When I first started reading on NU, I wished that there was a rec list with long descriptions of the novels so I knew what I'm getting myself into instead of having to check the synopsis of each individual novel. Couldn't find any, so I created one. Here it is. Arranged from best > worst > boring reading experience.

Disclaimer; my "reviews" are my own personal, biased opinions. I'm terrible at being systematic & putting my thoughts into effective sentences, so 90% of the novel descriptions in here are just me rambling. I usually only drop & rate novels after I've read at least until c.35. Also, I like to change my ratings & reviews sporadically. Feel free to suggest more novels and/or argue with me.

This novel has the BEST side characters ever. I was OBSESSED with MDZS and the Untamed. I couldn't stop thinking about this series. Unfortunately, by the time I'm typing this description, my obsession has died down considerably and I can no longer fangirl the same way I used to. Disclaimer! I consumed a little too much content and my memory is worse than Wei Wuxian. I often mix up canon details of the novel with the Untamed and fanfiction headcanons. I honestly recommend you read other people's reviews compared to my highly unreliable one.

Mischievous, clever, shameless & carefree MC. He started off as a troublemaker who seemingly didn't take anything seriously. Most people either saw him as a good-for-nothing crazy guy, or the coldblooded and merciless Yiling Laozu, the founder of demonic cultivation. But he's more than that. From the start, he's already a talented and promising youth. It's just that because of his tendency to be outspoken, he starts trouble with a lot of people, which in turn sabotaged himself in the long run. However, MC didn't care about what others thought of him. He's the type of MC who does what he thinks is right and will stick to it until the end despite the whole world going against him. His true personality is warm, caring and selfless. I'm seriously in love with him.

ML was one of the people who had misgivings about MC at first. He started off cold and didn't get along with MC. After ML got to know MC better, he eventually warmed up to him and it wasn't long before the cold ML fell in love with the warm MC. I can't imagine the pain ML must've felt when MC died. I loved reading ML's character development. And when they reunited again... ahh, it's amazing. Their love is the most realistic one out of the three MXTX novels in my opinion. But also one of the most hilarious! Their PDA man... and the smut... -///-) *coughs* It's great.

Plot-wise, it's mostly supernatural and detective-work. I'm not super into it honestly, but it's well-written. As I said, side characters are best in MDZS compared to the other MXTX novels. They all felt alive; 3D characters with their own thinking and motivations that felt so real that they could probably exist as real people. I got attached without realising, especially with MC's adoptive family (and the Wen clan branch too if you count that as 'family'). You have no idea how many times I've cried to the angst between MC and his two adoptive siblings. Anyway, antagonists' stories & motivations were well-thought-out and I'm still kind of shook at the twist at the end. MXTX somehow manages to make me pity the "villains" and I'm in this complicated love-hate relationship with them. They're manipulative, cunning, and in no way "good people" but MXTX manages to humanize them just enough for me to sympathise and cry for them. The (non-cannon) side ships are tragic but I love & still think about them a lot.

Some say that if a novel is truly good, you'll want to re-read it over and over again. And while that's true for most cases, this novel is an exception for me. Reading this novel felt like experiencing a past life for me. And it was TRAUMATIZING. I never, ever, want to touch this novel again. Not because it's bad, but because it's TOO good. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I fell in love, I questioned my own morals, and I even felt like I had character development after finishing it. It haunted me for weeks and months. Every time I see a TGCF fanwork, I run. I was even terrified of watching the anime/donghua. TLDR; it's an experience. This novel is beautiful and brought me a lot of joy and equally as much angst. I'm not kidding. Beware of the 2nd and 4th book. I cried like a big baby from book 4 all the way to the end of book 5.

First off, the amount of unconditional and pure love the MC and ML have for each other is astounding. To be honest, ML's love for MC has gone past the point of standard romantic love. ML literally LIVES for MC. MC is his God, MC is his first love, and MC is his sole purpose for living. ML has been in love with MC for more than 800 years. If MC passed on, ML wouldn't hesitate to follow. You might think he's the classic possessive, yandere kind of guy. Well, yes, but actually no. He is, but he's not overbearing AT ALL. His main priority is always the MC's feelings, and he even thinks that he himself is not worthy of the MC's love.

My first impression of the MC was that he was too nice for his own good. And, while that's true, he's definitely a flawed character and isn't completely innocent either. His selfless and self-deprecating personality was a product of all the shitty things he's been through for the last 800 years. He was once a prince of a flourishing kingdom and worshipped as a great martial God, praised wherever he went and admired by many. Now, he's a laughingstock of all realms, the tr*sh-Collecting God. When he needed them most, almost everyone in his life had left him. Almost, with the exception of ML. While ML's love for him is like an obsession, his love for ML is more pure and mellow. It's soft, it's fluffy, and it felt natural. In fact, ML is also the only reason why MC is still alive. They contrast yet complement each other perfectly - and this is why they're my favourite couple out of all three MXTX novels.

Side characters are likeable, but unfortunately not as much as MDZS. I have to say, some plot points felt a little draggy and too long - I admit, I did skim a lot of it. However, the main "villain"'s scheme is so well-thought-out that I have to applaud MXTX once again for her genius mind. Unlike in MDZS, I didn't feel a shred of pity for this villain character. I hated them until the end. Not because they were written badly, no, there was just nothing to sympathise with. Their sins outweighed my pity for them.

You'd think that this novel is full of dog-blood drama, and it is, but not from the brothers. In fact, the brothers are probably the cutest characters ever. I love them so much. Their character development is amazing. They start off cold and hostile towards MC because of their previous grudges & prejudices against the original body. However, after spending time with the MC, the brothers basically become full-time bro-cons and dote on the MC a lot. Even so, they care for MC in their own unique ways and I absolutely adore all their interactions.

MC is smart, caring and hardworking - very likeable. He goes from weak to strong and fat to fit. It was really satisfying to watch his growth in terms of abilities, strength and appearance. Some say he's OP, and I half-disagree. He's definitely a powerful guy, but I personally think it's realistic because of his experience as a policeman in his past life. Plus, he doesn't completely understand everything that's happening. He's appropriately dense when it comes to the inner workings of the underworld. Though the death progress bar informs him whenever danger is near, he doesn't know exactly what said "danger" is. Despite that, he still tries his best to protect everyone. His genuineness and sincerity make him a very alluring character to me. The things that *actually* push him to the 'OP MC' category are his system and the buffs. Although the author tries to balance this by giving him consequences to using the buffs, his system is still an OP golden finger for sure and I can see why people say he's "overpowered" in this perspective.

Meanwhile, ML is the boss of Annihilation, a major criminal organization in the underworld that's secretly working with the government. He's highly intelligent, perceptive, cold-serious with a cunning mind, but he's also a selfless person and is very caring towards his subordinates/allies. He's the kind of reliable character that makes you subconsciously relax whenever he's on-screen. Unfortunately, ML's legs are paralysed due to various reasons and his health is deteriorating because of his lack of self-care. Of course, MC helps him recover back to normal.

At first, MC takes care of him only because if ML dies, MC will also die. However, MC starts catching feelings for ML as they go on. Their romance feels very natural and very sweet - I love every single second of it. It's kind of touching to see how much MC has changed ML for the better in terms of ML's tendency to stay closed-off from others and his lack of self-care. If it weren't for MC, ML would have still refused to get treatment for his legs. Meanwhile, ML helps MC deal with his family matters, his education, and wholeheartedly supports him in every decision he makes while also giving him advice. Ahh, they're really good for each other.

