4.70/5!!! [Game Elements, Historical, Romance, Slice of Life] Oh boy. I avoided this novel for the longest time because of that cover page lolol. I didn't even read its summary till now! Fortunately, I was feeling bored yesterday and decided to read the first novel that caught my eye, and this novel just so happened to be it! The premise of this novel is a bit... well. *thinking-face* I guess it's "Virtual 'Cub' Raising turns to Virtual Romance LOL. The FL has been an unlucky person all of her life. One day, she sees an advertisement enticing her to play an app where the main task is to raise a 14yo 'son of a concubine'... more>> (the ML) into the Emperor. Their point of contact is strictly on the app, but with this app, the FL is able to physically affect the ML's living conditions. At first, she treated it as a game, but soon enough, the realism of the protagonist's reactions and the broadness of the world beyond the screen make her realize that things are a lot more complicated than it initially appeared.

I definitely recommend reading this if you're looking for a lighthearted novel to spend a bit of time on. The premise, to me, was quite novel! I know that there are some other stories with a similar concept, but this novel was the first of its kind that I read, so the experience was super exciting in my eyes. One can say that the novel itself is a bit cliche at times, and I do admit that certain things were quite simplified (this story could have been more detailed and muuuuuch longer -- there were lots of things that kind of just got forgotten about after a while), I still ended up liking it! Be aware that the end is a bit rushed, but don't worry, the romance was very detailed. So, if romance and sweetness is what you're looking for, you won't be missing out on anything. The author did a good job tying the loose ends as well!

OH, by the way, the TL that's linked is unfinished, but I found an edited MTL one (90% readable) that's complete. So, if you're hesitating because you don't want to start while the TL is complete, just go look for that one! I ended up reading it off an aggregator site cause I couldn't find the OG source, so I can't share a link!

Though the novel can't be said to be perfect, I think it's very close to that depending on what you're looking for. That is, if what you're looking for is a simple romance with a unique concept, then it's definitely one to try out! Otherwise, the shortcomings with the worldbuilding, consistency, and plot development may hamper your interest somewhat -- so, it all depends on what kind of novel you like! For me, it was a particularly great experience, but I recognize that there were some things that could have been better. It's definitely one of my favorite G/B novels thus far though. <<less

So, after falling asleep in the middle of reading it, I ended up dropping it the next day. Just as promised though, I reread it once my mood was right and enjoyed it immensely!SUMMARY: The FL is a modern woman who transmigrated into the body of an imperial concubine. The imperial concubine is beautiful, but not the most beautiful. She was also not very talented. However, the emperor did give her some favor in the beginning. It was only because she was too arrogant that she ended up dying and being switched with the FL. Perhaps, if it were anyone else in the FL's position (at least if it was a typical heroine lol), they would have rushed to fall in love with the Emperor. But the FL of this novel is very realistic. She knows that there are only two endings waiting for her. Either she earns the favor of the emperor or she becomes a forgotten concubine bullied by everyone in the palace. Wanting live a comfortable life, she picks the former, and starts to treat her current situation as a job. THOUGHTS? When most people read novels, it's often with an escapist mentality. A happy ending, a great romance for the ages, etc. If a story doesn't have both of those things, it becomes a bit unconventional. That's the case for this piece. It's not something that I would easily recommend, no matter how much I liked it! Mainly because this is the kind of literary work that's easier to enjoy when one knows what to expect from it. The first time I read it, I really wasn't prepared for the novel to be like this, so I ended up dropping it despite knowing that it had great potential. Anyway... definitely read this if you have the chance! Just remember that this is not your normal work. It's better to know what's in store. After having suffered for so long only to get a bad end, she greets her rebirth with great cynicism. She wants to bring down all the people that wronged her and destroy their paths just like they did to her. As the daughter of military lineage whose power is expected to be whisked away in the future, she can only rely on small schemes to get her revenge. Fortunately, later on down the line, when things get too big, she gets the help of the ML (Xie Jing Xing). Their start is not... more>> the best with the two being so guarded, but eventually, they wear each other down.

This is not your usual romance novel. For one thing, the FL is incredibly black bellied. She later very cruel, and the FL is equally so. Another thing is that the romance is very slow. The main couple have lots of things to work out! But anyway — I digress. I can see now why this novel has such a high rating. The unique characters and their development made for a very satisfying read. The pacing is great too. I wouldn’t say that it’s perfect (the author has a tendency towards redundancy), but it’s 100% worth the time invested!

Highly recommended if you’re into face-slapping and black-bellied protagonists. The FL is, as mentioned, not your usual and is really cold. To the point of being a bit dull in the beginning, but there’s a reason for everything and I admire the fact that the author stuck to her character setting for her, it made it more satisfying to see her grow out of the shell she made for herself after her past life.

