Distance is a social platform that (just like other social platforms) can display the distance between parties. Ting Shuang had chosen someone that was 287 kilometres away from him, thinking that it was very safe. After all, when there’s more than two hundred kilometres between them, they wouldn’t awkwardly chance upon each other in real life, right!

Unexpectedly… The next night, 287 kilometres suddenly became 4.8 kilometres???

And even more unexpectedly… In the afternoon of the third day, 4.8 kilometres suddenly became 3 metres???

3 metres?????

Metres?????

I’m having a lesson right now, doesn’t 3 meters mean that the person I was flirting with is in the classroom right now?

I like the perspective and thoughts I encountered when I read about that chapter where they went to the cemetery to talk about aging and death.

Let me share this bit with you.

Spoiler

Ting Shuang stopped to look at the words on a tombstone. 1911-1951, a man named Günter had been sleeping here for 68 years.

Being from an older time, the epitaph was written in Gothic, and was difficult to decipher. Ting Shuang looked at it for a long time before trying to translate the sentence, "He's lived forty... precipitous... extraordinary years."

"Prosperous." Bai Changyi translated it concisely, "He had forty prosperous years to call his own."

"He'd owned forty prosperous years." Ting Shuang slowly and softly recited the sentence several times, and was suddenly touched by this sentence, touched by the use of the word 'own.'

He didn't know if this man named Günter had thought about what his life after fifty would be like when he was young, or whether he'd thought about how to spend the rest of his life.

But people didn't really have a future, nor a so-called 'rest of their lives.' 'The rest of our lives' was just a vision, just a figment of one's imagination. The only thing that truly belonged to you was the years you'd lived, and the present moment.

Thing Shuang stood quietly in front of the tombstone, his chest suddenly feeling lighter.

The breeze blew gently by, on this clear autumn day.

"Should we move on?" Ting Shuang asked.

"Mm." Bai Changyi answered, and the two walked forward side by side.

After taking a few steps, Bai Changyi said, "If I die tomorrow, my epitaph can have this written on it---"

"He'd owned thirty-six prosperous years, and a young lover named Ting Shuang." The tone he used was so natural and ordinary, that Ting Shuang did not feel opposed to it at all.

"It's not scary, right?"

...I am scared of what happens when I die because I don't know what's waiting for me beyong. Like Ting Shuang, I'm scared of the unknown. And I think there's comfort in reading those words, of being in the moment, of living in the now. While reading, Hozier's 'In a Week' and Reese Lansangan's 'When it happens' keeps on playing in my mind, especially the former. I just feel that the song fits the scene well, even if they have an age gap and no one necessarily knows when the two of them will die, or who goes first.

Sorry for the rambling, I just really like the idea of a couple being together even in death (like the Lovers of Hasanlu or the Lovers of Modena). Death is scary, but it can also be something gentle and cathartic.

We lay here for years or for hours

Your hand in my hand

So still and discreet

So long we become the flowers

We'd feed well the land

And worry the sheep...

Well... Sorry I got outof topic, haha. I must say, I accidentally found this while browsing the 'Early Romance' tag but I'm glad I found this. Thank you for the author and translator for the hard work, I enjoyed savoring the words. It's not the best, but it is my cup of tea. <<less

No angst and no misunderstandings!

The mature tag stands for actually mature and not mut mut!

It was a very fast reading, they got together early which is great, because I was tired of waiting for the main couple get together after 100 chapters.

... more>> MC is 24 and ML is 36, both are adults, non of them are virg*ns and have past relationships. ML is very level headed, patient and mature he talks when there's a problem and stimulates the MC to also communicate.

This is a light reading, there were moments when a couldn't stop my self from laughing out loud, but is also one of the few danmei novels I read that brings up questions about the difference in age between the couple. The feelings about the difference in age are beautifully represented in a song the MC sang when traveling with the ML (the MC shed tears and I shed tears too).

