4 stars: Comedy, drama, romance, entertainment world, psychological, yaoi

Short, sweet read with flirty, black belly ML and MC with ‘issues’ that get lightly explored. Comedy of misunderstandings which never got too annoying as you get to know both characters. Side characters make the story more entertaining but wish it was longer to explore the world in more depth. Reread.

I rlly liked it. I was feeling something fluffy not too boring and well paced.

I love the love of all the characters for the MC. Sometimes how the depression and trauma in the novel was depicted was a bit off. But what do I know.

Gu wei's mother was being foreshadowed too much or maybe even his whole past. Maybe thats good tho makes it less angsty.

I don't quite like the way they described the MC sometimes. It gave me a feeling that he was fragile and doesn't have his own opinion. I don't quite like how innocent he was made out to be.

But all in all these aspects weren't taken really far so it was still a very wholesome and funny story.

Cute story, don't expect much twist and no angst. The story moves quickly so it doesn't get boring.

CP:

7/10 for power balance, affinity, and healthy relationship. I liked it when the GW started to work harder to get on equal ground with ML, since, from a financial standpoint, he's always had the possibility to do so, just needed a bit more of training and effort put in. I was disappointed to see that there was disproportionate character growth business-wise than romance-wise. The GW adopts a more mature mindset in regard to his work which is very satisfying to read, but his attitude in romance remains pretty much the... more>> same through 2-ish years long time period that the novel is set in. It felt flat, sloppy, imbalanced, and considering that the GW's role in the relationship is to the pure childish bride, it also felt a bit cringey. To put it into perspective, at the end of this novel GW is 19 and like this, while at the beginning of FOG, Evil is the same age and already has a more stable attitude about his feelings than GW at the END of his story. You can say that GW's feelings have been hindered by depression and anxiety, but there's no textual evidence of this. It's like GW, as a person who feels stuff other insomnia and the will to dance, is born the moment he meets ML. It's sloppy characterisation.

Most of all in GW's characterisation there's something that irked me cause it's inconsistent. GW's attitude to become equal, business-wise, to ML gets tr*shed when ML, ML's family and friends help GW get to the top of the celeb ranking. That was a WTF moment for me. I figured the GW would put a stop to that immediately and say something like "don't do this. I want to work towards this goal through my own efforts alone." Even if realistically everyone gets favours from whoever they can to rank up, it would have been consistent with GW's characterisation to say something in defence of his own capabilities. But nope, he just accepts it. Like,... WTF man.

Knives:

5/10 Disappointing! I saw the depression tag and thought nice! Some real heavy angst is coming, I love angst before a good happy ending, makes the healing and catharsis that much sweeter. But the big reveal towards the end was poorly written imo. So disappointing because there was potential, but it wasn't executed well in the end.

Smut:

3/10

This is one of the authors who ab*ses teasing and innuendo remarks, then cuts off smut with the good old "a long while later." I don't demand much, I get the restrictions of censorship, but the author can choose to go the sensual instead of the s*xual route, like Musuli habitually does, but this author cut to the next scene entirely. There are a couple of moment that I considered sensual enough, but still insufficient to get passing grade imo.

Plot:

4/10

Certainly not at the levels of FOG or I Can Do It, but not as bland/thin as PUBG Romance or Sockpuppet Accounts. Plot-wise, it's 70% social media talk about entertainment business, 20% silly superficial misunderstandings that get resolved fairly quickly, and 10% rise to fame plot trope. I get it that entertainment business stories need a socmed aspect, but this is not a purely socmed story so there needs to be a balance imo. The socmed part here was so disproportionate it dragged the whole novel quality-wise. <<less

3 days after reading this novel I just forgot what the plot is. Someone help 😭 I know that this novel was fluffy and cute when I read it but I cannot, for the life of me remember a single scene. Maybe because it was kinda boring??? Idk

Its a good fluffy story. At 1st I kind of dislike MC because he gives me the vibe of a white lotus, but as the story progress his action become much cuter

There's no deep drama, the ML fall in love with MC pretty quick in my opinion. I like how he is gentle and not forceful like a lot of ML. He likes to tease MC. But he knows when to stop.

I enjoyed this story more than the sequel but both are very good reads, in my opinion. This story has more depth on it compared to the sequel but both have different charms that depends on the mood and mindset of the readers.

. Other than that, it was a truly well written story. The translation is also excellent. It feels more like a proper novel than an awkward translation (though there are still translator notes for any word-play for folks who like that). Overall, it was a satisfying and delightful read.

