Probably the best cultivation novel. It's not just about the power up of the hero, it's a fun story about a mischevious guy who never stop to amaze you. When you start reading, you just can't stop it's really addictive. The best work of er gen without a doubt

Bumping this up to five stars. So much has happened I wrote my first review, and the story has just gotten better and better.

READ IT!

--

... more>> Four stars.

Bai Xiaochun's antics are funny at first but get less funny (imo) as the story progresses. He's shameless too often, to the point where events become painfully cringey, and it sucks because I hate seeing him throw away his face when people have begun to respect him. I'd rather he just cultivated instead of running around annoying people or screaming, "Save me! Save me!" in front of people who previously thought he was a badass. Thankfully, people never seem to permanently lose respect for him, but it's still hard to read.

The plot itself develops slowly and I'm also not sure I enjoy how protracted the major battles are... they go on FOREVER.

IMO, ISSTH is FAR better overall, although AWE has the better beginning and is often amusing. I suppose there's no point comparing the two because you quickly come to understand that they're trying to do different things: ISSTH is purely about one guy (Meng Hao) clawing his way to the top of a dangerous world (albeit with recurring friends, love interests and companions), while AWE is about a very shameless + slightly cowardly guy learning to shoulder responsibilities to protect the people he cares about (so not your typical xuanhuan lone wolf). At least, thus far, anyway. <<less

This novel is dog sh*t compared to his other works, especially in comparison to 'I Shall Seal the Heavens'. The biggest fault I find with this novel, which most people disagree with, is the humor and the contrived method of creating tension.

The main character is a genius, but the author also makes him socially inept and oblivious. The initial times that it caused him issues, it was acceptable. But when the author repeatedly utilizes this aspect to create tension and spends several chapters on his mistakes. It becomes annoying and... more>> frustrating to read. I have given up on this novel cause of this reason. Also from what I have read on other reviews (ignoring 5-stars), it seems that this behavior continues.

If you are a person that finds this kind of thing hilarious. You will enjoy it. Otherwise, stay clear of this novel. <<less

As someone who has read who knows how many cultivation novels (I stopped counting after ten), the story itself did not amaze me, but the character and side characters are hilarious! Even though the cultivation bit of the story is the same old same old, the fact that the MC can add funny elements to it is very amusing and moves the plot along. I am hanging on to the story to know more about the MC since he is just too lovable! Can't wait for new updates, there should... more>> be ten chapters a day lol! <<less

Even though I'm no where near completing this book it's definitely in my top 5.

Spoiler

Pros:

-Very humorous (Especially when he is forced to go to the main sect)

-Great progression of story, with vivid combat

-Memorable side characters

-Fates of characters aren't pre-determined (I mean that villas can turn good)

Cons:

-The fetish of the pet in this one is more creepy than funny (Unlike the ALMIGHTY LORD FIFTH)

-The author is obviously constantly changing his mind about the love interest mid-writting (Since he hinted her status and then throw that idea out of the window to make her more mysterious, wasting his previous buildup)

[collapse]

Overall, this is one of the best ongoing xianxia novels out there. <<less

It's really 'bout 4 stars but who really cares, it's an Er Gen story. A Thought Through Eternity/A Will Eternal is great in its pacing with a amusingly silly protagonist. At least for the first 120 chapters, ATTE/AWE is almost as funny as Disciple, kinda like the humor portions from ISSTH but better planned and strung together more cleanly. So far no scifi BS, so it reads like a nice classical story, not like Panlong or DE (IEatTomatoes' works).

I have to compliment the book since I finished it. Though the praise cannot be too resounding as I dropped it twice before struggling to the end.

The opening of the book was spectacular and I enjoyed it greatly. Then as he climbed in power the settings kept getting more complex and bloody. This phase the author couldn't bring as much life and entertainment to. Finally the peak of power is approached and the comedy is mostly lost to become an action-drama piece instead of a comedy.

