Isekai-esque fun times part 2

Novels I have read or am reading, which include skills, level/game system and/or reincarnation, basically isekai, or just some kind of similar fantasy setting. The list also includes my score for them and what I thought about them which might include slight spoilers (sorry), some novel 'reviews' are shorter either because I've forgotten about them or just didn't have a lot to say about them. Mostly Korean and a few Japanese novels, I haven't and don't plan on reading any Chinese novels, i honestly can't understand the cultivation and divinity thing most of their novels have so i tend to avoid them, and I avoid slice of life novels like the plague. The list isn't in any particular order, the ones near the end are the ones I've read most recently. I will update this list and add novels I like and find worth reading every time I discover one. The overall outline of the story is the same as 'Genius Wizard Takes Medicine', protagonist makes an incredibly niche character with an extremely poor physical condition but unparalleled talent in magic in an nearly apocalyptic game setting but with some added Cthulhu dressing, becomes a mercenary and grows stronger to hopefully escape the nightmarish world. I do really enjoy the lovecraftian esque cosmic and body horror, the large indescribable beasts, strange and terrifying concepts etc. It does seem like the author has done research on the topic(as someone that's not really familiar with it personally) but pretty much everything else is rubbish.... more>>

Starting with the protagonist, genuinely fascinating and fun to see interact with the world, both the past of the disabled orphan mc that reincarnated into the game, and the villain mc that he 'possessed' are some of my favorite aspects of the novel, slowly and subtly learning about the mystery of what he did, experienced, lived like occasionally was so fascinating. The laughing man trait is genuinely terrifying, being forced to smile forever and seeing the trait used for both good and bad ways just make you really reconsider things you the reader do in real life and the variety of ways a simple smile can be taken advantage of or misunderstood.

The side characters are all incredible. The circus troupe members are all fascinating, their personalities, pasts, motivations abilities are all so unique, whenever a new one joins is always welcome, they all really do feel like a family and people you'd want to be around. Even the villains are almost always interesting as you can always find some way to see their justification for what they're doing and can somewhat sympathise with, even if you despise what the actions they're taking.

The story is also unafraid to go to some extremely disturbing and dark places the of descriptions of realistic and fantastical horrors, ab*se and cruelty make the 'Cthulhu Game' novel I read prior look like child's play, genuinely horrifying stuff happens that sent chills down my spine. But those moments also make the more wholesome and happy moments shine, I was at the edge of my seat, either screaming 'WTF', laughing out or gasping from a twist in nearly every arc, the emotional roller coaster it takes you on is wild but incredibly entertaining.

There are a couple issues with it like the over-reliance on cliffhangers that start to become more obvious and repetitive as time goes by. The times where it goes way too into detail about some aspects of the world that feel like they could've been 90% shorter and achieved the same effect making it a bit of a chore to read through and feel like pointless word count extensions and ramblings. The kind of uncomfortable romance, with nearly every girl interested in the mc being basically borderline underage(though best girl Yurakne is safe thank god) and the occasional frustrating typos in the translation.. But really all my complaints kind of feel like nitpicking because there's so much to find in here, so what I disliked was overshadowed by the overwhelming stuff that I loved.

The writing is just fantastic, the way the author drops clues to the unseen story, builds the well thought out world behind us, and genuinely surprises me with twists, it's kind of unlike what I've ever read before personally. My opinion could change, as we're currently barely half way into translating the story (200 chapters deep) and from what I know it isn't finished, but everything I've experienced has made it a 10/10. <<less

At first I thought it was just the somewhat poor translation quality, but I quickly realized, the amount of times the story blatantly contradicts itself, makes no sense from a writing perspective that wouldn't make sense even with the best translation possible. The pacing is just super messy and feels like there is zero continuity, with the amount of times it's in the middle of a story and randomly goes to a completely different perspective forgetting all about what happened beforehand. And the characters are just awful, the amount of times they do, say something out of nowhere that completely ruins any of the previous build up or knowledge we had of their personalities or motivations beforehand is crazy, I feel like I'm becoming more and more insane and losing my mind reading this novel, it's just not good no matter how much i wanted to enjoy it.

