“This doesn’t make any sense.”

That you can’t recognize me.

Ju-eon is diagnosed with ‘weathering syndrome’, a terminal illness that worsens when near Espers. Though Ju-eon tries to hide his deteriorating condition, it gets worse day by day. While experiencing an awkward atmosphere with his long-time lover, S-class Esper Myung-hwon, an S-class Guide joins them, and Ju-eon is pushed out of Myung-hwon’s guiding duties.

Then one day, Myung-hwon breaks up with Ju-eon. He’s given a chance to participate in a clinical trial to treat his weathering syndrome, but for the treatment, he must fake his death….

Can Ju-eon overcome the clinical trial’s side effect of memory loss and escape his terminal life?

[Preview]

“I must be really drunk.”

His heart felt like it stopped for a moment at the man’s voice. A deep fragrance penetrated his lungs, making Ju-eon shiver.

“……”

Ju-eon stood speechless, looking at the man blocking his path. Despite not being close, the strong smell of alcohol wafted heavily.

“Or maybe I’ve really gone crazy now.”

He could just brush off a drunk like this and leave. But curiosity raised its head. He was curious about the face that was only faintly visible in outline.

‘I wonder what kind of expression he’s making….’

He wondered why he’d stopped him with such a voice full of despair.

The force gripping Ju-eon’s wrist was so sorrowful and desperate that, even though he could easily shake it off, Ju-eon couldn’t. As he blinked quickly, his eyes adjusted to the darkness and took in the man’s face. For a moment, he forgot to breathe.

The grown man was crying. Ju-eon’s eyes widened at the tears flowing like silence. His eyes grew hot, perhaps from not blinking for so long. The man stepped back. This time, Ju-eon took a step forward.

“Um… why are you crying…”

He didn’t think he was foolish enough to care about the actions of someone who was drunk, but his heart sank. The man cried silently. His voice, wet and low, clung to Ju-eon’s heart. Ju-eon suddenly caught a sense of foreboding.

“I waited nicely.”

A boiling emotion could be felt in his deeply sunken voice. A premonition that his voice, now stuck to his heart, wouldn’t detach for a long time.

“Hey. What does that even mean…”

Despite Ju-eon’s call, the man continued to say only what he wanted to say. The man whispered incomprehensible words without pause.

“Don’t go today.”

Every day, I just stood far enough away not to touch you.

At the desperate voice, Ju-eon forgot even to hold his breath for a moment. With each blink, the outline of the face became clearer and clearer in his vision. Logically thinking, even though he knew the probability of this man being drunk and mistaking him for someone else was higher than him being someone he knew.

“I think you’re mistaking me for someone else.”

“…Eon-ah.”

You see that title? Don't be fooled because it is not THAT type of story. Yes, the ML was regretful but NOT the "im regretful because im a tr*shy boyfriend" kind of regret. It was more like the type of regret that "im regretful that we didn't talk about our problems sooner and now he (MC) is dead"

From the beginning of the story, it is noticeable that the MC and ML really love each other but both of them was hiding something massive. In MC's case, he was hiding his... more>> terminal illness while the ML

Spoiler

the ML is in a power struggle with his s*erm donor biological father who was a higher up in the esper/guide agency, and a congressman who got ambition for position of president. The father wants to make MC some kind of hostage to control the ML in doing what he wants for political purposes,

ML just wanted to create a peaceful situation for the MC where his father couldn't influence them anymore. I think MC doesn't know the details of ML and his father's very bad relationship, only the surface information.

It went wrong as they hid the problems while pretending that everything was fine, finally reaching to its critical point that we read in the first part of novel.

[collapse]

This novel also got the number one enemy of these novels: lack of communication between the main couple. I don't get why this novel got low ratings, but I think it was because of this. It can be really annoying, not to mention that the angsty and annoying parts almost took half of the novel.

The conflicts of this novel has the right amount of dungeons, political, and relationship issues mixed together. If I were to chose one issue as the focus, maybe the relationships (friends, family, romance) of different characters. Readers should expect more interpersonal conflicts with a good amount of political and dungeon problem sprinkled on top

If I were to review this novel wearing my hunterverse/guideverse glasses. It is interesting that the events in novel was set to the time where dungeons are still monopolized by the government, and before the legalization of the typical hunter Guilds. This novel also portrays the reason why the hunter agency facilitator needed to be hunters themselves, and not some kind of old man from the government.

Now, let's talk about one of the annoying parts of the novel: the second ML. I really hated him while reading this but at the same time he was the most entertaining character here.

Spoiler

I got high hopes for him not becoming a cliche second ML especially after knowing that he's gonna be the MC's doctor for his illness treatment but ohhhh boy y'all could guess what happened here. He got greedy and selfish, deluding himself that the MC will chose him if he removed ML to the equation. The same with MC, I also gave him a lot of chance to redeem himself. Without too much spoilers, I'll say this character got a satisfying ending.

[collapse]

Lastly, I have to point out how the author really tried their best not to cross outside the safe zone. I can't determine if it was a compliment or not but there are times where the story could have gotten darker, but they chose not to plant those landmines. Maybe because it was between the MC and second ml? Lmfao

Overall, it was a decent read. It is not that deep, but it is also not that shallow. <<less
