On most occasions, I tend to read 1/3~ of a novel to get a feel of things. These are [completed] some personal favorites and some to pass time. A small summary of the novel which may contain spoilers!
I started out with Wuxia and explored other genre like Xianxia and Xianhuan. Not a ranking list btw ^^;;
Jin Yong, Gu Long, Liang Yusheng... etc, all great.

A shame that this novel never gets translated through. I was thoroughly impressed by how much details involved. The world is fantastic. Lots of space/time traveling, pass/present, all linked together, which makes it unique amongst novels I read. I read the remaining half using MTL, so it is not as accurate. It started out great, lots of potential, then it's all war-fare. MC usually is on a ship or on an island, with alot of dudes. If you like military, war, this is for you. Should be considered political as a tag too. Disappointing towards the middle and end. Seems like author forget characters, or some does not serve any purpose, other than starting out. And then there's this hyped up antagonist that supposedly for the MC to defeat, because throughout the novel, he has always been at odds with the MC. But towards the end, it was futile, he gave up just like that.... more>>

Age, time, space, the author needs to calm down with the numbers. One blink and 100m years passed. Literally. IET can't write romance, and it's not romance focus, so that's OK. Read this if you love tragedy. If you like to work so hard for something you cannot achieve. Self hate, self torture, unfulfillment, to read 260 chapters for nothing. But other than that, I guess you can reflect on how the MC grow as a person-ish? Have you read Little Li's Flying Dagger? Li Xunhuan and this MC can be best buddies. They can sulk all day about love they will never be able to get. Maybe the author focused so much on how emotionally damaged the MC is that everything else is subpar. Not sure what the author was trying to do with the character, or development therefore. I was bribed by the high rating. MC is the shameless type, like Meng Hao and all that. Some small philosophy here and there, comedic, brotherhood. Whoops, hadn't been on for a while to check comments. A Step Into The Past is definitely somewhat emotional if you're invested into the character (not in a Clannad way), it can be comedic too. The ending is bittersweet, sort-of. It was one of my first few novels, I liked it.
Joy of Life is not romance focus so if you have intention of reading it for that then you might want to reconsidered. MC has love interests here and there, but it's more of playfully flirting, and their interactions are funny. His main love interests aren't damsel in distress so that's a big plus. It's political, but enjoyable IMO. He is involved with court officials so there's no helping it.
