Contemporary college student Ye Leyao died suddenly from staying up late, and found himself transported into a world where several novels merged together, becoming the useless adopted son of the prestigious Huo family.

The good news is that, apart from him, everyone else in the family is a big shot. Eldest Brother Huo is a legendary figure in the business world, Second Brother Huo is a top actor in the entertainment industry, and Third Brother Huo is a skilled esports player and boss.

The bad news is, these big shots are all antagonists, and none of them have good endings.

Even worse news is that, upon waking up, he finds himself in the middle of a cheap romance involving Second Brother, who is oblivious to the fact that the child in his lover’s belly isn’t his seed at all!

Ye Leyao couldn’t help but scream inwardly: “Aaaaaahhhh—seriously? This romance-idiot still doesn’t know the child in his lover’s belly isn’t his?!”

All eyes in the family suddenly turn towards him. The second brother even stumbles.

Everyone: What?!

The top-tier Huo family adopted a young troublemaker some years ago.

Initially, nobody in the family paid him any mind. That is, until they could all hear Ye Leyao’s inner thoughts—

Just as Father Huo brings his down-and-out friend home.

Ye Leyao’s inner voice: “Oh, so this is the little seductress trying to seduce Father Huo, plotting to make Mother Huo and Father Huo divorce, and wrecking the Huo family?”

Father Huo’s pupils dilate: “!”

That night, before Ye Leyao can subtly hint to Mother Huo, the little seductress is personally “thrown” out by Father Huo.

During breakfast at home, Eldest Brother Huo takes a video call discussing crucial shipment matters with his assistant.

Ye Leyao perks up his ears, muttering to himself: “Why do I vaguely remember a typhoon changing course to pass through this route in a few days? Big Brother’s business deal is definitely going down.”

Eldest Brother Huo: “…”

He immediately changes the shipping route with his assistant. Sure enough, five days later, news came that the original route was hit by a typhoon.

Afterwards, Eldest Brother Huo transfers five million into Ye Leyao’s account. Ye Leyao is astonished.

Eldest Brother Huo tries to remain composed, saying calmly, “Take it, you’ve earned it.”

Third Brother Huo isn’t home often. After the league ends, he brings his newly recruited team members home for dinner. Just as they enter the house, Ye Leyao stares keenly at his new teammates.

Third Brother Huo is about to warn Ye Leyao against premature romance, when he hears Ye Leyao whispering in his mind: “They’re handsome alright, but unfortunately, they’re moles sent by the rival team.”

Third Brother Huo: “!!!”

That night, Third Brother Huo begins investigating and not only discovers that the new teammates are moles from the rival team, but also finds out that his most trusted assistant has been secretly gathering data on their team!

A week later, another ten million appeared in Ye Leyao’s account.

Ye Leyao, holding the money happily: “Third Brother, you’re more generous than Big Brother!”

Just then, Eldest Brother Huo passes by: “…”

As a supporting character in the novel, Ye Leyao’s biggest dream is to save up money and flee with his family of antagonists when they hit rock bottom. Little did he expect that all these villains in his family would not only avoid disaster but thrive in their careers, and he would end up soaring with them.

Cute story that got a bit heavy towards the end. Overall an fun read with an unexpected reveal towards the end.

The plot outline is mostly as the intro states. MC, Ye Leyao, is carefree and likes to have a good time. He inadvertently helps his adopted family out of troubling situations since they can hear his inner monologues. ML, Qin Yao, is the pragmatic and doting type... all green flags.

Spoiler

Everyone in MC's family and ML can hear MC's inner monologues but MC isn't aware of this. Because MC likes gossip, he doesn't avoid it and even looks forward to watching it unfold. His family end up tagging along to watch the show whenever possible.

ML didn't know MC at the beginning of the novel but MC's thoughts helped him avoid a big loss. He started noticing MC and listening in on his thoughts to prevent mistakes.

MC and ML grow closer after MC enters the entertainment industry. And then their relationship progresses as expected.

BIG SPOILER...

...

MC is actually a system. He had entered the current world to try learn about emotions. Later he started to care for his adopted family and ML, so he wanted to save them. He had reset the world four times to accomplish this. The beginning of the novel is the fourth reset. MC ends up "dying" in ML's stead but comes back to the world after two years. He becomes a human so he and ML can be together for good.

was well-done. Perhaps its just my preference but I always looked into comedic / crack stories with more introspective lenses that these stories would have wanted, and because of this I cannot in good conscience say that this story is not without many faults. The most damning of which is the Huo Family's love for melon which at many instances just came off as the worst form of invasion of privacy. <<less

Dropping because I have a problem with this story

The way everyone in this story treat the actress with ED is just... sad.