Again, this is a light funny reading, but I think some feelings and relationships are fairly realistically portrayed. <<less

Totall. Must. Read.

thank you translator for picking this up💖

I love the dynamic of their relationship. I love the MC and ML

I love how mature the ML is and how patient he is.

I love how immature and vulnerable the MC is. Independent and dependent at the same time.

Learning, Growing together and giving us lots of Dog food! I just love the lessons that I learned in this novel and how relatable some of the characters are.

Totally worth the read

Its really beautiful. I can reread this again when Im tired of melodrama and childish novels. This novel is a simple slice of life about a young student trying to navigate the current moment he is in.

I love this "short" story, its not a perfect world and its nice, sometimes something so idealistic and pretty could be overwhelming for me.

There is an age gap in the relationship but this novel handle it so good, this is a relationship with understanding, support, care and no unnecessary possessiveness that I learned to... more>> tolerate but this story reminded me that isn't healthy.

I was suprised cause I didnt have any expectations to this story but this moved me and Bai Changyis actions and love to Ting Shuang is so beautiful.

There werent any typical plots and everything was a breath of fresh air.

The plot was sweet funny and really fills up my heart. A few tense chapters especially when its about family but all in all everything was tied up... I need to find another adjective... beautifully, I was so content as well as wanting more.

Character growth. A plus in my tally. Complex relationships. Funny meet cute and anecdotes. Sexy times.

Also I love that there isn't a rich boss to save the day with throwing money at every problem.

Sigh. Its really good. <<less

It hurts my heart to see negative reviews of this gold of a novel. This is the best among all of the modern fluffy danmeis I've ever read!!! DEFINITELY A GOLD (so rare). Everything was so hilarious and sweet. I can't get enough of it 😭♥️. I do think that the author is very very mature and smart. I even turned Bai's lines into quotations for educational purposes. This was never boring for me. It was very much interesting. Hope I could read more novels like this. 100/100

It's amazing.

Actually I had started this book a year ago but stopped a few chapters in due to bad reviews, poor ratings and being uncompleted but I picked it up again yesterday and it's actually quite good, short too and completely translated so you can binge read.

It's funny too, so you laugh alot and there's a bit of smut too so that's pretty fresh.

All in all it was a great read, I'm sad I'm done now but I think I'll always fondly remember Bai laoban and ting.

Give it a go!

SUCH A MASTERPIECE!!!!

I have no words to describe how much I love these 2 characters, wish they are real in this world.

The story starts with the professor and student who just ended their past relationships, happens to meet each other on a social platform, and then WOOSH their dynamic is so fast fast. But they are perfect for each other. I guess for both of them it's love at first sight at some point. Bai Changyi is one of the best ML I have ever seen. He is older than... more>> Ting Shuang by 12 years, so he is so mature and he is so doting on his young lover. They go through problems like age difference, family business problems and but their relationship will so stable as Mount Tai.

It's not only a fluffy BL but I have deeper conversations on life, death, growing up and growing together. <<less

I binged this in 2 days when I was supposed to study :') but it was WORTH IT!!!!

I think Authors should make more casual dating into Love type novels as they seem so fresh and good now. This was a totally romance based novel with little work and uni related ideologies by the characters mixed in and with a little dog blood drama at the end.

A lot of people may find the MC annoying or embarrassing but no, for me Ting Shuang was really one of the most relatable and... more>> realistic MC i've ever read in BLs. He had a bad temper and threw tantrums but he was aware of it and just couldn't help it even if he knew that they made him unlikable. And exactly due to this, he had low self esteem and insecurity. This all felt so relatable (atleast for me) and I'm glad the ML accepted all his tempers and tried to help him get his confidence because I loved that! Ting Shuang had such a realistic thinking regarding everything and I liked how he chose his major and kept doing it just because of the flow and by being realistic even tho he wasn't keen on it. He knew that only a few people got to do what they wanted (and I mean come on was he wrong) but as realistic as he was, I loved how he believed and supported MLs ideals and never went against him and supported him.