Side characters are very likeable and the "villains" are actually pretty interesting. I don't think I can name a single "villain" character that was 2-dimensional or only exist to spite MC. Everyone had a story and their own motivations. The truth behind the original owner's family was also brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out in the end.

Less than five death cycles later, Mr. "Homophobic, Totally-Straight" ML: "Advisor Ji, I think this is my first time seeing you smiling. *Coughs* Looks pretty good."

Oh look, here comes the yearly mega big-brain unlimited flow novel that makes my pea-sized brain feel microscopic. Incredibly intelligent, apathetic, calm MC. His personality makes him an unintentional comedy king. The type to hold petty grudges, but would repay kindness in kind (or at least that's what he says). He wasn't born with eidetic memory, rather, his condition has a close connection to his childhood trauma. That's... all I can really say about him.

Captain of the seventh squad, arrogant, blunt, and, I quote the synopsis; "a hoodlum and deeply homophobic" ML -- or so I thought. It's all very exaggerated advertising from the author. Not completely false, but not nearly as bad as it sounds. I was expecting a whole lot more dramatic bullying or at least some really offensive verbal ab*se, but all I got were playground-level insults and petty, mildly-insensitive remarks. The author has a reason behind why he acts "homophobic" (yes, you guessed it -- the reason is trauma). He's a genuinely good guy tho. Great leader. Loves to tease & joke around. Very protective and caring towards his squad members, and that includes MC as well even before they got to know each other better.

As always with these big-brain unlimited flow novels, the MC-ML has perfect synergy and strong tacit understanding in the life-or-death instances, but they're two clowns when it comes to real-life stuff lol. The romance doesn't start until much later. Though arguably, they're pretty much flirting with each other in the early chapters already - or maybe that's just me with my rose-colored glasses. The s*xual tension is real. Their progression felt natural to me for the most part. I really love how MC slowly learns to trust and open up to ML. My only gripe is that the author uses the cliche "unnecessary misunderstandings" trope (though not often, but still). It's funny and silly and quirky or whatever I guess, but I've seen WAY too much of it in danmei nowadays. Couldn't help but roll my eyes.

Anything to do with time, most authors usually avoid it because of its complexity. The author is really just built different. Not only do they write a whole novel surrounding the concept of time in a futuristic setting, but they also made it intriguing, believable, and somehow make sense (but also not really at the same time? I don't even know anymore. I kid you not, throughout this entire novel, I understood everything yet nothing at the same time, all the time. Like, I get it, but also I don't get it. But I get it.... but I don't. You'll probably understand this feeling once you read it lol). The elements of time travel, time loops, and multiple timelines are executed ingeniously in this novel. It might be overwhelming to some readers though. It's all up to your patience level and preferences. Just be prepared to be confused half of the time. The world-building is incredibly fascinating. All the world set-ups and mysteries/puzzles are also very interesting. Solving one mystery would open up another one plus a dozen more questions, which all lead to even more mysteries and questions... it's a cursed cycle. I f*cking love it.

I can tell that the author puts a lot of thought into their writing and pays a lot of attention to the details; sprinkling in subtle hints and foreshadowing that you might have not even noticed until you read the novel a second time. All the arcs are so well-written. I've never had a novel slap me so many times in the face before. The plot twists don't feel cheap or forced. In fact, they don't feel like "twists" at all to me; once the author explains it, I realise the truth was in front of me the whole time and I was just not smart enough to piece together the subtle clues lol. The side characters in the seventh squad are surprisingly pretty adorable & wholesome too! Very cute squad dynamic.

ENDING SPOILERS! ; The ending... damn this novel is good. I'm gonna be honest, Rubik's Cube arc was sort of underwhelming for me, and the subsequent arc after that felt lacking as well compared to arcs 1-3. I knew it was meant to be a vacation arc of sorts, but the change of pace was so jarring; it felt like I was suddenly reading a cliche high-school slice of life romance novel. The moment I let my guard down thinking everything's just going to be smooth-sailing romance fluff, the ending arc happened and I got slapped -- no no, I got brutally mu*dered. My dead body tossed into space's orbit. It's brilliant. <<less

Two words; beautifully depressing. No, there's no mpreg and no, the spore doesn't grow up to be a human child. First off, the world-building in this novel is amazing. Even as someone who's not a big fan of both dystopia and sci-fi, I was still able to understand most things and thoroughly enjoyed the story. For context, this novel is set in an apocalypse wasteland but instead of zombies, you have Gene Pollution and mutated monsters/beasts. For the safety of the people within Northern Base, the 'Judge's Act' system was implemented. Before entering the base, everyone has to go for a Trial at the gates in order to ensure that no heterogeneous (infected people or non-humans/xenogenics) slip inside. The person in charge of determining whether someone is human or heterogeneous/xenogenic is referred to as a Judge. Those who are judged to be infected are executed on the spot.

Naive but strong MC. MC is non-human to begin with, so please don't turn away from this novel just because of the naive protagonist tag. The novel revolves around him going undercover as a sentient xenogenic in a human society; exploring the different sides of humanity, experiencing all sorts of emotions, falling in love for the first and last time.

Misunderstood, cold and strong ML who has more faith in the survival of humanity than anyone else. ML is a Colonel & Judge with extraordinary observation skills and exceptional intuition, his accuracy score reaching 100%. He will exterminate any xenogenic and non-human entities that he identifies on the spot; (however, MC's mutation seemingly goes undetected by his sharp senses). Many misunderstand his actions as him mu*dering indiscriminately. As a result, most people fear or hate him in the base. Yet, despite the criticism and hatred directed towards him, ML remains dedicated to his duty and does his best to protect whoever he can.

Basically, their status dynamic is non-human MC x non-human exterminator ML. Yet, MC and ML interactions are mostly hilarious and fluffy. They are the bright light at the end of this hella dark tunnel. I could read about ML teasing MC for the rest of my life and I'd be satisfied. Romance can be considered to be slow but the pacing felt right and natural to me. Their love is truly one of its kind.

This novel made me sweat. It was like I was right there in the chaos of the apocalypse. The despair, the bleakness, the hopelessness of it - it felt so real. The lines between what's right and wrong are so blurry that I don't know which side to root for. On one side are those who do everything for the sake of humanity's survival as a whole, sacrificing their own humanity in the process. On the other side are those who wish for freedom and their rights. However, one cannot live without the other. The side characters, even the background ones, felt alive. Everyone had their own principles, motivations and moral standpoints. When the author killed off characters, even if I didn't know them for long, it was distressing for me to read. I almost couldn't believe that this novel would end in a HE. I'm so happy it did. Reading the ending felt like finding an oasis after walking in a barren desert for years.

MC: Relax, I got this. I'll ab*se the sh*t out of these s*um bastards. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Damn, MC’s back must hurt from carrying the entire novel lol. I kid you not, this is definitely THE best quick-transmigration novel you're gonna find on NU. Each world is amazingly written, most of them are original and can probably bring you to tears. Every time I take a break from this, I literally cannot stop thinking about the MC and ML. And every time I come back to continue reading, I never need to refresh my memory on what happened from where I left off. For a goldfish-brain reader like me who basically forgets most things after a week, that's a big accomplishment.

Cunning, intelligent and charming MC. Although he's normally strong and relatively powerful, MC doesn't know everything right off the bat and has major weaknesses of his own that he needs to face. It's fun to see him kicking the scums' asses in each arc and interacting with the original hosts.

