callmejiejies personal preference list (bl)
no specific tags or genres….the only metric used for this list is my personal taste and preferences. idgaf abt how high or low they’re rated on nu i will honestly rate and review these novels based purely on how much i, laoniang, enjoyed them haha. ofc if i remembered a novel enough to include it i probably enjoyed it to some extent.

novels are in no particular order (of rating) and list will be updated as i go (feel free to drop recommendations). note that this is NOT a list of recommendations, more like my personal tracker (ofc, most of the highly rated novels here are the best of the genre imo) :)

★★★★★★ — tbh i was inspired to make an account after reading this novel and it genuinely astounds me how people rate this novel lower than some of the more popular ufs. even as a veteran reader with thousands of novels under my belt the caliber of writing in this novel truly impressed me. here’s a protagonist that doesn’t need to sacrifice intelligence (read: common sense) to move along the plot, nor does the author need to make up some heavily convoluted logic line to prove the MC’s intelligence - rather, the conclusions the MC reaches give you the feeling of “omg!! i can’t believe i didn’t think of that.” in addition, the romance between... more>>

★★★★★ — i first read this a few years ago and recently reread (not in detail) to alleviate some exam season stress LMAO. even with my (slightly more) developed prefrontal cortex, i still felt that this was particularly well written. i honestly agree with most other reviewers that the ML is “not like other yanderes omg” in that he’s a truly sympathetic character. you will feel for him and the horrible things he’s been through, and his responses to his trauma are very human (at least for a novel). in a way, the MC exists purely to heal the ML (physically, mentally, emotionally), sacrificing a bit of his own character nuance tbh but the journey... more>>

★★★★★★ — errrrm so first of all,,,y’all should know that crematorium is one of my fav tropes everrrr i love some quality groveling. second, i looooooove badass MCs like i can only enjoy a novel if the MC has hella agency fr. this novel already checks two of my top criteria so ofc it was gonna make my top reads of the year. on top of that, the writing is truly captivating and i never got bored (i mean he had to capture seven men so the author had to get pretty creative lol). I love that the MC manages to be ruthless and calculating without being annoying (or doing things purely to create angst).... more>>

★★★★★ — i read this so long ago i barely remember the plot anymore but I remember thinking it was pretty well written at the time. the MC is badass affff and I loved his interactions with the ML (they’re quite a well matched pair, in more than one way if you catch my drift haha). also has a hint of mystery which i love. i’m surprised this novel is considered more underrated so regardless of ur preferences i highly HIGHLY recommend you give this a read out of all the novels in this list if you haven’t already. ... more>>

★★★★☆ — welp what can i say. i love crematorium ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ this novel is a staple and a good introduction to crematorium novels, it basically captures all the relevant tropes and characters. i would say anyone who indulges is schadenfreude or seeing s*um suffer would probably enjoy this novel bc there really is not much else to it (of course, the plot is not bad either but crematorium is the essence of the novel). i gave four stars instead of five bc i did feel it got a bit draggy towards the end and tbh the MLs started to annoy me, even though i alr knew they were s*um (that truly is the eternal paradox... more>>

★★★★☆ — tbh i was deliberating between giving 3 or 4 stars but ended up giving 4 out of appreciation. let me preface this by saying that slice of life is realllly not my cup of tea, most of the time i need some overarching plot or danger to keep me interested. so i think the fact that i rated this novel 4/5 in terms of personal enjoyment despite that speaks to its quality. i thought the premise was really novel (two gods pretending to be humans and stressing over each other’s “human” lifespans HAHA), in fact it’s what drew me in. the delivery (of humor) is hilarious, and i really appreciated that the author... more>>

★★★★☆ — won’t harp on its strengths for too long as this novel’s reputation speaks for itself. i think in terms of writing, the story is definitely pretty interesting and well written relative to most other ufs, and props to the author for knowing where to end it instead of dragging the story out (WTNL i’m looking at you….). since i read this novel directly after SMAA, i would say the main reason i felt this novel fell a bit short was the MC’s lack of real motivation for competing in the competition, which made his character and victories feel less compelling. like he heals his hands pretty early on so he didn’t even want... more>>

★★★☆☆ — pretty cute novel, writing is good, i have no major criticisms for it. it’s one of those relationships that build up gradually (more realistically) and is definitely not in your face. it’s like slowly savoring a cup of lemon tea and gradually noticing the notes of honey, rather than consuming a spoonful of sugar directly and immediately being assaulted by its sweetness. if you like sweet slow burns, this is a good pick. if you like a realistic yet idealistic relationship building focus, this is a good pick. for me, this was a good novel for passing time but once i got halfway through i found it was getting a bit too repetitive... more>>

