Of the ancient gods, only one remained in the world. This god lived alone for thousands of years and no longer had any desires. Legend has it that—during the great war between the worlds—he used his powers to turn the tide, managing to seal the cataclysmic rift and bring order back into the three realms. Time flew by and hundreds of years passed in the blink of an eye.

In this time, Shen Li was born into the demon world. Known as the Azure Sky King, she was used to living a bright and dazzling life full of successes. Little did she know that her 1000th birthday would bring misfortune to her doorstep—a politically arranged marriage with her name on it. The Azure Sky King would henceforth marry the thirty-third grandson of the Heavenly Emperor, Fu Rongjun. This arranged marriage was meant to unite the Heavenly realm with the Demonic Realm, bringing the two together. Most would consider it good fortune to be related to the Emperor.

Unfortunately, Fu Rongjun was infamous throughout the two realms for his Casanova personality. As the King who called the shots in the Demonic Realm, she had the ability to quell uprisings and end wars with a swing of her silver spear—there was absolutely no way she would marry such a flirtatious idiot. She had to escape from this marriage somehow even if it meant death!

In her escape, Shen Li never expected to meet a man that didn’t belong to any of the three realms. This oddball was truly strange!

It's like a 4.5 but I'll round up just because of all the feels - the frustration, laughter, tears ahh why does JLFX like to do us like this. This is another time I'm falsely promising myself not to get distraught from her work again.

anyway, tldr for now is that you should absolutely read this. The translation is a bit weak at times but the story is excellent. The female lead is strong, decisive, committed and straightforward - you'll love her and her hilarity, even when you at frustrated with... more>> her. I liked that she was very human and worked hard to hide her vulnerabilities - that you feel for her - just so that she can fulfill her heavy responsibilities. I like how assured she is with herself and her decisions, which makes for an excellent read. The ML, even though a bit annoying in the beginning, develops so greatly that you just can't help but love and feel for him and his responsibilities.

I'll edit this later with more spoiler/ish parts of the review but for now, absolutely recommend not just for the leads but also for the side characters!

So sad about Feng Lai though. He didn't even get to see and talk to his daughter! Ah I'm crying again. Like I knew the leads in JLFX books have to 'die' at some point but why did they have to do Feng Lai like that too? I just wanted for him to get to bond and live with his daughter and they can be happy - I just knew that they'll kill him but like why didn't h when just have some time to chat a bit 😭

The story is amazing. The plot is also really good. I love the character Shen Li/ Chen Li.

why ppl always want FL in book/novel to be fragile and damsel in distress, will being played by ML and always has to sacrifice. If the FL is fierce and independent and righteous they will be annyoned by her BUT if the ML is like that ppl will droll and dream of him.

This story really makes a good drama. (But really didn’t watched it yet) Love the MC, she brave, funny and straightforward. Love ML too, he’s a great tease, funny and lobes MC very much ch. I love their interaction and the story wrap up are really good. A great read. Thank you

To me it was a satisfying read. It had funny things, action, and romance.

The interactions between Sheng Li and Xing Zhi were so sweet even if they drove me nuts staying away from each other.

And though there may have been a few characters I wished had their own happy endings or a more elaborate one, It is more believable that only some got to a happy ending.

I thank the translators and of course the author for bringing us this story.

This one got me.

I honestly thought Shen Li would be just another 'strong girl', that's actually just selfish and inconsiderate like in other books. But truly not, she is more than just strong, she's sweet, loyal, brave and responsible.

This story really teaches about responsibility, and that's the main point of 'dragging' here. Xing Zhi has to carry all that heavy burden alone, and Shen Li had her own identity as a guardian to her people. They loved each other but could not be together, because besides their love, they had... more>> duties. Is really a bittersweet love throughout.

Soul mates not always get together because their circumstances are just so.

There's really more to it than the eyes can see, figures of such power and respect, had so many restraining chains tied to themselves. Is like a Romeo and Juliet, but with a HE.

Recommend this for you if you're looking for a refreshing couple, good plot and world set, also there's action/fights as it's xianxia and all. Really enjoyed this.

Read from : c4 onwards @ justreads // c4 preceeding @ Potatoes Have Eyes But

This was surprisingly good, well written and well interpreted. One of the few translations that take care to make sense all across the board without any strange wordings. I especially want to highlight the wording from justreads - make good sense. I am so pleased with that. Nicely edited! Bravo to the translators. Bravo to the author.

The story itself seems be broken up into arcs.

1. Mortal realm arc - the most amusing arc with lively interactions... more>> between the two main characters. Good witty dialog

2. Demon realm- more informative with information about the realms.

3. Mixed realm - takes place between all three realms with more exposition.

4. Current arc is the heaven arc. The slowest arc so far but has the most character development. <<less

Translations are good btw. Not 100% no grammar mistake, but you can understand most and still have an enjoyment in reading it. (The MoonBunnyCafe translation.)

I gotta say, this is one hidden gem. I’ve read countless of novels (chinese, korean etc) but none has me this hooked with its characters. They’re all (most) evidently unique and truly loveable. The MC isn’t overbearing, or a complete black bellied or one of the reincarnated/fallen Miss. Her background is different, it reminded me of Three Lifetimes. The author has seemingly put a great... more>> effort in making every character feel more alive.

