Dark Romance ( red or black)

Dark Romance ( red or black)
This is more of a list of observations than completed novels, but feel free to watch and see if any of them interest you. Just to warn you in advance, I prefer dark and psychologically dense stories with detestable characters—especially male characters. So don’t expect mature, reasonable, or even kind men. Maybe a romanticized toxic man who just doesn’t hurt the heroine (let’s say that, at least, he doesn’t traumatize her).

(Black) Do not read if you cannot tolerate dark content in a romance novel. There is no romanticization here of the dark characteristics of the ML. He is a cruel, obsessive, possessive, and abusive nobleman. There are scenes of r*pe and physical ab*se. The author makes a point of showing the heroine's suffering and her repulsion toward the ML. And yes, he is the main love interest.... more>>

(red) I really like this novel, even though the story is apparently quite cliché. It has some of the greatest s*xual tension I've seen in a long time, and I really like the characterization of the FL as a broken and quiet woman. Her past justifies who she has become, and I love how she chooses to make herself vulnerable and controlled by the ML. There is a very subtle power dynamic with a strong emotional dependence.... more>>

(A romanticized red) I have a fondness for this novel even though it is quite cliché. Among the many I’ve read about a protagonist who goes back in time to change her life, this one moved me the most because of the female lead’s nature. She is sweet without being naïve, submissive without tolerating disrespect, and fragile without being vulnerable. I adore the dark contrast between the FL’s past life and the new one she chooses.... more>>

Explaining my use of the words red, black, or orange:

(Red) is for more morally ambiguous and gray characters. They tend to be more tolerable because of their immorality, either because they have been romanticized or because their cruel side is justified in the story by a trauma, a cliché characterization, or a planned revenge.

(Black) is for characters who are openly detestable. They are made to be feared, hated, and to generate discomfort in both the reader and the FL. They tend to be cruel and ruthless, even if there is a justification for why they like being that way.

(Orange) is for characters disguised as black or red. They tend to be deceptive about having a cruel nature. Usually, their actions are easily explained more by circumstance than by the character's choice itself.
