Years of Reading Pt.1

Sharing several years of my reading experience.

I was slowly creating this list for about a year. When I've got nothing else to do I was gradually expanding it and that's the result.

To make it more descriptive and clarify some things I've put what I consider the main focus of the story under the 'Main Tags' line.

I've also added some comments to express what I thought about most novels that I've read.
As a bonus I've thrown out here some things that people look for or try to avoid like romance and mentioned similar titles that I've read myself.

Tags' explanation:

Mature:
FL - foul language, G - gore, E - ero elements.

Romance:

'No Romance' - nothing worth mentioning/mc is a loner, No Romance(?) - I haven't seen any, 'Romance' - only 1 heroine, Yanderes - self-explanatory, Harem - if MC is in CONFIRMED relationships with
several love interests, not a japanese useless one.

10/10 - Perfection (for me).

9/10 - Not 10/10 but pretty close.

8/10 - Something good/worth reading

7/10 - Readable

6/10 - Read with caution / Only 'Readable' under specific circumstances

P.s I've read a lot of novels (more than 200), so I've chosen more popular titles, or at least novels that I've liked more than others. So very few novels here can be considered questionable or 'hidden gems'.

Mini review: A unique xianxia novel that is a mix of something shitty and something brilliant. Especially recommended to the readers who are new to xianxia genre.

40.000 years ago 'Ancient Cultivation Civilization' which was the absolute ruler of the universe collapsed and humans became s*aves to the monsters they created. 30.000 years later, by creating a new path of cultivation (combination of science + spirit energy) humans were able to rise once again. But on the verge of the final victory, thanks to the meddling of the 3rd party, internal conflict was created and the universe was plunged into chaos once again. The world became fragmented and lots of technologies were lost.

Some time later, at the edge of the universe on a relatively small planet, successors of the once glorious civilization were on the rise again. Even though 10.000 more years have already passed and the level of technology is still far from its peak, humans were finally able to become the rulers of their planet and enter the so-called golden age of cultivation.

This period of time is what they call 'Forty Millenniums of Cultivation'.

Pros:

1. Interesting world-building.

2. Combination of xianxia and sci-fi.

3. Cunning and ruthless protagonist.

4. Quirky romance.

5. Novel knows how to build an awe-inspiring atmosphere.

"FOR THE GLORY OF MANKIND!"

Cons:

1. Disgusting 'overcome the limits at the last moment' situations. I've lost count of how many times all kinds of limits were 'shattered'. It's okay if this happened once or twice, but here it happens all the time.

"Li Yao’s nearly pure black eyes constricted violently. Two stars seemed to have exploded in the center of his pupils. His fighting will continued soaring and broke the limit of all limits! He gritted his teeth and stood on his feet silently against the steel that was pressing his head!"

2. The first 80 or so chapters were not particularly thrilling either. First chapters were full of cliche with countless cheats raining from the sky and dropping on the head of our protagonist, I was even feeling sorry for the unfortunate antagonist - 2nd generation rich young master who has no brain. So it wouldn't be a mistake to say that first 80 chapters were a mere introduction of the world building and MC's foundation. Thankfully situation became much better later on and some battles full of schemes were very interesting to read.

Though there are occasional battles full of schemes, the 'limit breaking' events are still here, and I am writing this right after I finished reading such an event. Facepalm is the only thing that can somewhat express my emotions in the moments like this one.

Rating: 7.9/10 after first ~80 chapters.

Hmm it's a good list for beginners that's all I could really say but if you're an experienced reader you would have read 90% of these novels and as I was reading all the mini-reviews I'm afraid I have to disagree with the creator like it's not a bad list it's just that we have different opinions. Most of my favourite novels ended up being on the bottom of the list and the novels I found to be the most generic and uninteresting were at the top. And after a bit of trying to understand what's wrong with the creator, I understood that he doesn't understand what good writing is and for the lack of a better word a "normie".

  First of all, wns are a read purely for fun. You don't rate novels by their literary value. NU is also not a website of literature contests.
  Enjoying convoluted poorly written plots full of plot holes and fillers doesn't make ur 'tastes' more refined.
  99% of wns were never edited and authors mainly pursue word count. They are also rushing in order to write more ASAP. Because of this most of the complex novels have a ton of problems.
  So I have no idea what you're talking about.
  Maybe as a true 'elite' reader you should broaden ur horizons a bit so that you wouldn't be impressed all that much by useless complexity for the sake of it and info dumps.
  Although it looks like our tastes and opinions differ, I still appreciate the feedback though!

Overall a good list. All the novels had their own mini reviews and ratings making it nice to read.
The novels themselves have quite a large variety. I've read only a few on here though I might try the others you've recommended.
What did you not like about Reverend Insanity? Though I love the novel, I do recognise there are some glaring flaws with it. I'd like to hear more on what you would comment on it.

  I'd just like to add that RI is probably loved, one due to the nature of the main character though I see you wish a main character to follow the stereotype on what an extremely evil villain would be but that's been elaborated in the thread.
  
  Secondly, the power system of the world though can be coarsely summed up as 'Cultivation Pokemon', the overall way its built upon and how the core mechanics on how it works are fleshed up makes it enjoyable compared to a different novel where it goes the generic 'Qi Refining, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, etc...'
  
  In your thread, you mentioned some 'planet sized plotholes' though all of them are answerable and some have even been answered by the novel itself. Among other things though going into each of your points and why they're wrong would take way too long so if you want that just mention it.
  You're not obligated to like a novel since freedom of choice is a thing, but RI is genuinely a unique and creative piece of writing so it being done dirty just makes me feel confounded, but it is what is is.

As there wasn't enough space in list's description I will add some things that I wanted to say but couldn't here:

1. Everything that I've written in my list contains nothing but my personal biased opinion. You can skip all this BS and it will not affect anything. It's basically an expansion/rework of my previous reading list.

2. Less popular/questionable, or simply novels that I've liked less (and some new ones) will be in the next part of this list.

3. My tastes are pretty normal (or so I think). As long as it's not yaoi/shounen-ai, MC isn't a complete ret*rd and isn't a beta wimp - I will read it. Also, I don't read MTL-like quality translations. So if your requirements are similar to mine you can basically read any novel here.

4. At first, 'Mini Review' section was simply a place for me to comment/point out something, but as I've spent more and more time creating this list, it's mutated into something strange and uncontrollable. At times I also needed to point out some particular Tags/Genre for different stories and that's how 'Main Tags' line was created. But it will look strange (IMO) if I don't add it for every novel, right?

So in the end I've created a certain pattern and simply put it under every novel on my list.

Well, you can see the result...

5. Even if my attitude in 'not-so-mini-review' looks negative it just means that I was being grumpy while I was writing it, not that the said novel is bad or unreadable.

Hmmm... That's it for now, I guess. I will appreciate some feedback though. Whether you find my list useful or you have other suggestions just write it here.
