It's beautiful. Especially the extra volume. It's a slice of life. It covers their story when they first met up to the end of their lives. It also explained the business side not just purely romance. Some might find those parts boring but it shows people's ambitions and how they work hard to get what they want. I like how their careers progressed. ML taught FL a lot of things and he let her do her thing. ✅ Being a corporate s*ave

✅ Can you... more>> have love and career at the same time?

✅ Not all first love lasts

✅ uncertainty of the future

✅ business schemes

✅ why marriage is not simple

***This author really knows how to make readers cry so just prepare your tissues. I must say I like it more than Waiting for You in a City. Han Ting and Ji Xing's love is different from Song Yan and Xu Qin. <<less

Summary - Follow our FL, Ji Xing from being a competent, yet frustrated & burdened white-collar worker to being a successful entrepreneur from scratch (with a huge Main Female Lead Character Halo, by the way).

My two cents- This is actually my first Chinese BG novel that I am willing to read all the way through. After being fed up with how most Chinese BG Authors baby their FLs- no matter how smart or competent the FL is, but when it comes to her interactions with the ML, her IQ and EQ drops big time to minus 100 right from the beginning. Stop it.

STOP. IT. It is not cute. Nor is it entertaining.

Talking about this work, did I come here for Romance? No. But not disliking it either. I came for the FL's genuine entrepreneurial prowess and especially her struggles as a little white collar worker who is slowly manifesting her big dream of being her own Boss, refusing to be just another corporate-s*ave etc etc

But what I got instead was her depending on the ML for almost everything..? Yeah, from providing the angel investment to hinting or straight up providing her with future plans of action AND advising her on how she should currently manage her newly established company. Like dude's everywhere. Every step of the way. And I have no problems with that - especially considering that she was what bearly 25 years old at that time. Nothing wrong about a senior taking a capable newbie under their wing. Plus he is actually her only investor. BUT.

BUT!! here's when her (FL's) immature attitude towards others is clearly evident for the better part of the story:

  • Her extremely sarcastic remarks towards her seniors - both the ML and Zeng Di. Now, Zeng Di isnt that great either. But she's still FL's senior and far more professional than her with years of experience and achievements under her belt. And talking about ML-FL dynamic - These sugarcoated jabs which she casually delivered to the ML were supposed to be playful banter, I guess? But these happened one too many times. Which is weird (and ultra-unrealistic) for a 15 manpower CEO to deliver to a CEO of an international conglomerate, when they are nodding acquaintances at best. In most of FL- ML's initial interactions, she's like an annoying younger cousin with gifted tongue-wagging skills. As another reader commented, she has a serious Princess Syndrome.
  • The Author tried to make her a realistic character by adding attributes like Vanity and Hypocrisy to her personality. Which I appreciate - it is a far better option than making her into a sobbing FL biting her handkerchief at the sidelines (like most Chinese BG novels). But the way and timing of executing these flaws in the story is utterly self-defeating. Made the concept fall flat on its face. Like these flaws, if executed the right way could have made the FL realistic and more relatable.. but ended up doing the opposite - making her rather annoying. Sometimes I wonder if the archetype 'Annoying FL' was the Author's intentions all along? For what I know, the Author is quite experienced & often delivers profound ideas/dialogues in their work. For example, when the ML demands an (almost positive) answer from her about their romantic endeavours -- The FL didnt even try to hide her blatant hypocrisy. She knowingly acted cute around him for months, taking his money, support, guidance, and finally sleeping with him after she couldn't handle her ex-boyfriend being in a happy relationship with someone else. And lets be real. The biggest reason the FL dislikes Zeng Di is because Zeng Di was the only outstanding female interacting with the ML, be it business or otherwise. That is why the FL would always try to guess their relationship and secretly check her out. It is very subtle in the book, but you'll get it. FL was irked by another 'friendly' female hanging around the ML as FL had her own machinations for the ML. BUT when the ML wanted to further pursue their romantic relationship, FL did a complete 180 & says crap like "people will shun my Company, after knowing their CEO slept her way through"... Now, granted the CEO is the face of the group, but shunning a whole Company because of this..? Okay. This is simply unrealistic. Girlie was actually terrified about her own self being talked about and pointed fingers at, but masked it as her being a 'Considerate and Responsible Boss' for the sake of her Company employees. Tsk. And as the ML rightly points out - she clearly knows she isnt competent enough to stand out as a new and upcoming leader in the Business world to shut these rumours so she does what she can - play cute with people, get what she wants & later pat her bu*t and go.
  • The Author never - NEVER made her act like a shrew or a hypocrite or even cunning enough when it comes to business and dealing with problematic people. Oh yeah, there's the ML for that - she just needs to act like a saint. On the other hand, while dealing with people in her inter-personal relations, where she should be somewhat genuine, she is elusive, inexplicably prideful, vague & avoids responsibility like a plague. And that is the lack luster and disappointing part about her character setting for me.
  • Everytime her Mom calls her to ask about her well-being, FL roars and howls like she's being disturbed while executing an Earth- saving mission. Happens EVERY. TIME. At first it made me wonder if she actually had an abusive step-mother or something. This attitude isnt necessarily a character flaw, but is still unattractive for a FL. Just another example of FL being sloppy with her inter-personal relationships. AND getting away with it. Everytime she experiences mildly sly people across the business world, she is saddened and 'her heart is chilled' that their values are so different from her set moral attributes since childhood... Like what moral attributes? Being two-faced (for the worst possible reasons), and how to excel at being a chuunibyou? If being her own Boss and keeping her version of 'morally upright' was all she was aiming for she'd better open up an NGO, avoiding these situations 'making her heart chilled'. Huh? What do you mean no..? Oh yeah, forgot about the FL's vanity to strive for luxury. But when working for a higher income brackett, she also has to be superr judgemental and prideful. Like how she convinces herself that she hates women who make subtle use of their beauty and feminine charm, but copies them right the next week, while still deluding herself that she is better than them. *Sigh*