Another problem is just the random parts dedicated to a whole chapter that are literally never mentioned again, like early on we had like a whole chapter dedicated to the mc identifying a counterfeit painting and making a bet with one of the heroines to see if it's real, of course he succeeds, but the whole debacle is quite literally gone and never mentioned again the second it's over, both the money the mc 'made' from the bet as well as the heroines memory of it. THE CHARACTER LATER ON LITERALLY GOES DOWN A LIST OF THE SUSPICIOUS DEEDS THE MC HAS DONE FOR HER AND THE IDENTIFYING THE COUNTERFEIT PAINTING PART EVEN THOUGH SHE ALREADY KNEW HE HAD NEVER SEEN THE ORIGINAL IS CONVENIENTLY THE ONLY THING NOT MENTIONED. It genuinely felt like the author included the whole thing on accident and forgot to erase it on release, and this kind of thing happens FREQUENTLY, I felt as if i had imagined the whole altercation in the first place further making me feel insane and gaslit...

I'll leave this off with a rant of the story that made me lose all hope in it, literally could be the dumbest in all of the near 200 or more novels I've read on this site: There's this kid that is randomly introduced, around 20 chapters in, starts out shy, the main character attempts to confront him/make him more at ease, mostly because the kid apparently becomes an 'important' figure in the future, and they kind of hit it off and talk between each other quite well. But as the main character starts showing off his ''strength" by identifying a bear paw print on the ground while on a group hunting mission, and crippling it by throwing a dagger in it's eye while it's roaring, the kid grows mad with jealousy, for some reason out of nowhere. Later that day the kid finds out his 'teacher' is making a super strong golem for him as a present for being grateful to him helping her out all the time I guess(yippee!!!). BUT IMMEDIATELY the kid starts making plans to steal it for himself for no reason whatsoever, to take revenge I guess on the 'capable' main character for doing absolutely nothing to him(well he did immediately go help him back up from the ground after the bear went down but I guess that doesn't matter) Even though it's said like a sentence prior that the golem is being made for him anyways. SO, later that night, the kid, of course like any reasonable academy student, sneaks into the research office, breaks some locks and literally all security measurements set by the 'genius' teacher LMAO, and menacingly takes it under the moons glow swearing vengeance.... and this all happens basically in the span of a single chapter...... and on the next chapter we're on to another completely unrelated adventure with the mc YAY!!!!......

I freaking hate this novel bruh, maybe I'm overreacting but It just doesn't feel like it's improving anytime soon. How it's got more readers than the romance novel I read prior AND nearly exactly the same score as it is unreal to me, maybe it gets insanely good like a hundred chapters in, but I'm not willing to give it another chance, maybe you all will have more patience than me. <<less

From hearing the story of and befriending an ntr'ed drake, to making saltwater placebo potions, to fighting a table knife wielding monkey assassin, to learning about a saint otaku fanfic writer in the world, this novel is truly hilarious, interesting and unpredictable with every step it takes and I love it.

The world is captivating, takes the medieval setting to the extreme, absolutely enhanced by the spontaneous near satire comedy that captured my sense of humor effortlessly. It doesn't have the most complex worldbuilding or story but It's still fun to find out whenever we see glimpses of how the world functions or ended up this way. The way all wizards are treated like some sort of gods, even the most incompetent ones, due to their social status and bizarre ego's is hilarious to me. The characters are great, odd and eccentric, and their personalities shine through, including the main character, the heroines and most random side characters.

Really love the magic system, instead of using 'mana' and using 'insentient' spells like I'm normally used to, this takes more of an approach like spirit magic I've seen in other novels but for the whole magic system. A persons magical abilities are mostly determined if they have learned the 'magic' language and are socially adept enough to befriend the mysteries of the world that approach them and give them power and it just offers a fresh new flavor that's interesting to watch.

I both liked and hated the time/space wizard aspect, the idea of hundreds of medieval people in the world having the magical ability to see the future is terrifying, each fighting to ensure their own 'good' future is such a fascinating way to implement it. But when we first meet one, around 80 chapters in, Gerard, the story does take a bit of a nosedive, he appears, knowing probably everything about the main character and his future, gives 'advice' and a random 'main quest' and dips out, and it did take me out of my immersion for a bit because I think giving this novel a real 'main' quest takes away the sense of freedom and adventure it has initially, maybe I'm looking too deep into it, but I pray this doesn't play too big of a role in the future of the novel, but it does recover quickly.

