Sheng MuMu was transmigrated into a novel.

While others transmigrate to become celebrities, she ends up becoming a stepmother to a 17-year-old young master of a prestigious family?!

She wants to escape! But wait, what’s this? Pretending to be his wife for a monthly allowance of 500,000 in pocket money that can be freely spent on her card? Suddenly she doesn’t mind so much!

Everyone guesses: “She’s just a stepmother, how much could he really care for her? President Qi just brought a woman home to take care of his son.”

On the day of the banquet, surrounded by the media, Sheng MuMu hooks her arm around the man’s neck and sweetly calls him: “Dear~”

The man’s eyes darken as he pulls her slender waist closer, naturally dispelling the rumors.

Then people say: “She’s just a brainless trophy wife, just a pretty face.”

Sheng MuMu: “You dare call this 700-scoring top-scoring beauty from the city just a trophy wife?”

She opens a flower shop, becoming an internet sensation with people lining up to take photos, earning pots full of money; she starts a brand, appearing on the cover of financial magazines’ annual rankings.

And after that…

Tsundere stepson: “Better than a real mother.”

Vicious mother-in-law: “Daughter-in-law, when are you taking me square dancing?”

Until one night, Sheng MuMu’s earlobes blushing as she pushes away the man pinning her against the wall.

“President Qi, our agreement is just a contract marriage. ”

The man’s eyes narrow as he loosens his tie and leans down:

“The agreement? I tore that up long ago.”

Sheng MuMu: “You…mmmph”

It started out really fun and entertaining. The romance was cute and the MC getting along with her stepson was also a fun read. However, when the MC and ML finally confirmed their feelings for each other, the story suddenly became boring.

A drama-free family-oriented slice of life story with some romance.

It is a story about our FL who was a a middle income hardworking lady in her ori world who transmigrated into a rich household. She is the contract wife of a bigshot CEO.

FL is very satisfied with the original contract that ensures she stays with the CEO aka ML till the death of his grandma as his grandmother was the one who matchmade them and he didn’t want to disappoint his grandmother. FL will then earn 500000yuan per month as... more>> per her contract.

FL is happy with that as she can now live a luxurious life. In her previous life she worked hard but she could never achieve this much luxury and now its so easy for her to earn money. So FL takes it as a job. She will be a good wife to ML without the s*x as he didn’t want that and also she will attempt to be a good mother to the stepson.

FL is very sincere in her emotions and she naturally wins over the heart of the ML and stepson, also the mother-in-law who initially disliked her as she thought FL was merely a golddigger. But once she saw FL’s sincerity she was also won over. Basically FL lived a carefree life and interacted with a lot of people and made new friends in this world.

It’s very drama-free as most obstacles are solved within a chapter or two. Some plot twists also occurred.

Basically a chill read.

Some fun stuffs I liked:

  • Cheerful smart IQ and EQ FL who isn’t boring.
  • ML also has an interesting personality. He is cold and indifferent initially but later opens up.
  • The stepson has one of the best fun personality in this story. He had a quiet childhood and is rebellious as he wants his father’s approval and well, he just admires his dad alot. Once FL is in his life, she opens up stepson’s heart too and makes him feel so loved. He is so cute!! With his lego obsession lol!
  • Fun relationship dynamics between Cheng Zhuo and Qiao Li.
  • Su Tingran finding a new dream after she left the s*umbag.
A nice read about family ties. <<less

Not gonna lie it's pretty generic, but the slowburn is decent. MC is loveable and ML isn't too bad either. They make a lovely couple. The story is a light-hearted slice of life where MC (and ML) kept (more often than not, unrealistically) winning without much drama. Minimal novelty here but didn't mean it wasn't enjoyable.

The part of the story where they slowly start to accept their feelings and opening up, ugh, It really made my heart flutter. They handled their emotions like an adult should, while being so sweet... more>> towards each other.

What I didn't like:

Spoiler

I didn't like the subplot that MC was a lost child of a rich family. I thought the story was off with a good start about one's worth as a woman and patriarchal bias in society. Her being the kidnapped (?) child of a powerful background kinda ruined it.

In later parts, it started to feel like it comes down to MC being exceptionally beautiful, professionally capable, and even from a good family background that she becomes undisputably truly worthy to stay by super OP ML's side. When in fact, she can just be herself and he likes her as it is.

Perhaps I'm a hopeless romantic but I think romance could just happen from companionship between parties involved in any shape and form. There shouldn't be a necessity to prove yourself in every single way to the world that you're worthy. I hope one day I'll stumble upon a novel that resonates with this line of thought.

THE TITLE IS VERY MISLEADING

This is NOT a novel about a woman who just goes around spending money. She doesn't even spend that much.

