I really, honestly began to hate most of the main characters at the end. But isn't that a mark of a good story, to evoke strong emotions even if it is one such as disgust? I think so at least.All in all I would recommend reading(because why not?) and give it a 3.5/5 to 4/5 due to a few plot holes, mainly of the MacGuffin and character variety, a logic plot hole umbrellaed underneath character. If you can survive those, and even if you can't, you can still find it to be an good read if you enjoy a more thorough take of a hierarchical society. <<less

Darrrkkkkk. If I could, I'd add a huge warning at the top, advising that this book is definitely not for you if sexual, physical, and emotional ab*se are something that causes you trauma. I try not to spoil things but here I can't help but say it's --mostly-- integral to the story and a reoccurring subject. That said, while reading it can be an extremely hard thing to stomach if you've been through it before, thinking back I (mostly)appreciate how they approached it. They didn't slap a sticker on them after it happened and make victimization be all that they were. I can see how some might say that they forgot/glossed over it almost too quickly and to an extent I agree, however, at the same time they may not have brandished it on a billboard in neon letters, but there were signs that it was still affecting her. Also, she'd been living with constant ab*se for years previously, though she didn't know it all the time; her body and mind were probably instinctively using the coping mechanisms she'd learned back then.If The Deep Sea Forgets You is a stellar name and a great way to pass the time. There's an interesting plot with more than enough strings to keep you tied to the story. Characters are lovable(though frustrating at times in typical fashion of this genre)and you find yourself empathizing and being intrigued by them fairly quickly. Those that translated and edited did an amazing job, with no part that I can recall being confusing or headache-inducing due to shoddy translating. A treat in itself really! When I was reading time seemed to slip away from me --like any good book should do-- and when I wasn't reading I was thinking about them and what I could do to make time for more reading.As a whole, If The Deep Sea Forgets You is good, but it could have been great. There's parts I seriously, seriously wished the author came back and rewrote. Like other commenters before me have stated, the ending felt too rushed, as if they tacked on some words to the bullet points from their outline to form a sentence then jammed it into an already bursting balloon. Having even just one extra chapter would have made a world of difference. That said everything was tied up at the end; a blessing in and of itself with so many novels left unfinished on here.The female lead was always portrayed as preferring to be a loner, so it felt extremely jarring when all of a sudden she had friends in school and started going out with them. Introducing at least one of those friends to the reader(these friends never had names) and how they met plus a scene or two of them interacting, though superfluous, would have made it flow better. Some actions of both leads were not cohesive with their characters and needed either an explanation or to be rewritten. For instance, Xia Qingyi prided herself on having almost precognitive instincts yet she gets hit with the female lead s*upidity bus, choosing to walk through secluded alleys devoid of people. Alone. Any woman on Earth will tell you that you go the long way unless there's no other choice. And if you do have to go that route? You've got some type of weapon(gun, taser, mace, etc.) or at the very least your keys clamped between your knuckles ready to stab a b*tch. And let's not forget the time that Mo Han was worried Han Liang would pull some even shadier sh*t after getting Xia Qingyi to agree to take a trip with him so declares he's coming too. BOTH GETTING IN HAN LIANG'S f*ckING CAR. SO HAN LIANG CAN DRIVE FOR HOURS OUT OF THE CITY. HOURS! ┻━┻︵ヽ (`Д´)ﾉ︵ ┻━┻ Also, can we talk about what is with so many of these stories trying to make out the male lead becoming "unable to control themselves" and forcing themselves upon the female lead as something romantic and swoon-worthy?? Jfc it's assault, authors, assault!But, strangely enough? If you're like me you can overlook many of the shortcomings(and choose to act like the kabedon'ing of poor MCs everywhere had never been an idea to jot down in any author's mind), to just enjoy having a new story to curl up with. While I wouldn't put it up there with my all-time favorites, I can see future me rereading this. <<less

Translation was overall fine, so 3-4/5. Some parts don't make much sense, and a few he's instead of she's/vice-versa are scattered here and there. However, the thing that really took me out of the story was when it'd randomly switch from third person to first. Sometimes right in the middle of the sentence. It happens a lot more in the beginning, but thankfully declines to where it's almost nonexistent the further you read. Translating is hard, but their translation team definitely, definitely has a solid start with potential to be one of the best. I'm eager to see how much they improve in later works and wouldn't hesitate to read another by them.  <<less

If you can pretend the beginning never happened(only for fiction people, only for fiction!), or just skim it until they're at the palace, then it's an intriguing read. The side story was also troubling, however no where near as bad as the highly, highly uncomfortable beginning. I really enjoyed one villain in particular as their contradictions felt human and side characters are so very lovable.

Translation was okay and is fully readable. It does need some mind-editing though. <<less

While many hated the ML's actions in one part, I thought it was the right call and sweet. To each their own. "Villians" were fully fleshed out and also sometimes endearing in their own way, one in particular.

Unfortunately the ending felt rushed, however, I don't recall there being anything that the author forgot to wrap up. Some things were confusing, and others kinda came out of left field, but overall it was a entertaining read.

Readable but not without a lot of constant mind editing. In line with the other translations on moonlight, incorrect pronouns are the worst offense. <<less

Story: 4.5/5 •A fresh, new twist to the genre makes for a sweetly exciting read. •FL is like a magical, non-singing Mary Poppins, but can switch to Miss Trunchbull from Matilda at neck-break speeds. While I don't mind that per se, it felt awkwardly out of character when done in front of Claude who gets the Poppins treatment exclusively. •Speaking of, usually I can't stand children but Claude is a treasure and I loved and cackled in delight at his delicious scheming. At points I jealousy wished I was able to play the same games he did. He's truly the MVP of the book. •The majority of other characters were fleshed out but some I... more>> wish I had just a tad bit more time with, Penelois in particular. Her supposed original persona, and other things mentioned she later does, are hard to accept when she's so maddeningly timid the majority of the time. That said, I had more than a few laughs at the antics of her and the adorable people encapsulated in this book. •Ending feels like a full, complete ending, however, there was a major part of history left out after more information came to light and I wish it had been shared between them instead of brushed under the rug.

Translation 3/5 •You can get the main plot easily enough, but there are quite a few sentences that I could not make sense of. •Periods were sometimes used instead of commas and vice versa, causing confusion when otherwise could have been easily understood the first read through. •Not many but a misgenderings here and there that can cause a hiccup. •Most noticeable-and jarring- was the plethora of repetitive adjectives/adverbs/participles(warmly warm, shyly shy, ugh, you get the idea). I hope the author didn't actually use these, but, if they did, I feel the translator taking liberties by using a thesaurus would have been wholly acceptable and welcomed. <<less