The only reason I don't yet want to give it a complete 5 is because of my slight uncertainty of it's future, but nearly everything I've read has been genuinely incredible. <<less

I love the overall progression. At the beginning of the novel the protagonist is kicked out of his family and school, so he goes to live in the woods, and honestly I found all of the survival mechanic's to be the most interesting aspects of this novel, just seeing the mc struggle and eventually succeed in making his camp, learn how to gather food, hunt, and make stuff, and eventually succeed in further and further upgrading his way of living brings a lot of satisfaction to me as a reader. Gradually developing his skills in the process and slowly building up the relationships with other characters is great!

The world is pretty interesting, the characters are great and I really like the main heroines and their different personalities, backstories and the way they interact with the mc. There isn't much to say about the story since the mc tries to stay away from it intentionally and actually kind of succeeds and I actually preferred it that way so we could focus more on the development of the standout-ish stuff

The lengthy way of writing can be a big deterrent, in almost every chapter it feels like the author has a deadline of words they have to reach, and reading can become a chore. Flashbacks in the middle of something interesting of things we've already experienced are common and interrupts the flow of the story. Many times the author explains the same point over and over again in a slightly different way that gets tiresome. And overly hyperbolic/overcomplicated writing, but it also produced my favorite 'line' in writing history so it's okay:

''I approached a big oak and drew a horizontal swipe across its trunk, creating a long mark resembling the character ‘一’.''

But the biggest thing holding this novel back for me is the borderline awful translation that doesn't help the extensive way of writing. It just has persistent and never ending obvious mistakes that easily could've been avoided if it was proofread even once by a real person, it's almost as if they're left in intentionally to confuse as many times as possible.

Continually misgendering characters, one of the three main heroines Lortelle is like 80% of the time referred to as he/him whenever in a scene for no reason whatsoever and it's just so painfully obvious because the rest of the text is feminine, but for some reason it keeps using the wrong pronouns, the only reason I completely know she's not male is because of the illustrated cover of the novel. When it unexpectedly changes perspectives, and the dialogue is so bloated, I sometimes lose my focus and have no idea who is talking half of the time because they occur so frequently, pronouns not being reliable is a huge issue. Aside from the mc and the heroines, I have no idea what gender most of the side characters are because they sway so much, most of the time I have to assume by the name alone, making dialogue like a puzzle to figure out every single time we're not in mc's point of view, I've read novels that've had this issue prior but this is the most prominent I've ever seen it been to the point of being genuinely impacting my understanding and readability of the novel to the point it's near impossible to know any details about the characters because you never know when it's referring to them unless by name alone...

And the constant misgendering isn't even the only issue with it, names keep inconsistently changing too, the most tragic I've ever seen in my life is a character called Krum(I'm not even sure that's correct), later referred to as Kum, and like a sentence later, completely out of nowhere unironically, as Cum, I WISH I WAS MAKING THIS UP, in the span of a single chapter, the only tag this novel doesn't seem to have is comedy.......... Either the translation is completely accurate and the author is shitposting or the translator is sabotaging the novel for no reason, there are no translator notes so I'm completely clueless which is true.................. Aside from that, the status window point and skill names change in nearly every single time we see it, which is also frustrating but not as unpleasant like the other problems.

If the translation wasn't so messy I'd actually give this probably a 4 or even higher, but this is the first time I've seen it hurt my experience reading so much, I don't think it's even mtl'ed since the rest of it is kind of decent, it genuinely feels like the translator is intentionally ruining the quality because a machine would not make so many of these s*upid mistakes, it's pretty upsetting, but what can you do... <<less

A lot of it's focus is into it's comedy, and I just personally didn't vibe with it. Much of it is just, did you understand this obscure pop culture reference? If yes then you get a chuckle, if not you're left confused, I usually don't mind it but I found it particularly dubious in this one to the point most of the references made zero sense even if you understood them, it was kind of odd how forced they felt, but maybe that's just something that gets lost from Korean to English..