It’s definitely a good novel where it doesn’t centre on the schemes and useless subplots.

I can’t say much since this is my first review on NU, but if you’re looking for a change of pace or a wholesome story, Accompanying the Phoenix is the way to go. <<less

One of the most beautiful c-webnovels I’ve ever read imo, I honestly cannot really describe how much I love this story. It is perfectly paced, not too short or too long. And omg, their love story is so wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time - the sacrifice they need to make in order to be together. Despite their want and need to uphold their responsibilities, their love is stronger. No matter how much they try to not feel it because they know they are not allowed to even have... more>> it, it is still prevail.

6/5. Extra star for how much I enjoyed it. Quite exciting martial arts fighting. MC/FL is a powerful fighter so beautiful.

Early translations is a bit awkward but I get the gist. Justreads has excellent translations.

I'm loving the power FL. Caring but not wishy-washy. ML is a worthy match.

I like how females can take the role of king. Heheh. ML is so OP and great sense of humor. Such a darling.

I read this because the translations were completed, and overall I would give it a 3.5-4 stars.

Honestly, the storyline or plot lost interest near the end for me. I felt like it wasn't hooking or interesting enough for me to bing it so Im glad that this novel is not too long. This is why I did not rate it a 5 stars, and also maybe because I have read better novels so I was more critical on this one. Overall, it was still definitely a nice read, especially if... more>> you like independent and strong leads, but it might not be like a novel that leaves a very deep impression on you like the type you would remember months later. I was also reading a lot of xianxia novels before this so maybe I was a little sick of the immortals/demons type of story.

The leads are likable, and have very strong personas. I really like the strong ties and emotions that the female lead not only had for the male lead, but also for her home, the Demon Realm, but sometimes I do feel like she is a little too hotheaded and impulsively resorts to violence to solve problems. The male lead treats the female lead very well, and respects her a lot through the entire novel. The romance feels a little big tragic as they both have very high status and can't afford to develop feelings, but in the end, LOVE wins!!! <<less

Alert. English is not my first language.

A not to long story but an amazing one. This is basicly a love story bethween two strong characters with big responsabilities. Both were in love but there were many reasons why they can't be together. This story is that. Why sometimes even when there is love between two persons circunstances don't allow more.

There's still more: Jealous characters, fluff moments, epic fights, funny conversations and feelings. Lot of them.

Towards the end I have some questions the story don't solve and I think were important.... more>> That's why the four stars.

The gods. In the story is mencioned they were once ancient gods no one still alive except for Xing Zhi but there was a character with the title of "god". That means the other ones weren't gods? If is, are they inmortals? Or if they were gods what were the difference between them and the ancient gods?

Mo Fang. I know Mo Fang loves Shen Li but his plans were there even before and after that. Did he really leave his plan of hundred of years o did he only want to save Shen Li's live? I really would have like more details about this.

The demon emperor. At the end I really have doubts about the demon emperor fealings for Shen Li. I know is an emperor and have to take care of his people but her accions were incogruent when she said to Shen Li's father were was his daughter. She said it knowing the posibilitie of he killing her?

Still I have a complaint. Xing Yun identity was easy to discover probably because when I was reading the description I asked myself: why are mencioned in the introduction the ancient gods? Probably is an important part of the story, maybe the antagonist or something like that but event if it's the case is it very important to mencioned it at the beginning? Always in the descripcion there're mencioned the protagonist and his love interest so...

What else can I say, it's a Jiu Lu Fei Xiang novel so it's a given that it's great. Glad the translators hung in there and finished the novel. I liked Shen Li enough but I have to say she isn't my favorite JLFX FL. Xing Zhi, on the other hand, I am on the fence. I don't know if I like him or not lol. Anyway, the story itself was good and thankfully most of the translations were excellent. It's a nice short read.

This novel was certainly a good one to read.

I love the characters and the plot was also pretty good. It had just the right amount of emotions and the storytelling was well executed.

The way that they fell in love in a small courtyard without telling each other their identities is just so cute to me. They love each other for how the other person is. I could really empathize them both falling in love. He sees a strong and righteous girl that genuinely cares for her people while she sees someone who might seem uncaring but somehow treats her really well.

At first I thought that the FL fell too fast for the ML but while reading I understood that her feelings were still developing and she feels more deeply towards the end.

It was so heartbreaking to see them both having to be apart because of their heavy responsibilities. They love each other so much and just know the other does too.

The loss the ML felt thinking he lost her brought me to tears.

The way he mourned while knowing he mustn’t and knowing he lost the chance to tell her that he loves her was incredibly heartwrenching.

I didn’t like the extras about the parents and how they ended up in the main story but that was just a small part so it’s fine.

I felt rlly bad for the traitor he he loved her but he was just so controlled by his father. He helped her again and again. He could’ve been such a good person deserving of someone who loves him back.

To summarize, I rlly loved this novel especially the romance aspect. It was rlly well written in pacing and in showing the emotional changes of the characters. <<less