Warning: Of course, a warning is in order! For one the FL is underage at the start of their relationship. For another, there are some pretty heavy allusions to r*pe, so it is best to stay away if that is a trigger for you.

There are some little things that could have used some work but they’re mostly small finicky stuff. Otherwise, the novel is really good and highly recommended! OH- and- The translation is a bit difficult to read at first, and it’s not the cleanest, but after a while you get used to it! A lot of people quit because of the translation but I say give it a chance anyway. The TL-ers also prepared lots of guides and stuff so that you can know who’s who in the beginning. <<less

I saw a reviewer question why people seem to like it so much despite the annoying characterizations and the dumb decisions the main characters make at times. In this way, I can see their point, but also can say confidently that the reason why the story is so likeable is also for those two reasons! It’s hard to explain, so let me summarize the novel’s premise first:... more>>

The FL is a transmigrator who ended up dropping into a cannon fodder character role that has a very low life expectancy rate. That doesn’t matter very much though. The main focus here is that the novel she ended up in was an apocalyptic one where zombies ran rampant and humans had no choice but to gather together in bases and struggle constantly to survive (no special abilities here, unlike most CN zombie apocalypse novels). Knowing how horrible life will be in this novel, the FL decides to set up a private base for herself and decides to just live freely for as long as possible. She has no intention of making it to the end, she just wants to live comfortably until it was her time. Of course, before her plan is seen through the end, the ML comes knocking down her defenses and the two cohabitate from then on — surviving the tragic end times together.

What makes this story likeable is that the characters grow throughout the story. From the start, to the end, you can see how the FL and ML change little by little. It makes it easy to care about what’s going on in their lives, and it’s hard not to feel distressed when bad things happen. Furthermore, this isn’t one of those self-indulgent novels where the characters always do the right thing. They make mistakes again and again, like normal people. But by learning and slowly growing up, they overcome their weaknesses and grow into a different, healthier version of themselves.

ALL IN ALL... This is definitely a favorite for me! It’s a bit tragic and sometimes the pacing is slow, so I skimmed a bit. But the great characters, the sweet romantic development, and even the setting — which you may think would be dry compared to more exciting CN Zombie Apocalypse novels — is rich in details. Plot is a bit grim some times, but the author never fails to liven up the atmosphere in their own way, which is a great contrast to the darkness of the novel. [As for other considerations! The TL is good quality and the MTL is surprisingly readable — like about 85-90% — so even if the TL isn’t done, it can be read with no issues!]

RATING: 4.65/5Although I think I may not have liked this as much if I wasn’t in the mood for this kind of deep and complex development, the fact of the matter is that I really enjoyed this particular read! So, my opinion of the novel is quite high despite whatever shortcomings it may have! Definitely recommended~ Won’t be forgetting the characters anytime soon. She ends up in the body... more>> of a young woman called Nie Sangyu. Nie Sangyu was once the official wife of the Marquis Moyu. However, because she lacked the virtues of a an official wife of that era, she was directly demoted into becoming an ordinary concubine and replaced by the Marquis' new love (who is the heroine of the original novel). The transmigrator enters the play just when she had lost the Marquis' favor. At first, she has no intention of fighting for the Marquis's favor, but in the end, in order to get back to the modern world, she has to fulfill Nie Sangyu's wish, which she suspects is to earn the love of the Marquis. This is just the basic premise of the novel. It's the 'start' you can say. But, in truth, this is a very sprawling kind of text. The romance is not the focus, it's more to show the inter-relationship of the people of those times. From the drama in the inner court (the harem), to the political intrigue in the fight to the imperial throne. It's quite deep! General Thoughts: If you want to read this novel, I suggest that you don't read it with the expectation of a romance XD. It's true, there is eventual development between the FL and the ML (who is the Marquis Moyu, just in case that wasn't clear. I was confused at first when it came to this xD). At first, it seems impossible, but the author does a great job building their relationship in a realistic way despite the fact, which I really appreciate! Of course, my favorite part of this novel are the complex characters. If you like that kind of thing, then this is the story to look for it.The setting too was pretty interesting. It's not like your typical ancient times drama. Here, the ML is a typical man of the times. He's chauvinistic and constantly thirsting for power. So, of course, the FL doesn't really have free reign. The first arc of the overall plot focuses mainly on harem dynamics, extreme harem dynamics at that. Things get messy, but the author never failed to give the characters a reason for what they do.As for the TL, it's pretty good! The quality slips a little every now and then. But it's the completely harmless kind --- usually, it's just a couple of misspelled words. I found the little reminder notes very helpful too! Rating: 4.55/5At first, I was really hesitant to read this. The summary was too vague and it seemed like it was spelling trouble and tragedy. I expected to this to be a sado-masochistic kind of dog-blood drama and wanted to avoid the pain and frustration. And, well, that expectation wasn't completely wrong. BUT, it ended up more than that. It's hard to explain because so many things happen. SUMMARY: The FL, Su Ruan, was a nondescript character of a romance novel. To be exact, she was a character of the previous generation (the mother of the protagonist). After a Transmigrator entered into their world, intending to take the FL's place as the mother of the heroine, the FL's entire life trajectory was shifted. She married Huo Xiangyang, who was deemed the richest man of their Dongling County, and supposedly lived a happy and prosperous life from then on, being pampered and doted on by her loyal husband despite never having given birth to any children.

