Karmic ties are a key theme throughout the novel as it currently stands, meaning the author has his work cut out for him if he wants us to care about any of them. Fortunately, the author has created interesting characters and an intriguing world around them, giving us plenty of reason to care about these ties. It's unclear what lies ahead, but if the author stays the course, this will not be a novel for readers simply seeking a dopamine hit. <<less