    Also, the FL asking the ML if he loves her enough to sacrifice his everything for her and die for her to prove his love when they've been dating for less than 3 months...I don't even know what to say T_T

Were she a shrewd person both in person and in business-

OR an untainted, naive person on both ends-

OR could play her cards right i.e. 1) Be calculative and manipulative when pushed to the edge - because she knows the situation could still be salvaged. 2) Conversely, knowing when to give up and being graceful enough to take the backseat without being willful like a 3 year old-

These would've been less annoying, more realistic and likeable character settings, in my opinion.

When it comes to the ML:

  • The Author was clearly contradicting ML's Character building. On one hand, they make the ML this Sigma Male with a difficult personality who has no time for BS and on the other hand, he has no problems babying the FL (even when there was no chemistry between them initially) ?
  • Now, it was ML's calculative move to approach her (and her Company) but I think, given his Character setting, the Author made him fall for her willy nilly. It would have been much realistic if the Author made him repeatedly test out the FL first, till he figures her capabilities out and genuinely appreciating her as a person and as a reliable partner, rather than straight up spoon feeding her all the time and falling for her 'cuteness' that could only impress preteen boys.

    One of ML's inner monologues goes like "... especially her (FL), who is small-minded regarding matters of the heart". He knew she (FL) couldnt see things from a higher perspective. And he did the practical things needed to appease her in the background, hoping to keep her by his side, but he kept mum on his intentions about all these actions and his hopes for their future. And even when they break up, he stays emotionally constipated.

I understand that the Author meant to showcase her Character growth from a mere nobody to an independent entrepreneur in Beijing. And it would have been better if that would have been achieved with scenarios where she messed up at the Company due to her inexperience, executing clumsy ideas and slowly learning from her mistakes, but that didnt happen. She's still like that mean younger cousin whom everyone wants to avoid at family gatherings.

It finally changes around chapter 70. Took way too long for her character growth to finally rear its head, if you ask me.

That being said, it is still very much different from the bulk of existing Chinese BG novels, where the FL is either sidelined, yet fantasizes about the ML with her rose coloured glasses on OR is actually a 3 year old annoyingly spoiled baby trapped in a mature body. *Sigh* <<less

Really loved this novel.

A big fan of this author's "Waiting for You in a City". As I am waiting for the drama adaptation of it, I came to know of another novel to drama adaption, which was called 'As Beautiful As Beijing' by the same author, so I had to read it. So so good. I have to agree with max111, I liked this novel better than 'Waiting for You in a City'.

You Are More Beautiful Than Beijing is about Ji Xing, who is in the AI industry and dreams of building a company and breaking barriers. And Han Ting, an influential investor and businessman. This story is broken down into three volumes. The first is about Ji Xing's journey to achieve her dream. The second volume is about Han Ting and Ji Xing working in the same industry and the start of romance. The third novel is about their love story with some cute extra chapters.