The characters are quirky and ridiculous, if you've seen any harem anime you'll be able to effortlessly predict every detail about them, they're filled with so many tropes I just stopped caring at some point. Very rarely will we get an actual deep moment with any of them since their quirkyness is almost always the subject of a joke, maybe I'm being overly critical and maybe I'm just not the target age demographic anymore, but I didn't find any of them interesting or noteworthy aside from the main character who I liked the least. Since most of the humor is just playing off of other's flaws, especially the main character that gets made fun of the most, he's a coward, overconfident and many times a complete a**hole, It's definitely an interesting starting point, and I really like stories that force an incompetent main character to become a better person, I didn't find him likeable at all and it didn't feel like he was improving any time soon and it felt very inconsistent the more you paid attention to it.

I mostly just stuck around till 50 chapters in to see how it got better, and yes the main character slowly, gradually gets stronger and has his 'hero' moments, but I didn't find his progress to be satisfying since ALL of the progress feels insignificant/takes place offscreen, and not interesting enough for me to stick around. The world is alright, it's basically earth but more advanced, jetpacks, flying cars, laser guns and whatever, the more you think about it the less some aspects make sense, but I also didn't find it that deep or well thought out.

Really if you're looking for basically a straight imitation of a generic slice of life harem school setting anime I can't say this is bad, but not really what I'm looking for in a novel since I didn't find it's most defining feature, the comedy, good. But it's the most subjective part and you'll probably have a vastly different opinion than me. <<less

2.5/5 A slice of life drama focused on the romance. The premise and story is incredibly basic and cliché, but it has some great moments and characters, unfortunately there are more things that left me frustrated than satisfied by the end.... more>>

Starting with the good, the main characters, Yuri, Sharne, Claire and Irene were all mostly great. The author knows how to make you care and be interested for the characters. The novel had some very well made both heartwarming and breaking scenes, mostly at the beginning half, that did make me scream out in joy and tear up whenever something bad is happening.

The main character, Yuri, is a pitiful protagonist, gets reincarnated and gets an illness that actually persists for the whole novel, she's weak but admirably cares deeply for everyone except for herself and I thought it was enjoyable seeing her develop and care endlessly for everyone's feelings and seeing others always worry about her.

But yeah it's really hard to see the good after that. The main character is also dense, doesn't notice the obvious feelings everyone has for her and constantly lies about not being in pain when she has been countless times said to be honest about it by others, always leading to the same pointless arguments and dialogue. It just gets awfully tiresome how repetitive it does gets, it's just super predictable, the story or relationships seem to only progresses meaningfully whenever the main character suffers and it gets both boring and uncomfortable with how often we get the same 'mc spits up blood or loses consciousness' scenes and everyone reacts the same way.

In the latter half everyone else aside from the protagonist and the main love interest are shafted and lose all build up or meaning their characters had, which was just sad to see how irrelevant my favorites became, it has some of the worst harem novel qualities without being a harem novel. The villains are non intelligent and insanely badly written to the point of seeming like a parody. One of my least favorite sequences that basically made me lose all hope for the novel being the following:

The main character is worried about being poisoned one day, buys a magic device that detects poison, in literally the next chapter she gets poisoned because for some reason they forgot to use the device, it's not that the device didn't work it's that THEY LITERALLY JUST FORGOT TO USE THE CONVENIENTLY BOUGHT MAGIC DEVICE THAT DETECTS POISON THE NEXT DAY/WEEK. everyone's worried about her once they find out she was being poisoned without her knowing. The main character at the time had lost her sense of taste she couldn't taste it obviously but no one knew of this fact at the time, the poison was incredibly bitter and obvious to anyone at tasting a single crumb, if anyone touched that piece of food and didn't have the main characters disposition would've immediately caught it. The love interest is angry, storms off to the kitchen, the most obvious and first place ANYONE would look and immediately sees 4 maids pouring a comical amount of white powder in a soup or whatever, they're obviously caught, imprisoned, tortured and killed immediately. Like holy sh*t you can't make this sh*t up. They just threw their lives away for literally nothing, attempting mu*der of a f*cking Grand Dukes wife, probably the nicest person in the mansion, the person that gives them their livelihood, because they just didn't like her/were jealous of her? They had no plan for escape, no alibi, no motivation, no nothing, just casually planning their next meal to eventually get rid of her. Their eventual torture just felt so unsatisfying and uncomfortable because they literally just felt like punishing pitiful kindergarten children that haven't learned basic human thinking abilities, how those idiots were hired in the first place as maids for a f*cking grand duke baffles me...

