Chen Ge is pretty obviously mentally ill, but that makes his relationship to all his ghosties even better (who are equally as mentally ill lmao). it’s a surprisingly heartfelt combination. 

main flaws are the pretty predictable structure (the uniqueness of the arcs makes up for it), repetitiveness & the humans. im not a fan of how they’re written.

i found Juho’s fear of failure such a relatable thing. the anxieties of not being good enough or being forgotten in the rivers of time are all things everyone feels at least once.

i also loved how Juho could “see” his characters and “speak” to them. those chapters were so unique, and it was great for seeing Juho’s creative process.

tbh, i think it kinda fumbled the last 100 or so chapters. i loved Kelley Coin and that director dude as much as the next guy, but i hated how they became the main side characters. the colorful cast from Korea were all thrown in the background. i missed Sang tt

and the world-building is wonderful. i definitely didn’t expect this novel to have such a vast and interesting world, but im not complaining lol

this story has the staple “thirsting over hot women” descriptions but it bothers me even more than usual because of how good this novel is. it just feels very out of place when the narrator starts going in detail about a woman’s curves or long legs or whatever. it doesn’t happen too frequently though.

very funny the first few times, but soon grows boring. i got so bored that i gave up reading, and from the spoilers i saw, it doesn’t look like it gets better in the future.

i wish they leaned more into Pei Qian’s personal life. i loved the glimpses into his college or family relationships, but it’s almost never in the story.

this is a solid slice-of-life novel to read while pacing yourself. maybe read a hundred chapters while reading something else concurrently? this is still a pretty fun novel though <<less

i love the author’s take on omniscience, it’s very complicated. Huang Ji has access to the information, but that doesn’t mean he understands it. he still has to make an effort. 

seeing Huang  Ji’s internal thoughts vs how people perceive him is probably my favorite part of the novel. it makes for some really sad or funny moments.

lots of silly misunderstandings, but also a pinch of a darker understory. the darker bits are done really well. it makes for this uncomfortable experience while reading (which is a good thing btw)

main flaw is the ending. the author spent like 50 chapters writing abt a bday party, so there was only like 20 chapters left to wrap up the story. weird choice.

this one’s a staple misunderstanding genre. it has a lot of info-drops, but if you can get past that, you will enjoy this one a lot! <<less

Lloyd is definitely one of my favorite main characters. he’s a money-grubbing, selfish jerk, but also a pretty stand up guy. it’s always fun reading about him

the comedy is really well done, which is evident from how i chuckled even though every sentence was full of really broken and confusing English

there’s also illustrations every chapter, which is genuinely awesome

10/10! totes recommend, praying for a proper translation in the future so a re-read would be less brain damaging <<less
