First of all, I'm confident that this novel won't be everyone's favorite; ignore any comments suggesting it's similar to Mdzs and Tgcf. Yes, the first few chapters do remind Mdzs, but as the plot unfolds, I can assure you that it is completely different from those two. 

Onto the review—let's start with the negatives; I found the characterization left too much to be desired. Frankly, except for the main villain and the supporting characters Yuchi Rui and Yuchi Xiao, everyone else is inconsistent. While the main duo has incredible potential, unfortunately, the author hasn't utilized either of them well in terms of characterization. Secondly, xianxia is not an easy theme; it's difficult to balance the power dynamics, and you can clearly see this while reading. Both the MC & ML, one moment, perform absurdly epic, powerful moves, while the next moment, they act like ordinary humans. Finally, the plot is complete chaos—which ties us to the good aspects of the novel because..man do I thrive on chaos! 

For me, the reason this story sits at the top of my list lies here: its theme and, despite its complexity, the plot structure are incredibly captivating. I can't recall the last time I read a novel and found myself staring at the screen, gasping every ten minutes in shock, as plot twists slapped me in the face. So I overlooked all the negative aspects I mentioned and looked at the novel not as it is, but as what it could be—as if it had fulfilled its potential. Like I said, this novel won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you're on my wavelength, I guarantee you'll love it.

Last but not least, don’t skip the extras! I know from the comments that some people didn’t enjoy them and didn’t even consider the side pair worth their time, but for me, the extra story was PHENOMENAL. Was it toxic? Absolutely. But was it also riveting to the extreme? Hell yes. So here’s my probably super unpopular/controversial take: If that side duo were the main pair instead, it would have made for an even more gripping and intriguing story than the original. :') <<less

I deeply apologize for my last review telling this was nothing special.. please forgive my shitty memory for mixing this story up, because maaan this one was a ride... The beginning was soft, like a typical run-of-the-mill reincarnation story, but then it hits you like a train with the plot. I highly recommend it.

Objectively, the plot is decent, the world-building is fine, and the side characters are mediocre. So why is it at the top? The answer is simple: their inner dialogues. The main trope centers around the miscommunication, and even lack of communication, between the characters and how ML and MC perceive the same situations in completely different ways, and boy do I LOVE that. <<less

First, let’s give out the award for Best MC’s Mother! Yes, you heard it right, a danmei with an actually interesting, lovable and logical woman character in it—shocking, I know! Second, a huge shoutout for Best ML goes to that one chubby red chick who genuinely cares for his partner from the bottom of his hearth. I LOVE it when the gong has his brain located inside the cranium and not inbetween his legs, and actually has human(deity?) decency to feel bad and try to make up for their mistake after doing something bad to their significant other. Third, let’s not forget the award for cutest and spunkiest MC of all times!  Overall, this was such a fun and fluffy story, and I highly recommend everyone read it. I'm not okay with how OBSESSED I've become about this novel. There is a nostalgic aspect to the story for me, I don't know what it exactly is, but when I read it I felt like I was reading a good ol' 2000's vampire story rather than a danmei. It's the little details—the deliciously subtle ones—that really got me!

I absolutely love when the possessive gong is done right, and let me tell you, this story does it right! The ML is the prime example of perfect yearning. He worships the ground the MC walks on with devout possessiveness. Yes, the red flags are there, but somehow it's just the right amount (I know how wrong that sounds :'D, but you get what I mean).

Now for the negatives: the ending felt somewhat rushed to me. After the MC returns, things develop a bit too quickly. It's not a deal-breaker, but I wish the author had given him more time to acclimate and come to terms with his feelings; that would've fit his character much better. <<less

ASDXFX the jokes people, them jokes I tell you :'D Every other chapter left me wheezing with laughter! But don't be fooled by the humor, this story hides sharp knives too. When it's funny, it's hilarious; when it's sad, it's heartbreaking.

Now the negatives:

First, the translation is probably MTL-edited. I'd sell a kidney for a proper version! The missed jokes and mistranslated details hurt my soul. Plus there are two missing chapters, you can kinda piece things together, but it really spoils the experience.

