All Novels I've Read Sorted By Rating
All Novels I've Read Sorted By Rating
I have made a review and rating for every novel I've read on novelupdates. Since they don't have the user friendly capability of sorting a user's read list by rank I made one for myself ordered by best/enjoyed the most to least. The ranking within the same number of stars may not be right because it is usually from different genres, too different to compare with each other haha. All in one spot.
The bottom of the list that are my lower rated and unranked/dropped novels, I have moved to a new list "All Novels I've Read Sorted By Rating (3.7 Stars & Below + Dropped)" due to a list only having a max of 100. In the future, this will be basically my Top 100 list. The others will be from ranked 101 onwards. The other weaker alternative is the Reviews section in my profile but it can only be sorted by likes and date of review not by rank.
The reason I want to put my rating and reviews straight in the list is because you can't search for a specific user's review in the novel page if there are too many reviews. You will have to search one by one. Its easier to straight up see why I put the novel in a particular list plus my review in the list itself. Sigh, novelupdates is really not user friendly.
PS: Sorry that some reviews aren't as detailed. The ones with no Date Read and only an overall rating, I hadn't used my new system yet. So they may be at not the precise order but what can you do -.-'

Writing/Translation
The translation by Shanghai Fantasy is not the best but it is basically 95% understandable. Much better than mtl. There are some pronoun mistakes throughout the story but it is not too bad and you can always still understand the story. A couple of name errors, but all good. No grammar or spelling mistakes that I know of. Some sentences are a little bit awkward or could be better but you can easily understand the gist of it. Basically, it is easy to understand and read. Apparently, this was an edited mtl.
Plot
The plot structure is pretty good. It is a basic transmigrator rags to riches story with a happy ending. No face slapping or at least it is too minor to be considered the usual cn novel face slapping.
Themes/What it Tried to Achieve
It sufficiently achieved a rags to riches plot using an interesting skill of makeup to succeed. The makeup medium used by the author was very interesting to read about and how this could be done in ancient China without modern technologies. It was satisfying to see how the MC slowly used her sole skill to improve the lives of her family and even friends. It was a very nice wish-fulfillment type of story without being over the top or too unbelievable.
Pacing
Pacing was good, I was kept interested at all times. Was never bored or thought anything was too slow or too rushed.
Characters
They were all likeable! I loved the MC, her new husband and the new kid. The husband is a good man given a bad course in life. He turned out to be devoted and kinda dreamy with how he quietly supported the MC. The little kid was so adorable that it was a pleasure to read how the MC would earn money to buy him little snakes and good food to feed him, who also had a bad start. The side characters were not bad and nice to root for. The villains were all nicely self-entitled that they made you dislike them. However, they were not particularly memorable, just a normal type of bad guy in this time period.
Overall
The only few cons I have is that I wish we could have read some scenes about their reactions to the success of the MC. Make it a bit more cathartic. The second one is the s*x in general. The whole scene about s*x that were shown did not feel romantic in any way. I just feel a bit uncomfortable, maybe it was the sentence choices used. For the MC and her husband, it felt like they did it, next day, she's in pain and the husband treats her like she's porcelain when he was the cause and she dryly jokes in her mind that he should be more gentle, etc. I personally don't like this type of trope/attitude. But the s*x scenes are really quite few and really quite fade to black so I can ignore them. The other thing was that I wish they didn't include the wedding night s*x scene for Xiao Bai the little kid. We spent the majority of the book on him as a kid and only like 2 chapters on him as an adult. It felt too jarring to read about him on his wedding night lol.
Otherwise, I quite liked this story. We go into detail how the MC slowly made more and more money and then improving her family's quality of life quite clearly. I really really like this trope or making use of modern knowledge in the ancient world. And who doesn't like a rags to riches type of story? This was surprisingly wholesome ish with a couple of sudden anxiety during a bit of action. But it was mostly calming and just need to read about the MC working hard and be rewarded for her hard work. It felt earned. I would definitely recommend it.

"[Reincarnation, Historical, Drama, Slice of Life] “Rebirth” novel where the FL wakes up one day with memories of her previous life and beyond that, knowledge that it was a life where—according to outsiderP POV—she played as the villainous side character to her younger twin sister and her Marquis husband. In her pst life, she married the Marquis and ended up being ruined after he discovered that she wasn’t his white moonlight. In this life, with her and her twin gaining memories of their other life, the engagement is broken and the FL has to suffer through life being the ‘abandoned’ woman. Fortunately, thanks to her broken engagement, she ends up meeting her mysterious 9th uncle (the ML), Cheng Yuanjing.
The FL is different from most generic female leads these days because she embodies both traditional and modern values. Stuck in ancient times, she only has one career path to work towards—becoming a wife—and as a genuine perfectionist, she’s more than willing to put in the work to get what she wants. Overall, the characters in novel are very praiseworthy! The author kept their personalities and motivations consistent, which allowed the novel to feel a little more real. In this way, I think the novel is best suited for a mature audience. Especially since the romance is less ‘endless passion’ and more about steadiness.
As for the setting and the plot, the author takes their time introducing this Historical period, focusing mainly on family traditions at the time and how it affects the people in said family. There’s also the Royal intrigue, of course, but that comes later."

Writing/Translation: 4/5
The translation I read is from Ariel Rain. The translation is good ish. There are some careless mistakes but they don't affect the overall experience.
Pacing: 4/5
The pacing is pretty even. There was always something that soon happens and in between, the tone was kinda peaceful. The ending did feel a tad quicker than most of the story.
Plot: 3.9/5
I loved all the parts before the court or political intrigue. I was super invested in the couple's relationship and in our MC’s struggles to secure a good life. I was less interested after that but still I'm entertaining. It's just because I am not interested in political struggles lol.
Romance: 4.3/5
I quite liked it! There was no passionate stuff or anything but I was super invested haha. It's all due to the MC, really. She's rather different from other girls and it is easy to support her even though she is really not a typical good-person type of protagonist. But it's understandable for a woman of that time period. I also like that the relationship is so based on respect and maturity.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.8/5
A typical setting for these types of stories.
Characters: 4/5
The main characters are good. My favourite is the MC. She's so smart, hardworking and a determined perfectionist, making her the best woman of that time period. The best part for me is when she has to work a lot to achieve what she wants. Once she kind of got it and is part of the imperial family, my interest lessened though. Because she doesn't have to actively do a lot of things in each chapter anymore haha.
Personal Enjoyment: 4/5

Overall
This was a fun and refreshing ride compared to the usual web novels I read. It has a refreshing and vivid world/setting situation and a pretty unique premise haha. The powers are cool, the whole book transmigrators all came over to take advantage of the book's knowledge causing all kinds of divergence (hahahaha), the MC and the ML have their budding 2 person world hehe Pretty interesting. Honestly, I kept reading because I wanted to know how it would all end and what would happen to our main characters then. I was also curious about the mysteries of the book's ending and what actually happened/was going on in the original book. My only real issue is that it is a bit hard to follow some of the intricacies or even the main point because of the writing/translation. I feel like I missed out on things that could have deepened my immersion with the story.
Writing/Translation
The translation I read is from Rainbow-reads for chapters 1-12. The sentences are not awkward but a little distant feeling. The only errors I found are wrong words that sound almost the same, like aware instead of away.
The rest, I've read from Cha's Spoilerish Translations. The style of writing is a bit like describing what happened in third person even the characters' feelings. A lot of the sentence styles used are "the [action] is done by [someone]" instead of "[someone] doing the [action]". You know what I mean? It feels more distant using "by". While I don't feel as close to the characters as in let's say, the Architect's Assistant, I feel invested enough haha. The only issue is that sometimes, I don't understand what the paragraph is trying to tell me. I can understand all the words and I can even understand the sentences but I feel like I don't understand what is happening in the world. Maybe it's some of the wording chosen, it may be too slang for me to truly understand the context. Also, they use a lot of metaphors to describe things without further explanation, just assume the readers understand on the first try. Basically, I agree with everything writing related written by reviewer Flying Jade. The prose really has some parts that make it difficult to enjoy the story. I can say, I enjoyed the story despite its prose, not because of it.
Pacing
The pacing is normal, pretty even. I did feel that the middle was a bit draggy but that may be because of personal preference since I don't usually like this type of genre much so I might have gotten tired of the genre and wanted something less action haha.
Plot
We follow our MC at the start of how he entered the Abandoned World, the mysteries of the situation there, the awakening of his power and then, the introduction of the ML in his eyes. Moving forward, he will deal with unexpectedly entering the other world, working as a personal stuntman for the ML and trying to live his life in spite of these uncontrollable and life-changing events around him. And you know, dealing with his apparent identity as the big, final, hidden in the dark villain of a seven-book series where there are thousands of book transmigrators(some of whom came over 20+ years ago) coming to mess with him. Along with his secret admirer, ML who is working very hard to insert himself into the MC's indifferent heart.
Characters
The main couple are unexpectedly funny and cute unlike their first impression during the first like 30+ chapters of the novel. They were described as super charismatic, powerful OP characters at the beginning but when you go further, you see the different humorous side lol. Don't have much to say but the mushrooms are an unexpected favourite hahaha They are surprisingly like adorably tamed and cute bears. There is danger but their thoughts are instinctive and simple. Also like unruly children for the MC hahaha.
The side characters are all distinct, not props for the main characters and have their own thoughts, sides, and opinions. There are a lot of factions in this story so the people must be able to stand on their own without needing the MC to validate their existence.