The ML is like perfect example of an ideal boyfriend. We all need a Bai Changyi in our lives, don't we? I liked how he searched and learned about things he didn't know. Always asked the MC for his reasons of behaviour and so. And was extremely GENTLE AND UNDERSTANDING WHILE BEING DOTING TOWARDS THE MC. WE STAN THAT!!!

The plot was mostly romance based with a few of MC's and ML's ideologies mixed in and I really liked both of them and they had their own points.I like romance based novels that focus on relationship growth so much and it was definitely one of them. (Seriously Authors should write more like this) There was a little family drama at the end but as a whole it was a romantic/cute/hot and really heart warming short love story!

I loved how the author handled the age gap issue and parents accepting their sexuality issue. It was done really so well that I really have to hand it to the author for that! I loveeee novels with good writing and this was absolutely one of them.I was on the verge of tears many times reading it because of the good writing and amazing dialogues. The philosophies or should I say opinions.. Of both leads were written really well that it always made sense while reading it that why they thought so! Though it was short, it was a meaningful read!

10/10 I recommend you to give this a try! Its really short and really worth your time! <<less

I enjoyed it very much and ended it in one sitting. That's how good it was (for me). The hilarious bits of the story would make you laugh so much, while the serious parts would make you contemplate about life. I'm envious of what they have but also admired how healthy their relationship is. Ting's character development was amazing, and although Changyi's character was the same throughout the story, you could still see how Ting's presence made his life better. I felt that Changyi's maturity influenced Ting a lot, and... more>> they make up for each other's shortcomings. Their chemistry is great and I would definitely recommend this to my friends who read BL. Sigh, another BL novel affected my views in finding a partner.

The translation was beautifully done and I can't thank them enough for picking it up. <<less

Intially b4 reading the novel I thought it would be same old plot where younger chases the older while being ignored. But it turned out to be good read. I couldn't stop reading it.

What I liked was the maturity and the level headedness portrayed.

Overall a good read. Recommended for those who like a mature characters and plot

Frankly an amazing read. I got a vibe of coming-of-age from this, and the character depth is really high. Although, the plot kinda jumped around a bit.

I think if anyone read ‘Tattoo’ then you may like ‘Your Distance’ too.

I really sympathize with the MC about university problems. Goddamn.

In summary, give it a try!

This is a story where the two people gradually develop an understanding and love between themselves and their lives as well as having too complicated family problems.

Spoiler

I shed lots of tears when I found out about MC's backstory. He felt left out and alienated due to his divorced parents having their own families. I feel that its worst for MC and his mom. Cause its not his mom, when they were eating together, she didn't tell her daughter that she is with her son. I felt that she didn't want to include MC in her new life. I didn't like her much even though she wasn't against MC and ML, I feel its cause she has the 'not my child, so not my problem' kind of mindset due to how little she met and raised MC. It's better to say she is more of an egg donor compared to the father even though he was horrible also.

This is a MUST read for all the students most especially for those who are still having uncertainties when it comes to choosing what course to take.

There's a lot of wisdom and thought-provoking things that the professor, Bai Changyi imparted in this novel may it be about studying or love. You will learn and realised things and made you think twice about your life's decisions. You may or may not agree but in the end, he indeed made a lot of good points.

Ting Shuang although at first he's very immature... more>> and always throwing temper tantrums, doesn't irritate me at all, probably because we share the same personality, so I kinda understand where he's coming from. Lol. I like his journey to maturity, all thanks to the ever loving professor because of his guidance and patience when it comes to handling things. Salute to Bai Changyi or anyone who can handle people with this kind of temper tantrums. Mad respect!

Overall, there's a bit of everything in this novel. Fun, fluff, second hand embarrassment, a little misunderstandings, and a little bit of angst. A good read and higly recommended. <<less

It was so good, it almost wasn’t enough. I completely relate to Ting Shuang, in that I would also have been head over heels in love with Bai Changyi - a cool, calm, composed, and sexy intellectual who would not only love you wholeheartedly but would also make sure you grow to make the most of your life.

