even got the eldest brother as her boyfriend. But then her best friend met tragedy, and su*cide later. The FL also miscarriage. The ML lost his sister, his child and also almost his lover. Everyone blamed the FL, even herself.

I was so frustrated with the ML. He love the FL so much, but also blame her for his sister's su*cide. He keep abusing the FL psychologically and sexually. The FL continue living and supporting him to atone for her sin.

I'm the end, when everything was resolved, the ML decided to let go of her in the name of letting her free. Like, why did you decide that by yourself? You decide to confine her before, and now you just let go? Without telling her anything? She wanted you be happy! She agree to break up because she thought it would make him happy.

Although the FL was deeply depressed at that time, I thought if only the ML hold on her, talk with her properly, perhaps they still will not be together, but the ending wouldn't be so sad...

The ending was so sad. No one was happy. Although thinking back, perhaps the ML was the one most pitiful? He was left alone after all. I imagine without FL, he would just fade away one day...

  1. This tragedy was also because of the FL. She has almost no support after losing her best friend. She herself was also emotionally weak and very sentimental. She insist on holding on to avenge her best friend, that after years, she was simply exhausted. Her boyfriend, the ML, was also another cause of her depression. Everyone including herself blame her, although everyone also knows it's not her fault, they still couldn't accept it. The male friend of FL try to support her, but she already was too exhausted to live. In the end, it was too late. I hope in another life, the FL was able to live happily with the ML.