Also to people who say it isn't ED, it isn't ED even though she vomited so much that her teeth decayed/corroded, isn't someone who induces themselves to vomit to this point, no matter the reason unwell? Isn't she pitiful? they even accused her of wasting food! (MC's mother)

... more>> (it's true I don't know anything about ED but this is what I think)

I feel sorry for her and I thought I was the only one because of how the author was treating it as a funny thing so much so the MC can't stop laughing... honestly I couldn't like the MC anymore..

The MC was laughing while thinking about how the doctor would find out that her teeth was corroded because of too much vomiting

Spoiler

MC [Not to mention that she isn’t actually unwell. If she really went to the hospital and the doctor found out her teeth were corroded and falling out due to long-term vomiting, wouldn’t that directly prove she was inducing vomiting? How would she maintain her foodie persona then?]

And this was Ml's reaction, "Qin Yao couldn’t help but laugh at this point"

[collapse]

And one more thing is that this is too fast paced and the comedy didn't sit right with me most of the time

At MOST 2 stars. <<less

DNF so I won’t give a rating, but I would rate this 2 stars at most. Although I found it fun at first to read about bad people getting their face slapped, I still find it uncomfortable to read about the MC and just a group of people reveling over another’s downfall. Yes, they are bad people, but there are always other ways to deal with them. Maybe turn them over to the police or something, sue them, etc. In this novel, it seems it’s normalized for people to shame... more>> others because they did bad things, and of course they deserve it. It’s fine to dehumanize them because they’ve been bad in the first place. Good thing it’s not the real world then, because otherwise... oh, isn’t that how cancel culture works? Haha. Anyway, I got tired of it eventually.

There was a big twist at the latter part of the story. I didn’t really get to really enjoy it though seeing as I didn’t finish the novel. I did get an idea about it. Although it seemed unique, I really no longer enjoy the story so I just gave up. <<less

Ah.... this novel is hard to rate.

From a technical standpoint, the writing is OK but lots of characters feel 2d. But then there is the "entertaining " part, which ramps up to 5 stars.... and there will be added depth to the characters in the last quarter of this novel.

So this is how this novel works: MC is a 18 year old youth, that allegedly transmigrated to a world where lots of novels cross. He read all of them but just now started to remember. He jotted down all... more>> the stuff he remembered and from there on went on a "melon feast". Unbeknownst to himself, his inner thoughts somehow were heard by his family. That "villain " family is a really wholesome family, where they live and respect each other, they might have a bit of a flaws though... they do love to enjoy gossip... as much as MC does.

So from then on, the family follows their little gossip king around from explosive event to the next... and so on... enjoying the background info's from MCs inner voice and never telling.

To be honest the character of MC is a clean and cute one. He is open about his feelings and loves gossip. While I personally feel that gossip in real life can be problematic, it gives of another kind of feeling in this novel. I love how they go as family to watch other people pit themselves and how everyone loves to join in. Though this modi is kind of repeating throughout 3/4 of this novel and started to get boring.

Throughout the novel there was not much romance to feel. Although we meet ML pretty fast, it starts out as more of a brotherly feeling. Those feelings develop on MLs side while MC seems really clueless and naive.

But then there started the last quarter of this novel and basically overthrew everything we thought to know. The characters get a bit more depth and our MC is much more than the eye meets. In retrospective the somewhat 70 chapters of "Gossip feast" are the crystallized rewards of the later chapters hard work. Sigh... that sentence might only make sense if you read the novel.

So would I recommend reading it? Yes I would. But you should keep away if you dislike watching people self-destruct and fall into their own pits. The main characters are all likable and although everyone seems gay, there are some happy hetero couples in there too. <<less

This novel is hilarous for me! I'm only on chapter 12, but we've got melon eating, dog blood mini-subplots, secrets revealed, fortunes changed, more melon eating! I just can't wait for whatever comes out of Ye Leyao's brain! It's like a bunch of novels I have already read sewn up together in a tapestry of shock for those who can hear YL's thoughts. He doesn't hold back, either (after all, these are his inner thoughts). I'm just a reader joining the novel crew to eat more melons! Update more later... more>> when I finish the novel.

Edit: I just to add a disclaimer that although this novel is humorous, it does poke a lot at certain characters' weak points and emotions (yes, including self induced vomiting, which may be a symptom of bulimia nervosa). It's really just a parody of random tropes in danmei, and people laughing at others' (likely deserved?) misfortune.

Edit 2: I'm now on chapter 74 and the novelty has worn off long ago, mainly because I don't like gossiping. It was all good when it was all in the family, but once it spread outside, just the idea is a turn off. Also, what romance? The book is almost over and at most, they've held hands. Ok.

