the MC knows that something bad (usually death) is going to happen to the character that they like, so they work to stop this from happening. sometimes this knowledge is because of isekai or time travel, and sometimes the character is just terminally ill and it doesn't require anything supernatural to predict. I also include stories in which it's the love interest saving the MC
