Wataru Sajou , who is deeply in love with his beautiful classmate Aika Natsukawa, is continuing to approach her without getting discouraged while having dreams about their mutual love.

However one day he woke up thinking,

“I am not really fit to be together with someone as good as her, huh…”

Upon realizing this, Wataru started keeping an appropriate distance towards her, much to Aika’s surprise.

“Could it be that he hates me now…?”

Did his intentions slip by her because she was getting impatient after arriving at the wrong conclusion!?

This is the start of a romcom revolving around two people who just cant get their feelings across and both think their love is unrequited!

I read ahead in the raws to get a sense of the story and damn is this ever a slow burn. I love it but I need more faster. Too much character growth and not enough smooching is not a complaint I ever thought I'd have.

I'd ignore any reviews from before at least chapter 30. Hell the plot has barely even kicked off by that point.

A confusing mess, the plot doesn't commit to anything. The love interest is a tsundere one that doesn't really have any cute qualities that help her become likable. The MC is a spineless simp, who after being hit in the head... changes? I still don't understand how he changed it's like a fictitious change the author wrote in for the plot. His memory is fine, his emotions are fine, he still likes her, like wtf? It's confusing as hell, he just doesn't actively pursue her anymore and now she actively... more>> pursues him instead in an abusive tsundere way. How is this an enjoyable read and how did this even win any awards? are the tags legit? <<less

TLDR: A heartbreaking story about a teenage boy who got broken, it's really confusing until chapter 20.

So, the tags are kind of misleading.

So far no real Romance or Heartwarming moments occurred, and unreliabile narrator could be added.

The story stars when the MC gets 'broken'. He has been pursuing the FL for 2 years now, with her always rejecting him. He was also neglected by his family in terms of his worth. So finally he stopped caring. He looked at himslef in the mirror and realized that for the last 2... more>> years, he has been only focusing on the FL.

So from this point on, he tries to play the part of an average student who is admiring his idol from afar (the FL).

This confuses the FL as she got used to him always praising her and being around her. She doesn't really know what kind of feeling she has for him. She acts like an 'S' towards him and thinks MC should be happy with their previous arrangement.

She is most of the time berating him or belittling him.

Example, from when a group of classmates were going to FL house and MC was asked if he wanted to come (by a friend).;

"Hmm... ! I can't let my sister get close to someone like 'you'! I can't let bad influence come near to Airi !!"

When we do get FL POV, she doesn't seem to like MC at all from the readers perspective. Small spoiler of how FL thinks talking to a classmate:

Well, it's better not to have a rebellious period. Sasaki-kun is handsome, so I understand why his younger sister loves him so much. Even me, I feel like I might want such an older brother too..... Wataru? Hmm... No way.

Honestly it took till this chapter for me to actually understand what's happening. The first 20 chapters are hard to understand and the attempted humor falls flat. I think the author didn't really know what kind of direction he wanted to go towards <<less

For all intents and purposes, this story is quite mediocre. I love the premise of it but the execution is pretty bad. The characters doesn't really feel like they have a purpose or sth along that line. 35 chapters have passed and we still have no idea where the author is trying to take this story which is a big no-no for me when it comes to a web novel.

Anyways, I hope it gets better in the future.

3-star for now.

Story is really interesting, a rare concept where the tsundere suddenly loses the person pursuing them. I like these types of stories because it forces real character development where they can't just slap them and tell them to f*ck off like normal, but instead if they truly love the MC pursue him themselves.

Unfortunately there's not much out so far and the plot is pretty generic, albeit decently executed. It might change in the future though, so I'll probably go back and update it then.

This might become deserving of the "Award Winning" tag in the future (as in later chapters) but as of ch 10, its more likely because the Japs really love Tsunderes for some reason.

The confusing mess part is because the translation (by Kinokura rn) is mediocre.

It had potential, the story of a young man realizing his mistakes of love bombarding an the consequences it has on himself and the girl? sounds great! a story of growing and allowing oneself to forgive and be forgiven, rtealizing how a toxic home upbringing ant its results, and trying to move pass that? I say it again, it sounds good.

but the reality? this story fails, quite miserably, any grow on the MC doesnt stay, instead he is just a husk of a simp that allows the HORRIBLE (my god... more>> I read a bad tsundere but this one takes the prize) girl to walk all over him, without any drop of self respect or care, god it truly makes me mad, as it had a good idea, but a poor execution, except one or two scenes; personally the scene of the cup of water analogy was the best part of this story, only because it was creative.

a self deprecatting man, posibble depressive thanks to his mother and sister, who BOTH are terrible people, (the sister can go stick her head up her mother ass) at the beggining his grow is interesting, but it quickly returns to the status quo of allowing the annoying female lead to do as she wishes

Female lead (God worst part)

She is one dimensional as a piece of wood, her only characteristic is the amount of selfdoubts and tsun tsun tsun part toward the MC, ever heard the words of milhouse from the simpsons:

"... you don't want me to be with you; you dont want me to be with someone else. How miserable do I ahve to be before you are happy?..."

it applies to her, she only wants the MC for herself, even if she makes him miserable, DOESN'T GROW.

Sister/mother

god awful family members, makes my blood boils at how they treat MC, the sister hastn treat him with kindness to the point that the payback from MC is probably her best moment, but is cut short by that awful female lead, mother? as present as a ghost

Had enough of masochistic beta MC with brain problems getting humiliated every turn in the name of sick comedy. MC loves this tsundere girl since middle school it's been two years the girl still treats MC as something that's not even human being. One day MC had the enlightenment that he is a norme, he is not worthy enough for FML to love him (He Broke) and delusion himself into thinking that his love is just an affection of a fan to his idol. Story had a good background for a character development type stories but abusive FML realy ruined this for me.

Many protagonists in romcom novels proclaim "I am not the Main Character!" and many of them are filthy liars, but this novel is a rare case where this elusive feeling that world doesn't revolve around protagonist is very strong. After giving up on his main-character syndrome, Wataru drifts aimlessly on the currents of life, encountering many many characters, and pretty much every one of them is busy with their own things: family, friends, clubs, part-time jobs, etc.

Overall, though technically in a romcom genre, this novel has very little romance, and... more>> comedy is heavily tinted in melancholic tones. Don't expect a "regret"-type novel either: our main heroine needs a lot of character emotional development to do before she can self reflect enough to experience such emotions.

I like this story very much, but it's a very precise hit right into my tastes, so there's a lot of personal bias involved. LN version, due to getting a editorial pass, is slightly better, you should get your hands on it if you're interested. <<less

Important first understanding - The first 23 chapters can be tough to understand sometimes. The translator makes a comment on this around chapter 23 and notes that things should become better and they do. You may need to re-read the first few chapters because of this.

The story though is an excellent rom-com that brings the misunderstandings and anxieties of youth to the forefront. Most of the chapters follow the ML but there are a few POV chapters in regards to the FL which is nice to highlight the different... more>> mindsets.

While I always enjoy a story where the ML and FL actually gets together early don't expect it in this case.

I gave this 4 out of 5 simply because of the first 20+ chapters but if they were re-written it would probably be 5 stars. <<less