There are more examples of this kind of 'villainy' and similar showcases of s*upidity in prior or future chapters, but by that time I had mostly given up/didn't care as much. The novel is fine and readable, but it's just funny how comically s*upid most characters are/end up being, that it's impossible to take anything seriously, and when the author, because of the characters idiocy, recklessness and brief emotional outbursts, tries to build up pointless drama, avoidable by a single step, a single word or action, just makes reading the whole thing more and more worthless and predictable. It's a bit sad since I was actually quite interested, it's rare I find good female protagonist novels, the romance was adorable and wholesome for the most part, and I was very invested in the novel at first. <<less

The plot is pretty bare bones, but there's nothing too odd/wrong or notable for me to get rant about. The main character, transmigrated into an adult game because of his honest harsh review upsetting the god of the game's world, is set on a challenge to survive by making love to the main heroines of the game or dying. The powersystem is fine, the main character becomes near strongest immediately but the magic system and skills are complex enough to be entertaining and the progression/training/growth and acquirement of new cool skills is satisfying. The plot and pacing is good, the characters(heroines) are somewhat decent/interesting the more you learn about them, but in the end they all kind of end up in the same position in the mc's harem so it's hard to get very attached to any individual one though there are some that stand out.

Not a big fan of the main character, there are rare times where he really gets to shine/show his interests or personality when having dialogue with some heroines like Liliana(best girl btw) who's relationship is pretty funny/feels somewhat genuine because of the fact that she's not the game's main heroine the mc is forced to get along with. But most of the time he just pretends/tries to get into the pants of every female around him/or just does some basic hero stuff. It's SOMEWHAT understandable since he's at the risk of death if he doesn't get on well with the main heroines but idk It's just hard to really like him/root for his success since he's so nonchalant about everything/doesn't really seem to care about anything, 90% of his relationships feel so forced and fake/would break by a single one of his secrets unraveling if the heroines were realistic enough.

But yeah, if you're picking this up for anything aside from the h**ny stuff, I wouldn't recommend it highly unlike some other ones like 'eat the world tree', but it's serviceable as a okay generic academy novel with decent/consistent enough writing in between the other stuff.. <<less

Starts off pretty good I really like the overall concept. The main character willingly transmigrates into an all powerful barbarian that in pretty much every sense of the word is a god. Lives in the harsh snowy climate for hundreds of years because he couldn't leave and finally does. Then, it IMMEDIATELY spirals downhill to the depths of hell.

The whole elf chapter arc is the most braindead thing I've ever read, using every single OP protagonist misunderstanding trope to the extreme. He harmlessly arrives at an elf village he sees for the first time, sees a kid, they immediately faint upon seeing him (EVEN THOUGH HE'S LITERALLY JUST A TALL MUSCULAR HUMAN) but fine the kids a coward but it's nothing too insane yet. He picks the kid up and takes him to his family AND OF COURSE the 'peaceful' elves attack him with everything they got attempting to mu*der the protagonist no matter the cost, shooting arrows, then magic, then phoenixes and the highest ranking spirits or whatever the f*ck it was from THE f*ckING QUEEN OF ELVES. And the main character is just standing there, yelling, pleading that he brings no harm, none of the attacks work, the idiot elves cluelessly keep attacking until they run out options and after they calm down, they start listening and solve the misunderstanding less than a single second. AND OH MY f*ckING GOD I CLOSED THE TAB IMMEDIATELY. Like holy f*cking shit, if this is the f*cking queen of elves intelligence level they genuinely deserve to be hunted by the s*ave traders they were escaping from, imprisoning them would genuinely bring more peace to society, just attempting to kill a casual man peacefully strolling into their village even if they were suspicious of him, they should've attempted ANY kind of communication first, like if the protagonist was just a normal man he WOULD'VE been slaughtered in seconds, or if the protagonist had any kind of temper or backbone he would've been in the right for slaughtering the whole village as self defense, they just declared war at first sight... The whole sequence was genuinely so painful, I was in actual disbelief thinking that, maybe it won't get worse, but they just keep escalating and making it more and more ridiculous. f*ck THIS NOVEL, unless you're 12 years old I can't imagine a single sensible person actually unironically enjoying this, it's taking every single bad aspect of the misunderstanding genre of novels and making them worse with no meaning and any sight of thoughtful characters or plot. I'd be slightly more forgiving if this had the comedy tag, but apparently it's meant to actually be taken seriously.(at least as of writing this review it doesn't)

