Yuan Ye and film emperor Fang Shaoyi were married for ten years. After a stamp from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, they got divorced and their red booklets became green booklets. Back when they had gotten married, they had proudly announced the news to the whole world. After their divorce, though, neither dared to speak up, determined to hide this development.

Film emperor gong vs writer shou. Regarding accompaniment, regarding companionship. Regarding those things inseparable and difficult to speak of about affection.

Summarized in one phrase: We were in love for thirteen years, and then we got divorced.

It was painful, especially at the beginning where you could tell that they both still loved each other, but couldn't voice it to the other. The romance was tooth rotting sweet in their youth and as they reconciled. My only complaint would be the ending, which was what brought down my score.
Spoiler

I thought it was a very cliche move to have the male lead get into an accident. It was obvious that due to this accident out of fear ML would propose remarriage. Although, it was heart breaking when the doctor asked for a relative's signature and Yuan Ye could not do it since they were no longer married.

Its a well written entertainment bl story compared to most I've read. Sometimes I crave angst where couple breakup not because of cheating or scummy chara but due to realistic reason, this novel indeed satisfied that but not to the extent where I wanted to stop because its too much.

Spoiler

I actually dont like some of MC's characteristics but maybe thats what made the story great.

MCs frankness and disdain on the black areas in entertainment industry is kinda irritating. He knows that its filthy and scary and yet he wouldn't let ML temporarily retreat. I get that he's afraid the ML is compromising for him, but meh it looks like to me, for him ML is not ML if hes not in the industry. (Contradicts his statement after their variety show)

The ml's stand on divorce for me is acceptable. It kinda looked like he forced MC to sign the papers even if MC is on the verge of crying. But if it was me id do the same, cause MC did say he wanted to separate he said it, meaning he's been thinking about it for some time. That's a red flag that he's not happy anymore and with his attitude before the divorce it just shows how hes tired of their relationship.

ML is also to blame for lack of communication, come on dude you also notice how MC compromised and changed to something you don't want him to be (taciturn) and yet you just kept it to yourself.

Gosh that was long rant. There's a part of me that kinda wished they didn't get back together 😂

I really loved this one. The way their relationship has slowly changed was described very well and with a good amount of maturity. They both definitely had a good amount of character development. I also liked that both of them had their own life and people in it and neither of them had single-minded love brain.

The weakest part imo was the arc describing how the divorce itself happened.... more>>
Spoiler

I feel like they needed a separation... but I don't think it needed to be a divorce? Not to mention, the way ML went about it really rubbed me the wrong way. I do however understand that when MC suggested it, they had already separated in his heart.

[collapse]

All in all, it really goes to show just how important communication in relationship is. There were many bittersweet moments but there was also a lot of fluff. I have really enjoyed this and even lost sleep to finish reading. The translation was also delightful. <<less

In conclusion, the story is really great. It is very realistic and angsty. I saw both the MC and ML together after they were divorced and I felt so suffocated for them because from the little things they do and the things they say and how they behave, I can honestly see that both of them still love and care for each other alot. So at that time, I couldn't understand why they actually divorced each other if they still had feelings for each other. But then after reading the flashbacks that explained the reason for their divorce (which is around the second half of the novel, which is also quite late) I understood. Honestly, even if it was me at that point in time, a divorce would be an ideal solution for whatever their problem is. Though another way is for them to talk and say everything out but I do think that one year away from each other allowed the both of them to think through everything and solve their own issues, so that when they finished solving their own issues they can approach each other and solve the other problems together.

[collapse]

It was definitely an angsty read, but nonetheless very well written. It made me so emotional throughout and I was feeling so bad for both the MC and ML. But there are also times when the story made me smile and laugh so I think it's a good mix of fluff and angst :) <<less

Just like the author's other story Tattoo, it's a very mellow and down-to-earth story about an actor and a writer who divorced, yet they left each other filled with unresolved emotions and tensions. While this one is a bit less exciting due to the fact that there isn't really any pursuit, and is more about rekindling feelings and working out past issues as to why they broke up; it's still quite a good read. It's very mellow, there isn't much drama or any third parties trying to bu*t in besides... more>> the whole "why did they break up" question that lingers.

Characterization wise, MC and ML are nice in that they both have backbones, they both have a temper (MC more so than ML) but both show they really care for each other even if it's just trying to let the other come out as unscathed by scandal or criticism as possible. ML isn't a "cold, stoic, dictator/cool guy" type either, which is a little uncommon. As for plot, what you see is what you get, it's watching and waiting for the two to work out their feelings and remarry. There is a side couple, but honestly in my opinion they should have gotten their own story for they are much too complicated and interesting for just a few hints and an extra chapter.

Overall, if you liked Tattoo, you'll more or less like this one. While I can't say there wasn't a second that I felt that the story was a little boring, it was still a fun time for the most part and honestly I would rate this as a 4.5 in my book. If you're tired of dramatics or just want a romance with older men who aren't so naive, I do recommend giving this a shot. <<less

The thing is they lived together for many years but never had a proper conversation... I mean they do talk, love and so on but they don't communicate when it's necessary meaning when they have issues

They just ignored it thinking everything is okay or act like such hence leading to divorce

Even after getting back together they never talked about what went wrong until things goes wrong again

This story flows like a calm stream, there are some turbulence sometimes, but it calms down soon once again..

* The characters are realistic.. MC is short tempered and straightforward, ML is quiet and distant.. They had burning passion.. But what happens after one and half a decade??? There would inevitably be some doubt or lack of communication which may cause some unforeseen events, such as separation here..

* ML comes from a famous family.. But he is not an omnipotent film emperor.. The film industry is not their playground, nor do... more>> the directors or actors boot-licks them..

