I love this novel a lot and just by author alone I'm sure you want to read it, so I'm going to talk about a few things I don't like here instead.

One, the characters are boring. All of the characters in MDZS were fantastic. Their personality, their charm, their goals- all of it was real and tangible. You loved them, you hated them, you cried for them. This novel... no. I cared for maybe two characters in the whole novel, and both were side characters. Motives are never explained, personality is near nonexistent, and the villains are either hilariously over the top or flat and dead. I genuinely thought the author wrote this before MDZS because these characters were so poorly fleshed out I'd even dare to say that SVSSS might've had more three-dimensional characters, and I don't even like that novel.

Second, the book is so unnecessarily long. SVSSS, for all of its failures, was short and concise. MDZS dragged a bit but all of the scenes were still important. This novel is way, way too long. Many of the arcs can be cut or shortened and the book would be more or less the same. Throw out a few side characters, cut a few minor arcs, shorten the s*upid court shenanigans, and bam, a better novel with a shorter word count. As someone else in the comments said, the author got lost in the lore and forgot to be concise.

Third, the ending? Oof. Spoilers! So the ending is split into four-ish sections. One of them is a giant mech battle between a statue and a mech-thing made up of all of the buildings in the heavenly palace. Can't make this stuff up. I laughed so hard it broke my immersion. The last part is great but it still doesn't quite make up for... yeah.

The donghua somehow manages to give everyone personality and also makes everything pass by very quickly, definitely watch it. Even if you hate animation/anime, this one is really something special. The animation is great, the storyline works out (so far), the voice acting is splendid and the musical score is fantastic. The manhua is also very pretty, I'd recommend it too.

Has angst so if that's not your cup of tea, I wouldn't recommend reading it all at once.