★★★★★★ — um i have no explanation for this….like this is truly my problematic fav. all i can say is….i found their struggle particularly moving LMAOSJSKSK. i don’t cry easily when reading novels but this is one of the few novels that had me staying up crying into my pillow at 5 am in the morning. i think i actually like this more than erha, which is crazy since erha is one of my faves. ofc this novel may not be palatable for everyone as it deals with a lot of heavy topics, but i will say that while the author definitely doesn’t shy away from writing some explicitly horrible situations, she also doesn’t try to... more>>

★★★★☆ — interesting premise, pretty quirky characters and plot overall. i can’t go too into detail since i read this a while ago. i saw some complaints about the some of the characters’ personalities, which i actually disagree with since this is fundamentally a satirical comedy - ofc some of their reactions may be exaggerated to outline the ridiculousness of their characters. i also enjoyed that the “housewife” MC was the top rather than the police officer ML haha, yay to rejecting heteronormative roles! my one main gripe with this novel is the pacing - i think the author is pretty good at writing humorous situations, so much so that i was able to enjoy... more>>

★★★☆☆ — i tend to be a sucker for battle royale type settings, especially if they involve strategy games, and this novel is no exception. the premise is pretty interesting (concept similar to alice in borderland) and it started off pretty strong, and on paper it has everything i like (memorable characters, diverse survival type worlds, card collecting to fuel my gacha addiction….). i rlly enjoyed the MC and ML (forensics professor and police officer), they’re such a cute power couple and the author seems to really know what they’re talking about when it comes to detective work. i ended up only giving it 3/5 because of the PACING. i think for ufs each mini... more>>

★★★★☆ — SO CUTE!!! i can’t believe it took me this long to find this novel. if i could give 4.5 stars i would but unfortunately there’s no usable half star text available. the MC and ML are both so cute and their relationship developed very naturally (but i wouldn’t consider it a slow burn). ML is simply a huge vinegar jar and the misunderstandings are so HILARIOUS! if i had the say, the only thing that kept me from giving this novel a full five stars is that it’s missing a bit of depth as the story is relatively simple and a lot of characters (other than main couple and the 2 concubines) are... more>>

★★★☆☆ — oh boy i might get shot for this one…ummm so i read this novel fairly recently and as i was reading i remembered that i tried reading it before and dropped it, and now i remember why. tbh for such a highly rated novel it felt really underwhelming?? first and foremost i wasn’t a big fan of the MC’s character, some of his actions just didn’t make a lot of sense to me, like the way his first instinct was to go and attach himself to the ML despite being given the opposite orders by the system and having absolutely no fear of any consequences (keep in mind he didn’t know anything else... more>>

★★★★☆ — i’d rate this closer to 3.5 stars tbh. for starters, i think this is the first novel where i’ve seen the scene in the summary take place in the actual novel, down to the exact lines haha. the story is pretty simple, it’s about a high achieving rich kid who possesses the tmall genie (like alexa but cuter) of an even more high achieving top student, who’s secretly a pauper prince, and their budding relationship. even though the author doesn’t go into detail about their characters, i still felt that they were really touching :’) the way they had opposite personalities and lives but grew to care about and empathize with one another... more>>

★★★☆☆ — istg i keep coming across new novels with interesting plots and get excited to start reading them only to find that i’ve already read them years ago *_* not much to say about this one, as another review put it it’s your textbook crematorium novel. infatuated turned jaded shou, misunderstood yandere type gong, hella dog blood (and actual blood of enemies spilled) before their reconciliation at the veeeeeery end. i think you’ll like this one if you rlly like abusing gongs,,,,and can sacrifice everything else HAHA. this novel is full of logical fallacies, plot holes patched up by the flimsiest bandaids, shou doing unreasonable (or illogical) things just to be hurtful, poorly written... more>>

★★★★☆ — ngl i enjoyed this one more than i thought i would haha. the concept is pretty novel - uf player acts as an npc to avoid death flags, uncover hidden plot lines, and reap the greatest rewards in each horror world. i don’t remember if i finished it or not but from what i’ve read i think the plot is well executed, and it’s refreshing to see the MC be the intelligent AND overpowered one instead (the ML is more like a dog that follows him around in this one but it’s pretty cute and refreshing ngl). also you get to collect the ghosts in each world as cards to take out with... more>>