I read a few reviews, it seems that it just doesn't get any better so I don't regret ranting about it. If you like the genre, that's fine, but I was genuinely having a migraine the more I was reading it so I stopped to not hurt myself more. I'm only adding this because I wanted to complain about it somewhere.

I'm only giving it half a point because I did think the first 3 or 4 chapters were decently written and interesting enough to pull me in, otherwise it'd be a complete 0 <<less

Plot wise, If I had to guess, it's about the main characters journey to escape the world but everything about that adventure feels so unrelated to the rest of the novel, the main character just casually taking requests to cure baldness or whatever, finding secret items and whatnot. While more than half of the focus is on the stories about the heroines that became obsessed with him after the regression and it all just feels so disjointed and convoluted. The main character is trying his absolute best to sway everyone around him running away from any kind of real confrontation focusing on his own little adventure, in turn causing the heroines infatuated with him to drift more and more towards insanity because they, for no justifiable reason whatsoever, think he's the only person in their lives and the protagonist rejects them. It just doesn't feel good to read at all.

The relationships are just so contrived. In the first timeline of the main character trying to act like a 'villain' the heroines either hate him or drive him completely away. After his death all of them in the same format come realize how much they actually 'cared' for him basically falling unhinged levels of love(obsession) with him(though I don't think that's how actual relationships work) but after everyone's regression the mc goes rogue doing his absolute best to erase himself and trample on his relationships out of spite, not listening to any of the pleas of the heroines no matter how desperate/mentally unwell they seem begging for any sort of acknowledgement, and the heroines stubbornly do their best to chase after and bother him no matter how much the mc says to leave him alone, it's just super messy uncomfortable to read. 99% of the conflict in this novel would be solved if any of the characters knew how to communicate their feelings properly, not causing tiresome and pointless misunderstandings.

The characters are just straight up unlikeable, everyone's genuinely messed up in the head or a freak and needs real therapy, including the main character who is an as*hole densely ignoring all important things around him causing himself harm, the heroines in unrealistic amounts of love with him and being unreasonable pitiful a**holes, and nearly everyone around them encouraging their overdramatized behaviour being a**holes. The only character I honestly liked was the knight lady Diana or something and she's just an emotionless loyal knight because she doesn't talk much and becomes an irrelevant puppet after 3 initial chapters of introduction.

I wouldn't call this like completely awful, it does seem the author has some idea how to write sad stories(most likely from just copying from other great works like 'the main heroines are trying to kill me') but everything feels so disconnected without a clear intended goal or pacing and there being absolutely no interesting or enjoyable moments to make us actually care about the important characters or root for them outside of the brief glimpses we see of their inner thoughts.. Not really my style but I can sort of see some of the appeal If you're really into these toxic kinds of 'tragic' novels. <<less

The world, the characters, the system is quite generic and feels very much like a lazy powerfantasy, especially with the DLC shop that's like the main selling point setting it apart in the synopsis, but it's just a mcguffin that constantly gives absurdly op and convenient items whenever needed for the plot. The outline of the story isn't the most captivating/unique but is fun enough since the tense moments are well emphasized.

The main characters are a bit dull, mostly the main character and the main heroine constantly around him that just have no good chemistry/good dialogue together. The main character is very much a random dude that's experienced in gaming and uses unconventional ways to beat stages and stuff, but overall his personality isn't that great, I can't tell a single thing he actually likes aside from gaming in his early days, but pretty much the only thing he cares about now is beating this survival game by using every tool at his disposal, even people, and not much else.. The main heroine that's constantly sticking around him, although has a somewhat interesting personality at the beginning, she kind of abandons it very early on to become a nearly emotionless yandere chick that defends the mc whenever even lightly insulted, not that interesting in my opinion, but she has her moments. My favorite character was the brattish girl Mina or Minah(not sure which is correct since the translation alternates constantly) that had a funny personality, good backstory and interesting shapeshifting powers and actually great interactions with the protagonist, but she's not that relevant to the main plot unfortunately. But overall everything is serviceable and doesn't impede on the flow of the story in any major way.

