This book was a delightful read. I have always been a fan of sad angsty books and this fit rightly in my description.

this story DOES NOT get a happy or supposedly cliche ending. The MC and the ML does not become a happy couple in the end. But I suppose there were reasons for the ML to reject the MC. Honestly I would have done the same if I were in his position. I adored the plot and the backstory. It was painful to read but logically beautiful at the... more>> same time. The author did a great about making it short, reasonable and sad. <<less

I truly enjoyed this read. The only downside was that I came in seeking a heart wrenching angst novel but got light-ish angst instead which made me unable to fully immerse myself in the story as I was waiting for the other shoe to drop so that I can cry my heart out. Oops...

Aside from that, this was really a beautiful story. It was well written in a simple manner (does this even make sense) yet it carried so much emotions at the same time. I loved the development... more>> of the MC. From his tenacity and ability to hold on to the little things that allowed him to pull though and live on, to him slowly losing those one after another which led to the emptiness of his heart. That is what makes a good angst novel character. As for the ML, I don't think he was psycho enough tbh. Like, I felt that he wasn't pushed past his breaking point. That would have added to the angst.

I think the author gave them the perfect ending, both having the closest thing to happiness they can get yet living in pain at the same time (wow I sound so cruel). A great ending to an angst novel, not HE nor BE but a neutral ending. However, I would have also liked if the author puts the MC to sleep forever after achieving his lifelong dream of leaving the palace or after Xiao Bao left to indicate that he has finally let everything go and has nothing to tie him down, making him willing embrace the freedom and escape that death brings. And of course the ML will have to live with his death and only meet his love in his memories and dreams. Maybe let him make a stuffed doll out of the MC's corpse or something. Hehehe

Anyways, a total recommended read! <<less

enjoyed reading this and I like this story so much at the beginning might give this 5/5 if they give us a better ending, I love MC so much he's so pure and kind, I just wanted to give him a warm hug and pat his head ;-; I ABSOLUTELY cried a lot reading this because why cant all the good things happen to him? I don't really like the ml..
Spoiler

since he's too possessive AND DO YOU EXPECT SOMEONE TO FORGIVE YOU RIGHT AWAY WHEN YOU ARE THE REASON HES BLIND????

My first review here (sorry my english is not good)

Firstly, I'm getting shocked by the ending.

I'm crying my eyes out, and it suddenly end? I need more explanation, because everything still questionable for me

Some characters, need their punishment and some need their happy end TvT

The characters are all good, they deserved a happy ending tbh TvT

Maybe if there's more chapter, I can give 5 stars, but for now 4 stars is enough for this beautiful story, worth to read.

I felt the story was ok, the characters were kinda whatever to me (apart from the little prince who is an angel, and general with his master, who are just always good to see), but then the ending happened and made it really good. Really good. There is one thing that makes me angry about the ending - ... more>>

the fact that despite thinking he did, Wen Mu Yan actually didn't get what he wished for. I think after all the mess he would deserve getting out of the palace for real and not being put in a pavilion and lied to. The Emperor doesn't deserve watching him - but at least he's hurting, I guess.

It was all very on-brand for the character though, maybe that's why it's good even if it makes me mad. The last chapter (and the short epilogue) made it worth reading for sure. <<less

It took me a while even though it's short but now I am done and it was a good read to me. The writing style is quite lovely and I really liked how things were mostly described in a pretty soft way.

Rating: 3/5- I dunno how to feel about this story.

I think it’s thought provoking and it’s definitely tragic but the ML was a very poorly written character. I don’t really agree with the ending either.

All in all, I felt like this was about one person’s irrational selfishness and another person’s misery. The MC certainly deserved a better ending.

The story is short so don’t expect much character growth. I dunno... I perhaps had an expectation from the high ratings and the tragedy tag- but instead I felt nothing really. Maybe some... more>> pity for the MC because he truly suffered, but I felt nothing else. This isn’t a romance at all and if that was the author’s intention then well done. If not, well then... <<less

It was really really well written.

I had hoped for a happy ending but I realised that this suited them more.

This story was Excruciatingly depressing, especially when you consider that historically speaking, this may have actually happened to people.

Not sure why I thought a story with a blind concubine and the tag "tragedy" would lead to a HE. But the writing and translation were good, so if you want a good cathartic cry, then I highly recommend.

I read this long time ago, and I know I was devastated at the ending. But now I reread it, and I'm kinda confused by some things. Especially what was written in first chapter:

"This is the first meeting between the blind concubine and that man.

Afterwards, a very long time afterwards, when the blind concubine reminisces upon these memories, he will ask: "Why did you lie to me and say you were a guard?"

The man teasingly says: "Because you looked easy to trick."