ML is MC's SYSTEM - this is a minor spoiler that I need to say in order to finish this description - and they share a past together as childhood friends. The angst! The fluff! I don't understand how the author can stir me up so badly with just a few sentences. Their interactions are so adorably sweet that when paired with their bittersweet past, it makes me go 'aww' and cry at the same time. Probably one of the healthiest (and angsty) BL relationships I've ever read. Mutual pining, lots of flirting, lots of fluff, and of course, lots of slow burn.

Arcs are amazing - most of them are pretty original and they're around 20-30 chapters long. Don't be turned off by that count though; it's totally worth it. In every arc, MC helps out the original hosts take revenge on their super abusive, toxic partners. Not only does MC help them take revenge, however; he also helps the original hosts to move on from their trauma and live a better life. But that's not all there is to the plot. Aside from the s*um "villains" in the arcs, MC and ML also have to deal with an external "villain". So far, I'm not sure exactly how threatening this external "villain" is but definitely an interesting plot set-up.

《Abusive Romance》Novel: “Due to an overabundance of plot holes, this story has been rejected by its readers. Thus, the most popular character among the readers has been selected to personally verify the story’s consistency, and make suitable changes.”

Readers: “Why doesn’t the female lead like the Devil Venerable?!” (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻

MC, sneering: “This Venerable also wants to know. But what I really want to know is why I even like the female lead at all.” (ಠ_ಠ)

Sect leader; cold, dispassionate & intelligent seme MC whose moral compass is surprisingly tame for a demon lord. The type to never be able to sleep at night if he has a burning, unanswered question in his mind, and prefers to face his problems head-on. After reading the novel, he gets so curious that he decides to go out to meet the FL in order to understand why his novel-self’s IQ deteriorated so drastically to the point where he sacrificed his life for something as ridiculous as love. From there, he finds out that things aren’t as simple as they seem. The “plot holes” in the novel weren’t really plot holes (*coughs* more like holes in the FL’s brain), characters weren’t as brainless as they appeared to be, and the 《Abusive Romance》 novel isn’t the only novel to suddenly materialise into his world…

ML is MC’s right-hand man. Intelligent, deeply loyal, and fully devoted to MC. Cold, reticent, and vicious to everyone else, but obedient and deferential to his master. Is it loyalty and dedication, or is it abandonment issues and codependency; who knows? He’s so cute. And terrifying; I’d let him refine me into lamp oil any day. His character development is amazing. He became someone who wanted to protect MC but was too weak to do it, into a ferocious & beastly powerhouse who's as dangerous, if not more, as MC himself. He’s so badass at the end hahaha.

In the beginning, MC treats ML just like any other subordinate. Obviously, as the leader of a demonic sect full of backstabbing snakes, he can’t afford to trust anyone except himself. After reading the novel though, MC was moved by ML’s devotion to him (in the novel). Subconsciously, MC started to pay more attention to him and treated him better. Seeing ML’s honest devotion and loyalty, ML quickly becomes the only person MC trusts and can rely on in the whole world. Meanwhile, ML treated himself as nothing more than an obedient tool for MC at first, never daring to overstep the boundaries set by himself. Even after realising his feelings for MC, he doesn’t dare to wish for anything more. As the novel goes on, he gradually learns to think for himself and act on his own desires, no longer suppressing and hiding his true self from MC. He stops putting MC on an impossibly high pedestal, finally seeing MC as flesh and blood i.e a person like him instead of an untouchable lofty god.

Their romance is slow-burn; barely anything at all in the first half. ML’s mental health degrades a lot in the mid-late parts due to various reasons that I can’t say ('cause spoilers). ML’s personality is dark in nature. I won’t lie — he does show the tendencies of a possessive yandere. Don’t worry though, he's not overbearing and doesn't force his feelings towards MC. He remains a mostly respectful and loyal simp to the end; and he won't hesitate to refine anyone who slanders MC into lamp oil lol (sorry but I can't stop making this joke). When the romance part happens, it’s very exciting. MC (finally) realises both his own and ML’s feelings towards him, then he goes all googly-eyed while watching ML show his true colors. I swear ML is a better fit for a sect leader than MC is hahaha. Truly a pair of ruthless, vicious demon husbands.

Side characters are shockingly likeable (*cough* Shu Yanyan my queen *cough*). Anyway, the FL is actually quite a pitiful character. I originally felt bad for her, but the author really did her dirty. She has an incredible talent for irritating the soul out of me. I was so annoyed that it completely devoured any form of sympathy I had for her. The novel’s scummy male lead (not ML) was even worse. Every time FL, the s*um male lead, and his 2D brainless goons are on-screen I get the uncontrollable urge to jump off a nearby cliff. Fortunately, FL improves by the end of the novel. The s*um male lead though? Watch me transmigrate and refine him into lamp oil.

ENDING SPOILERS! ; the ending is quite interesting. It actually aligns with my own (I admit, kind of outlandish) theory of how novels/stories are created. I’m sure every reader has read at least one legendary novel that’s so impossibly well-written and complex that makes you think, “How can an ordinary human write this masterpiece?” Same. And my belief is that every piece of fiction is merely the author’s interpretation of events that occur in another dimension or world, in a separate plane of existence than ours. It sounds ridiculous but my point is that I love how the author decided to end this. Plus, as far as I’m aware, every plothole was filled up nicely and every loose end was tied up into a neat little bow. All-round satisfaction.

Anyway, ain’t it crazy how a relationship between two psycho demon lords is more respectful and healthy than most danmei (the romance genre in general, actually) couples? Heck, even Shu Yanyan, a demonic cultivator who thrives on dual cultivation and s*x prioritizes mutual consent. That’s already better than a lot of couples in romance fiction lol. <<less

This novel haunted me for weeks. Whenever I saw or heard 'Chu Wanning' or 'Mo Ran', my mind would have this weird PTSD-like flashback to moments in the novel and I'd start tearing up lmao. Anyway, if you love MXTX and her knives, beware that Meatbun is even more generous with shooting knives at your face as you read this. Please read the tags & warnings! The MC has done terrible, terrible things (r*pe) to the ML, but he goes through a LOT of character development and becomes a better person. If you're not into heavy plots with dark elements, this probably isn't for you.

Ruthless and dumbass disciple seme MC. MC started off as annoyingly childish with unreasonable temper tantrums and always thinking badly of the ML because of the misunderstandings they had in their previous life. However, as he spends more time with his cold shizun who he thought of as irredeemable s*um in his heart, he uncovers truths he had never known before. Frankly, the first hundred chapters or so were very hard for me to get through. Not because it was written badly. I just couldn't stop hating the MC which in turn made me feel bad for the ML.

Fortunately, his character development was amazing. The author is incredible at writing flawed but likeable characters and satisfying character development. I thought I could never forgive him for the awful things he did to ML. As the story went on, I found out more about his past and the REAL reason behind his attitude, I sympathised and cried for him. I could feel his regret, his hatred for himself, his confusion, his insecurity, and most importantly, his sincerity for the ML. I can't say that I forgive him but I can't say that I hate him either. It's a complicated feeling, to say the least.

ML, on the other hand, is a reticent, cold, thin-faced, and prideful shizun who can't express himself for the life of him. I get frustrated with him a lot because most of his problems would've easily been solved if he weren't such a thin-faced and prideful man. But he is, and this is his personality, and I can't do anything about it. Due to his tendency to never explain his actions to anyone, he is easily misunderstood by most people to be a ruthless, unfeeling, cold man. Of course, while he is indeed ruthless to who deserves it, on the inside he's very insecure and his heart is bigger than anyone in this novel. It was especially heartbreaking to read about him watching as the MC, the only person he loved, actively pursue someone else right in front of him. MC had also blamed him for things he wasn't responsible for, mistreat him, and hurt him so many times. Yet, ML endured all of the misunderstandings. His character development was also satisfying.