No one knew that this was a facade and that the FL had actually suffered greatly to keep up appearances. And, in the end, because of overwork, she got terminally Ill and died early, leading her to be reborn. The story begins at this moment. She's back several decades into the past. She hasn't married her "Gentle Scum" husband, and she was young and had her entire life ahead of her. The transmigrator that ruined her life just so happened to be reborn too, but with the help of the ML (Lu Mingchen), the FL manages to find her way back to her true happy ending.

THOUGHTS: I read some of the reviews, and I don't see the problems they said at all. I think they forgot that this was based in the early 1990s. China had opened up thanks to the reforms in the 1970s, but the people still hadn't completely adjusted. I think the author did a good job with this actually, they showed the way the era had slowly begun to change, while also giving examples of how some things refused to change despite the times. People can dislike these things because they are truly detestable, but it doesn't mean the story is bad because it writes about it. It's not like the author beautified it, after all.

ANYWAY, enough of that rant! My favorite aspect of this story is the characters. For the most part, Romance CN novels have always been very horrible with character development XD. That's not the case here, the FL and ML both have their time, and it makes the relatively messy overarching plot more satisfying to read. After all, if the reader doesn't care about the character driving the story, it isn't easy to garner interest in what actually happens to them. Here, that's not the case. Even the most mundane things become interesting because all the characters are practically jumping off the page. As for other things… Romance is great! XD. I love banter in couples. Here, the main CP have true chemistry, and the side couples are also not completely forgotten in terms of development. I've already said that the setting is surprisingly good. I'm not sure how realistic it is, but it's certainly detailed! As for the plot, well, that's a little bit iffy XD. But it kept me interested the entire time, so I think that says it all.

OVERALL, definitely worth reading. The MTL is pretty okay, 75% readable, and at least the names are pretty clear (if you want to be able to understand it better, read the Google Translate version, and remember that Deer=Lu LOL.) As for the rating, I'm directly giving this a 4.5/5! That's right, it's enough to round up to 5 stars~~~ That's pretty high for me actually! I've only given a handful of BG novels above 4.5. <<less

The FL is a very calculating kind of person. One may describe her as cold, but that's not really the case. She's just very practical. She doesn't think of herself as a protagonist from the very beginning and has no strong ambitions. She just wants to live the best life she can have within the limits of her current identity. That meant straightening up the ML's concubines, pleasing her mother-in-law, and, of course, attracting the attention of her new husband.I like that the heroine doesn't hesitate when it comes to pursuing her goals. Her personality may seem bland in other romance novels, but in this one, it ended up working out just right. From the very beginning, she knew what she wanted and how to get it. There was almost no tension in that regard. My desire to keep reading was focused mainly on the development of the other characters. For example, there's the slow evolution of the ML from a cold husband that favored many, to a henpecked husband who wanted to stay with his wife forever XD. None of the minor characters get short-changed either. Each of them undergo a change of some sort throughout the story (some more intense than others). I really liked this! And I'm now eager to read more of the author's other stories to experience more of it hehe. TL: As for the TL quality, the TL is not the cleanest and not the easiest to read, but its readable with a bit of patience. A lot of the terms are left untranslated, and I almost wanted to give up on reading it several times XD. BUT, because I had read another one of the author's works previously, I decided to just grit my teeth. I don't regret it, even if it was a pain at first. (My advice is to have the chapter open on the TL notes on your computer while you read on your phone. That's how I did it, anyway).Rating: 4.5/5This novel is probably not for just anyone. No, that's a bit wrong. I guess I should say that this novel is better read when you're in the mood for this kind of novel. For example, if you're expecting the usual fast-food romance and face-slapping, then this is not the novel for you. Never mind the amount of patience required because of the TL, there's also the matter of the plot of the novel itself. I didn't think it was boring at all, but if you come into it expecting something, it's likely you'll dislike it. So yeah! ALL in all, I think it's a great read. Her long-lost husband was a talented cultivator that had lost his way in the mortal realm -- the original owner had saved him, so the two got married. Of course, things are not so simple. After moving to the cultivation realm, she experiences trial after trial -- making her firmly believe that it would be better to return to being a simple 70-year-old grandmother in the mortal world. Unfortunately, fate has other plans for her. She gets involved in a lot of messy things and is unable to leave. But well, she gains the power to body swap, makes some friends, as well as some enemies; and, of course, meets the ML (NOT her husband btw. The ML is someone else). ________________THOUGHTS -- A favorite! It's a very unique story XD. TBH, if it she hadn't started out as an old woman, perhaps I wouldn't like it so much. But the fact is, she did. And the author did a great job highlighting how that affected her growth in the cultivation world -- providing a very unique experience that made the more 'normal' things stand out and have meaning. Actually, in general, the author had great characters. They're all very memorable, with clear likes and dislikes, just like real people. It's hard not to love them. So I was able to read till the end without ever feeling like it was a chore. Of course, I also think that the length of the story was just right. Perhaps I'm a bit greedy for a few more EXTRAs lol, but overall, the experience felt very complete. I don't have any regrets! For that reason alone, I think this novel is worth 4.5/5 stars. And I've not even mentioned the great worldbuilding (amongst other advantages). The author had a way of introducing new world elements that didn't seem obtrusive. Like, it was always meant to be there.  <<less

