Although I rate most novel i like very generously, but I wouldn't called it a masterpiece. Both mc and ml affection MUST show on the outside. At least for reader to actually see that both giving equal affection. 

I've read too many BL where we can only see that one party shows affection (which is usually the gong and the shou is not showing enough. it could be the other way around too, but majority of BL is shou mc). For example, character B love character A and always give alot of affection to A, almost unconditional. we know that character A also love character B but its not showing enough and it always feel one-sided on character B part. Its one of those "playing hard to get" character that usually like this. Its too many of them and it gets to the point that i will avoid the story altogether even if its good. <<less

I called it "Role reverse" because idk what else to call it. role reverse is where the shou (uke) have the personality/attitude of a gong. they are what people typically call "manly". but not just manly in term of appearance, but also personality. They are dominant, assertive, protective, obsessive, possessive. The gong (seme) is either normal or soft or timid/shy/tsundere but not necessarily weak. The danmei/bl novel that I'll add here will include one or more of these scenes :

- shou pinning (kabedon) gong on the wall or bed

- shou cradle/princess carry gong

- shou treat gong very attentively and delicately

- shou is the one who always take the initiative first

and many more. just think of a typical gong act towards shou but instead its the shou who acts like a gong.

how to judge if a novel heartwarming or wholesome? for me, if I see that the main couple never argue and always affectionate with each other till the end of the novel, I'd deem it as wholesome. surprisingly, there's not many novel i could find that has this criteria even though its not a difficult things to do. but it seems like author always need to put "drama" in the couple relationships as if they're allergic to the word wholesome. I get that it "realistic" for couple to argue and have disagreement, but its also not impossible to not have disagreement and the percentage of wholesome novel is so few that it becomes a rarity.... more>> style="line-height: 40px;"> the words "misunderstanding", "miscommunication" or "no communication" is an enemy to this list. so any novel that have those trope will not be added here bc those are usually the cause of non-harmonious relationship. unless the "misunderstanding" is not directed at the main characters relationship, then those word is fine.

[wholesome] = just like what it means, giving off wholesome, happy vibes when reader reading it.

[smooth sailing] = can't exactly be described as wholesome. might have certain dark topic. but main character relationship is going well and author never made use of "cold war/argument/discord" plot to be use on main characters relationship. thus the word 'smooth sailing' coming from.

my rating is rather bias based on my preferences. so some that i might rate low, is not necessarily a bad read. below you can clearly see my preferences mostly tend towards gong/seme bc almost every single BL is shou/uke oriented that I'm getting sick of it. but it'd be a different story if its a switch/verse couple, i'll like it no matter what lol

When I see the "obsessive love", "possessive characters", "clingy lover" or "yandere" on NU tags, by default I will automatically think it applied for gong only. Its indeed true for the most part, out of 100% I'd say only 15% is where one of the tag applied to shou. maybe 15% is too charitable. So what I'm trying to say is, shou with this kind of trait is very rare, I'd consider it a hidden gem if I ever stumble upon a danmei with this type of shou.... more>>