**Something to note; although ML had no plans at all of pursuing a romantic relationship with MC, ML did have some feelings for MC when MC was still a disciple i.e underage -- which is questionable and very weird.

Side characters are great. Although I didn't care for most initially, I grew attached without realising. Everyone was flawed, and they had their own motivations, beliefs and stories that I could sympathise with. Similarly to the "true mastermind" behind all this. Sure, the "mastermind" is manipulative and cunning, but it's hard for me to hate them. Really, all the characters in this novel need a hug and therapy session after all this honestly. And I need a hug and a cup of tea after finishing 200+ chapters of angst in one day.

Obligatory MXTX novel. It's flawed and not her best, but one of my personal favourites regardless though teacher-student relationships make me puke. If you're worried about pe*ophilia or any weird g*ooming from the MC, there's none. MC doesn't even think about romance until, much, MUCH later. I can say for sure now that the main CP is better AFTER the novel ends, so don't expect much from the novel/canon content. I highly encourage you to read the extras and the main CP's fanfiction instead - they're the best parts of this fandom.

MC is your local crackhead 21st-century book-nerd & NEET who transmigrates as a cold, aloof cultivation master. You can imagine the chaos. On the outside, he plays an elegant, poised and strict persona while on the inside, he's just cursing at everything but also fanboying at the same time. His inner monologues are so good. Although he's a dense MC, I think it works and makes everything funnier most of the time. He also tries his best to make up for ML's shitty childhood, though he doesn't do a particularly good job at it.

ML starts off as a hardworking, white lotus (innocent) youth who admires his shizun very much. A little too much. Unfortunately, he grows up and blackens. Blackened ML is possessive, has major trust & abandonment issues, and borderline yandere. Although, he doesn't treat MC as an object and genuinely respects him a lot. Just that sometimes his emotions get the better of him (+ his sword, Xin Mo's influence). A lot of people are turned off from this novel because of him and I don't blame them. This novel is way too short to showcase his potential character growth as a better person, and MXTX (the author) didn't really put closure on ML's trauma even at the end.

Regarding the hate Luo Binghe (ML) gets, I totally understand. Even my first time reading through this novel, I didn't like him at all. It's only after reading the extras, tons of fanfiction and spending time in the SVSSS fandom that I started to begrudgingly grow fond of him. I think it's going to take a LOT of time and healing for ML to become a better person and I reiterate once again that this novel is too short to show that growth. I feel that it's unfair to treat his insecurities, possessiveness and extreme fear of abandonment as simple novel troupes rather than something he's developed naturally as a character due to his past.

Though saying that, I'm not going to defend ML's questionable actions. I acknowledge that he does have a lot of trauma and issues that explain why he acted as he did in the novel, but it still doesn't justify his actions against the MC. Still, he's one of my favourite characters of all time. I only ask of you, no matter how much you like or dislike ML, that you don't compare him to other MXTX MLs. Also, I feel it's important to mention I'm 99% sure that; no, he didn't f*ck MC's corpse, thank you very much.

Regarding people saying that MC doesn't love ML and only stayed to pacify his anger or whatever; no. His love and care for ML changed from platonic to romantic in a very, very subtle way. Sure, he did fear ML for a bit once ML got out of the Abyss because he misunderstood, thinking that ML was angry. But after their misunderstandings were cleared out, it's definitely clear that MC genuinely cares for ML in the end. I would argue that MC has cared for both teen ML and adult ML from the very start, even before he transmigrated. One of the main reasons why MC continued reading the original novel was for ML, after all. Something that doesn't sit right with me though is the fact that MC never revealed the transmigration thing to ML, probably not even post-canon. It leaves a lot of unanswered questions for the ML. Even if MC doesn't feel as attached to his previous life anymore, it's definitely best to tell the whole truth to the person you love and are spending your entire life with. TLDR; MC loves ML & I'm pissed that the author doesn't write MC revealing his transmigration. At least give the ML some closure, goddammit.

One of the things I love about this novel though is definitely the side characters. Most of them are likeable *coughs* Liu Qingge *coughs*. Although, I'm miffed 1) at how almost everyone didn't give a sh*t about original Shen Qingqiu blatantly abusing ML, 2) at how everyone ignored SQQ suddenly becoming nice and going OOC 3) that we never get to explore more about Shen Jiu, the original goods. There was so much potential to that storyline, but we only get brief flashbacks and there was no closure between Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan 4) on that note, I'd like to mention that the author LOVES not putting closure on characters in this novel. Liu Qingge's fruitless unrequited love for the MC, original!ML's excursion to the current world in the extras, the original SQQ's past, generally everything that happened in the original novel's timeline, and MC never revealing his transmigration to the ML. So much plot potential just left lying around with no conclusion. It's tragic. As tragic as SVSSS's starving fandom.

The premise sounds extremely cliche but I assure you that the story isn’t just a simple stereotypical dogblood faceslapping story! Unpredictable madman, lowkey psychopathic MC; he’s merciless, arrogant, and strong. Intelligent, perceptive, and extremely vengeful (read: petty). His only weaknesses are school academics and love (lol). He shows little to no interest in anything else besides fighting, power/strength, food, and a good night of sleep. He just waltzes around the place doing whatever the hell he wants without an ounce of shame or fear like the absolute king he is. No one is exempt from MC’s retaliation once they provoke him, whether it be a man, a woman, the elderly, children, or even ML himself lol. Of course, the severity of his retaliation is in proportion to their provocation. He seems like someone with no morals (true for the most part) but he won’t bite unless provoked, and his moral compass is still upright towards innocent people & animals. Still, almost anything “good” that he does is more out of self-interest rather than kindness — though the moment he forms a genuine bond with someone, he will protect and fight tooth and nail for that person to the end (*cough* ML). He’s also a hardworking overachiever who likes to set ambitious goals for himself and will put in all of his effort, pushing himself to the very edge of his limits, to reach his goals. He won’t let anyone trample or talk sh*t about him; and the way he retaliates is always hilariously unhinged. Very fun and charming protagonist, albeit a little Gary-Stu.

High-ranking military general ML, also a madman and lunatic second only to MC (truly a match made in heaven). He’s intelligent, powerful, strong, extremely territorial, and two-faced; the type to be all smiles on the outside but mu*derous on the inside. Honestly, compared to the MC, he’d be better suited to be the villain that the SYSTEM is looking for lol. Highly skilled in everything except for matters outside of business and fighting. He’s especially inept in the “emotions” department. Although he’s friendly on the outside, ML is a solitary and inherently antisocial person; he doesn’t want to involve himself or share his space with other people unless absolutely necessary. Of course, this changes when MC comes into his life, slowly wiggling and casually entering his territory — to which, ML will eventually come to welcome the intrusion with open arms.

I love how the early set-up of the novel implies that their relationship dynamic would be like two bloodthirsty tigers fighting for dominance, trying to destroy the other person, but during their first meeting they were literally staring into each other’s eyes and calling the other person handsome inside their heads LOL and then they instantly went to passive aggressive flirting mode. I can’t even with these two [laughing facepalm emoji]. Still, their actual relationship does indeed start off extremely rocky, with neither wanting to concede and both wanting nothing to do with the other. With incentives from the SYSTEM, MC begrudgingly attempts to get closer to ML, and ML begins to show interest in him.