Overall
So far, I had not liked any of the palace drama/Ancient China royal politics web novels because all the characters including the MC are very dislikable. They are so b*tchy, look down on each other, talk behind everyone's back and are just extremely cruel. In my experience haha. However, this is the first palace/harem web novel I've been quite engaged in. Not sure if I liked reading it but I keep thinking about it. There is scheming and reacting against the scheming all throughout the story. So much thinking and plotting and deciphering of what other people think. The good thing about the story is the MC. She's quite pragmatic and doesn't go out of her way to strike first nor is she extreme. She's also not in your face cruel. What helped made me like her is her position in the harem when she transmigrated into her body, she a lowly 5th ranked concubine that was just framed by someone else for havig and then lost the emperor's favour and was forced to kneel in front of the empress’ palace. So we see her rise from a low position, step by meticulous step, upward in the emperor's affection. This made it easier to root for her. It's also nice that the first look I have of her maids and eunuchs is not them sneering at other people but worried about her. Throughout the rest of the story, blaming and looking down on the other concubines were not their main purpose in life. The other story by this author that apparently had many good reviews, To Be a Virtuous Wife, was so freaking annoying and hateful. The characters are all just ughhh, so freaking two-faced and incredibly b*tchy. The MC there was the proper wife so there was nothing for me to root for since she is already in a position of power anyway.
Anyway, this story is surprisingly a bit philosophical. Some things that feel like they were left hanging or ambiguous seem to be deliberately so. Like what happened in the previous emperor's reign with the empress dowager, what happened in the extra when the MC felt sock etc. The ambiguity of it just made the story feel like it had depth. Like we have given so much detail that we don't want to give everything away haha. I love that the MC will always have these thoughts on the role of women both in ancient times, especially as part of the harem with only one "husband" and in modern times. It's sad how powerless and inferior their lives are compared to men's. She doesn't help because she wants to live but she doesn't go too far out of her way to beat down somebody. I also like how in the extras we are purely in the pov of someone other than the MC. It's surprisingly a good touch and adds an additional layer of depth to the story.
Did I like it? Well, I was engaged enough to finish the story. I don't exactly like it because I think I just don't like harem politics in general but since we have a rootable MC, I am willing to come along for the ride.
Writing/Translation
The translation I read is from everywhere. Since the main group is gone, I’ve been reading from aggregate sites and some formatting has run a bit. There are some missing paragraphs too. And I’m not sure, but maybe some footnotes in the latter half aren't there. So, what is there is pretty good. I don't really remember if there were any mistakes.
Pacing
The pacing was pretty much perfect.
Plot
It's a pretty straightforward plot. MC makes lots of small moves with the emperor to increase his favour and her ranking until she reaches the most favoured person in the harem, just under the empress.
Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve
An amazing imperial harem drama. Lots of scheming and thinking. Mysteries and suspicions are everywhere. Lots of pondering about other people's plans and the emperor's mind in order to protect oneself.
Characters
MC is rootable, calm and smart. She treats this as a lifelong job that she cannot resign from. She will be the best concubine, the highest in the emperor's eyes because that’s her job hahaha. The ML is an interesting one. He's a real emperor who has to sleep with a lot of women and manage the big harem. He uses the women in the harem as just tools. Interesting. So does he really love the MC? Who knows XD. Find out in the extra. XD The other side characters like the harem members are all varied and good antagonists for the MC.

Writing/Translation
The Green Tea translation for like 71 chapters had very good translations. It's easy to read and understand. Then, for the other chapters until the end, all the online translations I could find were just bad. It was still not the worst as I could generally get it more or less but it was still bad. My trick is to just rush through reading, you somehow get used to the badness kind of. The pronouns, 1st pov, 3rd pov, and names, to a lesser extent, get mixed up constantly, so most of the time you just guess who exactly it's talking about.
Plot
The overall plot structure takes place 70% in high school and 30% in university with the extras after graduation and marriage. It goes from the ML being super ferocious and on guard against the MC at the beginning, falling in love with the MC's daily kindness to him, working hard to be worthy of the MC, realising she likes him only when he is his real self, married and has a kid.
Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve
This story deals with heavy topics. The author tried their best to show how having a mental illness can affect someone and how they deal with it. I love how the ML was shown to experience autism here compared to a previous CN novel, this felt more authentic and not just there as a plot device for the MC to care for the ML. Since you are in the ML's head a lot, you can really feel the difficulties he has living his life. Also, the language being used around it doesn't treat it as an illness to be cured from. The MC's objective is to make sure the ML is happy and not misunderstood by other people, which is why she teaches him about facial expressions and emotions. She treats it like he just needs to learn another language more or less. I very much like this. Even after everything, we still know the autism didn't go away, it's still there and has to be handled by lots of communication and not hiding.
The romance is nice and slow. It really establishes the foundation and setup before they finally admit to having feelings for each other. It was nice, really made me believe in their feelings and satisfying because it wasn't insta-love. I still skimmed all the s*x scenes though lol. I just find light novel s*x to be too cringy and that men, of course, are beasts in bed and women are always tired the whole day afterwards *rolls eyes*. But still, I must say it wasn't that over the top this time haha
Pacing
The pacing, I felt, was just right. It didn't feel particularly rushed or slow. Or if it was, it didn't bother me.
Characters
Really, only the two main characters are fleshed out in any manner. The side characters are pretty brief or only superficially there. The main couple is pretty likeable. I liked the ML more haha. The friends made well, you don't really feel that close to them because there aren't any bonding scenes to feel that they are friends. But well, they are there. I like the 2 caretakers of the ML the best out of all of them. They just love the ML like a son haha. The villains, ugh, I don't like them. Especially how they targeted the ML's insecurities. Surprisingly, this is like the only CN novel I've read where the ML is targeted in this way instead of the MC. The MC's enemies are the family, who are ridiculously self-entitled. But they all get a satisfying comeuppance haha
Overall Comments
I liked the mental health exploration in this. The romance is a slow burn to get together even though there are alrd feelings early on which is nice. Sure, there are some loose ends and plot holes and stuff because it's not perfect, but I enjoyed it for what it does.

Overall
A different farming story than what I usually read. There is more technical gardening information in the book which was refreshing. The theme is also not to get out of poverty but more or less to protect the environment and remove pollution. It was pretty chill.
Writing/Translation
The translation I read is from Xiao YunYun Translations. It was basically pretty good. I don't remember any errors and the flow was uninterrupted.
Pacing
The pacing was good. There weren't any rushed bits or slow bits. This is a slice-of-life novel about gardening and plants.
Plot
Our MC is reborn and discovers the system/panel that he can use to see the plants’ needs and status. So, in this new and free life, he explores life outside of a lonely mansion with friends, family and an interesting job (about plants) and along the way, gains a goal to improve the land, air and water quality around him. Along with a creepy stalker ML, who eventually calms down into a super doting boyfriend. Oh, and due to the evolution of the plants, this environment also encourages humans to evolve to be able to understand animals.
However, I did not like the extras about the policeman and his cat. The whole cat turning into a human and then becoming a boyfriend shenanigans is such a lame, cringy, predictable and cheap kind of trope. It's reaally not for me so I skipped almost all of it. The last extra is like an epilogue 4 years into the future.
Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve
It's a slice of life, chill novel. I think it did that pretty well. One of the points that didn't hit as much as it could for me was the system/gamification. I wish the author really ran with it and put in more day-to-day details into it. The level of detail I wanted is like in the Legendary Master’s Wife. Here, the detail was like one plant by one plant and they don't really come back up much.
The other thing is that I wish the author gave our MC a concrete goal to work for at the beginning and tied in all the subsequent actions with the goal more clearly. In the story, the MC just wants to get a job to help his mother and since he has the system for plants which he is also interested in, to get a job with plants in it. There were no bigger ambitions than that so this goal was basically already achieved at the beginning. After that, the MC just slowly and happily worked at the shop dealing with the plants and the people there. All the opportunities to make more money and investments later on just happened to come by and the ML is the one that implements them. Our MC just reacts to all the business opportunities to say he wants to make the environment better so the business opportunities will help to do that and the ML will make it happen. How to say, I wish the MC would combine the business and his love for plants together into one goal instead of him doing the plant side while the ML does the business side. Because the MC is kinda reactive instead of proactively reaching for something. All the good things kinda randomly happen instead of him working hard towards it.
But sigh, from the beginning, the MC’s life and personality is like that. Only seeing plants haha. So I understood why it didn't fit my perfect mould of a story.
Now for the romance, not my favourite or liking. I pretty much skimmed most of it because nope, not a fan of the uke and gong dynamic, it isn't realistic and it's hard for me to believe in so it's just there for me. It's a plot device to help move the story forward and that's it to me.
Characters
The MC is pretty likeable. He's naive at the beginning and very sheltered in a way, despite his old, sad life. But he explores and grows, gaining happiness and fulfilment. The ML is a bit annoying at the beginning but becomes a typical doting male lead later. Nothing much to say about him. The source of drama and revenge comes from his side of the plot with his messed up family.
The side characters are varied but their screen time is short and frequent so I don't feel that close to the more peripheral ones. The only one I feel close to is the mom. The friendships are all lighthearted and a bit like props to me. I don't really feel the weight of them but this might just be because this story is pretty lighthearted haha.

