I'm glad I did because this has been a very interesting take on the subgenre in a very cathartic sort of way. Here, the protagonist is not a villainess trying to avoid a bad end, it's the heroine, who following the intervention of a reincarnator seeking to replace her, becomes something of a sociopath. She finds herself stuck in a situation where she has to continue to train and grow stronger in a vein far more similar to that of a shonen protagonist, but with a higher level of brutality than the typical shonen protag. Anything much more than that toes the line of spoiler territory, but hopefully that much is enough to interest you. <<less

The powers and world are interesting, sure, but they’re not really anything I haven’t seen before. The combination of an utterly numb, emotionless husk of a protagonist despite his seemingly endless power and the slice of life fluff-adjacent antics of the dragon children is something that is unique in my memory and it makes this novel great (so far).

Despite these flaws, the novels remains a fun, relatively lighthearted and engaging read throughout with an excellent official translation by WuxiaWorld. However, because this is Mad Snail, although the novel does conclude, the final arcs are dissatisfying and feel extremely rushed, but do manage to put a bow on the main story, while completely abandoning many side plot threads that just go totally unexplored.  <<less

I enjoyed most of what I read up to that point, with the heavy focus on kingdom-building and creating an industrial society.