As they learn more about the other person, they start to warm up; mutually supporting and helping each other whenever they can without asking for anything in return. At first, the MC only sees ML as a way to get his OP powers back from his previous life, but eventually he becomes earnest in winning him over as a friend and partner. They grow from mutual dislike, to begrudging tolerance, to a genuine friendship, and finally, lovers. I love their interactions so much! They’re so straightforward towards each other. You can see just how much they respect, appreciate, and care for the other person. While they’re normally bickering and bantering like children, they know when to be serious when they need to be. Most importantly; they have open communication! Meaning no prolonged annoying misunderstandings! Hurrah! Even though sometimes they might need a second or two to think things through, they will quickly speak their mind and tell the honest truth after they come to a conclusion about their own feelings. I love them so much, seriously! They understand each other so well. I didn’t expect that the ‘madman x madman’ dynamic would be so healthy LOL.

The plot development feels quite fun and unique to me. I thought the plot would be laser-focused on faceslapping and family drama only, but there’s actually a lot more to it. In fact, the dog blood family drama isn’t even in the main focus of the plot at all. The plot gives you power-cultivating segments where MC is training himself and fighting criminals & monsters; you get MC’s “campus life” at the military academy; you get wholesome domestic life segments with ML & his family; you get a chunk with intensive but interesting world-building; of course, you also get the satisfying faceslapping from the family drama; you get a bit of “showbiz”-esque parts; and you also get military/army management. So many plot aspects but it’s all told in a coherent and fun sequence that doesn’t overwhelm you in one go but instead hooks you in even further; I love it. Not to mention the soulmarks/soulbonds subplot with the ML, the story of ML’s past, and also the story of MC’s past in the apocalypse as well. This novel’s got a lot of plot variety and a surprising amount of depth to its story. Very entertaining read!

Problematic novel warning! Horrifyingly hilarious and entertaining read, but definitely not for readers who can't stand a "romance" with dark and twisted elements. As for me, I absolutely fell in love with this novel from the moment I read the synopsis. The hidden identity trope has always been my kryptonite, not to mention the premise of s*umbag MC x s*umbag ML (s), and emotional gong-ab*se. I thought I'd be disgusted with the abusive, toxic gongs (and yes, I am) but it's so much fun to read the MC win those s*umbags' hearts over, and then tr*sh them as they deserve.

MC is a cunning, manipulative bastard who acts perfectly like an innocent white lotus. On the inside, he's a just h**ny pe*vert and former gong. Sadistic to the bone. The 7 MLs are all crazy a**holes but MC's mind is probably far worse than all of them combined. After all, he is the one who "wrote" and "created" all of them in the first place. For MC, understanding the MLs is basically like looking inside his own mind. Scheming and manipulating others is as easy as breathing to the MC. So don't waste your pity on him, haha! He enjoys it anyway. Plus, all the schemes he comes up with are quite interesting & entertaining.

The MLs are based on the Seven Deadly Sins. I do pity them a little bit for falling in love with the MC though. I can't say much other than you'll definitely enjoy seeing them getting ab*sed by MC. The characters are all messed up and shitty in their own ways, especially the MC who proudly shows off just exactly how f*cked up he is. He's intelligent and extremely manipulative; a stellar actor who puts up the most believable and heart-wrenching plays, but he's not omnipotent and he does make mistakes/miscalculations in his plans. Despite that, he easily adapts to any situation and always finds a way to twist a scenario to his favor. It's really hard to hate him as a reader because of how charming he is, despite his sheer a**holery and the fact that he carries the biggest red flag in the universe.

Like I've said before, I have a major weak spot against the 'hidden identity' trope and oh, MC does a wonderful job at manipulating and tricking everyone with it. My only (personal) gripe is that the timeline keeps jumping back and forth after the Greed/Lust arc, and while I totally understand the purpose of it in terms of the plot, the flow and storytelling can be confusing sometimes. There are also times where the plot seems unnecessarily convoluted and rushed, especially the parts nearing the ending. And yet, nonetheless, 99% of the time I find myself laughing out loud (in public, like an idiot) in surprise at MC's unexpected antics and schemes.

Just when I think that I finally can predict where the plot is going, something hilariously crazy happens and it hooks me into it even more. Just when I think that I finally understand one of the characters, they act the opposite of my expectations. Just when I think that I'm not particularly fond of a certain character, the author twists him around and he effortlessly charms my pants off and steals my heart.

I think the driving force in my enjoyment of this novel definitely lies within the interactions between MC and all the different MLs, as well as MC's sneaky and cunning schemes against each one, and how they all interconnect in the end.

ENDING SPOILERS! ; I predicted that the author would use the good ol' "fuse him all into one guy (ML)" trope, and for a while, I was procrastinating on finishing this novel just because I didn't want to see that cliche ending. However! Much to my surprise; what the author did with the ML's fusion was exactly how I wanted it to be. Everyone fused together as one, but not melded into another person entirely -- they're still their own separate personalities, and I still get to enjoy their different dynamics despite being fused into one. I really love what the author did with the epilogue/ending, although I do still think that the way the author wrapped everything up felt very rushed and underdeveloped. <<less

MC; Look, I like history and all, but that doesn't mean I wanna experience it firsthand, alright? What did I do to deserve this?! I was just doing my job! QAQ

Analytical, logical, "calm outside, panic inside", reticent MC. I’d say he’s pretty intelligent, especially when it comes to history and political matters. One thing I really like about him is that he doesn't try to hug the ML's thighs or openly act nice (aka OOC). He instead tries for a more realistic approach in terms of treating the ML. However, this only makes him look like a tsundere trying very hard to be mean to his crush in ML's eyes. It’s so funny haha. More so because for some reason, he’s only terrible at acting in front of ML. When he’s out in public, he suddenly becomes an Oscar-winning actor. Also just a heads-up, when describing MC's illness in the early chapters, the author does romanticize his sickly appearance for a bit but don't worry, it doesn't happen anymore after a certain point where MC's illness stabilizes.

Extremely perceptive, ruthless, calculating, cautious, cold, and also reticent ML. Scary at first glance, but he’s actually quite honorable, surprisingly nice, and even caring to those who deserve it. Very affection-starved. Quite a cute guy actually, if you manage to look past his death stares. Also an absolute macho gigachad. This man carried MC with one hand while rolling his wheelchair with the other hand hahaha. He's got that boyish/roguish charm to him, and is unexpectedly mischievous.

Semi-slowburn romance. MC and ML get off on a rocky start. Obviously, ML is hostile and cautious towards everyone since he’s on enemy territory - meanwhile, MC is busy trying to figure out how to deal with his current situation. They slowly warm up to each other as the story goes on. ML steadily falls for MC, albeit through the power of misunderstandings at first. MC, however; falls for ML in a more organic way. I like his slow, gradual shift from being cautious and wary 24/7 to having a comfortable companionship with ML Basically, power couple who can scare off just about everyone with just their cold stares alone.

To be honest, with this novel being a political palace intrigue, I thought there was going to be unnecessary drama where some cannonfodder concubines try to sabotage the ML. Just when I thought it was about to happen, it flipped the switch on me. I wasn't expecting it at all - I was caught so off guard that my jaw actually dropped lol. In hindsight, a lot of the information & descriptions regarding certain characters are mostly red herrings and misleading, especially about the original host. I really like it, actually. You never really know what’s false and what’s true at first glance. I’m surprised - there's more substance to this novel than I expected.