She prepares for the worst immediately, assuming that it was some kind of pre-apocalyptic warning. It turns out different though. She ends up transmigrating into a novel as a cannon fodder. More specifically, the canon fodder mother of the three villains of the novel. At the time she transmigrated, these villains were still young 5-3-1! The villain husband was also still in the army, although he was set to come back due to an injury. In any case, she... more>> has no choice butto keep moving forward. Which she handles pretty well!This novel is very slow-paced and it’s all about life in 1960s China. Idk how accurate it is but the detail is great! Despite being a BG novel I never felt annoyed by her. She isn’t some Mary Sue. She does have a cheat but she uses it well and it doesn’t make her overly powerful, just rich LOLOL. As a poor-to-rich novel, it gets top marks from me. I only stopped reading cause the side-character family drama became a bit too boring and I felt that the main CP had already gotten their HEA. I’m content with what I’ve read already. And will definitely not hesitate to read it in the future.

This slice of novel is quite good~ Definitely a favorite for me (hence why I gave it a five star rating despite my actual rating not quite adding up to five). It was also the first novel I read about the Chinese Reformation Era, so I have good feels about it! Of course, it might not be for everyone. It’s especially slow paced and the ups and downs are based on family drama and such. That’s not to say that this novel is all about face-slapping like other similar novels. More about the effects of the era on the people at the time and how vastly different their lives are to our generation. <<less

[Reincarnation, Historical, Drama, Slice of Life] “Rebirth” novel where the FL wakes up one day with memories of her previous life and beyond that, knowledge that it was a life where—according to outsiderP POV—she played as the villainous side character to her younger twin sister and her Marquis husband. In her pst life, she married the Marquis and ended up being ruined after he discovered that she wasn’t his white moonlight. In this life, with her and her twin gaining memories of their other life, the engagement is broken and the FL has to suffer through life being the ‘abandoned’ woman. Fortunately, thanks to her broken engagement, she ends up meeting her mysterious 9th... more>> uncle (the ML), Cheng Yuanjing.

The FL is different from most generic female leads these days because she embodies both traditional and modern values. Stuck in ancient times, she only has one career path to work towards—becoming a wife—and as a genuine perfectionist, she’s more than willing to put in the work to get what she wants. Overall, the characters in novel are very praiseworthy! The author kept their personalities and motivations consistent, which allowed the novel to feel a little more real. In this way, I think the novel is best suited for a mature audience. Especially since the romance is less ‘endless passion’ and more about steadiness.

As for the setting and the plot, the author takes their time introducing this Historical period, focusing mainly on family traditions at the time and how it affects the people in said family. There’s also the Royal intrigue, of course, but that comes later.

CW: Much like most historical novels like this, the reborn FL—while mentally older—starts of physically 14 and gets married when she’s 16.

I like the unique perspective the most, I think. It’s rare to see this kind of FL, and with the author’s skilled handling of their characters, it made everything even more interesting — the characters were practically jumping off the page! 4.3/5!!! [World-Hopping, Apocalypse: Beasts, Cultivation Elements, Survival] Great novel! The FL is non-typical, and there's a clear character development script. Well, it can't be said that the FL really changes, but she undergoes a comprehensive character evolution of sorts, which is very rare in CN novels (though, I noticed, not as rare in stories that are 60-100 chapters long like this one LMFAO). Paired with the provoking complex characters is a relatively unique take on the apocalypse (this is not a Zombie Apocalypse, but a beast-related Apocalypse where most of the animals on Earth have mutated and become supernaturals while the humans are forced to hide away in their bases.) The story is short, but... more>> the plot is very satisfying and the worldbuilding is relatively comprehensive. SO, the novel really deserves its high rating!