The biggest thing holding it back however is just the bad translation that's most likely just ai generated and not proofread a single time. I've already complained plenty about it in my 'The Extra’s Academy Survival Guide' review(the same translator is behind this novel) and this has many of the same issues so I won't pointlessly focus on it again.

But even with the best translation I'd say at best it's a 3.5/5 for at least how far I managed to get to before dropping because of the frustrating tl... <<less

The action is pretty good, plenty of cool and badass moments and set pieces. The story is straightforward and linear, just beat up cool monsters/people and get skills to become stronger. The pacing can be pretty slow, the author does kind of ramble pointless facts about the world/system whenever possible, even in the middle of combat that don't matter at all..

The characters are decently written and interesting, but they're not explored enough to capitalize on their greatness. The main character is a loner and avoids any deep social interactions making it difficult to really express care for the other cool side characters, although this can be seen as a plus if you're not looking for that type of content, I definitely think this would've elevated this novel past it's current niche level. The way it lazily tries to bait some sort of 'romance' or 'harem' implications just feels tiresome when you fully know it's not going to go anywhere, typical shounen genre crap...

The system is frustrating, at first glance it seems decent and in the first chapters it seems interesting, but the further you get you get the sense that the author absolutely didn't plan those aspects out. The stats are never properly explained, we're left confused as the mc's stat increases 20 times more than his original and he's barely at the level of an athlete for some reason, like was the mc made out of paper before? What does a single allocated point actually mean for a person is never explained so when the protagonist gets an item that casually boosts his strength or whatever to double or triple or quadruple of what it was prior just feels pointless and unsatisfying. The main characters illness is confusing and also never elaborated on, he just for some reason gets infinite mana, but his body sometimes hurts I guess.. The skills are somewhat cool, but kind of get more and more meaningless the further you get, they get more niche, and main character keeps forgetting about the old ones after a single use. Constellations seemed cool but also kind of devolve just to giving the main character whatever he needs at the moment, one time he steals a constellation from a random street gangster, it's only purpose is to specifically buff OTHER constellations and it came from a person that didn't have a single other constellation.... Like it couldn't be more obvious that it was extremely lazily designed specifically to justify the mc's underdog strength for some reason... The leveling also feels painfully slow/not thought out at all, the main character is always fighting monsters/people twice and even ten times his level, but he barely gets any exp from it, it's only a thing the main character is capable of doing because he's got so many skills, other people are apparently able to only barely fight monsters the same level as themselves, and the fact that the majority of minor villains are in the hundred level area and the main character is barely making it past level 50 after beating hundreds of monsters past level 100 really makes you doubt how such weaklings made it to that level in the first place if it takes so long and so much effort, I'd assume the main character gets some sort of exp debuff because his original plundering constellation is so strong or something, but it's literally never mentioned so I'm left clueless, the mc even gets XP BUFFS but they don't feel impactful at all, in fact his progression feels slower after getting them.

But yeah. overall it's good enough but there are many disappointing aspects that easily could've been solved if the author really cared/put any effort into building his world instead of adding random systems and terms to create the illusion of depth. Not something I'd continuously read but I had an enjoyable time nevertheless. The translation is good at least. <<less

  @Chikyuu Sorry for the late reply but yeah, some of my ratings are perhaps inaccurate/outdated as of now since translators change, issues are fixed or made worse etc. which is unfortunate but all my reviews and score is based on my experience and subjective opinion. After I add something I rarely touch it again, this has been a personal project of mine for a couple years now and after all I forget stuff/lose interest/move on, but I'm glad you liked the list and thank you for the reply, it means a lot!

  Thank you for the compliment! I haven't read much lately because I wasn't able to find new novels to read so I've been taking a break so in the meantime the content piles up more, I don't really control how many chapters a novel gets translated for so I just add stuff that seems promising and I enjoyed reading even if it was short.