Having said that, there are still annoying cannonfodder servants and palace officials stirring up trouble everywhere, so... nevermind, my pain still exists. And, of course, the author uses misunderstandings as a plot device. Sigh. While it can be entertaining and funny at times, it's still kind of irritating. Fortunately, once their feelings are more or less mutual and they understand each other a lot better, the misunderstandings trope ease up a lot.

Side characters are surprisingly likable. Even the servant Meng Qianshan that I found really annoying at first grew on me quite a lot. Sadly, despite placing a very interesting set-up of side characters, the author barely does anything with them which lowkey disappointed me. Adding on to what I said before about how there's more to the story than what MC knows, I was really expecting some kind of big payoff from that too — but nothing substantial came out of it. Nonetheless, its little flaws doesn't take away from it being a surprisingly enjoyable read.

Abusive braindead “angsty” dogblood novel featuring the typical “consensual non-consent” (rape) + s*umbag MC & s*umbag gongs alert! The premise is nothing new, but I still find it entertaining anyway. I was actually procrastinating on reading this initially but I somehow ended up binge-reading it to the end anyway lmfao. Basically MC is stuck as a “damsel in distress” slag shou protagonist character who gets ruthlessly ab*sed by 5 pe*verted s*um gongs. Each of the 5 gongs has their own scummy gimmicks and abusive romance plotlines involving the weak-willed white lotus protagonist character, who serves as a “substitute” for the gongs’ white moonlight (if you’ve read novels like these before, you know how it goes).

Fortunately, our MC is anything but weak-willed. After transmigrating through so many different worlds and facing all sorts of characters, MC’s moral compass is basically non-existent. Callous, cunning, intelligent, calculative, ruthless, and extremely manipulative — I can make a long list of adjectives here just for MC alone. He only has one goal; retirement, and he stays focused to that goal without wavering in the slightest. He’s willing to do whatever the hell it takes to get there; whether it be emotional manipulation, seduction, or prostitution (only for the s*um gongs tho). Whatever it is, he is always the one in control of the situation; he is always the one with the upper hand, despite acting and appearing to be the one being taken advantage of. He doesn’t feel a single shred of sympathy for the gongs as he forcefully feeds them a taste of their own medicine. MC is also witty & a comedy king lmfao; his sarcastic remarks and dry punchlines are hilarious to me. Just a note to add on; MC does not go through any character development and does not get affected by anything or anyone; he’s completely and thoroughly indifferent & detached from the role he’s playing. The only thing he cares about is money hahaha.

As for the s*um gongs, they’re scummy, arrogant, pe*verted, entitled and delusional a**holes, and they 1000% deserve the tr*shing they get from MC. Some of them are likeable if you squint your eyes really hard and ignore the raging red flags in the background I guess, but in general they’re just straight up entitled s*umbags. MC tr*shes them so hard that they end up becoming pitiful heartbroken children by the end — but even so, I only feel schadenfreude towards these pathetic loser bastards; 0 sympathy 0 pity hahaha. Oh, boohoo, you fell for MC’s traps and genuinely fell in love with him? Wo~ow I feel so~o sorry for you (hahahahaha). Whoops I went off the rails there lmfao. Just because they act pathetic and pitiful now & had a sprinkle of character development doesn’t mean I’d forgive and forget so easily lol, especially considering the horrible sh*t that the gongs had/would put the original MC through. I just love seeing the irony of it all. Also, it doesn’t help that none of them really appeal to me; they’re all just equally irritating as the other. The only time I love them is when they’re in pain and being tortured by the MC. :]

The set-up chapters feel so excruciatingly long to me but that’s because I’m just so excited to see the long-anticipated pay-off, and gosh is it satisfying to watch all of the chaos slowly unfurl one after another; the gongs ripping each other apart while the MC and I just sit back to enjoy the shitshow. It’s like watching a meticulously wrapped present unwrap itself in slow-motion in a sadistic strip show (lol). If you’re no stranger to abusive dogblood novel tropes, then you’ll probably be able to predict most of the “major plot points” in this novel, but what makes this novel entertaining for me is the way MC executes his schemes and makes the gongs dance to his rhythm. And MC is just a charming character to me in general. There were little to no parts that I felt was boring/draggy; I was mostly entertained for almost the entire novel hahaha. I love love love the decision the author took with the ending. The original version of the ending felt extremely rushed and messy but the revised version is much better and gives a more fleshed-out perspective. Overall, not a novel for those of you who are looking for romance or a good story (lol), but nonetheless a fun and entertaining read.

I’m so happy for him, the original MC, and also myself as a reader LOL I love this so much. Smart, cunning, apathetic borderline callous and powerful MC. He's a generally unfeeling guy but he doesn't go out of his way to kill or sabotage others (unless he considers them a threat, of course). So far, he's really charming to read about, especially the parts where he uses his magician skills. Also, the author really loves to talk about how pretty MC's new body is. This is just a warning in advance to prepare you haha, though it's not that big of a deal in the long run.

Manipulative, downright evil, and equally smart ML. Powerful from the start - he currently stands at the No.1 contender spot. He's a little sh*t that goes out of his way to take every opportunity to sabotage MC whenever he can. I love him a lot already. Their dynamic and interactions are amazing so far, even if there isn't any romance yet. MC and ML have the 'enemies to lovers' progression and their tension is Super Intense™. When I say 'enemies to lovers', I mean it. They're literally out to mu*der each other in cold blood at the start. Full killing intent. As you might be able to guess; yup, this is going to be a slow-burn romance. I'm interested to see how their relationship will develop from 'I wanna chop off your head' to actual romance. I have high hopes, judging from the reviews.

Surprisingly, side characters are quite likeable. A few of them I can even consider (almost) as interesting as the main characters. I've grown fond of some already, and that's really saying something considering horror game-world novels have a penchant for disregarding their side characters. Of course, the brainless cannon-fodder characters are not included in this 'likeable' group. Fortunately, there aren't many of them so far. At least none so annoying to the point where I want to rip my hair out of my scalp.

The worlds and scenarios themselves are pretty meh so far, as usual from these so-called "horror" novels. Nothing interesting, nothing scary, just a lot of repetitive gore. I think the more interesting places are the system worlds after an instance world is completed, and the actual system itself also. Not sure if the novel is going to delve into a plot about the system but I'm sure as hell hoping for one. The characters and MC-ML romance are really hard-carrying this novel lmfao. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing how this novel goes.

No cheat skill/golden finger, no system; just skills and past-life knowledge. Pragmatic, smart, resilient “sick beauty” MC. Ambitious and an astute businessman, but at the same time also an earnest & compassionate guy in terms of protecting the common people. He sticks to his principles and he's (realistically) morally-righteous. He uses his police officer/military experience later to train a bunch of regular civilians and turn them into his personal militia of strong fighters. Surprisingly, MC is knowledgable and intelligent both in military as well as scholarly matters; he's also very well-spoken. With his confidence and acting skills in public, I would’ve never guessed that he was a guy from modern society. Fake it till ya make it, right?

ML is the quiet but protective type of guy; he's hardworking, pure-hearted, resolute, and devoted to MC. Weak-to-strong development. Commander of MC’s private battalion and the most powerful fighter amongst them. He's intelligent and a fast-learner. He was originally one of the street s*aves that MC had bought while on the road, and practically fell in love at first sight with MC lol. A real cutie, and he genuinely cares a lot about MC. MC-ML interactions so far are wholesome and sweet. I really like their “selfless master x dedicated guard/servant” dynamic.

