Love this story so much because we only ever get to learn about scholars as one of the four classes. Any mentions would focus more on the imperial examinations or quick Confucian or Taoist references. This story however gets into the nitty gritty! It's such a great immersion into ancient Chinese scholarly culture, tbh. Like I now fully understand why scholars are treated with so much regard and prestige now bc the sh*t they write is literally art in and of itself. <<less