I read the translation by A Wandering Potato. The translation is good. There are some repeated sentences/paragraphs but they are just typos and it doesn't really break the flow of the story. Some sentences are a little bit awkward but they are pretty minor and infrequent, you hardly notice unless you go looking for them. The quality is also very consistent. Overall, I liked it.
Plot and Pacing
Arc 1: Phoenix Man - 2.5 Stars
It was a really typical poor to rich plot taking place in 16 chapters. The previous stories by this author took over 160 chapters. This one is really rushed and short. There were lots of timeskips. We don't really spend much time with the characters. A lot of things from a long period of time were just narrated very quickly in one shot.
Arc 2: Genius Slacker - 3.9 Stars
Much better than Arc 1. The time skips were far shorter and the long ones only took place right at the very end and in the extras. The number of chapters is slightly longer too. The majority of the story is set during 1 year of school. This time, the arc is far more humorous than in arc 1. The MC is shameless too which gives lots of opportunities for humour. A funny arc, quite enjoyable. The faceslapping is kinda mild and quick but a bit more satisfying than in arc one where there wasn't really a villain except the father but he follows the son's order so who cares lol
Arc 3: The Star - 3.3 Stars
Reaaally short so I didn't really have much time to feel anything for the characters, especially the ML this time. He feels like an expressionless old dude lol. The ending was also quite rushed. At first, when I read the first chapter, I wanted to skip the whole arc because I'm not interested in a showbiz genre when the MC and Ml are popular and are there for drama only. But I should have trusted in our favourite MC haha There was a nice plot twist by him hahaha.
Arc 4: Emperor - 3 Stars
This is an Ancient China story but not harem politics but the power struggle kind. I'm not a fan of this because I find it too draggy. But this story was kinda meh. The ML is kinda boring and the MC's character this time isn't really new or interesting. The ML's back story is also unrootable because he's alrd in a position of power and he has good friends in the army. The plot is super simple. There is really only one main villain and he's kinda dumb. Also, all the plotting and palace intrigue were so simple, quickly finished and there was no oomph. There were no feelings of suspense or of any kind of high stakes stakes that should be in this genre because I could feel the protagonist halo from far away lol. Especially since I knew this was a QT story and all the arcs seem to be really short so how bad can it really be. No one would permanently die since there are 200+ chapters to go lol. I really only liked the ending parts after all the villains were dealt with and it was only romance lol.
Arc 5: Little White Face - 3.8 Stars
The beginning half was a bit annoying because the MC transversed into a white face character. Then, he really acted out as one. I find this type of character really annoying so it wasn't nice to read. Luckily, he eventually revealed his strength so there were other more exciting things that happened. This is my first zombie apocalypse CN novel. So it is actually an interesting setting to read about haha. The ML is only okay for this one. For pacing, it was pretty smooth here. There is no timeskip except for the extras and the length of this arc is longer than the previous.
Arc 6: President - 4 Stars
I liked this arc! It was a simple ceo story haha. I love the ML this time, very cute, lovable and innocent! So straightforward just aww The villain here is also the best one so far. He's the constant one making trouble so he built up enmity from me. As a result, the faceslapping feels more satisfying haha.I only wish the author hadn't made him go crazy in the end, it feels like a copout. I also wish there were more detail in the management of the company or in the investing but what can I expect in such a short story sigh
Arc 7: Rogue Scholar - 4 Stars
I liked it! Of course, I really love those poor to rich tropes so that's why I am alrd partial to this arc haha. I haven't read many scholar stories before, so it was interesting to read how they made money to take the exams. I really wish that part was longer and had more detail though. Since these arcs are all so short, there is only like 1 thing they work hard on to make money instead of a slow escalation to hit the big bucks which is more interesting, believable and cathartic. The villains were also the kinds I like, family haha. The feeling is deeper because it feels more personal, which makes the faceslapping more satisfying. It's too bad they don't really appear all that often really. The pacing is pretty good except for the romance. In the beginning, there wasn't much buildup until after the exams when it became seeex lol
Arc 8: Mine Owner - 3.9 Stars
This was a new setting for me so I was alrd interested. The setup especially because it was like learning about cool planets and stuff haha Too bad it was so short. Based on the author's previous works, I feel like it could have been super cool. I found the Stone Age Raising Husband Journal's setting quite vivid(maybe because I really love nature settings haha) with dinosaurs so this interstellar one could have also been really interesting. Alas, it was pretty short and quickly moved on to the climax lol. It felt like all the interesting plots and schemes and action happened before the story and the story now is really all the aftermath.
For characters, the MC and ML are a bit so so but I found the almighty Alan Butler a nice and funny touch haha. The villains here feel more personal and more annoying because they are family to the ML, which makes me feel more invested. I only wish the Xia family really felt the burn. I feel like it wasn't as satisfying for their end. And the antagonist couple, their bad ending is just basically them fighting each other until old age which feels kinda lukewarm lol
Arc 9: Rich Second Generation - 4.25 Stars
I really liked it! Not only is this one of the longest arc, the focus this time is on the romance! The ML is arguably the most developed one so far. We get into his head a lot and watch him accept himself and the MC from his pov way more than in previous arcs. Also, the ML now feels more like a real character than before. There were very little schemes but more of romance development which I prefer in these really short stories very much. Since the arcs are so short, I liked that the focus is on the characters so I don't care if the action or plot is very little. Another reason why this arc really worked for me is because while there is insta-love, the ML and MC didn't get together immediately and in fact, had love obstructions inside and outside haha So they had to work to properly be together so there was actual development than in previous arcs I feel.
Arc 10: Demon Sect Leader - 4.25 Stars
I really liked it! The ML isn't as prevalent as in the previous arc this time but the overall setting and plot combined all of my favourites! Setting up a restaurant, saving the MC's downtrodden people (tortured? Ens*aved?), raising them to have a better life, adopting kids, hehe All things I like. It's just way too bad that it was all skimmed over at the end. All the teaching and making their lives better was detailed a bit at the beginning but then it got skimmed over in favour of some action. But I would have preferred the heartwarming slice of life parts more haha
Arc 11: Educated Youth - 4 Stars
I really like the 70s trope! It's full of slice of life, personal opportunities to cultivate heartwarming feelings everywhere haha. This arc is sadly one of the shorter arcs so the money making/food making part is really quite short. The studying part was kinda skimmed over and we should just assume they all studied hard. As for the characters, I really love that, for once, the villains turned good at the end haha. As for the ML this time, ahh, his situation is really sad! I really like how he was so moved when someone was there to finally give him a bit of support. He cried. Ah, my heart. As for pacing, same issues as all the other arcs, the info dump at the beginning and the end is very rushed and tell not show.
Arc 12: Senior Brother - 4 Stars
We finally see the conclusion of this story. The whole memories of the future, the rebirth of random villains, the transmigrated into a book etc etc are all explained here. Pretty nice explanation too, just that it was explained so short and simply lol The prolong at the beginning was all explained too. I just felt like the red ball of light having no mind felt like a copout though.
Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve
Each arc was waaaay too short. The setting and the original plot of that world are always info dumped at the beginning of each arc. Then the ending is usually also summarised in an info dumpy way at the end. The annoying thing is that the main characters have amnesia and don't remember at the beginning of each arc so every time both the ML and the MC are like new characters to me. The development or anything that doesn't carry through. The only good things are that the MC's name is the same at least and that his inner personality is similar. But the ML is very different from arc to arc. This Quick Transmigration trope, I just don't understand the allure of it, why is the trope so popular it even became a trope? The arcs are so short you don't get much from them. The plot beats are all the same. And for the majority of the story, there isn't an overarching story because the MC has amnesia each world so we, the reader, want to know what is going on but the MC just wants to love the ML anew each arc. Maybe in other QT stories it's different hurm.
As for the romance, this author has a nice tendency to make the couple non traditional haha There is a top and bottom but the corresponding personalities get mixed up in interesting ways which is nice and refreshing. I love how different the couple's personalities are compared to other danmei. Also, the Mc is the gong XD Only, after reading so many of them in such short arcs back to back from binge reading, the novelty wore off a bit in the 70% mark. Ah, but the next arcs until the end, the arcs picked right back up haha.
Characters
Really, the main character you see the most is the MC. Although he forgets everything from arc to arc, his personality is 70% the same and the only difference is that he will take some references from the "body" he takes over. So there is some connection that can be felt from arc to arc. The ML from each arc, though, is all very different. I can't imagine them as each other even though they are the same soul so take that as you will.
Random Comments
I notice that this author has a tendency to make their MCs lie and deceive the ML at the beginning and then later on, the pretending gets exposed and everything is solved with a happy ending pretty quickly. I just don't like that this type of advancing the story is even present. Like, I wish the MC would find other ways to accomplish his goals. It's a bit unpleasant to read about.