Second: I'D SELL A KIDNEY AND A LUNG FOR A LONGER VERSION! This story is the definition of wasted potential. I loved every detail—characters, narration, everything—but the rushed pace and short length ruined it :'( If it weren't so rushed, it would be A-tier instantly. <<less

Biting neck? Drinking blood? H-he-Hemipenis?! *Inhales deeply* HNGNNYYES... *cough* Ok, now that's out of my system, lemme continue with the longsass review.

Their interactions are delightful, and not only that, both the MC and ML are fantastic characters. The trope of the "old and mighty MC who worked alone for heaven" paired with the "obsessively-in-love ML who’s willing to do anything for him and share his burdens" isn’t new, but it's rare to find a story that does it well. After reading countless stories where the protagonist, despite being strong, acts like a newborn fawn, it’s incredibly refreshing to finally see a character who is genuinely strong and unafraid to show or use that strength.

Honestly, the story isn't ground-breaking overall, but the characterization is quite good. There are logical reasons behind their actions and thoughts y'all! In other words, the characters don’t just do things for the sake of advancing the plot; they act in ways that align with their personalities, which makes the story flow naturally. Shocking, I know! This is such a simple trait of a good story, but after slogging through so many average web novels, I can’t help but feel thrilled when I finally encounter this basic yet rare trait. I must say that I particularly enjoyed how the novel handled the theme of immortality. It addresses this concept in a natural manner, without becoming overly serious or depressive—just the right amount of melancholy. That’s actually the general vibe of the novel; it keeps things relatively light-hearted.

 However, this brings me to the negatives: I would have loved it to be a bit darker. With immortality and loneliness as themes...it had SO much potential to be a deliciously tragic xuanhuan. Another major con is that it feels a bit short—way too short, to be honest. And to keep with the novel's pace, many scenes passed by too quickly. We don’t have enough time to get to know the characters, both main and secondary, or the world well enough. As a result, many aspects of the protagonist’s past and emotions remain unresolved. Even just a section exploring Mc's life before being chosen by the Heavenly Will would have made the story at least five times better...

And... my last, and most important, complaint: lack of smut! (It's shounen-ai, I know..I know...) Look, you can’t casually mention hemipenis, biting necks, lustful snake yaos, and then serve us that semi-fade-to-nothingness nonsense. I’ve been edged through all those chapters, only to get the classic "I’m going to give you some vague descriptors so you know what’s going on but not fully explain it" s*x scenes!! *Sigh* I know it’s tough with bans and all... but still... I wanted those scenes badly. <<less

This was one hell of a ride. First the writing and narrative were so weird, I wasn't sure if it's the author or the translation (I think it's the latter; I've checked author's other story, and that one wasn't a jumbled mess.) For the first 20 or something chapters, I almost had a headache; it was so weird, but then the plot started to reveal and it got better. First, let me tell you that this is a true story of enemies becoming lovers, worthy of being one of the poster children for the genre. Now comes the real reason why it made it to the B tier...  Do you like when the gong talks dirty—no, not in that weird creepy way, but in a genuine interest? Do you enjoy biting, or when the duo tear each other apart? Well, hop on in, friend, because GYADDDAMN! The tension between these two were immaculate! This had no reason being this hot. It may be on the B-tier list, but for the intimate scenes, it's in my hall of fame. <<less

I wouldn’t call it an "enemies-to-lovers" story; if anything, it’s more of a fluff story—and an extremely fluffy one at that! It’s definitely a comfort novel, the kind you pick when you just need something simple yet enjoyable. While it doesn’t have a mind-blowing plot or groundbreaking character development, it’s still intriguing. This has to be one of the best novels that handles and narrates such classic tropes so impeccably without boring you even for a second. The translation was fantastic, but since it wasn’t complete, I ended up reading the last 60 chapters via MTL because I couldn’t wait to finish it (yeah, that’s how fun and addictive it was.) <<less

Another great example of "well-done classic tropes." After reading the description, I was expecting something heavier on the transmigration side, but that's definitely not the case. I would describe this as a fluffy romance novel with a touch of angst, leaning more toward the characters' relationship than the wuxia/xuanhuan elements. You won't find the most intricate plot or world-building here, but you will get maximum cuteness overload from their flirting. I have to give credit to the author—the MC and ML have one of the healthiest relationships I've ever read in danmei, which brings me to the novel's downside...

