I love this so much!

No boring chapters.

It's the first time I read a novel that justice is well served. An eye for an eye. Honestly when I read novels that the villain tries to harm or kill the protagonist, then they are just thrown abroad or go to jail a few years. Or they just forgive them and just tell them don't bother them ever again. I just, meh 🤷🏻‍♀️ but its a novel anyway so just focus on other things just to be happy. 😆 Anyway, this novel is very... more>> well written. There are foreshadowings, all things are well put together. No abrupt scenarios. If there are, you won't think it is. I feel like the author laid down everything before writing. Which is good.

One thing I like best is I didn't get frustrated when the villains do bad things. Retributions came almost instantly. Protagonist is naive because of her age at the beginning of the novel. But she's lucky so.. Yeah. She's always good. And her grandma is OP so luck X2 😆 <<less

This is an excellent story that has all loose ends tied neatly. A young girl was hated/ab*sed by her biological mom and twin sister for something she had no control over. She saved the life of a mystical creature and was gifted the luck of the koi and turned the tragic fate of her entire family around. It is not romance focused until wayyyy later when the everyone in the family started to find their partners.

Grandparents were the best, as others have said. They raised all the kids to be... more>> as independent as possible, yet somehow eldest Qiao was as clingly as ever. Aside from Grandma's inhuman strength, it takes a strong woman to be resolute and unwavering in all she does. Grandpa was sweet and gentle and is all green flags.

The most comedy came from the first branch's eldest Qiao, his wife, son, and their daughter in law. One is just more silly than the other.

So much so that AhPing didn't know how to consummate his marriage. Husband and wife put it in the wrong hole!!!

While the leads' relationship was the one that span the longest time bc the two leads knew each since they were young children, everyone else's was told. My favorite secondary couple was third fraternal aunt and Wang family's third son. Following them has to be Wen Fei Bai and her fifth uncle's daughter, little cousin Qiao Dong Wan. Although this couple only had 1 chapter or so, it was short and sweet.

At first I thought it was sad what happened to ML's father. I didn't think it was fair that he was given such an ultimatum between his wife and the woman he married abroad due to losing his memory. Father Huo married Wang Anna as compensation to the family saving his life and he had two young children with her. He never loved Wang Anna, but he said he did love his wife in his inner monolog. Obviously, him getting Wang Anna preggo again after his memory came was what made me unsympathetic with him? Did I misread that part where Wang Anna fell? If she was knocked up after his memory came back then that's cheating, if not then Father Huo was dealt a bad card... *sigh*. He still wasn't a terrible character because he gave away so much of his wealth to his ex and son, knowing that he can never make up their suffering. That was his redeeming quality...

This novel truly hooks you in from the start. It was pure joy to read about the Qiao family from children to teens to adults to parents to grandparents. Everything was lovely. I would have given it 5 stars, but as someone else mentioned, the author was truly obsessed with white fair skin and really made dark skin seem like a horrible thing. Felt a bit racist but I understand that back then, lots of people thought that way, even nowadays some ignorant fools still do.

it was a great, face-slapping... more>> novel. Grandma was the best, she truly taught her kids and grandkids well. I laughed so hard at the first branch husband and wife, someone his wife pissed me off so much I wanted them to divorce but they’re both so s*upid and perfect for each other lol

im so happy each Qiao member found their better half. I loved our ML Huo Chi and how he doted upon our FL Da Qiao.

great novel, highly recommend!! <<less

"Highly recommended!! This is by far the funniest novel I have ever read. It's a fun and fluffy story without too much drama, revenge, or misunderstanding. Every character shows growth. The female lead is very calm, and while the story isn't full of romance, it is full of family and sibling bonds.

The female lead's grandma also has a magical experience and gains super strength. DaQiao's eldest uncle and aunt bring hilarity to the story. I absolutely loved it. You should read it!" Grandma and Grandpa deserve a whole different story.

I think it’s a 4 star novel but for since it has such low ratings and I honestly don’t believe it should be that low, so imma give a 5 star.

If you’re expecting a typical 60s/70s/80s novel about the FL struggling during 70s then getting rich and becoming a winner in life think again. There is little to no mention about the struggles and the Qiao family was rather well off in their village. Honestly, I feel that this is more of a family slice of life with the focus... more>> of the story being on everyone in the family and not the FL alone. And the way it is written is rather unique. There is also the fact that the novel’s FL isn’t a transmigrated/reborn person who knows the future development which is different from every other 60s/70s/80s novel.

In the beginning, I was quite ekked out by the brain dead side characters and exaggerated face slapping. Eventually, I found it quite humorous. Think 90s Hong Kong comedy films where words and actions are extreme and degrading to form a type of comedy (that may not age well especially in the current era but I feel that it’s still ok). Once you steel through the first 20 chapters or so, you may just find the novel a pleasant and humorous read.