Translation/Writing
The translation by Slow Day is very good! Smooth flow, little to zero errors, no wrong pronouns or weird sentences. The writing is such that it is not too detailed and is quite light. However, it uses simple and light sentences to pack a powerful emotional punch. This is an MTL-edited translation.
Plot
This is a slice-of-life romance so there weren't any high highs or low lows. The buildup of the romance was even and included all the typical happy romantic life events.
Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve
This is such a nice, fluffy romantic story. The romance isn't the typical cn novel type but it has some substance, was unexpectedly sweet and encouraging and I liked it which is pretty rare for me in lightnovels. It was just light enough without being shallow. The whole atmosphere of the story is like a healing/wholesome story with good friends who will fight battles with you, work that helps other people and a sweet love story. It definitely executed what it planned nicely. Also, I love how when the MC finally caught feelings for the ML, her personality is still the same even though it was her turn to be shy. It was believable. The previous ancient China slice of life romance I read just before this, this cool and unconcerned MC suddenly turned into this alien blushing maiden whenever there was a scene with the ML, it wasn't believable. So this is good!
Pacing
Pacing, I feel has no issues. It wasn't rushed or slow enough that it was noticeable to me.
Characters
I liked all the main characters and the side characters! The main couple were likeable and I loved that the girl was cheerful, confident and bold without being over the top tomboy and yet was still very mature, as expected of a rebirth 30 year old woman. I love that she is genuinely kind. And the ML is so unexpectedly cute for being a tall gentleman haha. He is basically a typical shoujo maiden hahaha The side characters were all nicely written and didn't feel like typical cardboard cutouts/npcs lol. The MC's girlfriends are especially nice. I adore the female friendships in this; they are so rare!
Overall Comments
To be honest, I don't have anything new to add that the other reviews haven't already mentioned. This story is short (finished in half a day!) but fluffy and sweet without being shallow. It will hit you unexpectedly in the feels randomly that I cried lolol I like it!

Overall Comments
I really love the MC and how he gets his happy ending after such a sad and lonely existence. I do wish there had been more angst from him and soothing from the ML though haha Eg, I wanted more like chapter 37 where his d*ck drawings got torn up by the ML and made him really cry. And then the ML felt guilty. This was my favourite chapter. After this happened, you could feel the relationship getting closer because it's like the MC dropped his guard a bit and the ML realised his feelings more. I didn't care for the smut much because it didn't really affect the romance and it had a lot of top and bottom dynamics which isn't my favourite. At least the MC genuinely likes it so I didn't mind it. Overall, a nice romance danmei I don't regret reading about.
Writing/Translation
The translation at 1stkissnovel . love is pretty good. This is an aggregate website since the link to the translation isn't working. Chapter 6 is bad because the group is promoting their subscription service, so you need to pay to get the polished version. But the rest of the chapters are the polished ones, so don't worry about that. The writing is a little bit more descriptive in the setting than I'm used to in CN novels which are notoriously bare lol.
Plot
It's slice of life smut for about 2/3 of the story before it gets more plotty at the capital. There is a good climax to the story at the end where all the villains are dealt with.
Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve
Smut and romance haha. This is basically the basis of the story and it definitely delivers that. The smut is pretty explicit and I admittedly skimmed 95% of it because the majority of the smut doesn't contribute to the advancement of the romance, it's just pure smut lol and I am here for the story and the romancing of this lonely MC. I was unimpressed with the last part of the story about the plotty bits haha. The story doesn't show all the plotting that happened behind the scenes, it's all just told more or less or only shown the actions taken, like telling it to a third party. I didn't really feel involved in it because I don't really feel the urgency or the planning or the plotting. None of the actions were really explained and if so, it was all very simplistic. The evidence to take down the villains was just getting the letters handwritten by the villain to the country's enemies, making them caught red-handed this way.
Pacing
The first 2/3 of the story we follow the MC get happier with s*x and romance in a pretty steady way. Then, the last part in the plotty bits, I found a bit slow because I didn't know what the goal of the ML was. I mean, for the majority of the story, I know the goal is to take down the guy in the capital and that they were all doing actions to do so (a lot of which affected the MC in some way for the romance part) but I didn't get how this is going to take down the bad guy. So it was a little boring where nothing was happening in the romance department except going on dates that didn't really advance the romance but kept the status quo. After an indeterminate amount of time, then only the romance advanced right after which the climax happened.
Characters
All the characters here are likeable, even the side characters. I love the fact that the MC is a middle-aged man who isn't conventionally handsome and that he is so cute haha. I love his backstory and his temperament. He was so lonely he planned to commit su*cide, found a source of happiness and happily went after it(d*ck drawings lololol). The ML I didn't like at first, but eventually I found him an okay ML because he loved the MC eventually and became a doting idiot lol. All the side characters were interesting and even hinted at having their own romance. The villains were nicely annoying to the main couple and richly got their comeuppance, although I wish the big bad had more rage shown instead of ah, I cannot escape, so whatever.

I read the translation from Fringe Capybara. I surprisingly liked it because it was what I wanted at the time! Lots of satisfying face slapping without the plot being too s*upid to believe. I also liked that the focus was on being successful and family not romance. The characters were all nicely different and the likeable ones were likeable enough to continue reading. All the plots were interesting to read about. The translation was the best, errors only once in a blue moon and it was very smooth. The stuff I didn't like as much was the stepdaughter of the MC, just all around expected by everyone, including the MC, real daughter and the stepdaughter herself, all expecting to be valued a bit less than the real daughter. But this is just a faceslapping story for me so I wasn't expecting much haha

This was good, kept my attention throughout the entire story. It was a bit predictable but I still liked it. The side characters were kinda unimportant but you can still feel some connection towards them if only as someone that doesn't need to die haha. The MC and ML were likeable enough. I didn't feel distanced from them like in many other novels. I felt invested in them. The romance wasn't in your face dun dun we are in love now, it felt believable enough. And I liked the ending :) It was a short and inoffensive time reading this story. The translation is good too, sometimes awkward translations can really burst your immersion.

"Su Yu is the most streetwise MC I have ever read. It's not just the plot but also the way she speaks and how she builds relationships. Even though this is fiction, I think it is very helpful for anyone who works in an office or who have complicated (family) relationships. Where there's a group of people, there'll be politics. The story is quite realistic in this sense. Su Yu is quite the political animal without being b*tchy at all. Sometimes, I think what she says seems over the top, but she did mention the necessity of being noticed and being thick-skinned. She is not pushy in promoting herself and is only indirect in her approach. She plays politics at a very high level - but we are not surprised because we are told right from the start, the background of her past life." ~sassyzoe
"Su Yu is the definite QUEEN of BUREAUCRACY! This story boasts one of the most pragmatic and real female bosses in existence, not a sweet FL but an adult capable woman with the hability of being flexible in pretty dangerous political times. I also liked the light shed on real historical events that happened before this story takes place and that helped me understand a lot more about the reasons behind China´s deep dive into comunism. We can all despise the misery, death and genocide caused and made worse by comunists politics but those happened and it is important to understand why they did. It is totally worth the read if you are looking for real female power and not for sweet, delicate princess like protagonists."~Lissie Furen

Writing/Translation: 3/5
The translation I read is from MTL which is not bad. There is a drop in understanding which means you don't really truly get what is happening but for me at least, I could still enjoy it. I actually stopped for a few days thinking to drop the story but thinking that there probably would not be anyone translating the story for a long time, I picked the MTL back up to read.
Pacing: 4/5
The majority of the story's pacing is good. No complaints. It's just the ending as usual that feels more quick than the rest. It's typical of Chinese webnovels though. The ending has more frequent time skips and such.
Plot: 4.3/5
Pretty good. It's refreshing to read a more political/bureaucratic (in a way) type of story for a transmigration to the 50’s era type of story instead of a get rich type. It helps that the MC is so smart and capable. Cunning? So the setting is like that haha. I also really love that all those small-minded take-advantage relatives got tamed by her and became part of “hers”. Also nice is the ML. He feels just like her in a way. I only wish the story also continued after they reached Beijing and all the restrictions were lifted.
Romance: 4/5
The romance is pretty good haha. Kinda refreshing. The relationship is more like partners and that makes more sense haha.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 4.3/5
The setting is a pretty important part of the story. Read it if you want to know more about what is happening among the leaders of that time period. This also meant that it was better for the MC to go the political route instead of the business route at the time. It is also explained by her in the story. Nice.
Characters: 4.3/5
Very good. There are so many different characters, although not many are really delved into, but our MC especially likes to make connections so we get to know a lot of characters.
Personal Enjoyment: 4/5
I enjoyed myself a lot. The score would have been far higher if I had read a proper translation of the whole story though. Mostly because a lot of the titles and group names are probably wrong in the MTL so I don't quite know what they really are.