* The scene prior to the divorce is saddening.. ML's accident was worrisome.. But within next few chapters the sad feelings mellows out.. All over, there's no intense emotion..

* I enjoyed the filmmaking scenes.. I liked how ML had to practice a smile day by day for hundreds of times just to perfect it, that he still now needs time to get into the character.. It felt real..

* It totally creeped me out when a bloodied male actor was dragged out after getting r*ped.. It reminded me of the darkness of our real life film industry..

* Netizens here don't get much screentime which is obviously a good thing..

* If you are tired of fast paced melodramatic stories, give it a try.. I personally prefer this one over Tattoo.. <<less

A solid one.i really really loved this both MC and ML balance each other

I must say like all other novel shows love forever but still the story ends in their twenties her ist DIFFERENT

Here MC and ML have lived and passed through their honeymoon phase they lived and etched each other in thie bones they have nothing more to know about each other where they does not loose passion but find where they are fault

They never hated each other even after divorce the reason of their divorce was itself for... more>> each other that was heart wrenching ML said he will give everything you need to MC and he really did give..

I love how mature author portrayed their love life even though no daily messages and calls he really depicted how they miss nd love each other I love how he showed to respect personal space.. How their love never left honeymoon phase even though their relationship marked 16 years journey

I really loved itt and I give a solid rec for everyone 🌷 <<less

I like how this author describes relationships—the vague and sometimes delicate dance of pushing and pulling. And for the most part, this novel had that too and made me experience that feeling of wanting to be with someone.

The main issue I had with this, and it was extra important because of the whole premise of the novel, was the reason for their separation to begin with. Perhaps I didn’t really see it but there were maybe the faintest hints of it throughout, only fully revealed at chapter 49ish. I would... more>> usually prefer it to be in the beginning, so that I can immerse fully in any crematorium chasing, and I kinda get the giddy high and happiness about getting together again after a long separation that erases all the negativity but

Spoiler

1) as two intelligent individuals, I would expect them to want to resolve the issue that had driven them to something so monumental as divorce as early on as possible and not let it drag. Although I enjoyed reading the fluff bits ahead, it felt incongruous after reading the reason

2) the reason itself. In any relationship, compromise is key and that is beautifully brought out in the novel. When it broke down and MC felt like he lost his sense of self and ML despairing because his lover that he fell in love with was changing who he was, was all well executed. But this leading to the divorce? I don’t get it. They’re mature and have been together for so long, it’s impossible that they’ve not fought in this manner before and had no precedence. Something that a simple hiatus, joint vacation to talk things out and could easily solve—especially since they were both already established in their careers to do take a break. There was no need for a paper submission for divorce. I feel like it could have stopped when ML forced MC to sign it, then threw away the paper. It was a good enough payback to hurt MC back, but to be so vindictive as to actually file? ML wouldn’t do that to MC when MC was already saying things like let’s try again and trying to take it back.

[collapse]

So while I appreciate the depth of emotion that the novel evoked—think I teared twice?—it didn’t make sense for me this time. <<less

5 stars. A classic reread. No love triangle or other love interests whatsoever, and the reconciliation made the relationship sweeter and stronger.

It is interesting to see MC and ML entangle in front of the cameras yet remain estranged behind the curtains. Then an epitome of true love in the entertainment industry, now a sunken ship; they coexist in the nostalgia of their past belonging. The angst is simply chef's kiss.

MC and ML have differences in personality and principles.

MC is a free-spirited and passionate writer; he can be impulsive... more>> and is certainly emotionally-driven in his principles. He detests the dirty side of the entertainment industry, but had to turn a blind eye most of the time for ML's sake.

ML is a second generation film emperor, having followed his father's footsteps in the industry. That said, he has a more rational approach to his principles, but is extremely resolute when his taboos are crossed. He is upright and doesn't participate in the dirty side of the industry.

Considering the abovementioned, the reason for the divorce and who divorced whom...

Spoiler

There was no cheating or accident that happened. It was an accumulation of minor issues that broke the MC and ML apart.

And I don't think it was out of impulse that MC suggested they separate. With his personality, I think he had already thought it through; he was not just ready to face the reality of it.

It was ML's all-or-nothing personality that drove him to serve the divorce papers decidedly, regardless of MC's regretful pleas.

I could understand why MC said those things because years of silent concessions for ML's sake have hollowed his principles and thus corroded his sense of self.

At the same time, I could see why ML responded the way he did. Through ups and downs, he would never think of separating from MC; how could he bear MC harboring thoughts of it?

ML to MC, "You were already thinking about separating in your heart, which meant I wouldn't be able to keep you anymore."

[collapse]

I find it masterful how the reason for the divorce was executed by the author, and how the resolution came to be.

Spoiler

History had repeated itself so MC and ML needed, once again, to face the situation that tore them apart in the first place, in order to resolve the recurring problems between them.

[collapse]

The title is also poetic.
Spoiler

ML's jacket was symbolic of a small stone that pushed their relationship off the cliff. Seemingly insignificant, but the jacket caused the quarrel that led to MC saying the wrong things and ML deciding to let go. But then before MC left their house for good, he brought the jacket with him.

[collapse]

Overall, I loved the complexities of the story, especially the imperfections of MC and ML and their very human desire for a second chance. <<less

A very beautifully written kind of angst. I think this is a story about finding yourself, after losing one, while loving someone wholeheartedly. We all know that it's very easy to lose ourselves while loving someone too deeply, so this novel is about how to 'relove' yourself but not losing the one you love. This was confusing for me at first because it was not very clear how they got separated and the way the story went, it felt like it was the seme's fault. This a good example of how a good relationship could fall apart because one partner lost his/her individuality. It's all right to dedicate yourself to your lover but never forget you are a person and you matter as well. All in all, this was a very good and a bit emotional read.
