I prefer reading fantasy by authors from overseas as they feel more indulgent in the fantastical tropes that don’t feel dull to me. It’s rather hard to find novels that truly are interested in this kind of fantasy genre though, so I’ll collect them here. This will not include high fantasy with a vague medieval type of outline or fantastical european ambiance, like the common setting you’d see with many… many stories here. The main criteria is a down to earth perspective from the main character traversing the world. A world that’s more real than what’d usually be depicted and a more standardized era instead of a messy collage of whatever the author thought sounded cool.