I hardly read short stories so not sure how to rate them. But this was a quick read. I had to force myself to read at the start of each new chapter because it's a new pov. It was ok, there are twists but they were moderately twisty and not mind-bogglingly crazy. I teared up a bit.
Plot: 4/5
The whole story is about the various personal accounts of discovering more about the party and the hero.
Writing/Translation: 4/5
The translation I read is from KnoxT. It did get confusing sometimes like with all JP novels on who is talking or who is thinking. But no errors that I can tell. Except one scene where they meet the mother of the hero a second time.
Pacing: 3.8/5
The multi pov did make it hard to start each chapter because I naturally want to continue from the previous instead of learning something completely new all the time.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5
Interesting from such a short story.
Characters: 4.3/5
Such interesting characters. They all are surprisingly caring deeper down.

Despite not having a poor to rich experience for more than half the story, I still enjoyed it. I didn't feel like dropping the story at all. It is just I can't help feeling that it could have been and done so much more. Like for the conflicts.
I wish there was an equal amount of drama happening to other characters and also to the main characters that they had to take action to solve. I compare it to Back to the Sixties, Get Wealthy, Raising Cubs which is another similar story that is Completed and follows a similar trajectory as this one. The MC's career is almost the same too. However, their characters are so different and so much faceslapping was had and I loved it despite the ML's infuriating attitude of heavily favouring the youngest daughter over all the sons. The poor-to-rich element of that story was absolutely fantastic. I still was engaged with this story as is though. This is a more soothing and tranquil slice-of-life story.
And yes, the story ends when the characters are 110 years old when they die. But the tone is pretty cheerful and full of life until the very end. It was still melancholic and philosophical in that last paragraph and I cried lol. Just a warning so no one gets surprised.
*Just FYI to manage expectations, the first 2/3rd of the story is not a poor to rich story. She doesn't do anything to get rich. She just marries a man who has a rich family. She also doesn't really have any special talent or guts to go against the law so other than the very beginning she feels her life is pretty good and doesn't bother to go into any selling business. It is only after some time in college that she starts making money.
Plot: 3.9/5
The first 200 ish chapters are the rural educated youth plot. The beginning starts off strong. The MC is full of agency and urgency to prepare for her stay in a rural area until the examinations start back. So she's making money to prep. Once she reaches the village, it's all about survival and staying lowkey.
However, sometime after she marries the ML and is pregnant, her proactiveness disappears. Because the ML's family is too amazing. They send money and tickets galore. She never does any money-making schemes like I expected after the very beginning. Because the Ml side handled everything.
The next is the college era. Here the OgFL and OgML don't really appear so I feel the drama is even more side character-based and has nothing to do with the FL personally. Not even the OgFL who at least we have more contact with. This has a consequence of the drama feeling a tad more over the top lol. There was an investment in a friend's business at 470+. And then she added another shop. And from here onwards, the poor-to-rich tag really takes place. However, it's not as detailed as I like. But good enough I suppose since that tag was why I started reading in the first place. I only wish she started right from the beginning of the rural farm life era instead of 2/3rds of the way through the story.
This section is all about their life. It is truly slice of life. There are no more overarching aims since the MC achieved her goal of getting back into the city. They just live their lives as happily as they can and slowly get on with their careers along with the MC's businesses. Along the way, we get to know their interactions with the main characters' relatives and their lives. Honestly, everything was smooth sailing. There was no conflict for the main characters anymore. It was all about the characters around them like their classmates or relatives. And it gets solved without their input at all.
A big disappointment is how the OgFL and OgML eventually just disappear from the story. It was disappointing. I thought at least the MC would show her nosyness and keep track of them. They don't even appear in the ending or the extras. Honestly, it is a bit weird because they were so important in the rural part of the story. So I thought we would be getting more stuff about them.
Writing/Translation: 4.5/5
The translation I read is from A Wandering Potato. The first few chapters were super short so it was very laggy to frequently wait for the page to load. Because of the ads. My tip is to load two or three chapters and then cut the wifi on your phone so the ads don't keep popping at the bottom. It keeps popping up after I close them whenever I scroll downwards. My phone felt hot and was struggling to load because of all the extra videos running on the page. As for the TL quality, it is fantastic! Very good :D
Pacing: 4/5
Honestly, the pacing is super consistent! It never felt slow or rushed. It was honestly just nice for this slice-of-life feel. And amazingly, even though the extras or ending was more summarising a time skip, it never felt like it was. The pace was still the same somehow. Good writing style.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.9/5
The setting I feel is not bad if only because the story is so long that we have more places to see. The rural village and then the university at the capital. However, the level of detail is pretty low. I can't really imagine the greater surroundings. The focus was really on the characters and how their life is going rather than expressing what the places look like.
Characters: 3.8/5
I really liked the Fl and Ml at the beginning when they just met. They were so interesting. The FL was gungho and decisive while the Ml was hilarious having such a frail body and surprising outlook. I was excited to get more of him. But after being cured, he basically becomes a typical ML. Good at everything, handsome as shit, spoils the FL crazily, loves having s*x until the FL is that annoying tropey mad at his enthusiasm causing her body to ache the next day. Kinda sad about that. The FL too. After getting together there were no more personal conflicts for her to faceslap. The ML does it for her.
I was super interested in the OgFL and OgML though! But we didn't really get to know them, unfortunately. Not even their ending. Because the Mc kept keeping away from them.
All the side characters were nice. None of them felt like that placeholder NPC. They all feel like real people we just passingly know because the Mc just passingly knows about them.
Romance: 3.8/5
The romance is unfortunately typical. Sad because there was a super interesting intro of their first meeting but after everything is done, the romance becomes the typical romance. The ML's uniqueness just goes away. And his presence kinda diminished a bit as the story went on and more side characters were introduced to the MC. I wish we had more focus on their relationship though lol. The Ml also gets busy with his own career. And yes they do have dates and lots of them communicate issues with each other but it's pretty short lol.
Also, I really wanted more conflict of the romantic kind about each other in their college and teacher era! Like even more suitors making trouble for each other so the other person can faceslap them hahaha.
If anyone knows of a CN novel with a frail and interesting attitude ML and a stronger FL that isn't a naive idiot set in rural or ancient China, please let me know! I am curious to read about this type of dynamic in Chinese novels seeing that their culture is deeply entrenched in favouring boys over girls.

"Special shout to novel's Psychiatrist. His really great and the author really captures the attitude of a good therapist. He does not force his client to talk, he encourages but he knows the limit on where he could push. There's also the talk about confidentiality. And I love his foresight. He told that our Shao Shoa won't have a normal marriage since he have a trauma with older woman.
Special mention with the family's attitude towards mental illness. That's how you should deal with it. Our it was not mention but they were undergoing family therapy. I like how the author advocate mental illness in this novel."

The translation I read is from Chrysanthemum Garden. Not as polished as expected but still way better than most. The only errors are a few very minor careless mistakes.
Pacing: 4/5
It was pretty even throughout and the ending wasn't jarring like other similar stories. By then, the story felt very complete, and the flow of the ending felt the same as before even though there were time skips. My only issue is that I needed a bit more stuff to be happening haha. So some small parts felt a bit slow or something was happening that I was a bit bored by and wished it would finish quicker, like that truth or dare game lol.
Plot: 4/5
I enjoyed it and I finished the story so that's good haha. It was sweet and all the characters were refreshingly wholesome ish to read about. The Mc’s father and therapist were so nice, mature and lighthearted.
Romance: 4/5
I liked the romance too. It builds up gradually until I got it. The romance wasn't shoved in my face to believe it. Usually, most high school BL romance works for me lol. Others not so much haha
Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.5/5
Well, it's high school. Nothing much else.
Characters: 4.3/5

