Architectural Blueprint

Towering at the heart of Barcelona, the Sagrada Família is the life’s masterpiece of world-renowned architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction began in 1884 and has continued into the 21st century.

Even so, that hasn’t stopped it from being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, nor from holding a sacred place in the hearts of the Spanish people. The city of Barcelona, infused with the architect’s spirit and genius at every corner, has also earned the title "Gaudí’s city."

Xicheng went to Barcelona last month. He said the Sagrada Família is still surrounded by cranes, yet the area is packed with people—some lining up, some taking photos, the crowd so dense that not even a drop of water could squeeze through.

A master, indeed. Truly worthy of admiration.

Ever since I was young, I’ve dreamed of visiting Spain, of seeing Gaudí’s works with my own eyes, and becoming an architect like him. Even if I could never achieve his global acclaim, I’d still like to build a building in my hometown, embedding into it all the things I love. That way, every time I pass by it, I could tell myself: that’s my work. It represents me—my spirit, my dreams.

I want to be an architect. I want to build a house of my own.

P.S. Enough of the sentimental stuff. Back to practice exams. Why is physics so hard? At this rate, how am I going to get into any architecture program? Guess I’ll be repeating a year.