__________SUMMARY: The FL, Gu Fan, is a low-level cultivator with no determinable talent. However, after falling into an Apocalyptic Earth where there are dangers everywhere, her lackluster five-spiritual roots and her low-level alchemical talent become the beacon of hope for all humans. The heroine of this novel is not your typical heroine, she's not a virg*n mary. Far from it! She's very selfish and self-preserving. Also, she's very self-aware of her capabilities. In this way, her preference for hiding behind strong backers is really unsuitable on a planet where there's a strong sense of collective consciousness. It's thanks to the ML (Lu Ya), that she gets pushed out of her comfort zone and refines her own character.

THOUGHTS: I think I already said it all in the introduction LMFAO. But, let me say a bit more! This novel is surprisingly pretty good. It's a bit short and the romance can't be said to be overwhelmingly amazing (though it's still pretty cute), but there's no denying that it feels complete. To provide a comparison for reference, I read a novel with super-fast pacing just yesterday, where everything seems like it's happening in a blink of an eye. This novel is different. Although the story is very short (in my opinion), it feels very long because of the author's handling of pacing and plot development. ANYWAY, all in all, highly recommended! The MTL is also pretty readable (though some names are messed up, as per usual, the readability is still around 75%.)

It might not be for everyone, and there are... more>> some messy areas, but for the most part, I thought that the read was pretty satisfying.Summary: The FL, Mu Mingtang, was someone that had been picked up on the street by the Jiang Family in order to act as the substitute for their runaway daughter. Everything was going pretty well for a while, she had fully immersed herself in the act. However, through some twist of fate, the runaway daughter of the Jiang's came back out of nowhere (in fact, she was reborn and wanted to correct her past). Distasteful of the fact that the FL had taken her place, the runaway daughter decided to push the FL down a pit. The pit being the comatosed ML, King Qiyang, Xie Xuanchen --- who is widely acknowledged as a monster by everyone in the capital. Of course, things are not as simple as they appear. And soon enough, despite the many limitations placed upon them, the FL and ML create a happy road for themselves.Recommended! My favorite aspect of this story is definitely the development of the romance between the FL and ML. It's the main focus so perhaps that should be expected lolol. It's a bit cheesy at times, but I thought that their journey was pretty interesting. At least, its a little better than the shallower BG novels out there where the ML and FL falls in love inexplicably. Here, there's an obvious progression in their feelings, which is extremely satisfying! Of course, there are other things you might be looking forward to. Like the royal court intrigue or the face-slapping drama between the FL and the reborn!real-daughter of the Jiangs. But, those really are secondary in this novel. ALL IN ALL, my impression of this novel is pretty positive. I don't have anything to complain about. The TL was not the cleanest but it was readable, and the MTL was okay too (around 75% readable). So yeah! Definitely worth checking out. As for the rating, I think this deserves at least a 4.25/5. Not quite ready to round it up to five stars, but its a lot better than most of the other BG novels I've read.  <<less

I was a little leery about reading this novel at first, but I ended up liking it a lot! The FL is the chill kind that lacks ambition, while the ML is the stoic tsundere type. I liked the FL's optimism in the beginning, she was excited to have a good husband (as the ML had been described to be), but upon finding out that the ML isn't all that, she still found a silver lining all by herself. There were times when their choices were a bit s*upid, not gonna lie LOL. They kept putting themselves into danger for nothing!! But the face-slapping was satisfying and the cannon fodders/s*um villains more realistic than most (except for the main villain—the OG!ML—who was a bit overdone). Lastly, as for the TL, it's very well done! I enjoyed the read and will definitely come back to reread it someday.  <<less

ANYWAY, not wanting to become the real daughter’s punching bag, the FL decides to split and live with her biological family (of which only her younger siblings are left). Along the way, she encounters the ML (Wen Rugui) time and again — purposefully, as the ML has facial blindness that doesn’t work on MC.

As mentioned, this novel is set in the 70s, but it’s a little different from the ones I’ve read previously. Mostly due to the focus being on urban living rather than rural living (lots of similar novels start in a village, but this one has them smack down in the Capital City, offering a different perspective of the times).