I say, like the first 75% of this story was all to my taste! Poor to rich, so much business management, such a hardworking and sympathetic protagonist, rebirth with lots of dog blood, face slapping and yet, also a lot of heartwarming feelings. All good. But then, I don't know why, the author expanded on the whole rebirth/reincarnation cycle situation and it felt too off and kind of broke my immersion. I wish they had just stuck to a simpler end because it was too messy. I also thought it was unnecessary and didn't add much to the plot. It doesn't help that the last few TV shows and movies that Tan Mu was involved in felt less special and too similar to each other. After the Flesh and Blood TV series, he made a military TV series and then a military movie and there wasn't any personal oomph by the MC in them. So when all these hooha about breaking the record tv ratings and ooooh, on par with Hollywood blockbusters in revenue, all kinds of rainbow farts that completely worked for me in previous other MC works, did not work for me this time at all. It wasn't believable at all, broke me out of the immersion and also made me impatient to finish the story because it was alrd near the end. I'm not sure if reading these parts in MTL was part of the reason why I didn't believe in the story haha. Anyway, if it were only the parts I liked, this would have been in my favourites!
Writing/Translation: 4/5
The translation I read is from Iron Tree Translations. The translation is quite good. The only issue is that some words have weird spelling mistakes. In the beginning, some words have numbers in the middle, like "w6rld" instead of "world." It's almost like in the process of copying over the translation to the website, it got converted. It's not too common and didn't affect my reading experience. I read the translations up to chapter 249 before I ran out of translated chapters and moved to the MTLnovel website to finish the story. So, it's readable enough to get the gist but it is definitely not as pleasant an experience as the translated version. I would say that if the translated version is a 9.5, the mtl would be 8. There are constant "I" and "you" mistakes, which got a bit confusing in some paragraphs but not too often. Surprisingly, most of the sentence structure is intact. The humour also managed to get through. But some of the whole rebirth explanation and the subsequent characters’ planning, I am not 100% confident I understood everything. So take that into consideration of continuing to MTL haha.
Pacing: 3.9/5
I say it is pretty good up to where I read the translated chapters. But maybe it was the MTL, I got a bit impatient and kinda lost interest by then, so I wanted the story to be finished more quickly.
Plot: 3.9/5
This is quite self-indulgent, as the author said hahaha. But filled with all my favourite tropes. Poor to rich, business management, family and friend with heartwarming feelings, rebirth and faceslapping drama XD The plot isn't as tight as it could have been, like some plot points weren't followed up later on, such as the Zhang family. I wanted to know if they succeeded in not going bad, and about the Zhang girl, why did she wait for that bad neighbour at the toilet? What was her intention exactly? Is it to help the MC? Or help herself somehow? Her motivations weren't explained or hinted at at all. On the business side, I don't know if the MC made any money from them too. I also wanted more follow up from the chef academy too, money wise haha. In a family-building kind of way. For the orphanage as well, did the small business take off? Are they financially stable now? Was a sustainable ecosystem able to be set up? All these things, haha. Otherwise, I love this MC because he is a workaholic, a perfectionist, super smart and very detailed! It definitely helps with the immersion and I love learning new things. I also liked all the financial stuff thrown in, it felt like the author knew about this stuff and slid it in appropriately. The programming stuff too. I am a programmer and am very interested in personal finance, so it was refreshing to see some realism about these two things in the story instead of, they are so smart they can predict the market, picked stocks and made a boatload of money without actually going into any detail whatsoever. Or you know, they just learn all kinds of programming knowledge, developed a program single-handedly in like a week on an old laptop to capture all the market data and are able to make predictions on the market to day trade and make boatloads of money. This is too unbelievable because that is big data and needs maybe a supercomputer to do all the computing, or at least a bunch more servers than just a laptop, etc. But I definitely believed in the Mc’s knowledge and actions, so I was even more immersed which is wonderful. I like most of the acting stiff too because it felt real. Just my issues with the whole China is great, the military is super cool and everyone should love it, ehhh not my thing. I despise war and military stuff because it causes me anxiety and angst. Also, I'm not sure why the author made the MC do so much military-themed entertainment so close together. Just story-wise, it's repetitive.
Romance: 3.7/5
The romance is quite little overall but when it is there, I enjoyed its development. It is rather slow burn because the MC is just so work-focused and has a very clear line between business and anything else that he believes everyone else is that way too. After that, there is also the fact that he is a highly suspicious person and wary of betrayal due to past experiences so the ML has to put in a lot of work haha. Also, it can be surprisingly very sweet XD. After that, well, relating to the whole rebirth expanded explanation and the romance, it felt like the author wanted to make it a thing. It's just that I couldn't quite buy it. Again, maybe it's the MTL’s fault haha.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5
The entertainment industry is fascinating to read about, with how the various production elements work together to create a TV show or film. Investors and actors and stand-ins and props, all kinds of things. I also like the Hong Kong part because I don't really know what their relationship is with each other XD. ALSO, there are a lot of details about the financial world, business stuff and the entertainment industry, so I’m happy.
Characters: 4/5
The MC, Tau Mu is very rootable and made me quite quickly immersed in the story. He's sad, hardworking, full of regrets, has a poisonous tongue and is good at taking revenge. Despite this, he is a huge softy at heart for his people. I love watching all his schemes haha. The ML doesn't appear as much but he is surprisingly sweet and fun the longer they know each other. All the other characters are super distinct, real, and have a lot of depth and vibrancy. It's just that some of them don't get followed up on after their arcs, which they were active in sadly. Well, this story is pretty long, so...
They're so delightfully super annoying, the bad guys. Sometimes it makes the blood boil in a good way because then you look forward to seeing the MC kick them away and stuff lolol. It is enjoyable to read how the MC takes his revenge on hurting his people.
I do have to mention that I did get a bit confused on their motivations and what part they are playing in the story. Like the bad guys at the beginning, because the MC has no power and if fighting won't bring enough benefits, he will just suck it up and smile, the bad guys just keep hanging around as friends. Couldn't make up my mind if the author was trying to make them friendly or what lol.
-----
"[Second Chance, Slice of Life, Poor-to-Rich, Modern Day] This novel surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, if you consider my usual addiction towards poor-to-rich stories) kept my interest for so long! The premise of this novel is similar to most rebirth/second-chance novels. The MC (Tao Mu) ends his first life in complete misery after being brought down by the people he thought were on his side. As such, he welcomes his new life with every intention to live better. Unlike some novels though, his main focus is not on revenge. It's to stay away from the bad elements in his previous life — especially after discovering that he wasn't the protagonist of the story, and that even fate seemed to be working against him.The MC of this novel is the perfect-Gary-Stue type. He starts off very strong in terms of skills, and only continues to make himself stronger by taking advantage of his foreknowledge. If you enjoy novels where the main character levels up constantly in terms of reputation, wealth, abilities, etc." - tr*sh_generalist

*FYI, the ending Extra 119 is the death of old age of the main couple. I suggest you don't read 119 because it was sad lol. Why do authors do this, can't they leave it as the couple going off adventuring forever lol.
So it was definitely a cut above the typical transmigration poor to rich story. In that the side characters are not NPCs and in fact, sometimes have their own scenes which is ridiculously rare. This includes the ML! Which is quite nice. However, the poor to rich wasn't the best I've ever read or that satisfying. My enjoyment rating is thus not that high. Because that poor to rich aspect is why I read these books in the first place haha.
Short Summary: MC has wood powers from an apocalypse world and transmigrates into the ancient era, experiences his hetero beliefs beaten up by the strong and cute ML, discovers family again and “handles” with his enemies. To support the people he loves, he makes money intermittently using his wood skills.
Plot: 3.8/5
Decent storyline. But I wanted better and more cathartic poor-to-rich money making. But it was more intermittent. I think part of it was because I didn't really feel the pure joy of the characters increasing their quality of life. Possibly because the MC’s family were newly poor and not born from poverty. They have experienced being rich before so being rich again wasn't that special. So the poor-to-rich aspect wasn't as satisfying as other stories.
Also, the author mentioned there will be little ones which made me think there will be a good chunk of heartwarming family scenes with the kids in the 2nd half of the story. But nope. It was like the last chapter that the children were born lol.
A lot of this story was actually fighting with the usual type antagonists. I never felt anxious for the main characters but I was tense whenever they had to deal with them for interrupting the slice of lifeness haha.
Writing/Translation: 4.5/5
The translation I read is from DarkStar Translations. Very good tl! The only con is the website is chock full of obnoxious ads that drains my phone battery like crazy. Luckily, you can just load the text then immediately turn off your phone wifi so the ads don't load.
Pacing: 3.8/5
Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.7/5
Typical ancient time setting.
Characters: 4.2/5
The best part is that the side characters aren't NPCs and can be considered actual characters lol.
Romance: 4/5
The romance is pretty nice. There is actual buildup from both sides. They learn more about each other and then only fall in love. Heck, the relationship took 50 chapters to get together. Isn't that amazing?