What I liked about this novel... more>> is that there's a lot of career growth in Ji Xing's journey. Because we see her pursuing her dream and all the struggles she has to go through, it's easy to see how she's evolved from vol 1 through to 3. I like the slow-burn romance and how there are a lot of interactions between them before any serious feelings are even developed. I also like how these two hold flawed characteristics despite being good-looking or intelligent (I realized this author likes writing about flawed characters). These characters are well thought out and written in that even though they make unlikeable decisions, it can be justified through their character traits. It makes sense from how Han Ting vs. Ji Xing sees love that they would make certain decisions.

I disliked how slow it took for us to get any romance. I like a slow burn, but only if romance trickles in. This one felt more like a business/career novel in the first half and romance in the last half. So we get some jargon that I don't understand, and it doesn't make sense to me, but it sounds fancy. Not sure how accurate it is in the AI and medical field, but it doesn't sound too reaching.

Apart from that, if you're okay with a slow burn, appreciate a strong woman, like flawed but well-thought-out characters, then this one may be a good read for you. <<less

It's been awhile since I read a story that can move me to tears like this.

This story brought out lot of aspects in our life. Studies, career, friendship, social relationship, moral values, and what love is.

The setting of the novel is touching the realm of the contrast of hyper rich/successful and those who are struggling and learing to grow. But the authour brilliantly (I shouldnt be surprised tho, all of their other works are amazing too) put meaningful life lessons without being cliché and none of the twists and... more>> turns are overused. It makes the readers question things and our way of thinking in the most profound way.

And all this wont be possible without the amazing translation either. Couldnt find a fault.

The best romance story ive ever read. Brought so much range of emotions. And gave me lotta mood swing, happy sad, angry sad, sad then happy.. When I really hope at end of the extras will bring joy n happiness, yet gave me mixed up bittersweet feeling of the sad yet beautiful picture of everlastin love. *Aarggh.. So frustrated couldn say much cos english not my mother tongue. Translator and author, I really grateful for your hardwork. HOPE you will keep spreading the happiness to all of the readers.

It’s 3am and I just finished reading. With tears in my face. Such a beautiful novel.

I had hard time reading it as it’s too real, especially the beginning chapters. Too realistic and downright embarrassing sometimes. But the characters grow and evolve and endear themselves to us. I have not felt so connected with the characters like I do with FL and ML.

A really good read. And I’m happy I picked up this novel to read. I hope you will too.

They are not omnipotent. They have flaws. They are materialistic. But emotional and mentally growth with happiness, joy, sadness, broken heart, ego, betrayals and tears.

I cried when her 7 years relationship shattered. Both of them were still in love at that time, but he knew that their concept of life and love is different after facing the reality of life. He wants a beach layback, ordinary, normal and easy love life but she wants power to face the mountain of life.

When her short relationship broke up, she was devastated. She... more>> was lost. ML wants to be the Emperor and she was afraid of the real hidden power of the mountain.

Unknown to her, ML actually taught her to be the Empress. Wether she succeed or not, he doesn't bother. His love definition is different from common people. Because to be able to stand still at the peak of the mountain you are not an ordinary person.

He said to her, "The love I believe in probably lasts until the end of life. When I look back, I will have a definitive conclusion."

"Mr. Han, it was a pleasure to know you. Thank you for everything in this life." <<less

Beautiful, honest, tear jerker.

I especially liked the extra chapters. They are the most meaningful to me right now, being older...

While I don't understand much about the business and technology side of this novel, it was well written so as to guide readers unfamiliar with this field.

The ending is gorgeous.

A memorable book, worthwhile reading.

From the 1st line to the last I was hooked up.. It's a very atypical story with very realistic FL & ML. I love the slow growth of their love into a passionate one.. and also loved the FL's first love experience which made me cry a lot..

Like everyone else, the last chapter defines their kind of Love.. inseparable through life and death..

Last but not the least, Thanks to the translator for a beautiful work...

If only every person in the world would have a love like Han Ting and Ji Xing how nice could that be?

I too am one who wish to have it but reality is really too harsh and sad. Still somehow for me this novel filled in the void that I have albeit temporary.

Thank very much to the author and to the translator thisnovel is truly a wonderful work.