Summary: Sheng Mumu transmigrates into a novel as the rich CEO's stepmother. It's a minor role that dies off early, entirely wasting her circumstances. The original Sheng Mumu wanted to fall in love with her husband and usurp the family fortune by having a son of her own and kicking out her stepson. Sheng Mumu decides it's better to be a dutiful contractual wife/employee and put... more>> her focus on enjoying the family fortune rather than coveting it. In the process, she starts her own wildly successful business and wins the love of her new family members, including her handsome husband!

Warnings: Infidelity (not between main couple), violence towards women (two instances by the same person, not ML)

ABOUT THE STEPSON: It doesn't really bother me if ML had a relationship before but the spoiler below has details about the situation.

Layers of spoilers:

Layer 1:
Spoiler

ML did not have stepson through a traditional man and wife process.

Layer 2:
Spoiler

ML is NOT the stepson's bio father.

Layer 3:
Spoiler

ML is stepson's uncle.

Setting:

Modern times Beijing. MC marries into a nouveau riche, but ultra rich, family. MC is a contract wife married to keep elders in the family happy. MC starts changing things from the beginning so the novel setting, where her stepson is the rich CEO, has little effect on her or the people around her. Even better, the novel settings only seem to kick in when it comes to her stepson and his future FL. What I mean by that is that they keep running into each other and it's adorable.

MC:

MC is pretty great. She's not naive or clueless like a lot of silly and sweet heroines but she's also not some sort of elite ultra special and dramatic genius. MC is described as being very vivacious and friendly, with a strong sense of responsibility and a go-getter attitude. She's got great emotional intelligence and literally defuses drama by being a bubbly and tactful positivity bomb.

I really liked how independent she is. MC decides to start a business and does a really good job of it. It's not just finding a professional manager and/or relying on her husband; she actually works hard to grow her company and is proactive about bettering herself. By the point where things come to ahead between MC and ML with regards to their relationship, she could theoretically support herself quite well without him and without relying on him.

MC's platonic relationships are super drama free and easy. She's hard to dislike and is a straightforward person, meaning that she doesn't get involved in ten to twenty layers of scheming. She's also a fairly responsible parent/guardian to her almost full-grown stepson. In many ways, she's a better parent than the ML, her husband.

MC's relationship with ML is pretty good too. From the beginning, he notices and acknowledges the change in her and how much he likes her new personality. They are very cute.

ML:

I really like ML, Qin Mo. He is the stereotypical CEO-character, but more realistic and less cringe than most. He's very mature and steady which pairs well with MC's lively and outgoing personality. He also respects her from the start. When she decides to start a business, he supports her and believes in her. When she runs into trouble at one point, he doesn't jump in on her behalf but trusts her to decide what to do next, although he's ready to jump in if she needs him. He actively takes steps to get rid of the one annoying female side character that appears and is reasonable about the whole process too. He also makes sure to clear up any misunderstandings and communicates well with his partner. Although he's not as great at parenting, he willingly goes along with and works hard at anything she tells him to improve.

Other Characters:

There's a lot of lovely and sweet characters in this novel, from her MIL, and Grand MIL, to her friends, to the side couple, etc.

My favorite has to be the stepson though. He's very adorable and obedient. When have you seen a seventeen year old "bad boy future CEO" character whose obsession is building Legos? Super tsundere but he idolizes his father and thus tries to be a mature CEO type like him, but his true character comes out with his friends, future FL, and with MC, who steps in to her role as his mother. <<less

I love this novel. Thank you for the team who translated this story.

FL character is not boring, and not over Mary Sue. She play her role as a step mom really well.

ML is quiet but not boring. I'm still in chapter 61 so I couldn't say much.

Stepson is not annoying. He just want attention from his father.

Check out this novel if you're looking for soap-drama free story.

So good. It's your typical transmigration story that is really well written. The romance was alow but in a good way that did not feel forced and there were no parts where I was thinking "what the he'll is happening? ㅡ.ㅡ " Also the intimacy scenes did not feel forced or bad (in chinese novels it often feels like the FL is not willing). The ending was really good and was not hurried, which I feel is also rare with these kind of stories. Overall a really good read,... more>> definitely recommend if you want something lighthearted and fun! <<less

Raiding a 17 year old son? Falling in love with a contract husband? This is one full of cliches, and served as a good pastime.

I liked all the characters and story, unique premise with teenager instant son, and a happy loving family. The translation was also good. However, I will not give this more than 3 stars in any case. First off, comparing with other stories that have a similar setting, this one really fails to impress, and the story is exceptionally 2 dimensional. It felt like I was reading... more>> a 2nd rate fanfic of some sort. At one point the story was solely focused on the se***l tension between the 2 protagonists and this was dragged out for many chapters. There really was no balance, and it felt more like storytelling as you go, so there was not much of a storyline either.

I wouldn't discourage people from reading this, but do go in with low expectations. It might be it for you if you are looking for a transmigration/ instant family trope to satisfy cravings, but there is not much about the transmigration either. <<less

The biggest flaw is it kinda felt like the story was supposed to end like 60 chapters earlier and everything that comes after it is just side stories that does nothing to the story. Which is annoying because there's other missing parts the author could've written about instead to up their word-count.