Overall
Because the faceslapping was not in your face, realistic and were quite minor, it gave the story a more classy feeling than if there were countless s*upid villains making trouble haha. There are mysteries that made me curious to find the conclusion at the end and the hindsight understanding of many of the MC's original life almost gave me goosebumps which says how good the author is. I also like how the couple was portrayed by the author. The achievements were done by the MC by himself. The ML only did the things that were truly out of the reach of someone who doesn't have the lineage. The only issue I have is the translation, which is better than MTL but not great.
Translation/Writing
I read the translation from 3 translators for different parts of the story. The 1st two chapters are by Reader's Realm. The translation wasn't great. It was readable but there were some sentences that were confusing, especially since this is the setting up so everything was new to the reader.
For chapters 3-32, I read from Shunraiki Translations. The first quarter/half of their translations were also not great, many confusing sentences that made me puzzled a bit on what was happening. But later on, it got better so that the flow was pretty good. The only errors were easily fixed in my head while reading.
Then, the last translator, Midnightrambles. The translation level went back down to not great again and basically stayed there until the end. I can understand 85% of what's happening and the other 15% I can guess the general gist maybe. Some of the sentences did impact my understanding, I feel like if the translation was good, I might have enjoyed the story even more.
However, these translations are definitely better than MTL and compared to like Green Tea translations which are just 0.5% better than MTL, at least I can more or less understand the story. So I am grateful to the translators that it is readable and to not let it stop anyone from reading the story.
As for the writing itself, I think it's good! There was some suspense and mystery that I was honestly not expecting lol. I feel like this was a step up from the normal careless web novel. Just a bit haha.
Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve
From the synopsis, I was expecting the MC to work hard to go from bad luck due to unlucky circumstances from the previous life to selecting stocks and working hard at a company to be successful by grasping at the 2nd chance in life. However, the selecting stocks part was very little, only choosing the company he's working for. There was no thinking. Working hard at a company was fulfilled using the varied experience he got from his bad luck in his previous life. And he did become successful at his company early on.
But then, there was an additional add-on of acting in the business vibe of the story. I felt that that was a bit clashing. At least for one of the movies, The Universe. He alrd said he wasn't interested in acting, there weren't any additional benefits other than personal fame and money to acting in this The Universe movie but he actually wanted the ML to open the backdoor to have a supporting role in it. He even won a Supporting Actor award like, too unbelievable just for the acting parts. He had never acted before previously, just watched.
I loved the mystery and action parts too. I just wish there were more business dealing then as well, like it was at the beginning. I felt like I missed some things about the underhanded things happening and the mysteries due to the translation but I understood it all in the last chapter because it was explained clearly then haha.
For the romance, it was okay. I wasn't really invested in the romance because I didn't see why the ML fell in love. Apparently he was already interested in their first encounter? Too insta love for me. The MC’s feelings were much slower and relatable. I do however, greatly appreciate that the MC kept all faculties working in the presence of the ML. And the ML isn't the forceful, overbearing gong that doesn't understand no. Veryyy good. The s*x scenes are fade to black and euphemismly described in like one sentence. I'm happy about that because unless I really really really get into both the characters and their relationship with each other, the s*x scenes will be too cringy for me. So needless to say, I found 99.9% of all s*x in my time in novelupdates super cringy lol.
Pacing
I think it was just right. Nothing was rushed. Since the length is on the shorter side, I felt that they fit a good amount of stuff in there too.
Characters
I like the MC very much. He's lowkey, calm and quiet but he isn't a Garu Stu. He's very capable, cunning and personable with a bad life which makes people sympathetic to him even when he's being a cunning fox. He's perfect but actually not once you know him which is refreshing in the BL scene haha. I don't have much of an impression of the ML except that he's the ML of the CEO nature. I do appreciate that he respects people and also respects the MC’s own capabilities. I do like how they fit together, though. He can do things the MC doesn't want or know how to do haha.
I like how the friends in the story are actual friends with their own personalities, history and lives separate from the couple. In web novels, it can feel like they only exist as a prop for the couple haha. It is also nice to know there are other people in the world that know the MC and ML heart to heart and wish good for them too.

"The main plot is… MC is a master of metaphysics (he can see spirits, draw talismans, etc) that died young and ended up transmigrating 500 years into the future (which is an interstellar era). Upon arrival, he finds himself immediately matched up to an Alpha called Xu Yao (the ML). He agrees to being said Alpha's wife so that he can go back with him to planet Earth, which had long been abandoned and left to ruin after several world-ending disasters. The focus of the story is a bit mixed. It starts off being mostly about romance and exploring metaphysics. Then there's a bit of a "kingdom building" feel as the two main characters get even more involved with the undead community. Finally, it finishes off with action and family feels." - tr*sh_generalist
---Review---
Overall/Personal Enjoyment: 4/5
Honestly, I agree with everything tr*sh_generalist reviewed about this haha. Whatever I say seems to just reiterate them lol. I rather enjoyed it. The writing style had me interested in the world pretty quickly. I'm always down for a transmigration story with a proactive MC. I also liked the setting a lot.
Writing/Translation: 4/5
The translation I read is from Chrysanthemum Garden. The translation is pretty good as usual from them. A little minor and random careless mistake at the beginning but I didn't notice anything later on. As usual, have pictures taken by the translator. But unfortunately, a lot of them showed an empty picture, maybe the url to the pictures no longer works.
Pacing: 4/5
Pretty good. Maybe the whole last part with the battle felt like it was solved rather quickly in like 2–3 chapters but at least the anxiety of what was going to happen to the characters was over quickly haha.
Plot: 3.8/5
Well, I like all the parts before the action stuff with the family intrigue and the battle with the orcs at the end. I prefer the calm slice of life, infrastructure stuff in the first 3/4 of the story haha. Following the MC as he explores and sets up supernatural things was pretty interesting. Watching the couple get closer was nice too.
Romance: 3.9/5
The romance is not bad. The ML feels like a real character that does things lol. I like how vibrant and active their relationship is. Of course, I still don't like that the ML will trick and "bully" the MC but he doesn't do it for too long and it's good fun more or less. He gets far more doting soon. I also like that the s*x scenes aren't explicit, so I don't have to know if the ML is overly domineering or r*pey in bed :D I also like that the MC, eventually admits freely that he also really likes the hotness of the ML lol.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5
The world is pretty interesting. It's interstellar, which distinguishes it from ancient or modern settings. I'm slowly finding more stories that are solid that are set in this type of setting XD I got confused by the synopsis about metaphysics being a large part of the novel until I realised metaphysics is like ghosts and supernatural stuff. Basically, it's like Chinese onmyouji with talismans and chanting. This is a mix of ancient Chinese superstitions and futuristic interstellar technology. I wish there were more explanations in the book about how the ghosts used to work. I got confused about the whole Ghost King, Jade Emperor stuff even with the footnotes.
Characters: 3.9/5
The main characters are nice. The MC is a smart and hardworking shou doing his best. He's a cutie but not the frail, shy damsel in distress type luckily. We later find out more of his origins which is interesting. I only wish it was more intimate? Maybe longer flashbacks would have helped with the believability and immersion more even though I hate flashbacks.
The ML is also a typical gong but not as super stereotype as others. He becomes more doting along the way. He also has an interesting past. Same problem as MC above. I wish the reveal was more intimate. It felt a little bit like the author threw it in and the reader just has to take their word for it.
All the side characters have character too. I liked them all, the ghosts, the random shopkeeper, all the soldiers etc. The soldiers were quite fun haha.

Personal Enjoyment: 4/5
I liked it. The pictures definitely helped give me that cosy slice-of-life atmosphere. Because there weren't a lot of descriptions of the food. The story is pretty short, I read it in a day. There weren't any frustrating events with only one faceslapping of relatives. Otherwise, it was smooth sailing. But it wasn't boring as some smooth-sailing poor-to-rich stories are. Because the business making was a bit more detailed than others! At least for most of it. All the money numbers were actually stated with costs, expenses and net profits. Of course, near the end, it got vaguer sadly. I didn't like the romance after they got together though because the ML changed and got “cured” into a typical ML who “sexes” the FL until exhaustion every night regardless of how she refuses *rolls eyes*. So sad, I really loved the dynamic at the first 3/4ths of the story though. The ML was so easily flustered!
Short Summary: Girl MC transmigrates into a cannon fodder-ish character wife of a socially stunted scholar and his 2 young siblings. She then cooks her way through life to earn money to cook more food.
Plot: 3.8/5
Pretty simple plot. MC comes in and cooks her way to a comfortable life for her and her family. Her husband grows out of his insular shell from her food and passes his exams because of love. I do feel like there were missed opportunities for more plot though or as if the author decided last second to just not explore some plotlines. For example, what happened in the original book with the protagonists and also the neighbours. There was an agreement for the MC to teach the kid 4 meat dishes and 4 vegetarian dishes but there were zero mentions of her doing that. But we know the husband's sibling got to learn from the neighbour to sew because there were mentions about that. A little odd but it didn't annoy me or anything.
Writing/Translation: 4.3/5
The translation I read is from bekiapobenjieming. The TL is very good. It's edited MTL but the finished product is fantastic. Every sentence has an effort to make it easy to read and understand despite having some minor errors. You can tell that there were multiple rounds of editing. Also, it's full of pictures showing the food and that made the experience very atmospheric and helped increase the reading experience by a lot. Honestly, I think the pictures made this into a ⅘ experience for me instead of a likely 3.7/5 without it. Yes, there were a couple of wrong pronouns and missing words at the end but it all felt like missed typos only. Every sentence was completely understandable. Kudos to the TLtor!
Pacing: 3.9/5
For the most part, it was good. We follow the MC step by step to earn more money for her expenses. And the ML didn't come in and negate all her efforts by showing some hidden past that comes with lots of money or doing something off-screen to suddenly earn double the amount she did. It is only near the end of their stay in town that the pacing got faster and things started to get a lot less specific. This seems to happen with all Chinese novels, unfortunately.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.7/5
Pretty generic. I would say 0.2~ stars was purely because of the pictures the Translator added since there weren't many descriptions of the food or the scene.
Characters: 3.9/5
I really liked the MC and the ML at the start. The ML was such a different character than I'm used to in these poor-to-rich transmigration stories. He was so flustered and untalkative, it was cute. The MC was also nice and calming to follow. She wasn't too extreme in character, neither too OP nor too helpless. But hardworking and grounded. The two siblings were a bit generic but not bad. The antagonists were meh. I barely knew who was who because the in-laws' names were so similar and they didn't appear much. The maiden side of the family was mildly more interesting, especially the Mc’s mother.
Romance: 3.9/5
The romance is a 4.3 for most of it until the ML got “cured” of his silent emotionally stunted ways ¾ of the way which the romance then became a 3.6/5 for me. The romance was going fantastic because of the couple's dynamic. The ML was so in his own world and was so confused and flustered by the FL lol. And then, I loved watching how their interactions slowly increased and grew. Then Idk, the ML had a breakthrough, had s*x and all that changed. He suddenly became this confident top official and is a menace to the FL in bed *rolls eyes*. You know, the whole go so many rounds the FL is left exhausted the next day. Also, a lot of the “couldn't resist the FL’s actions and then went to have lots of sex”. Also, a lot of the “FL complains and is resistant but the ML just bulldozes over her and kisses her to stop her complaining and having sex”. The usual toxic romance tropes in Chinese novels sigh... This is normal but it really bugged me because there wasn't any hint of this attitude at the start so I feel let down lol.