Painfully slow-burn romance. We're talking about 100+ chapters with MC having no romantic feelings yet for ML (and actually being lowkey averse to the idea of being in a homos*xual relationship), while ML is out here hardcore Coping & Compartmentalising™. ML knows he has feelings more than simple admiration for MC but doesn’t want to acknowledge them because of impropriety & he basically has to fight an internal battle with himself to suppress his feelings because he respects MC so much. Meanwhile, MC seems to be too preoccupied with otherworldly affairs to even think about romance -- though even from the start, MC subconsciously treats ML more impartially/specially than he does with anyone else.

Plot-wise; it’s historical palace intrigue focusing mostly on kingdom-building, with dogblood family drama as a small side dish and satisfying face-slapping plot as garnish. So far, the author is doing an amazing job at world-building and explaining complicated politics, ancient philosophies, and business management. Interesting stuff, though I’m not too clear on the specifics. There was a whole war plot going on amongst the Sima clan people but I was just so confused throughout the whole thing. The fact that most of these background characters share the same family name doesn't help; I'm just too much of a dumbo to be able to keep track and remember who's who lmfao. But the battle scenes that involve MC's participation directly can get really tense and I really enjoy reading those ones. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing more of MC’s successes. Side characters like MC’s personal servants/soldiers and his kid are likeable and endearing. Enjoyable read, strangely addicting.

Very interesting premise. Feels funny to read about a character just freshly transmigrating from the perspective of an onlooker. Just shows how crazy characters actually look when they wake up in a panic and they go like "omg someone give me a mirror". As far as I'm aware, there's no world-hopping. After ML's first transmigration, the subsequent ones happen in the same world.

MC is no delicate, saintly beauty. Well, he's a beauty, that's for sure. Saintly and delicate? Far from it. He's a cruel, spiteful, and vengeful person, who keeps tabs on all the people who wrong him and/or his loved ones, holding onto those grudges for life until he finds the right timing to dish out revenge as appropriate. His eidetic memory, impeccable scheming skills, and ruthlessness only further enable his vindictive streak. MC's inner (and outer) dialogue so far consists of 90% tr*shtalk and it's absolutely hilarious to me. Funnily enough, MC's dream is to become a doctor to help people. Admirable, but funny because it clashes with his personality. I think he enjoys the medicine part while the 'helping people' part is only an added bonus/afterthought lol. He's very cute when he's with his family though. 100% a mama's boy.

Transmigrator ML, who I assume is originally from a modern era. He's unexpectedly a very charming and sweet character. His witty, childish banter with MC is fun to read. Shockingly, ML is as much of a cunning, calculative, merciless schemer as MC is - despite advertising himself as a salted fish who wants nothing to do with the world. Unlike MC though, he puts in the work and effort only if he *absolutely* has to. If not, then the salted fish would just laze around all day. Relatable king. Personally, I think the reason he sleeps a lot must be because his back hurts so much from solo carrying this entire novel. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Straight" MC & ML. Their relationship doesn't start off smoothly, with MC harboring somewhat of a grudge towards ML and literal mu*derous intent towards his in-laws for directly cutting off his freedom. ML, on the other hand, seemingly just wants to live the Salted Fish Transmigrator Life™. I was wondering how their romance would even begin, and I'm pleasantly surprised at their chemistry. Wholesome and healthy! The pacing of both the story and romance is great too. Their interactions are a delight to read, though MC takes quite a while to warm up to ML. Once he does though, damn they're so cute I want to squeeze something to death. Their whole relationship dynamic is basically "be gay, do crime". They literally plan mu*ders together while flirting. Very romantic.

Plot-wise, as you might expect, it's all mostly palace intrigue. Meaning; dogblood drama, green tea b*tches, cheap face-slapping, and nonsensical no-IQ cannon-fodder "villains" everywhere. (*rolls eyes*) Well, whatever. At least MC's family is wholesome and drama-free. Other than the romance, the only interesting part of the plot would probably be the mysteries of ML's transmigration (aka his real identity) and, later, his multiple identities. Good start so far, looking forward to the rest of the translation!

Calm, logical, selfless, realistically smart MC. Unexpectedly a tsundere lol. Not overpowered or all-knowing. In fact, he dies literally only a few minutes after stepping into the first instance. As you might be able to guess, MC's golden finger is being able to retain his memories after death and basically 'reset' back to his last checkpoint, like a videogame but with the pain of dying brutally. Despite having to go through painful deaths, MC uses his respawn ability to figure out the way to beat the game instances, speedruns it, then save as many players as he can. Don't worry, he's not a saintly Mother Mary character - he knows that it's impossible to save everyone and he won't hesitate to kill/leave behind those who actively poses a threat. MC goes from a gullible and innocent newcomer to a cold, traumatized, paranoid veteran who's closed-off to anyone but ML. Every time he dies, it breaks my heart to see him being restarted back at the elevator, knowing that ML has forgotten all the experiences they went through together.

Talkative, charming, surprisingly smart, and shockingly strong ML. Not OP though. A livestreamer, gamer, otaku, and reader - but somehow still physically fit (how??). In short; a man of culture. His commentary towards everything is hilarious lol. He's the first person MC meets & saves, and istg he's the only beam of sunlight in this dark, miserable hellhole. His bubbly, goofy & cheerful attitude is such a good match for MC. I'm loving their interactions together! I have a weird feeling about him though, I don't know why. I think he's going to UNO-reverse me later. Somehow.

From the start, ML already shows interest in MC, though to me it felt more like a casual eye-candy crush that gradually develops into romantic interest. He becomes one of MC's reasons to continue living on after dying over and over again. Meanwhile, MC is dense at first, but surprisingly his obliviousness towards romance doesn't last as long as I expected. It's funny how these two have perfect synergy and tacit understanding when it comes to the game worlds, but aren't on the same wavelength at all when it comes to real-world things.

Plot-wise, the game-worlds, mysteries and puzzles so far are super interesting! I'm hella invested! The instances don't happen one immediately after the other, giving some time for our MC-ML to rest and spend time in the real world together. I'm sensing a hidden mystery element behind ML and I have no idea if I'm being weirdly paranoid or actually onto something. We'll see. I hope there's gonna be a way for ML to retrieve all the memories he lost previously.

I wish I could say that the background cannonfodder characters are nice, but most of them are scummy and/or dumbasses lol. In their defense, I'll say that at least they don't feel two-dimensional and/or nonsensical. Most of them have real reasons behind doing bad things to the MC and I can sort of understand why they acted like that. Anyway, amazing read so far, I'm excited to read the rest.

MC, scheming everything in the background, smiling innocently: "I've been partying out with the boys 24/7, so how could I be scheming? Wdym man? I'm a total waste; the worthless second young master, remember?"

The classic rebirth face-slapping revenge plot involving wealthy families and businesses, etc. A very suspenseful but also slice-of-life read. I can't really explain it very well; this novel drives you tense at the edge of your seat, but it's also rather slow-paced. So the tension kind of dies down but still remains a constant thrum in the background of your reading experience. Still, an enjoyable and relatively well-written read. No overpowered cheats or systems, just pure business and scheming skills from past experience.

Underestimated MC; calm, cold, reticent, calculating, and surprisingly strong. 10/10 acting skills lol, though as much as he tries to hide it from his loved ones, the overnight mental aging is visible in little changes in his demeanor. He’s realistically intelligent, using the skills, information and experience he has from his previous life to slowly pick apart his enemies’ defences and strike them off his chessboard, and also to protect his family from harm. In this aspect, he's quite self-sacrificing. He holds many secrets buried deep within his heart, alongside an uncontrollable amount of paranoia and anxiety towards his second life's future. I love what the author did in terms of his characterisation and dealing with his personal mental trauma. I honestly just want to give him a hug.