The blind concubine will say indignantly: "I do not!"

The man raises his eyebrows in disbelief, opens his mouth, thinks for a moment, but then swallows the words that he was originally saying, "Oh alright, I concede."

Like their first meeting, the man's soft gaze concentrates on his lover. Never has it wavered in the slightest despite the endless passing of time. Regardless, regardless of the fact that he knows the blind concubine will never be able to see it."

So... I think the whole novel is few months event. And then emperor basically makes a golden cage for him.

So where they have time to fondly reminisce about their past? Did MC forgive emperor in far far future or author forgot what kinda story he wanted to make?

I totally did not expect the ending to be like that. Everything was very realistic and well written to me. Throughout the whole novel, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the MC. Though it's neither a HE nor a BE, I still can't help crying over the ending. I guess it depends on which perspective you're looking from? But anyway, this novel is really good and definitely worth reading!!

It's a pretty good story and I really feel bad for the MC, as he is really a victim and unlucky.

The ending is not that satisfactory as the story is not wrapped. But if you think it's an sad ending, I want to comfort you that it's not the case, please read the ending of chapter 1 again. :)

It was so good it hurt. The ending was tragic but it made sense for what it is. Honestly, although I want it to be a happy ending I would’ve hated it if he actually fell in love with the emperor. All the trauma. All the pain. All the suffering. The ending did justice for all of it. I do think it could’ve been executed better. It felt a little rushed. Nonetheless, it’s also perfect the way it is.

This read definitely deserved 5/5 stars, periodt.

To be clear, it's a tragedy. Not the pseudo-tragedy like in s*um gong/ML transmigration stories where we get to feel catharsis over the pain the s*um men feel when they finally regret how sh*t they've been to their "loved" ones, but a real, engrossing, and deep tragedy that wraps its fingers around you and squeezes, hard. You should turn around if you're here for something fun, whimsical, or light, but if you want something that will linger with you for longer than a few... more>> moments after finishing it, definitely give this a try. The author doesn't try to wrap the story up into an unrealistically perfect and idealistic little HE bow, but presents the readers with a poignant poem in the form of an intricate story that lives on indefinitely in our minds. Sad, but beautiful. Left me feeling perfectly undone. Ironically, refreshing. 5/5. <<less

4.5/5 but rounded up to 5 because I can always respect a story that stays true to itself and is not afraid of not having a happy ending for the sake of fixing things. (It is hinted there is a HE in the distant future? But since we never get there let's not count it)

How can the Blind Concubine and the Emperor have a happy ending when the Emperor is the reason why the Blind Concubine is blind and has been forgotten in the Cold Palace?

[collapse]

I really really loved the Blind Concubine, the kidness that comes from isolation and sorrow and his disability. The joy he experiences for the little things because he missed them.
Spoiler

Even if he was tricked in the end, he got his wish to leave the Palace. Unfortunately, he reverse to his Cold Palace state of not even knowing if he's alive anymore... that broke my heart.

[collapse]

I also loved the Emperor
Spoiler

(despite being too dumb to understand that he'll need a lifetime to repay what he did to the Blind Concubine and even then it may not be enough)

[collapse]
Gosh the start when he just dotes on the Blind Concubine is fantastic.

The side characters carried the story. Xiao Bao with his loyalty, the Little Prince with his innocence, General Qi and Ju Yue by caring about MC's well being
Spoiler

and having one really weird love story of their own

Spoiler

The poor cat tho. Was that necessary?

I really loved this story. To me, it is much more convincing than other stories of ''the Concubine of Ancient time'' trope.

The MC character is well written and his actions are realistic till the end.

Of course, I would have liked a better ending for MC, meeting new loved ones, etc. Aside from that, the ending was great.

Since the MC can't get happiness in this life, neither can the ML.

The very first tragedy I've read. Even tho I steeled myself and try not to bee attached to the MC, I still cried bucks for him. ML was very doting towards the MC until the plot twist happened. For a 20-is chapters, this one really stayed in my mind.

If you're in for a short, angsty tragedy, go for it. I absolutely love the story. I gave that ending a 5/5 because omg, it's so fxxked up. I know some people are complaining about the emperor (ML) or about the lack of love.. etc. That's the whole point of this story. If you familiar at all with any palace stories, the Emperor is like a beast... you can't love it nor serve it because they always kill you in the end when necessary.

I love how the story builds the... more>> suspense. It reminds me of a mystery case from one of those old, ancient drama (Justice Bao... etc). <<less

Even though when I read a couple of comments I was ready to feel down, I didn't expect to cry.

This story is beautiful yet really sad.

I grew attached to the main character and while I was reading the last couple of chapters, I felt as if my heart was being stabbed countless times.

Perhaps, I am too sensitive!