_________THOUGHTS: Actually, the author makes a lot of bold moves. Especially with the main characters. The FL is not the shy and stubborn idiot that you see almost everywhere else. She’s pretty shameless and doesn’t hesitate to get what she wants. In contrast, the ML is portrayed as soft and shy. I love this aspect of the novel most, since the two characters are shown to interact quite a bit. Well, ACTUALLY, most of the important characters here are a lot of fun and quite memorable (not including the cannon fodders and villains, of course. They’re pretty wretched in this story). I recommend reading this for the great interactions between the characters as well as the unique era perspective. It’s a bit dramatic sometimes, there’s always something happening and things become w but overly ridiculous every now and then. But overall, it’s fluffy, sweet, and very satisfying to read. Oh, the MTL is 70-75% readable. The names are fine, some slang doesn’t translate correctly though. And the banter doesn’t always come across right (I’m looking forward to rereading this when the TL is completed!) As for the rating... this novel deserves 4 stars! At least 4.25/5. <<less

These kinds of things just so happened to be just my type, so I ended up enjoying this both during my first read and during my second read (which is now! I left the old review at the end for reference).SUMMARY: Yu Xiaocao woke up one day and found out that she had transmigrated into the body of a fisherman's daughter in ancient times. This little girl's father was extremely filial, and as a result, had been used and ab*sed by his stepmother for most of his life, leading to a rather pitiful life for him and his branch of the family. Yu Xiaocao, the transmigrator, was the hardworking type who supported her family by working constantly in her previous life. So, even now, after ending up as an 8-year-old girl with no backing, she dares to dream of a better future for her current family. Fortunately for her, she transmigrated with a golden finger -- a divine stone that can produce water that can help ripen the growth of crops, increase intelligence in animals, promote better health, etc. -- which allows her to smoothly build a legendary life for herself, her family, and later, her husband (the ML, Zhu Junyang, who was plagued by inner demons since he was a child.)THOUGHTS: To be perfectly honest, this novel has quite a few flaws. It also introduced so many events and so many characters that many were forgotten until the end -- while I understand that the reason for this is to increase the pacing and allow the story to keep moving forward, it's a shame at times when certain interesting concepts would be introduced and quickly forgotten -- it would be best if they just weren't mentioned in the first place LMFAO.But, well, these many flaws aside, taking account of my own personal enjoyment. I still rate this novel quite highly. Last time I read this, I stopped at around the 500s. This time, I persisted and read till the end, but I agree with most reviewers that it got a bit boring and repetitive by that point. What I recommend you read this for are the characters and the satisfying self-indulgent plot development. Here, one can say that the FL is definitely super OP. However, because of her personality, she never comes off as a complete Mary Sue. There are hints, for sure, but for the most part, because the author did a great job building her character in the beginning, she ended up being rather likable -- which made it easy to enjoy the story as it went.OH. BTW. If you're looking to read this for romance, I don't recommend it. Although I loved the bickering couple, it takes a while for them to get there (the age gap is quite large, and they don't marry till she's of legal age). This has a lot of scheming, but not usually the darker kind cause the character being played is so young. Most of her “opponents” are her older brothers and sisters. The FL is forced to increase favorability from them to lead w more comfortable life in the fraught-with-dangers imperial harem.

Overall, the tone is very light and comedic — it has certain dark moments, usually think end well and are handle cleanly. Romance wise, I do like that the author built up their chemistry but the ending was a bit depressing cause are there were definitely a lot of loose ends.

I've been having trouble finishing novels recently because I have to... more>> take a break midway in order to write, but this novel is so low-tension that it can be read without any fuss! It is, as stated in the title, a limitless survival game. The FL and the ML are both participants of a large scale virtual survival game. There are expected to be more than ten different instances, each a little bit different, where the main goal is to survive for 10-20 days (the players who survive longest will of course be rewarded). I think this may be the predecessor of the BL novel "Card Room" (since that was released in 2019 and this one was 2018), but only in that first instance was very familiar. Anyway, that boosted my interest in the novel quite a bit, and I ended up reading it till the end in the process. I checked earlier, and the novel wrote another novel that I liked "Apocalypse Lord" but I ended up preferring this one because the characters are more lively and the plot a lot less repetitive. Apocalypse Lord is fun if you're interested in the 'hoarding' aspect, but outside of that? There's not much substance. Here, the characters are relatable and there are different situations to keep things interesting. Overall, definitely worth the read! I won't be writing a full review because I read most of the novel in MTL and it would be a biased to rate it on a potentially biased perspective. But, I will give a rating since I finished it! That rating, based on the character development, setting, romance, and plot, is ... 4.1/5 Stars! It's more about action and adventure. I also distinctly remember that "Apocalypse Lord" didn't pay very close attention to the development of characters or romance plots. The same goes here, but it's a little more involved?? At least, that one, it was very much about the game. While this one, despite not being too deep regarding character and romance development, there's at least a little there to keep you interested on the main characters.ANYWAY, similarities to other novels aside. I quite liked this read! It gets a bit … twisty??? At the end, but it's still a fun read altogether. It's very satisfying to see the FL build a city from the ground-up. Of course, she has lots of resources beforehand, so there's not much tension. But that's also a good thing in its own way. At least, it's relaxing rather than anxiety inducing (if you want something more high tension, this is definitely not what you should be looking at. The FL passed through with her game backpack, so she could be said to be very powerful in this new environment. But she's not the only player who did so. Plus, there are all the other humans that had been thrown in. Everyone wants to survive. The Lindong Players are the breakthrough point for most development, they have the resources to build cities in this new game world and lead others to win. Though, of course, things are a lot more complicated than that.(As for the ML, his name is Shen Junfeng. He's one of the first players that the FL will meet. Its a very slow-paced thorough and highly character-driven. So not much happen externally, but the characters are always dealing with external conflicts (the FL is an optimistic person who just wants to live a peaceful life but is fraught with constant worries while the ML is someone with deep psychological shadows extreme ancient t and insecurities). I see a lot of reviewers who don’t appreciate the ups and downs of these two’s developing relationship—because of constant misunderstandings caused by lack of communication—but as long as you’re forewarned about it, it isn’t so bad!