Spoiler

Give grandma her grand (grand?) child! She's a freaking 90 (?) year old who's had a brain tumor for gods sake, hurry up and push one out you lazy bum! Grandma's only got a few years left in her and a grandchild is all she's asked for!

[collapse]

Even then, before that it felt like there was no real overarching story-line except their relationship and son. The romance itself was decent, but the things going on around it just... there's hardly any build-up or follow-up to anything. Things just happens as if it's a weekly tv-show. Like when they find out who the "villain" is and then in a few sentences that entire plot is solved never to be heard from again. Almost no overlap between characters, when one characters story-line is over we barely hear from them again. Maybe a grumpy stare at some party from one of them or part of the girls playing mahjong if they're lucky.

It wasn't exactly terrible and would've almost had a 3/5 if it wasn't for the fact that a large section was just stalling. So 2/5. <<less

I like the characters. The main cast is fun, and the villains leave quickly. Pacing is a bit slow, but rarely feels stagnant. I appreciate that even without romantic progress there's still familial progress.

My only complaint is that the MC's flower business has really s*upid gimmicks. I'm not even gonna spoiler tag them, because they don't matter to the plot, I just think they're ridiculous. The first one was a daily flower delivery service with a 1% chance of getting free flowers for life. Like, every customer is gonna get... more>> 3 per year, right? Unsustainable. The second one was a "one flower, one lifetime" service, where each customer can only buy a single flower in their life. Like, repeat customers are the bread and butter of business, how can you build brand loyalty if they literally can't come back? <<less

The kind of novel that you can pause and pick up at any time.

Romance is a slow burn and the development of the family relationships is also relaxed, with conflicts generally making sense and the resolutions are acceptable. As a bonus, it’s really well translated and the translator’s website is one of the best free ones out there.

It was a cute love story. Simple and easy. The translation was great. And the author answered some questions at the end. I'm satisfied.

Spoiler

I can't believe this but I was watching mini dramas and found an adaptation of this story.

This story was a typical transmigration story that I usually enjoy the most. The plot of this novel wasn't something new though but it's quite refreshing to have a 17yo as a step-son instead of the usual mini-adult toodler. The dynamic between MC and her step-son was really amusing. They acted more like best friends rather than mother and son but there's no doubt that they really cared and loved each others.

I also love how natural the progression of MC and ML's relationship was. When ML realized his feeling to... more>> MC, he took his time to properly woo her and didn't cross the line before MC accepted him. He also asked her consent before making an intimate gesture. MC, in return, also tried her best to surprise ML so they both really tried hard to cherish each others.

However, considering the length of the novel, I think their progress was a bit too slow. Inevitably, the story became a bit boring over times.

Spoiler

They only got together at around chapter 170++ which was more than half of the novel.

Despite of that, I still find the story quite enjoyable to read <<less

Really sweet and well done novel - likeable fleshed out characters with some interesting emotional plotlines. But as another reviewer said, around the 180 mark where the characters have established their feelings for each other and everything is cruisy, it feels like an extended epilogue. I feel happy dropping the novel here since all loose ends are tied but and the characters are happy. This shouldn’t deter you from reading as a I had a good experience regardless!

Cute BUT cliche transmigration story of Stepmother.

I came for the family love and the relationship between MC and her teen son. Very similar to another story here the difference is that MC opened up a convenience store and this one opened up a flower shop.

Is it the greatest story? No. But if you want something slow and fluffy cantered around family then thus might be the one for you.

I will say my one frustration was how SLOW the burn is for the MC and ML. I was like girl stop... more>> being a prude and jump his bones but the MC took her sweet time lol.

A good story to pass the time but not one to be remembered or reread. <<less

Yet another typical novel where the FL is the most beautiful, her ML is the richest, handsomest and most powerful, and a whole bunch of side characters whose lives are made better by the FL. There were some interesting parts, but it got boring after a while.

I really enjoyed this one. The FL is a super extrovert with an offbeat sense of humor, the ML ends up as a doting husband with a very dry, wicked sense of humor. They are a good match, and I appreciate that it mentions in various ways her belief in an equal relationship (and dissatisfaction with many traditions), and that she carries out her ideals without hitting everyone over the head with it. The other female characters aren’t all green tea b*tches, they are strong in their own right, and... more>> support each other even through rough times.

Her relationship with her stepson is hilarious, as he is often pranked by her, but it helps him develop a more open personality. It’s nice that there are no serious antagonists in this - it’s more a slice of life. Each potential stumbling block is reasonable and ends up liking and supporting FL and ML.

Translation is decent, though there are a few places where names and pronouns obviously got switched, and hints of MTL oddities in the word choices. This isn't an exciting novel, but I recommend if you like the process more than pure romance. <<less