It was ok. I was expecting more because of the high rating and yes, I can see how it got that high. The TL is good, the plot is pretty logical with not much padding, and the setting is a European-ish setting with monsters and religious magic. And the BL is one of the better ones. But the plot was rather predictable to me. I wasn't surprised at any point and I was expecting there to be a surprise twist or something but I predicted the pilgrim almost from the introduction. I read on because I wanted to know about all the twists and turns from the previous lifetime that the MC had not known and yes, those were engaging for me to discover. At C130 ish, I already know and confirmed most of the mysteries and I can predict the rest. At the very end, we find out how the MC regressed and I was surprised that the reason was the most simple reason. The start of all this was just... short lol. I was expecting more. Though it did teared me up in the side story 1, C147 haha.
Plot: 3.9/5
It was simple but complete. The finding out things are different than the MC thought was above average but not mind blowing. Top of light novel level.
Writing/Translation: 4.3/5
The translation I read up to C147 is from Foxaholic. It's pretty good. Some minor grammar mistakes but it's pretty rare and ignorable. Some of the sentences, not sure if it's the TL or the author's writing were a bit awkward. Some sentences will show an oddly childish tone in the choice of words from the Mc’s POV.
Pacing: 3.8/5
Most of the story was good. Didn't feel draggy or bored. But then the MC discovered an important benefactor’s identity from his previous life and he got hanged up over it for a few chapters. The momentum stalled here for me because I feel that it's a nonissue and/or a really boring thing to fuss over. I can get why he would be but it was so obvious to me the reader that I feel annoyed he only got it now and is making a fuss over it near the end. It might be better if the author emphasised more throughout the story that this would be an issue when the MC finds out. Just power through for 3-4 chapters and then we finally get to the final battle. And a nice happy ending.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.9/5
It was different from my usual fare since it's more European. Brief mentions of the different places and all that. It was okay. Could definitely be better but there was some variety.
Characters: 3.9/5
The MC and ML were likeable enough to keep me engaged with the story. Lots of different side characters and antagonists. But a lot of them were still brief and not expanded upon. I like that some of the antagonists got a surprising redemption arc though. However, the main bad guy's reasoning for all his actions fell flat for me. It was so weak.
Romance: 3.9/5
The romance was okay. Some nice direction and turnover in the couple's growth. But once they got together I kinda lost interest a bit. And the latest conflict from the MC’s side felt unnecessary. A big contributor for me dropping it here. I don't feel like what happens next is going to be any more interesting. I liked the beginning when they were getting to know each other and falling in love more. Nice happy ending though.

I read mostly in MTL for the whole thing. It's surprisingly understandable. Even when the sentences are almost gibberish, I can still understand them so good that there were hardly any interruptions in the flow. And sometimes, when I don't understand but want to know, I can just check the translation from a different browser and that always comes through. I would rate this much higher if there was a TL.
Pacing: 4/5
Not bad for a story this length. We go from junior high to just graduating from college. There is a time skip in the middle ish from high school to college which I wanted in detail but eh.
Plot: 4/5
I give it a 4 just because it's so long and I was invested the whole way haha. I love this type of stories and it's so long! It's more dealing with adversaries who are jealous of them or want to take advantage of them because of blood relationships and doing business to get wealthy. This part isn't that detailed and a bit hand-wavey, but there is constant doing stuff to make money.
Romance: 3.8/5
The romance is okay. It's not the focus but it is there. The ML is also an interesting enough character. And they only get together near the end lol.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5
Nice haha. She has so many business ventures.
Characters: 4.5/5
Very good! I love all the side characters. They all kind of grow especially the ones close to the MC. Nice to see. Also nice is that some of the bad guys became good guys hehe. That's a bit different.
Personal Enjoyment: 4/5
I like that it's so long and set in one of my favourite era. The length and story are similar ish to Back to the Sixties Get Wealthy and raising cubs or something like that. It's not quite as step-by-step with lots of numbers to get rich but it's good enough lol.

The first half was a 4 and the second action-packed half was a 3.8 or 3.9. I liked the making money and growing skills while going to school, slice-of-life part more haha. The second part of the action, mystery part, was objectively above average for me but the first half is just more towards my personal preference.
Writing/Translation: 4/5
The translation I read is from IAmABanana or Banana Translations. The translation is pretty okay. It is edited MTL but it is much better than pure MTL. The sentences are all as if they were written in English instead of weird, awkward sentences. Yes, it is not perfect and there are some careless mistakes here and there but it is so much better than MTL and you can feel the work that went into it. The translator really focused on delivering the meaning instead of just perfunctorily going through the MTL. I also did not encounter any sentences that I didn't understand, which are usually common in other translations. Also, I found the translator kinda cute hahaha.
Pacing: 4/5
Hmm, surprisingly even.
Plot: 3.8/5
The first half was more personal development for the MC where he worked hard to be independent and be able to survive and live a good life in this new world. The second half was entirely plot driven, with some action, mystery, antagonists, and the Mc's plan to reduce reliance on guides and make them more normal in society. I do admit that I preferred the storyline in the first half because it felt more poor-to-rich and weak-to-strong slowly and gradually. I just like that kind of stuff. The second half was more externally focused and while they were interested and different, my personal preference is to continue to watch the MC slowly improve instead of action hahaha.
Just some comments that some transitions were a bit random and the spring tide felt a little out of the blue when first introduced. Since I’ve now read a couple of interstellar stories, it felt normal after thinking about it. Just thought they could foreshadow it a bit more. And the romance of Mitte in the main story felt random too. I couldn't for the life of me understand what his deal with Greene was because it has been proven in the pain plot that Greene really isn't anything special. For Mitte, at least, Greene's genes aren't special, nor is his family special so why does Mitte have such a strong attachment to him. Or that the two had some secret childhood relationship that wasn't shown or something like that. It was only explained in the extra and it wasn't anything that deep lol. Also, the spotlight on that leader of Planet Yao? Hao? And his guide partner, as well as the fact that they had a previous relationship with one of the main antagonists, felt a little strange. When they came up, I honestly thought they were just random side characters like the Prince Novi gang. I felt like the author could have blended them into the story better and more smoothly. Honestly, I think if the story had been given to a professional editor to publish the book, it would have been good. Fix some things, clear some inconsistencies, add just a bit more detail to the system and money stuff and I think it would have been good.
Romance: 3.7/5
Romance is okay. I do like that the relationship didn't follow the typical uke seme yaoi or the lukewarm and vanilla fall-in-love with no real bumps/dumb misunderstandings path. I actually really like romance development! You will find the ML super argh at the beginning like a typical tsundere and the typical pushy, self entitled, boundary crossing dominant ML. And the MC is helpless to show his view that is different from the Ml’s on the relationship. But! After the ML realises he does like the MC, the first impression of a tsundere has soured the Mc’s view of him. So, too bad, so sad hahaha. C*ckblocked by his past self lolol. Then we see from there how the romance can happen because this is yaoi so it will. I love how the ML has to face the consequences of his oblivious arrogance hahaha. All the boundary crossing has realistic consequences! All my grievances about this type of selfish dominant Top were addressed here XD. But once they got together, I kinda just skipped all the s*x scenes because s*x scenes in web novels still make me cringe lol. So, near the end, I skimmed a lot of content because it became more lovey-dovey XP.
Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5
Pretty fun interstellar guide and sentinel world. It's the first type that has this trope and I liked it. It doesn't go too deeply psychologically into the intricacies involved in the dynamic which is a pity but it focuses on reducing or eliminating the preciousness of the guide in the equation. So the field is more equalised. And the guide can have more freedom because losing them isn't a giant blow.
I also love the whole system and pills thing. I wish it was more deeper and detailed like in The Legendary Master’s Wife, but it is good enough. There are details about the ingredients and pill effects, the MC never had any giant jumps in level which usually made it too unbelievable and broke my immersion. This was the best part, the level up was quite gradual, realistic, you can feel that some time passed by before the next level up or increase of income. It wasn't too fast. Sure, in the second part, the levelling up was less focused on because of the action and mystery but near the very end, the MC levelled up more quickly and rather briefly. But it all fit the flow of the story and the situation that made levelling up that quickly possible.
Characters: 4/5
The MC is pretty good as the MC. He's relatable, hardworking, independent and smart. The ML has good character development that was refreshing and engaging to read about haha. After that, though, he kinda became a normal OP, top, dotting, lover.
The side characters are all distinct and have their own personalities and pasts. They don't all revolve around the MC but usually have their own interests even if most of the time their interests are similar to the MC’s.
The antagonist felt big and bad throughout most of the story but they were defeated a bit too quickly and easily, lol. I was expecting a bit more anxiety for myself lol.