★★★★☆ — CUUUUUUUUTE HAHAHAHAHA. for anyone who has a really short attention span and wants to read some top tier comedy, THIS IS THE ONE!! there are thirty or so chapters but each chapter is more like a short collection of mini theatres of the lives of our pure and honest stand-in and our dog president. this is a textbook example of the ONLY way misunderstandings should be used HAHAHA. I will write a more detailed review of its characters and story in the next review for its adaptation (TSIRBR), i think the last thing i’ll say here is that while this is definitely a pure comedy, the short chapter and the way it’s formatted... more>>

★★★★★ — this may be a bit of a controversial take as i see most people seem to prefer the shorter version, but i honestly think that fleshing the characters out in this way truly allowed this story to shine. despite falling in typical romance stereotype categories, every single character here is much more than meets the eye, and i love that there are no true bad people in here. as with most character driven plots, this story is not without its flaws, but i think a mistake a lot of readers make and the cause of a lot of low reviews is that they go in treating this as a light-hearted comedy (like its... more>>

★★★★☆ — omg this is one of the most entertaining ufs i’ve read it a while!! basically the MC transmigrates to multiple horror uf worlds with his love capture system HAHAHAHA. if you’re a horror uf fan, this would DEFINITELY be a great “breather” novel in that you’re able to enjoy the horror, problem-solving, and romance aspects of uf without the stress of worrying about something happening to the MC. the writing is pretty good too, idek how to describe it for this one but it was able to keep me engaged (read: not skipping chapters) the entire time. fair warning tho, the MC is a MASSIVE face con like to the point where he loses... more>>

★★★★★ — woooow. all i can say is this novel realllly lives up to its reputation!! what a pleasant surprise. MC basically is on the verge of death and needs to go through 12 doors (horror worlds) in order to escape his calamity. each arc is around 5-10 chapters which is nice. what really stood out to me is that this novel was probably the first horror novel to make me feel genuinely terrified for the MCs. the MC starts out very much an ordinary human, and even though ML is badass af, he is still very much NOT invincible and makes mistakes as well, like i genuinely did not know if he would make... more>>

★★★★☆ — I’M CRYINGGGGGG. i don’t think i’ve laughed this hard at a novel in forever. just as a disclaimer, i only made it through half of the novel before dropping it (nothing against the novel, i just tend to get bored once the couple gets together) so this review is just based on the part i read. this novel is a slapstick comedy through and through (disguised as a transmigration novel). the MC’s brain is definitely….something LMAOOOOOOO and the fact that the ML is able to keep up with his shenanigans….truly a match made in heaven. on the surface, it’s a about the MC transmigrating into the ML’s sugar baby cannon fodder and changing... more>>

★★☆☆☆ — mmmm I was debating between 2 or 3 stars for this one, but ultimately decided to be true to my initial rating. in all honesty this novel really isn’t bad, it just doesn’t have a lot going for it. the MC is just a yandere magnet, every single (handsome) male character that encounters him is immediately obsessed w him even if they’re not the ML (like atp why didn’t the author just make them ML soul fragments too since they all act the same), and that’s literally the entire novel. both the plot and the characters are relatively cookie cutter, low key really uncreative horror plots. idk i knew the obsessive love aspect would... more>>

★★★★★ — omg WHENNNNN will i find a gong ab*se novel that i haven’t ALREADY READD SNSJDKDKDKDKD. yeah i remember reading this 2-3 years back, thankfully i don’t remember enough of it to ruin my experience of rereading it haha. this is basically everything i want from a crematorium novel, for starters. i LOVE when authors create a misunderstanding that’s really no one’s fault (mostly). everything that happened in the past is just a series of unfortunate misunderstandings, but there really was no way for anyone to know any better. nevertheless, not knowing better doesn’t erase the hurt so the gong goes through HELLA before getting the MC back in an appropriate way, and i... more>>

I know this is totally out of your list but have you tried reading esports? I just saw that you love characters with depth and motivation and for me, esports characters are the way to go (i mean they literally are fighting for their dreams and aspirations).

If you ever do check esports out, I highly suggest Glory translated by CG. Characters were really good I couldn't help but root for all of them!

(if anyone is interested here is a translation of my ratings -

★★★★★★ — AMAZING, ASTOUNDING, CHEF’S KISS, exceeds expectations. my top reads EVER

★★★★★ — checks all the boxes for me, thoroughly enjoyed reading and top tier for its genre

★★★★☆ — overall enjoyable read, no major issues (maybe some minor ones). still highly recommend

★★★☆☆ — pros outweigh the cons. writing quality may not be as good in some places or simply may not be my cup of tea, but i still enjoyed it more than i didn’t.

★★☆☆☆ — may have held my interest to some extent but probably dropped and would not reread.

★☆☆☆☆ — errrr not great would not recommend. i usually carefully prescreen the novels i read so it’s unlikely i’ll ever have any of these but if i do…beware
