Qin Qingxue had ambitions higher than the sky. She used Li Ye to become the first female general of the Great Yuan Empire.

After returning triumphantly, she didn’t hesitate for a second before casting aside the very man who had supported her.

And then, she went on to be with Shi Wushuang, a man famous across the world.

She thought she had climbed to a higher branch, not knowing it was actually the most foolish decision of her life.

“I spoil my own woman—who do you think you are? That so-called noble gentleman Mo Ruyu? You’re not even worthy to carry my shoes.”

“Dare to lay a finger on my Great Yuan Empire, and I’ll crush even the Holy Lands if I must.”

On the surface, he was an unfavored prince—but in secret, he had already built a vast underground empire.

He kept a low profile as a prince, but when he acted, enemy nations were wiped out with the snap of a finger.

Emperor Li Xuantian was shocked: “This… this was done by my good-for-nothing son?”

The title is a lie ' the MC's ex regrets her choices', but after reading over 300 chapters, I can confidently say that's barely even a subplot. You could count the actual moments of "ex regret" on one hand and it takes over 200 chapters before any of it even starts to surface.

This has got to be the most frustrating novel I've red with how incompetent the cast is. Forget about the karma/regret hook with the ex, the novel is mostly about warfare with schemes upon schemes. Plot goes: Before... more>> the kingdom was established/rose to power, they had help from some weak sect (Pavillion idk I use mtl). That sect over time also rose to power to become the strongest sect and gain fame and recognition and they're not satisfied with just being the top sect anymore, they now want to control the Kingdom as well. That's where the story starts, some guy in that sect who's the number 1 disciple stole mc's war general chick and tries to help her raise her rank so he could control the kingdom/empire (I can't really tell since mtl keeps changing it) 's military and reduce their strength. MC at first didn't know his true motives and couldn't be bothered with his ex's new ventures and only wants to do more businesses and improve the lives of his people. And by doing so he unintentionally damages the dudes schemes and hinders his ex. And also gets the attention of the king/his father and now is forced to compete with his siblings for the chance to inherit the throne. One of the main reasons why is because MC really couldn't care less about the sect while his sibling competitors keep trying to curry their favor because they think with the sect's backing, they have a higher chance to inherit the throne, and the king absolutely despises that sect but doesn't openly show it because of how revered the sect is.

This is where the incompetence hits peak levels. The MC's brothers especially the crown prince constantly work with the sect and even foreign enemies to sabotage the MC. And they don't do this in secret either. The king knows they're doing this. He has spies. He gets mad. And then... he does nothing.

Examples of this include:

The crown prince sabotaging the MC's flood relief efforts by ordering local officials to hike up prices so the MC can't fix anything.

Spoiler

The crown prince and third prince smuggling weapons to enemies during wartime just to get the MC killed.

Both of them sending assassins after the MC multiple times.

All of this is known to the king, but he keeps letting them off without consequence. No punishment. And it isn't like he's indifferent towards it, hes downright furious about their actions and wholeheartedly supports the MC. Nothing. And the reasoning given is flimsy at best on why he can't punish them with obvious evidence, instead the emperor keeps hindering MC because he fears mc's growing power and thinks he might rebel. Really ridiculous, do nothing towards people who frequently damages their empire and burden the guy with who keeps making their country flourish with endless rask and not reward him. The writing is actually super frustrating that I don't really care whether the novel is well written or not (it's not).

It's just so... frustrating. Not to mention how many times this MC keeps accepting peace offerings after being invaded and he claims he cares about his people and stuff. MC literally accepted peace offerings from the same exact barbarian tribe that invaded their country 3 times. One of it literally goes barbarians invade > they lost > send peace offerings > MC accepts > immediately go to war with them again once they recuperated and armed themselves > lost again > offer peace > MC accepts. Now what happens is they go to war once again and many of his people die and he "loves" his people.

The worst part is the novel tries to sell all of this as part of the MC's genius 200-IQ plan. But when his military strategies boil down to "pretend to retreat > bait the enemy > ambush, " it's hard to take that seriously. It's rinse and repeat tactics, over and over again. MC is basically carried by having guns (oops I mean crossbows) in a war where people still use swords.

finally dropped it when I saw a chapter hinting a romance between MC and the empress of a kingdom that tried to kill MC and killed many of his men. Guess this MC is ruthless till it involves a hot woman. Absolutelt disgusting, MC giving her food, kissing her to make her drink water, and treating her wounds after she literally chased him the whole day with her army trying to kill him and his companions

Also since this is translated by darkstar, they'll do their usual batch chapters to get readers hooked into 1 chapter per day or every other day and then slow down their updates with 100+ locked chapters and pick up another face slapping regret cn novel from qimao. <<less

sh*t was good, the basic face slapping starter package and all, until the author decided: "hey, what's a better way to show off how strong and powerful the MC is than the good ol' way of sending him into a WAR to kill all of the barbarians?"

I immediately quit right then and there.

Lets not talk about the horror of actual WAR for a second.

Spoiler

you know how exactly did the author show cased the MC as a commander? Collect intelligence on the enemies? Properly maintain order in the army? Strategize? No, no, no, that's too advanced. He's just gonna start flying and magically kill all of the enemies with his new cultivation bullsh*t in a chapter or so. The actual combat fit in one chapter, while the rest of the chapters are spent Glazing how strong and powerful the MC is. It's infuriating how they (the author) could treat WAR so lightly, in such a fervent gaze, used only to glaze and show off the MC's power. Have they never seen the consequences of war? The scar on those who survived? How even children are killed, one way or another, intentionally or not, mercilessly in an actual war? How much pain it brings? How many families did it rip apart? And the MC is gonna walk away with glory and valor, and the author won't even talk about the aftermath of it.

[collapse]

i won't stop you from reading it. I just hate how some people could see war as a desirable thing, used lightly in novel like this, without consequences. <<less

This starts out as a regret story where the clueless love interest fails to recognize all the life-changing things that the MC has done for her and throws his love away for some narcissist. Then the MC gets back at her by deciding to stop hiding his power.

That's all well and good but the author clearly wants to write a standard Chinese fantasy about a wealthy MC with future knowledge. We get a couple moments of his ex regretting her choice but mostly it focuses on MC being stoic and... more>> impressing people with every little action he takes. Give an inspiring speech? Amazing! This man should be king! Buy a sword? Incredible!

It's the usual stuff you see in a mediocre Chinese novel. So if you want a story about a wealthy prince slapping faces with future knowledge, this is ok to read. Not good enough to recommend but not offensively bad or anything.

One of the other reviewers seems to have dropped this in a huff because the author mentioned war with barbarians. That's pretty normal for this genre and this novel does not delve into anything gory or realistic. I'm not going to say this deserves a particularly high rating but I would say that you should expect at least some level of military activity in a novel about a prince who was in love with a general. <<less
