Novels where the MC has interesting relations with side characters. With GREAT side characters that do not exist just to praise, love and admire the MC and make him/her look good. (A bit is okay though)

Side characters :  as strong as the MC (or stronger) ;   NOT love interests ;  really cool / interesting ; preferably the same gender as the MC (go bromance!) ;  have a (interesting) life aside from the MC ;  not the goofy / fatty sidekick or the useless cute little brother / sister / son / daughter ; not the obligatory science guy / medic girl;