As I mentioned, the story lacks in the plot department, and it often feels like the author wrote it in a "neutral" setting and then tweaked a few parts to fit it into a wuxia framework. I don’t think any of the characters in the novel had a mindset fitting for a wuxia world—they felt more like modern people playing the roles of characters in a wuxia setting. So, as a romance story, it was a lovely experience; as a wuxia/xuanhuan novel... well, it falls short in many areas. <<less

This one should be the cover for my B tier list, because this is my THE guilty pleasure book. There is by no means anything special about this novel; plot, world building, and the side characters were run-of-the-mill Danmei stuff, your everyday classic tropes. But...I enjoyed the every single page of it! I mean, come one, shameless MC and aloof ML is already a perfect enough combo, and to top it with fox yao? And add there a hint of possessiveness! *swoon*OH this is not shounen ai, btw; but sadly, it has only one intimate scene at the very end. Not bad, not good. A lot of clichés happen but some original stuff also pops up from time to time. I think some commenters over analyzed, saying how MC is depressed and all. I don't think that's the case. There were a million opportunities for the author to expand on that or delve into the MC’s inner thoughts (which were done but only to show the development of his feelings/affection for the ML), but it was never the main focus of the story. For me, this is just a feel-good story with a quirky MC, and if it weren't for the fact it was written 5 times each chapter that he is sleeping yet again—yes we get it that's his thing, please stop repeating it—I would give it a higher rating. Seriously, because of that ceaseless "he is sleeping again." reminder, I was constantly annoyed while reading it.

I tried loving this novel, really, I did. After reading the comments about how it was philosophical (which, honestly, I don’t remember a single scene like that) and seeing the high ratings, I seriously questioned myself to the point of wondering if I’d read something entirely different. This was such an unexpected find! When I started the novel, the rating was a bit low so I readied myself for mediocrity... but I'm happy to announce, people... this novel is a hidden gem! It was incredibly cute and fun story. Seriously, every single chapter left a smile on my face. I think the only downside was the ending being a bit rushed and how short it was! This was a difficult novel for me to rate. The theme is entirely about the transformation of the MC and ML's characters with barely there romance. Both the main duo and the side characters are presented to reader as objectively as possible—no white-washing, no rose-tinted glasses—which made this novel very enjoyable for me. The dynamic between the duo is really—I mean reaaallly—enjoyable. Novel offers a lighthearted, feel-good experience, and one of its standout qualities is the way ML recognizes his overly obsessive and assertive behavior, understanding how it disturbs the MC. Thankfully, he takes the initiative to change, which is such a rare and refreshing sight in danmei! However, despite this positive character development, the story still relies heavily on familiar, cookie-cutter danmei tropes and plots. If you're someone who doesn't mind the clichés, it's still a pleasant read. <<less

In a classic MuSuLi fashion: I came for the tags and left with the "Got hit right in the reserved-for-old-BL part of my heart; 10/10 would do it again!

Excuse my French but... GYADDAMN ML was MF**N HOOOOT. Ahem... Anyways... It's been a looong time since I've read a good ornery/tsundere type, and boy did I enjoy it! The level of sarcasm in MC&ML's interactions, the level of annoyment in ML's bickering and jabs *chef's kiss* just perfect! I had way too much fun reading this heheheh... This story is a must if you want good ol' (2015-era) Gary Stu BL with all the nice details and none of the toxic stuff from back then. 

On a serious note: It's a short story, so you don't get a great chance to deep-dive into details as much as you'd want, nor can you connect with the characters enough. A lot of details are hurriedly mentioned so the narration can continue, and that makes you alienate from it even further. But—maybe it's the nostalgia factor or the fact that I seriously missed reading this type of gong—I had an amazing time. The comedic tone doubled with the ML's consistent shouting and yapping was just my cup of tea. I guess it's one of those novels where, if you're on my wavelength, you WILL like it for sure.   <<less

I'll be honest, as much as I enjoy strong characters, and how he made a certain ML pay, I ultimately found MC deeply unlikeable. He is rude, has a shitty personality, and might be the biggest hypocrite of them all. <<less