A really quick, easy read - breezed through it in like a day. The characters are cute and fun with clear personalities.

The misunderstandings are funny, no one gets hurt by them and they're resolved in a timely manner.

Some reviews are saying that the ML is bad and harasses the MC but that's not true:

It's clear from the MC's response that he's enjoying it and whenever he really says to stop or shows that they're moving too fast/doesn't want something then the ML listens.

The first half of the novel was still good and funny, but the latter part became boring and annoying, especially the fans. Also, what's good about Jiang Ying and Sunny? They're just there to add to the fire. I don't find their characters interesting at all.

I'm supposed to finish reading this, but fans' comments almost filled half of the story. MC and ML's shippers were all demanding, which really annoys me. They say to keep a low profile but still asking MC about their relationship every time he was live-streaming... more>> or on Weibo. They just made MC gets uncomfortable.

I know ML is black-bellied but some reviews say he respects MC. Like hello? Did we really read the same novel? It's clear that ML always harassed MC sexually, and MC clearly doesn't want it. ML is so reckless that even though they're filming, he still finds a time to bully our MC. Though not in front of the camera. Why not just rent a room?

I only like MC and his group members. But sometimes I hate MC for quickly giving in to ML's teasing and bullying. Where could I find a protagonist with good resistance? I only find one so far.

And some of his controversies were no big deal at all, but the story makes it a big deal. Then, the variety show only released episodes, like, once a month? Is there something like that or I'm just ignorant?

But then the first half of the novel was still a good read. The translations are excellent too.

I want to read the sequel at first but Jiang Ying was not interesting so I'll just drop this.

These days, finding a wonderful novel was getting hard. QAQ I just wasted my time here. <<less

So cute!!!

This book honestly describe a lot of fan culture really nicely and show us that not all celebs that we worship are worthy. Some aspects of the story may be a tat-bit cliche but it’s done just enough to keep the story’s elements flowing. Instead of focusing on those, I would like you to take notes of the fan culture in this story instead. Edible Crab Jiejie was my favorite little hedgehog 😆. Really just fcking cute, best if you’re lookin for fluff and dog food. Slight angst but so long as you keep a fan mentality of “don’t trust anything and only trust what you know for sure” you won’t be that affected by the angst

only thing I dislike is that I wish they would’ve done more variety shows, maybe I’ve just seen to many entertainment industry novels about movies and have been deprived of too many variety shows so when they had some I was hooked and essentially failed

Pros :

I like how there's an edge to the MC. He have a nice back story and I like how author made MC relationship with his parents very realistic.

when it was revealed that the reason MC hated dog because MC hated his own dad for being such an irresponsible father. Most novels especially the light read one would just turn it into a joke.

ML supported MC so MC have some time to get used to ML and ML helped MC got professional help. Gosh I rarely read a novel where they actually go to a professional.

It's nice how the MC nemesis, who is also ML's brother, isn't a brain dead idiot.

Cons :

The villain is meh. Not much backstory. It's a light read but with more spice. Quite nice to read when you have some free time.

cute and nice read. Not too long not too short. Just the right length. Dont be deterred by some of the bad comments because I think in the end its a good read. The romance and plot are not bad. Interesting characters. ML is the protective yet a little black bellied type whereas the MC is a v honest and GOOD boy! I liked the story, but not the romance so much. The gong-shou dynamic is extremely stereotypical. It's a shame, because otherwise the story is quite enjoyable.

Pros:

The entertainment industry is well written, with lots of social media. It almost feels a little meta with all the shipping included in-story.. I enjoyed the fandom aspects though. Subjectively I found it funny. MC is hilariously dumb. Misunderstandings don't drag on, and overall pacing is good. Backstory is mostly resolved nicely. Supporting characters are a highlight.

this was very nice!! very cute!! there's plenty of moments since the start where I smiled and screamed at the screen because of how sweet they are!

Romance is the plot, so if you're looking for sickeningly sweet romance as the main component you might like this! I personally like the MC and the main CP - I think the ML is a pe*vert and everything he says is a pick-up line/flirtatious (which by the end - can be a little boring) and the MC is very obedient, completely like a... more>> fool. Definitely a white-lotus, and one of those kind of like -- White Sheep-type, Foolishly Good and 'Prey' like shou. I can see if it rubs people the wrong way but honestly I think together their chemistry is very very compelling and strong!

The story itself... well its a very smooth road. Don't pay too much attention to loop holes and how credible things are, this is a feel-good novel where you can take alot of things for granted. There's a wide parameter to just lie back and enjoy their dynamic, you don't have to think too much. <<less