I’m also still waiting for those three extras. I hope I’ll be able to read more lovey-dicey scenes of them together with less than half a meter distance since they pretty much spent... more>> most of the last ten chapters in a long distance relationship. <<less

Wow! It's so wholesome! A romance between a university student-ish (age 24+) and a university professor (age 34+)

Now this is what a mature ML will be! No face slapping, just pure wholesome love between the two flirty males. I cackle at every chapter. 5 stars!

Edit: WHAT A GREAT CHARACTER GROWTH! Ting and Bai Changyi are so well match heart heart love love

Loves the relationship between ML and MC, they talked their problems out and it's so cute.

They are proof that communication is key and in a relationship it's push/pull and give/take, and also that it requires patience, adaptations, trust, and bond

Spoiler

1. They way the ML walks through the problem out with MC is really amazing, they broke down the argument into pieces to find the faults and how to fix it

2. They don't force each others habits on each other and learned to adapt

3. The ML spoils the MC by doing simple little things such as listening to the MC whenever he countered a problem and helping him solve it, or giving everyone notes just so the MC doesn't feel guilty of using him to pass the class (which he isnt) or whenever he cooks the Mc's favorite foods and when he remembers the simiest or little things about the MC

4. The way they handle the 12 years age gaps and how they talk about death is top tier

Good novel.

Here the ML is older than the MC by 12 or 14 years (I forgot). So the main focus of the novel here is the 'age gap' between the couple (the age problem which btw both of them don't mind but MC's father does)

The ML is the mature one who takes the responsibility of guiding the MC. The couple communicates very well about their principles, age issues.

... more>> Comedy : MC is good at digging his own pit. Comedy in the beginning. Later it's serious.

Romance : mature and healthy relationship

Smex scenes : Explicit but not detailed; both willing; none of them is passive

I love this story and the beautiful phrases about life. I love Bai Chang Yi & Ting Shuang. I'm not good at reviewing stories, especially because my English is super bad, but feel I should write one for this story. I even following the manhua now, eventho I can't read Chinese at all.

For the first half of the story, I'm abandon this novel for a few month and then decide to read a chapter/week, not because it's bad... but because I don't want it to ending too soon..... well, that's... more>> how much I love this novel. <<less

If you’re looking for something light, sweet, and easy to fall into—a low-stakes romance with heart—this book does the job. It’s cute, cozy, and occasionally cringe in the best way. Think soft smiles, playful banter, and just enough secondhand embarrassment to keep things entertaining.

I’ll admit, though, I almost gave up on it early. The beginning of their relationship felt rushed. One date, a snap decision to go exclusive, and suddenly they’re living together before the halfway mark. There’s an age gap, a professor-student dynamic, and almost no friction over any... more>> of it. It felt a little too convenient, like the setup skipped all the emotional groundwork. I wanted more tension, maybe more buildup. Something to make the payoff feel earned

But I’m glad I stuck with it. Around the midway point, I realized this was exactly what the author intended. Rather than focusing on the chase or the pining, the story is more about what comes after: the simple, quiet joy of being together. It’s about domestic routines, small gestures, and those little moments of care that gradually deepen into something real.

I really liked the dynamic between the leads. The ML is super patient, always showing soft, steady affection. I love that he's strict and cold with everyone except the MC. MC can be a little bratty at times, but it’s clear he really cares about him. You can tell he puts in the effort to make the ML happy. Their relationship is sweet, funny, and full of warmth. It’s a pairing that just works—low on angst, light on drama, and filled with soft moments.

All in all, this was a fun and unexpectedly touching read. If you’re in the mood for a feel-good story about two people growing together and finding joy in each other’s company, with plenty of fluff and just enough chaos to keep things lively, this one’s a solid pick. <<less