I ended ups topping in the end because the TL is unfinished and the MTL is only 65-70% readable. But I’ll come back to reread it another day! Current rating is... Hm *thinking face*... directly 4/5 stars! <<less

If you're even somewhat interested in the metaphysical culture of China, then this novel is definitely a good read. As a layman, IDK how accurate the content of the novel actually is. But, I know enough from my mother's and grandmother's own teachings to know that it is at least close to life. Anyway, this novel does a great job of exploring traditional metaphysics through various modern elements. Soooooooo yeah. I would definitely read it for that reason. As for other things? SUMMARY: The FL of this novel is called Gu Zhisang. She's from ancient times (the novel is set in modern times and she died 800 years before then). Her soul traveled to modern times into a body that was similar to her own. Only, this body had a horrible fate ahead of her. The original owner was a female cannon fodder who got in the way of the original heroine of this world over and over again, leading to her su*cide. The story began before the original owner had completely blackened. She didn't really care much about the affairs of the original owner, or, rather, she didn't care much about mortal affairs in general. She's a Taoist through and through. She wants to revive the metaphysical community that existed back in the day and eliminate the evil that had pervaded the world since then. Oh, and of course, she wanted to know what caused her to inexplicably fail her catastrophe 800 years ago.

During this entire process, she ends up getting involved in a variety show for metaphysics. She's one of the contestants in a competition focusing on supernatural accidents. Just like that, she becomes entangled in the mystery that was causing the slow deterioration of the world.

Not sure if it showed in the summary I just wrote, but the main reason why I didn't give this novel a higher score is because I think it's lacking when it comes to characters. The FL fits the story very much, but that's the thing. She's more of an instrument for the plot to happen. She doesn't have much of a personality at all. It shows sometimes, but the story really isn't about her own development as a person. I thought it would be, but she doesn't even get a real romance or real friends. There IS an ML that sticks to her, but it isn't fully explored and is barely mentioned. As for her friends, there were some that came up, but they would quickly go away afterward.

ANYWAY, my point is. I like character-based stories, so this novel disappointed me in that regard. This is more plot-centric. This is not a bad thing if you're interested in metaphysics or looking for some mystery/slight horror (it's great, in fact. Because the author devoted themselves to it. Creating a world that is very unique and very interesting). BUT, if that's not what you're looking for, or if you're lacking in interest about the subject matter. OLD REVIEW: A lazy MC is forced to become the best military wife by a SYSTEM lol! Set in the 60s, when the famine was in full swing and everyone was having a hard time. It takes a different approach than other novels of the same type. The MC is lazy and has to develop slowly — she's not well rounded. The romance is also more of a subplot. The ML is also lazy, but he was forced to the military; and, because he can't withstand losing out, he pushes himself (he's cute but he doesn't do much).

Overall? This is a great weak-to-strong novel. It has strong comedic undertones, especially in the beginning. Later on, the focus is more on developing the main characters' skills and temperament. With the MC deciding to become a military doctor, and the ML slowly rising up through the ranks. (Oh! As for the side characters, they're worth getting to know LOL. The main humor in the beginning is the fact that the MC's mom spoils her to death and is great at brainswashing others to do the same).