On the whole I strongly... more>> recommend the first 1/5 of the series while the rest is not the same type of book. Still good but not what I wanted to keep reading. <<less

No clue how it got this bad. Er Gen truly got complacent in his writing, thinking that people come for the characters and plot. How could you possibly fall this far from Renegade Immortal? Even RI wasn't that good, but it was a far more entertaining read than this half-garbage, which only has its worldbuilding as its redeeming quality.

Gone are the mysterious locations and hard struggles of a protagonist in his own story. Now, there's only the chosen of the entire world that revolves around him, Bai Xiaochun. Mystical and... more>> legendary treasures literally fall into his lap, people love him for no good reason, enlightenment for him is as easy as turning his hand, not to mention that it's the highest tier of enlightenment, every single god damn time. He's a complete and utter hypocrite - saying he doesn't want to fight and make enemies when all he does is purposely taunt them when he has the power to not do so, all for the sake of some crappy comedy.

The story has become completely predictable, and it's clear that Er Gen has become derivative of other popular CN webnovels at the time... Completely losing the originality and charm of what made Renegade Immortal so interesting, being its ruthless world and storytelling. Bai Xiaochun survives every time, getting away with the maximum benefits. The suspension of disbelief is completely absent because you already know what's going to happen.

How is he supposedly talented in every single thing he takes interest in? And how is his focus and commitment so godlike that he can do so for months without rest when he hardly has any experience in life?

I have no idea why this is rated so highly. It was extremely disappointing. Yet another reminder to never trust NU reviews, else I risk wasting my time on garbage like this. It was almost as bad as POTT, almost.

Spoiler

I almost couldn't keep reading after seeing him open his ninth Foundation Establishment portal. Like... Come on, Er Gen...

3.5/5. The novel is a pretty good read but I have to reduce points for following:

1. Morals -1: He mostly keeps his morals up but at some occasions he is ready to start wars/kill many people for his goals.

Spoiler

Example is when they attacked the profound spirit sect. They wanted to obtain their power and "he wouldn't start to feel sorry for killing people he doesn't know"

2. Luck, insane talent in everything and inhuman determination -1: MC gets just very overpowered cause of all these things.

3. Funny situations +0.5: Cause of point 2 there are some pretty situations why I give extra 0.5 <<less

Overall it's a fun read. Some of the plot points can get a bit repetitive since he does milk the same plot points when it's used as a running gag.

I'm not a huge fan of the ending but it's probably OK.
Spoiler

As far as what I don't like I'm not keen on major antagonists getting introduced in the last 1% of the novel and I'm not a fan of time travel since it effectively means entire plot up until that point can be rewritten

My least favorite Er Gen story. What it felt like to me was that he tuned down the "satisfaction parts" about the story, or maybe it just seemed like that, since I couldn't relate to the main character as much. Hard to say why. Bai Xiaochun had his moments, and there were definitely parts where I was laughing my ass off too, but he was just slightly not as likeable as I would have expected.

Overall the theme of the story was kind of an uphill battle with bunch of tragedy,... more>> which was already a huge downer for me. Then most of solutions and branches of plot Er Gen made with this weird formula of the MC managing to do crazy feats all out of sudden, which made him seem "valuable" to enemies and neutral people alike, and those people then fostered him.

It was kind of weird story honestly, definitely not his best work. <<less

Ughh, I really like the early part but in the latter half Er Gen seems to force repeating the same scene with a silly reason for example 'I must concoct medicine bcs its my hobby' and disaster MUST happen everytime he finished concocting.

I really don't have an energy to continue reading the last few hundred chaptee

I loved this storry, it's not that it was the most original or anything, but it made me laugh all the time. Also it was really thrilling so I couldn't put my phone away!

I really liked the running jokes, I didn't get tired of them, instead they made it even more funny imap and the faceslapping was verry satisfying!

