Isekai-esque fun times part 2

Novels I have read or am reading, which include skills, level/game system and/or reincarnation, basically isekai, or just some kind of similar fantasy setting. The list also includes my score for them and what I thought about them which might include slight spoilers (sorry), some novel 'reviews' are shorter either because I've forgotten about them or just didn't have a lot to say about them. Mostly Korean and a few Japanese novels, I haven't and don't plan on reading any Chinese novels, i honestly can't understand the cultivation and divinity thing most of their novels have so i tend to avoid them, and I avoid slice of life novels like the plague. The list isn't in any particular order, the ones near the end are the ones I've read most recently. I will update this list and add novels I like and find worth reading every time I discover one. The world is just incredible, the mix of the rougelike game with a fantasy world setting, it's probably the best I've seen from the pure transmigrated into a game genre. The way it mixes the multiple players that are transmigrated into the game is just genius. The fact that the players are hunted by the local 'npcs' because they're threatening to the world and developed their own security measures and hunters specifically meant for people from earth... The players having to pretend to be locals to just stay alive and not be suspected, and their own countermeasures against the locals, establishing their own secret communities and methods like some sort of spies is just so intricate and thrilling. Like I can genuinely believe that this is how people would react in that sort of situation, just resulting in such awesome set pieces and scenes that keep me on the edge of my seat.

A perfect way to introduce the stat and level system. Monster essences are just such a smart and fun way to execute it. Basically any monster(with some exceptions) can drop an essence that grants the person that absorbs it the monsters main power, and people can only absorb the amount that equals their level so they have to be careful eventually to have even the chance to become strong in the future to not absorb ones that are useless to oneself, and to level up you have to beat more and more unique monsters. The essences are rare, but powerful and each one feels unique, there's so much variety and interesting ways to combine them and get stronger that it genuinely makes me want to play a game that's like this novel describes, and it all feels super well thought out and deep by the author.

The characters are great and have development. The main character's kind of an as*hole at the beginning, but slowly starts to grow accustomed to the world and becoming a real local to the world and caring about the people around him that he previously didn't. He grows, we gradually learn about his past, and he becomes a more and more interesting protagonist the more you progress. The side characters are interesting. I'm not the biggest fan of the harem stuff and there is barely any romance, just some fanservice, but the heroines are all quite interesting and endearing, the novel makes you care about each one, and the characters that aren't don't feel intentionally sacrificed/sabotaged, my favorites even tended to be the smaller characters, like the 'bear-like man' or Dwarkey that have interesting and cool personalities and some of my favorite moments in the whole novel.

The biggest flaw to me is the shounen genre. Although it's rare, there are moments where it's extremely noticeable and obvious/uses some extreme shounen cliches that don't feel like they fit the novel or the dark setting the world is in at all, kind of ruining the pacing and important moments. Like two of the biggest villains so far(240 chapters in), the dragonslayer, and the corpse collecter just have impossible amounts of plot armor and are so imbalanced and unfair, and their final fight scenes were atrociously slow and badly written, even though they should've been the most hype moments of the novel, the author meticulously takes his time, pointlessly extending every line of dialogue or action to more than ten times it should've normally been. The somewhat obvious power of friendship/unrealistic moments of sudden endless power just completely take me out of the immersion when reading. If the novel embraced it's more mature aspects and stopped dancing around, avoiding, saying words like dick, s*x or f*ck while at the same time having absolutely horrifying scenes like a persons skull melting into their brain because of acid... It just feels like such a large tonal shift and imbalance, because, in my opinion, to have it's age rating lowered or something so kids can buy it or something. I don't know, there are just times where it feels super unnatural and childish in a way that seems forced and unpleasant that really made me consider giving this a lower score.

But yeah, my issues aside, it's genuinely a great novel that I think nearly anyone can enjoy and love reading and I plan on sticking with until it's done(also the TL is perfect which is a huge plus) <<less

  @Chikyuu Sorry for the late reply but yeah, some of my ratings are perhaps inaccurate/outdated as of now since translators change, issues are fixed or made worse etc. which is unfortunate but all my reviews and score is based on my experience and subjective opinion. After I add something I rarely touch it again, this has been a personal project of mine for a couple years now and after all I forget stuff/lose interest/move on, but I'm glad you liked the list and thank you for the reply, it means a lot!

  Thank you for the compliment! I haven't read much lately because I wasn't able to find new novels to read so I've been taking a break so in the meantime the content piles up more, I don't really control how many chapters a novel gets translated for so I just add stuff that seems promising and I enjoyed reading even if it was short.