MTL is 70% readable. I made it? Though I didn't finish it completely cause I felt like the story was pretty finished after the birth of the baby. Would definitely like to read it again one day tho. <<less

Summary: The FL is reborn after dying from cancer. In her previous life, she was the abandoned daughter of the Zhao family. She had been raised outside while a fake daughter had replaced her for fifteen years. When she finally came back to the family, eager to blend in, all she got for her efforts were cold shoulders. Everyone only cared for the fake daughter and thought of her as a petty, uncultured girl who is constantly thinking about gains and losses. After she is reborn, she decides to cut ties with this family ASAP. And oh, btw, to make sure that the original heroine’s halo doesn’t affect her, she cozies up to the ML, who the SYSTEM claims can increase her luck.

If you like drama and face-slapping, then this is the story for it! The story may be a bit unconventional (funny to call it that, but it fits best) though because the here black and white is not so clear. The FL’s original family, for example, slowly realize where they’ve gone wrong and strive to better themselves. The same goes for other characters. Most of the time it leads to nowhere (idk since I didn’t finish T.T) but the effort was nice! LOLOL. What you should really read this for is the romance. It’s a bit s*upid sometimes, but the ML is very cute DX. He’s the tsundere type, rough on the outside but soft on the inside.

OVERALL, a good experience. I can’t say that it’s good all throughout, since I got kind of bored sometimes (especially near the end), but it was a simple and sweet read that was very satisfying. Worth at least 3.9/5 stars. Just short of a full 4 stars lol. <<less

__________SUMMARY: The situation with the FL is a bit tricky. Let's just say that after suffering from a bad ending in her first life, she transmigrated into another world as a sickly young lady. This novel doesn't focus on that world, however, that second world is just like a training arena for her XD to learn new skills and grow up a little more. That way, when she was sent back to her original life, when she was still 14yo, she was able to quickly change things up. Especially with information about the world through a book (which she read in the second world) and her memories of the original path of the world. TBH, this tricky situation is not really all that important. What's important is that the FL gets a second chance at life while having foreknowledge of what's coming. As such, she's able to take her and twin brother out of their horrible situation in the beginning by acknowledge their biological father -- which is what the story focuses on, you know, familial love and such.

_______THOUGHTS: Normally, this novel is not my style. I prefer more exciting stories, and this novel is a bit simple when it comes to setting and plot. However, the characters of the novel were particularly likable, which made the story a lot more satisfying to read. Oh, I should mention, the romance aspect here is more of a subplot (which is why I never mentioned the ML in the summary.) The ML is a big brother type that would normally be cast under the supporting male character role (I don't mean this in a bad way btw, it's just true) XD so the lack of focus don't he romance makes sense. But, it turned out different from what I thought. She's definitely a Mary Sue, for her story was a fun one.Summary: The FL, Gu Shishi, transmigrates into a modern-day novel with a "real vs fake daughter" focus. Her role was the real daughter of a wealthy family that had been raised far away. Said real daughter was picked up only after she had grown of age. Meanwhile, the white lotus fake daughter (who was the original protagonist of the original novel) had been living in the wealthy family this whole time, being doted on because she had a heart disease. When the FL trnsmigrated, it was after her real family had forced her into an engagement with the so-called, cursed first son of the Hou Family (the ML, Hou Shishen). She transmigrates with a SYSTEM, but that's more of a plot device to push the romance between her and the ML, who is struggling with insomnia and other psychological issues because of his horrible childhood.Read this novel if you're looking for something fun and simple! I mean, as a modern day, it doesn't do anything completely out-there. In fact, it borrows a lot of elements from other similar stories. Which is why I call it self-indulgent. If one is looking for complex development or intricate settings and plot, this is not the place to look for it! Regardless, if it just so happens to hit the right mood for you, it's worth the try! She can be described as a bit of a Mary Sue (which heroine can't these days lolol), but the biggest characteristic she has is that she lacks common sense (which makes sense, considering her background). She's like an alien, or Jannet McCurdy from iCarly XD. It makes for a comedic experience. Definitely not as dramatic as the "Real Missy" part of the title may imply (in fact, the real vs fake daughter drama is barely touched upon -- it's tossed aside and forgotten after the first few dozen chapters lolol). The main focus of the novel is the food aspect and the romance. Romance: An awakened spirit from a cultivation world ends up in modern day China. The original owner of the body that she's wearing was a besotted actress, one with quite a bit of drama. The FL doesn't really care about the drama though, she does what she wants. It's just that she still has to be entangled with the original owner's legally wedded husband, who was paralyzed from the waist down and not in the best mental state. She decides to help him out as she explores the world of entertainment.If you're a foodie, this is a pretty good read. There's plenty of cooking and eating moments LOL. Actually, there should be at least one eating scene in 90% of the chapters, which I thought was very impressive xD. If that's not your thing, there is some external plot, but its the really simple kind. Just enough to keep you distracted, but nothing too exciting. I thought it was fine, the scenarios really amused me, and while this novel is definitely not going to be a long-time favorite, I thought it was memorable regardless.