So there are some points that werent perfect, but I have to say, yes I noticed those points, but is still loved this novel, I wold still recommend it and read it... more>> again at some point. Here come the 'CONS'

This book is a one-man show, though the MC does have people dear to him, I don't feel like there is much depth to his realtionships. Just Coexisting makes you get used to people and maybe make them dear to you, but not to the point, where you would die for them and put everything on the line. For that behavior to make sense, I feel there should have been more interaction to justify that kind of feeling and behaviour.

Therfore all of MCs Character development happens because of himselfe and his wish to forever live happily ever after...

And the thing is, that wouldn't bother me (I also liked Warlock of the Magus World), but if so, I'd rather not have those realtionahips, because they oftend seemed forced. Especially the harem: why would those women fall so deeply in love? I'm not a fan of the harem genre, so that's one point, but also I believe it would make much more sense to have a deep connection to only one of them, so their relationship could have gained more depth and also sense!

The harem-part could have just been put in extras as in the second coming of gluttony...

The end could also have been a bit longer, with maybe more faceslapping and bathing in glory, but I wasn't mad about it.

------

So to conclude: this novel is mostly about a sneaky but kind MC, around whom a lot of weired and hilarious situations happen as he advances in his cultivation and finds out more about his world. <<less

The comedy in this is genuinely funny. I mean as in, you'll genuinely laugh out loud kind of funny. Just for that alone I believe it deserves a solid 5*.

The way things unfold and the results they have early on are hilarious. That's when the novel was a lot looser and the plot wasn't too serious. As the novel goes along and the plot becomes more serious, the comedy does end up being (sort of) omitted by the author. It isn't the main focus anymore besides cultivation. About the cultivation,... more>> it's practically a copy + paste of his past novels.

Spoiler

but considering the fact that the universes are connected, I guess it makes sense and is ok

[collapse]

Otherwise, it's pretty good. It has some basic formulas of Chinese webnovels; sects, tournaments, harem but these things aren't too overbearing. The novel doesn't really introduce anything new or game changing but it's still worth the read.

Just because of how talented the author is at writing comedic skits, I gave it a 5/5. The story is good but falls of a bit at the end in my opinion. The novel doesn't feel as fun compared to the beginning but that's natural. Very solid novel. <<less

This is gold

  1. Even though, it is harem it is acceptable. Don't say harem is bullsh*t because there are imperial harems throughout history.
  2. Unlike other novels, the enemies have their own interest other than MC girls. In most of Chinese novels the enemy life calling is to woo MC girls which is sickening.
  3. MC is really smart and he know how to survive longer in every situation. He may be a coward but when pushed too far, he will strike back like a dragon.
  4. MC know how to find loopholes in rules and it is totally hilarious.
This is second cultivation novel that suit my taste in reading.

(If find the writing strange or if it's wrong, I'm sorry about that, I'm not English.)

I started on the recommendation of a friend and I say it was a great idea. I love this MC so much, the way he manages to make all the other characters hate him but still admire him is so hilarious.

And yes, as lucky and naturally brilliant as Bai Xiaochun is, he is also hardworking. Does protagonism have a lot of influence on his achievements? But now tell me, which protagonist is not... more>> like that?

And it may be that I'm wrong since I've been reading it for a long time, but I don't think his protagonism has much influence. He starts off as a weird and fearful character, which is why I think his cultivation path would obviously be different from others, as his fear of death is extreme and cultivation is a path that would easily lead to death.

If you like cultivation novels or want to start reading, you can't miss this one. It's amazing work, I strongly recommend you read it. <<less

Its well put for the most part. Easy reading without too many complicated names, places and overall cultivation theme things. Its jovial with good progress.

Like any other LN it has its problems and things that may put off some people, but I still thinks that compared to most all-time top-rated LN in this website deserve a rating of 4.5 at least.

Prepare yourself to some overused jokes and some easy to ignore plot holes and you will enjoy the novel.