Researcher ML; reserved and intelligent. The romance is relatively slow-burn. This is the type of romance where you get to chapter 80 and they're just holding hands for the first time but you're there screaming like a banshee. I like how natural MC and ML’s progression feels. MC was close friends with ML in his first life, and ML was one of the only people to help MC when everyone else left him in his darkest times. MC finds comfort in ML’s peaceful companionship. I have to say that the romance is more like a side dish to the plot, so this novel isn't romance-centred. ML is very supportive and caring; he's also really perceptive to all of MC's little changes and actions. ML is there whenever the MC needs him and he unconditionally supports MC despite knowing that MC is keeping secrets from him and lying to him. He is literally MC's lifeline that keeps MC tethered to life. Their interactions are also very wholesome; the mutual pining drives me crazy!

Side characters are adorable, specifically MC’s family. They’re much more likeable than I had expected. The main antagonists though, aka the filthy rats and snakes coveting MC’s family fortune, are the usual annoying cannonfodder bunch. For me, the most fun part of reading this novel was reading about his family members' reactions to the changes in his behavior and his sudden understanding in business matters. I have to say that his family really cares for him. I can realistically imagine their dynamics in real life, and I love it.

The plot itself is the standard revenge plot with little twists here and there. It's well-written, but there isn't anything outstanding about it, and I can even honestly say that it can get a little unnecessarily longwinded and draggy at certain parts. Like I've mentioned previously; it's a strange combination to me because the novel has some really suspenseful dogblood drama plot points and yet the slow pace makes it read like a peaceful slice-of-life. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Honestly, I was hesitant to read this at first. My past experiences with the omegaverse trope weren't pleasant. Thankfully, the main focus of this story is mostly on showbiz.

Fluffy, sweet, no-brainer & short read with minor (but satisfying) face-slapping plot. This novel is a nice vacation from all those dogblood drama, angsty/abusive novels. Calm, Workaholic™, perfectionist & intelligent gong MC who gives off CEO-daddy vibes. He’s a little emotionally dense for the early parts of the novel, but it’s no big deal. More importantly, I love that the MC would rather disobey the System and lose his points than mark ML without ML's consent. His emotional development feels realistic too. It’s nice to see a normal gong for once after all the countless overbearingly-possessive yandere gongs in danmei.

MC's personal goal is to fix up the messes left behind by the original goods and turn his company into a huge success, just like his own company in his past life. His ultimate goal is to bring ML into the limelight. MC doesn't hand-feed ML success, he lets ML work hard for his own career and become independent - which is something I like.

Meanwhile, ML is hardworking and pure/innocent with a *cough* wild imagination. He can be gullible sometimes, but he’s surprisingly sharp and perceptive when it matters. What a cute kid, haha. ML is the one pining for MC first since MC is too busy thinking about work 24/7. MC only stops thinking of ML as a seedling project-child until about halfway through the novel. It was fun to watch MC struggle with his own feelings and being all chaotic & confused.

MC and ML are a hilarious & sweet duo together. From the start, MC already cares and treats ML as a real person, not as a novel character. Their romance is not abrupt and the pacing is just right for me, although their marriage feels somewhat rushed. Definitely a healthy relationship. Other than them, the side characters are likeable too. Surprisingly, there were only 2 or 3 brainless cannon fodder “villains” that showed up to cause trouble. I was expecting more, but it’s a good thing that I don’t have to waste my energy getting mad at them.

Lighthearted, no-brainer read. Right off the bat, the premise is so funny. MC has to collect points from the SYSTEM to survive, but the way he completes the SYSTEM’s tasks is literally the epitome of malicious compliance. It’s so entertaining to watch him try to loophole his way out of doing “delinquent” things.

As an avid school-hater, MC is such a freak to me lmfao; he loves to learn, go to school and attend classes. Like, those things genuinely give him joy (how??). He’s really the most delinquent-like nerd I’ve ever seen. The type to have his own set of principles and strictly stick to them; or in other words, he likes to do whatever he wants and can’t be convinced out of it. He’s hilariously blunt, confident, and witty. I love how MC influences and encourages the troubled kids around him to become better for the sake of their futures. Very charming protagonist.

Hearing-impaired ML who is one of the strongest delinquent leaders that MC has to “defeat”. He’s cold, taciturn, violent, and antisocial, only allowing his friends & followers to be friendly with him. In short; an immature, violent, gloomy brat. But surprisingly, he does have a sense of humor and he’s unintentionally hilarious lmfao. MC and ML’s relationship starts off extremely rocky, but thanks to MC’s irresistible charm and wit, ML quickly warms up to him.

I just absolutely adore not only their relationship development but also ML’s character development. ML is clearly a troubled guy with lots of issues, but MC is such a good influence on him and is so supportive towards him, something that ML has never experienced before, to the point that MC is able to easily melt down his defenses. However, MC knows how to set boundaries and won’t let himself get trampled all over the place by ML. He shows and teaches ML the consequences of ML’s irresponsible actions and helps ML become a better person but doesn’t handhold or baby him. I also love how the author doesn’t (overly) romanticise ML’s violent and possessive behavior but acknowledges it as something problematic stemming from trauma that needs to be worked on through therapy and healing.

Surprisingly lovable side characters. I thought they would get annoying at some point, but they’re all so funny and endearing, especially MC’s classmates. MC forms genuine bonds with them and treasures them as his friends; it’s so wholesome. This novel utilises the “misunderstandings” trope in such a hilarious way. I couldn’t stop laughing for the first half of the novel.

That aside, I've got a few problems; first, this novel has a minor issue with pacing especially in the middle where it got unnecessarily draggy & bland at certain parts. Whenever a major plot point happens, it ends as quickly as it comes (lol), and it feels unsatisfying. I was also kinda disappointed because I thought there would be more focus on the “delinquent” side of the story (y’know, fighting and all that); I expected a huge build-up to the confrontation between the two big delinquent bosses, but there was none and it was anticlimactic. Overall, the novel mostly strikes me as a typical school slice of life BL that would probably still work the same even if you take out the “delinquent” element of the story. Also, for some reason, MC got physically stronger out of nowhere? I may have missed something. Don’t let my little nitpicks deter you though, it’s a pretty decent & fun read!

Honestly after the midpoint there were several times where I wanted to drop this novel and go read something else because it was so draggy & boring. Funny enough, every time I muster up the resolve to stop, something interesting and funny happens and I continue reading anyway haha! And I’m glad I pushed through because it’s so worth it. The latter part of the novel made me tear up. <<less

You have some really good novels listed here with such good reviews. I recently read Erha and your review perfectly summarizes my feelings — “I thought I could never forgive him for the awful things he did to ML. As the story went on, I found out more about his past and the REAL reason behind his attitude, I sympathised and cried for him. I could feel his regret, his hatred for himself, his confusion, his insecurity, and most importantly, his sincerity for the ML. I can't say that I forgive him but I can't say that I hate him either. It's a complicated feeling, to say the least.” — this is exactly how I felt.

altho I see you have dropped it by your review, don't mind if I ask if you have reread "Mistakenly Saving the Villain" again? Its pretty tiring to get the password from the website right now but I do recommend it a lot. I discovered it from this list and was attracted to it. I completed it and the rating is not a lie since its actually really good. The world building and the plot logic was splendidly written well and the hints around the mystery and the plot twist which was slowly revealed by the author in the end was amazing. I wanted to recommend it to you cause its one of my favorite novels, and I wanted to hear you're thoughts and reviews..?