This was an awesome story, very realistic and well-written. The characters were all relatable, no one in extremes, and behaved like how you would expect normally in life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and the translation was excellent and on time.

A must read. The novel is exquisitely done. The slow burn does not drag the series at all. In fact, it highlights the characters even more.

I didn't even managed to put down my phone as I read it.

The translation was done so well. It did justice to the novel so it can shine in another language. 🥹 I'll reread again!

I’m so glad I persisted reading the story. The story started from when they do not know each other. I love the way ML teach her the way of life for entrepreneurship, it might looks quite cruel but I think its needed in that kind of settings. It also gives me a new outlook on how to be a better leader. Overall the story is mature and become fluffier towards the end. The translator make a good job translating the story but the story is so interesting that I just... more>> want to read it until the end in one setting so I MTLed it. The MTL version is also readable. Love the ending too. I really encourage everyone to read this story <<less

This is probably the best novel I have read in all these 6 years. I looked at the development of the characters and their relationships. Throughout the novel, I had different feelings about situations and characters. This is probably the one novel that I will never forget. He made me cry the most in my 6 years of reading novels. I really liked the relationships of the characters and the way the author showed and developed them. Maybe when I'm even older, I'll want to read it again and cry.

The whole story was actually really realistic. Life is not a bed of roses so there will always be hardships and we have to work hard to overcome them. The extras made me tear up so bad. Han Ting and Ji Xing's love would always stay in my mind especially because of the ending! I hope they find each other in the afterlife 🖤

Thank you to Author who wrote wonderful realistic novel and to Krish728 as translator who did an awesome works to deliver a wonderful translation.

I really recommend this novel to anyone who love a realistic plot. So expect some laughs, cry, happiness as the journey of life.

The FL grew slowly with ML's support and love their love story and Han Ting was there for Ji Xing.

I was crying because on last extra as the parting but don't worry, this novel is happy ending but the story was till the end of... more>> their life and I really wish the author will write more extras but unfortunately it won't happen. So hopefully the drama will as good as the novel.

Another reason I love this novel, so many advice from ML that I feel like I need to note down for my daily life as well.

Author really did a good research 👏 for this novel. <<less

First, I want to thank the translators for translating this beautiful story and making it accessible to us, this is my favorite chinese novel and will remain to be for a long time.

I love the characters, in the last chapter I was crying so much, I still feel like crying😭 What I loved most about this book is, it realisticness which can be rare in most chinese novels and how well written it was.

This is especially in vl 1-2 when he was mentoring her, clearly you could see this is... more>> a man who's skilled, has loads of experience and an elite in business, inshort a successful CEO.

Some of the advices he gave esp on management and startups I felt like I should also take notes 😁/ learn from him. This shows that the author took time to research businesses, companies, AI e.t.c which is great. Sometimes I hate how people write books based on a career only to gloss over the whole career with a mere 5 sentences, how are we supposed to believe the MC was good at it when the author can't prove it🧐

I also appreciated and loved how the author took time to explain their diff points of view especially on love, work and career which is crucial otherwise we would end up misunderstanding both of them.

This was an amazing book, a worth it read and the translation was on point and very well done💜 This is one of those books that would live on my book shelf (if I had it in paperback) and I would reread it once in a while just to re-live all these beautiful moments. This will be saved as a favorite in my library online account for a long while.

And lastly I really want a love like this, (I know its cheesy but it doesn't hurt to wish and dream) a love that lasts everyday and goes on till the last moment and beyond🥰 <<less

Love this novel!! So beautifully written!!

I didn't even realise I was so attached to this novel until I reached the last chapter. I cried while reading the last chapter, it's kinda ironic because I didn't know whether I was happy or sad. I loved both the characters in the novel. They were so realistically writter. This novel portrayed every emotion from admiration to love to betrayal to love again. I was kinda boring at some point but I'm glad I finished it.

I specifically created an account just to rate the book and give it 5 stars.

Love. I think this word was perfectly described in this book. I really hope I get to have what Han ting and xing'er had in this life.

Ji Xing lived life. There were definitely moments I felt she was immature, but that is what made her seem so real.

... more>> The first time she broke up, I cried with her. The second time too, I cried. (I guess I was really emotional)

Reading the whole thing in just one day definitely was a different experience. I was too involved in the story by the end of the day.

Overall, really lovely story. <<less
