LWJ’s personality is stiff in the way that it’s awkward, but that’s what makes his character so special because when faced with the things he loves (WWX, Sizhui, rabbits, etc), his affection is clearly shown through his actions more than words. WWX in general is just a Character. he’s so full of spirit and justice that when met with his backstory, he’s almost seen as someone who wanted to throw the system - and which he did, by leaving his sect and becoming someone feared by most people. it’s so painful seeing what both LWJ and WWX had to go through. even more so that LWJ was so clearly in love with WWX but couldn’t express it and WWX had so much stress on his shoulders that he took LWJ’s offer as retaliation against him and thus separating the two from each other and making them enemies. it gets so good when the two finally get together and their love is able to bloom through their words and of course their actions. speaking of actions, WOW, MXTX did not come to play with the side stories. even WWX and Bichen had some relationship developments... <<less

HUA CHENG!!!! ok i love this so much. out of MXTX’s three novels, the main pairing in TGCF is probably the best... more>> in my opinion. not only are both Xie Lian and Hua Cheng incredible characters, but the way their relationship develops throughout the novel is so special. Xie Lian is sweet and hardworking, yet also wants to find a path of justice - said path kicking him out of Heaven twice while letting him in three times. his character is honestly kind of relatable too in some aspects? like even though he’s a god, he’s actually really dorky and this is seen a lot during his interactions with hua cheng. ok now hua cheng is just *chefs kiss* absolutely perfect. his character? perfect. his style? perfect. the way he waited EIGHT HUNDRED (800) years for xie lian? *cries in perfect*. ok but no seriously his character is just so ?!??!??! like he’s domineering, but not in a toxic way - its in the way where you have to respect him because of what he’s done and how he got to his position and honestly because he’s just great. he’s hated by the heavens because he’s so powerful and he’s not afraid to act like it around them, but he’s sweet with his beloved xie lian. at the start (after the 800 years), their relationship is nothing more than mere acquaintances. however, it slowly starts to develop as they see each other more and then travel alongside each other. you get to see how xie lian goes from seeing hua cheng as someone who is important to him until its hua cheng being the Most important to him. as their relationship develops, so do hua cheng’s secrets and backstories, as he slowly opens up to xie lian in a confession of love >___< <<less

I LOVE IT. i want to personally thank this random person on twitter for recommending this to me because i really love it. this novel is so cruel in the way the relationship between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi takes so long to develop - and honestly that’s what makes it so good. the focus of the novel isn’t love, it’s about the development of the characters. we get to see the trials that Shen Qiao goes through - and he goes through a lot while suffering over and over again, but this really makes his character stand out because even after all of this, he’s still true to himself and he knows that there... more>> is still a lot of things in the world he has to learn but that’s why he goes through these things. his personality on the other hand doesn’t go through that many changes as he’s still naturally a good natured and kind person. the story also shows us what it means to be strong - that it isn’t just your physical strength, but the experiences you go through and how they change and teach you to become a better you, to become stronger.

Yan Wushi is an interesting figure throughout the novel. He is seen as mean and evil but his intentions are really true to himself. He doesn’t believe in the kindness of humans and because of this, he treats others with little respect, as if they didn’t exist. SQ is one example of this. He plays around with SQ as if he were a toy. He tries to change his mindset that there’s no kindness in the world, that people won’t ever only have innocent intentions. He even breaks Shen Qiao’s ability to trust others and to expect kindness in return for his.

This is where their relationship really starts to grow. Yan Wushi realises that Shen Qiao is an exception. Even though there’s so much deceit and darkness in this world, there is still light, and Shen Qiao helps him see this. Yan Wushi is able to see that no matter how many times he’s pushed down, or how many times he has been betrayed by those he trusts, Shen Qiao is still kind to people, regardless of who they are. 

Shen Qiao really makes it hard for me to see other characters as better than him as he’s honestly such a well structured character that it’s hard to find any wrong flaws with him. Cheers to good characters and great plots!  <<less

every chapter is just pain, pain and more pain. 

i hold this one close to my heart because every time i read it, it makes me really happy. i’m not sure how different the actual novel is compared to wintertranslate’s summary version, but it’s such a good read. seeing the way Ling Ke (MC) and Qi Feng’s (ML) relationship develop was just soo good. from MC’s point of view, he’s been madly in love with ML for years but acts as if university is the first time they meet, thus seeing their relationship bloom is even more sweet. there isn’t much drama - it’s really mostly attuned to ML’s past ‘relationships’ or the countless confessions that both ML and MC receive. seeing how the... more>> schools reacts to their ‘displays of affection’ plays a large part in the development of their relationship as it causes both MC and ML to think about the other’s opinion of them. Qi Feng is a great ML just based on the way he really tried hard to be with Ling Ke and even waited so long for an opportunity to pursue him when they were both willing. He can get a bit possessive and jealous at times, but based on the fact that this is both of their first relationships - ignoring the fact that Qi Feng is seen as a playboy - it’s understandable to the reader (and Ling Ke) why that is. Also not to mention he never acts in a toxic or harming way towards Ling Ke so that’s what makes it so special.

This one is an easy and short(ish) read for anyone who is looking for something sweet and light. You’ll honestly be pleased with it! 

(The summary version is actually quite good and I think Wintertranslates did such a good job that it honestly felt like the actual translation - I read the first 20 chapters through Yuiko (check the chapter updates list) and then went straight to the summary ver and I honestly could not see a difference at all, that’s how good it is.) <<less

Throughout the entirety of this novel, i was crying my eyes out. The pain and loneliness that MC has to go through is so cruel and I honestly wanted to kill his lover so many times. ML is the glowing light in the darkness that came to guide MC. I honestly felt so much pain when I saw the backstory between MC and his lover because they were so in love and their relationship was so good. But time changed them and the only person left loving was MC while his lover was a cheating, lying scum. I felt so much pain for ML too because even though he spent time with MC, it was... more>> at the worst moments of his life. He didn’t even get his love reciprocated for so long because MC still hadn’t gotten over his longtime lover. When I thought I didn’t have enough tears to cry, more just came out.

The only cons I would say is that MC really had no character development besides from when he finally decided to leave, but honestly at that point it was too late. And I also understand how hard it can be to leave someone you love even though you know they’ve betrayed you.

 It felt so awkward at times when the lover tried to repent for what he had done by trying to see MC that it made me so mad because his attitude suddenly changed without any train of thought. It felt like he had no development and he was only in that state of pity because he was losing something he owned... Disgusting.... but so tear-jerking worthy <<less

ok so for the whole time that MC is a hamster, the novel is so good. it’s really creative seeing how the indifferent and otherworldly... more>> ML would act when with his cute, loveable pet hamster. the events that take place while MC is a hamster really shine throughout the novel and help with both the plot and character development. however, once MC is back to his human self, all that character development instantly dies and MC turns into your normal submissive, low IQ shou - a big contrast to the smart and sassy hamster MC. MC’s change fuels the ML’s possessiveness and dominance and turns him into your typical gong. the story is still good but from reading the novel as far as it’s been translated now (11/04), and having read most of the comments, i can tell that i won't be as happy with the end like i thought i would’ve when i started reading. but if you don't care about that and want something with a lot of details but still have a lot of fluff then this one is good! <<less