But fair warning, if you’re uncomfortable with characters strong arming their way to get where they want, antagonist being hit but random falls, pee, and poop (like loads of poop), and female characters being called fat, ugly (because of their features or dark skin) and pig-like, this novel is really not for you. Like seriously don’t read it. The author uses this as part of her comedic writing.

I was reading “Back to the 60s” by the same translator and boy oh boy was this was a good change. The former was a lengthy slice of life but this I felt was a perfectly paced novel. The story starts out when the FL is 6 then proceeds until she gets married and had kids with an appropriate amount of time skips and a satisfying ending. The FL is the typical sweet and innocent Mary Sue type. As for the ML, honestly, one of the most realistic lovable ML. Not the nonsense ice mountain beauty or the silly puppy dog. More like a silly boy in love who makes the silly mistakes boys do when they are in love. Just read to get to know him.

In the beginning there is no direct face slapping, just misfortune befalling the antagonists in general. So, you have to bite your handkerchiefs a little. Also, I enjoyed most of the characters that the author had created. I feel that they aside from the FL (and the characters made to be dumb), everyone else had a depth of sorts which was rather surprising.

The couple I like the most is honestly the first branch’s. Though it starts out with the eldest brother calling his wife dumb, ugly and pig-like, you really can’t hate him because he does it with no malice at all. Their couple interaction gets funnier the more you read it. And the next most lovable couple would be their son’s and his wife. Simply too cute and dumb.

Overall, I’d say it’s a recommended slice of life novel for those looking for a more different style of writing and more comedic moments. Not recommended for those looking for a struggling-in-the-60s novel or for those who get triggered by female characters being called fat and ugly. <<less

Well, the MC had a super lucky life after saved the magical fish, inshort the fish was a 18th daughter of a dragon?. In the end, after being save and take the fish to the waterfall, the fish gifted MC a magical koi figured. Then that's the beginning of changes the fate of MC and the people loved MC.

Overall, it was okey. Well the MC twin was useless of being a returner. The 2 characters that I like was the MC's grandparents.

I thought it was just a short novel because... more>> it only had 170 chapters, but it wasn't, every chapter was long. <<less

Not rating yet as still unsure to my rating, so far the story is good, pacing is nice and every chapter there's something to catch your attention it just that I find the mini-arc about the Qiao's fifth son and his family quite disappointing.

Spoiler

The fifth son is introduced to have only one daughter with his wife. Wife is negligent with the child and too preoccupied in wanting to fulfill her wife duties, while husband is too preoccupied with his father duties with his daughter after an event that led to injuring his little thing.

One day, the daughter was kidnap because wife unconsciously left her alone when she tried to take her bag back. Although they got their daughter back after many twist and turns, it scar the husband as how could she left her child for her bag + how uncaring she is for her child. While wife because of husband become colder and uncaring for her became more worried of her status quo.

Honestly, this is such an unfortunate story. As much as I hate the wife for not taking care of her child well, I pitied her as I feel like a lot of this has to do with how the society is patriarchal.

Like I wouldn't be surprised if girl just don't like children or being a mother at that age but had to do it to survive. Had she been in this today's time she could be doing her own thing and making her own status quo, instead she's in the past where the only way to survive is to cling on a man.

Tho, this in no way remove the fact that she was a negligent mother. She is, but I just find it annoying that they pin all the blame of that broken marriage on her. Her cheating did set it to stone, but honestly what can she even do? Her parents aren't as kind as our Qiao family that they would willing and heartedly support a divorcee daughter. In short she was trap in a marriage, with s*xual frustation and a husband that is uncaring for her needs.

If this was in today, there's obviously 0 excuses why you couldn't divorce before doing it with others, but in this case tho?? I honestly don't know. Cheating is bad and obviously no excuses for it. I guess I just find it difficult to implement this notion thinking of that time. Like honestly, there wasn't even much focus on the fact that the husband suck at being a husband to his wife and reassuring her, it's as if so long as he's a good father then it doesn't matter if he avoid his wife because she deserve it for being negligent instead of having a heart to heart convo talking of their needs and wants, not just about him demanding her to do what he wants (to be a good mother to their daughter) and then later ignoring her needs lmao.

It's not the best but it's funny af. Just kill a few braincells when you read it. I read with the mentality of being a poison tester and I can say this is a pretty good one. Plus most of the jokes aren't lost in translation as it happens most of the time..

Spoiler

First Qiao and his wife are the my fav characters 😂. They are both brain dead characters but they are half the reason why find this novel a fun one