I like the beginning, it was funny, and it is a parody, so not to be taken seriously at all. <<less

Still 5 stars for me. And yep many stories with MC knowing the "real" /behind the scene with his family and ML hearing his thoughts. Funny and at the same time you will realize how villainous some characters are with what they are truly like. There is a reason why MC family and ML can hear his thoughts. Many side couples here. Please read until the end so you will know better what MC went through.

MC deserves happiness together with his loved ones -who did not really commit any villain... more>> things -they just got wind up on the original story halo, so its up to MC to try to help them change their fate. Ready your tissues just in case^^ <<less

I'm on chapter 30, and I had to take a moment to pause.

Intentionally or not, the author has created a side character who looks like she has ED.

I understand that there may be cultural connotations that are missed. But it doesn't change the fact that I find myself panicking on her behalf rather than cheering on the MC. And from the comments, many people feel the same

... more>> But at the end of the day, this is a fictional character. The intentions of the author do matter.

So for now, because she is fictional, I've decided to consider her as someone from the Capitol in the Hunger Games. The kind who drinks laxatives to eat more food just to keep the party going, and is encouraged to do so socially. Based on the setting, those from the Capitol have perfectly healthy lives outside these parties. They just party by wasting food while the districts starve

I'm going to take a break, and then read whatever comes next with a huge grain of salt

Tbh, my immersion was ruined a while ago (esp with the previous arc ending... the way it did), but hey, the story's setup is interesting enough to make me want to give it a chance sometime in the future <<less

Everyone in this novel is who I would be if I were to ever transmigrate into a novel. It's funny how they put down everything just to see some drama. All those dog-blooded plots that you get aggravated about in other novels? The main characters are only bystanders and relish in it.

There are no real misunderstandings (except for those involved in drama), the family is very loving, and there's great communication. I think it ended very well and it's not that long at 100 chapters. There are 20 extras but... more>> that's only if you're interested in the side CPs and a few chapters on the main CP. <<less

It was fun at first but like others said it got upsetting during the traveling show. This family really likes to have fun at other people's expense. The people who get into these scandals deserve what's coming to them but I don't want my MC to revel in other people's misery. Especially people who didn't hurt the MC which is where the story looked like it was going.

The parents went with the MC during the recording of the TV show just so they could laugh at the celebrates. One of... more>> the actresses has a eating disorder and she's the type that binges on food and then throws it up later. They frame it like she's bragging about being able to eat a lot and still being skinny. It's what the author is implying because after having dinner she went to have instant noodles too. A few of the other celebrities followed her into the kitchen like it was a spectacle and one tried to insist that she eat even more noodles. All so she'd be forced to throw them up later. Then and there the story turned mean spirited.

I was reading the tags and had to laugh because I don't think this MC is a "Selfless Protagonist" at all. Looking at the other tags I might be wrong though. <<less

This is the first time that I'm gonna do this. But all I can say is that this danmei is very special to me now.

Now, I want to say that I finished reading it. And I can say that this isn't just your normal brainless qt danmei. It is more than that.

I actually didn't think much of it.... more>> But when I read those foreshadowings, I began to anticipate, that maybe it is more than what I expected. And it really was. So before judging it, I suggest that you really stick to reading it until the end.

It was different from other transmigration novels in that neither the MC nor the ML are any OP gary stu characters. Nor do they have big goals and aims. It's just a simple story of an MC who loves gossip and saves his previously ill-fated family and lover along the way. The big revelation in the last chapters also integrated nicely with the rest of the lightweight plot. It didn't... more>> feel forced or rushed.

What I liked the most was that the author tied up all the loose ends very beautifully. Every character got their share of spotlight and depth, that lifted them from the typical 2D personality that is usually assigned to the side characters in web novels.

This is a kind of novel that will satisfy you from the beginning to end without uprooting your emotions. I definitely recommend reading it.

Spoiler

Another special highlight was Huo Yan's ending. Unlike other characters who had distinguished partners, the author portrayed Huo Yan's journey very beautifully. Because his experience in love was relatively different from the other characters. He tasted the betrayal and heartbreak first. So it would have been a little stereotypical if he also immediately got together the moment his real love interest showed up in the extra. That chapter showed how Huo Yan had grown over the years. From being hurt to feeling sadness and regret, then the annoyance, the feeling of being left out while everyone around him was getting in relationships, then finally accepting that although he could love and learn to trust someone again, he was cautious about finding the right person. Because he didn't want to waste his feelings, efforts and time over a s*um again. And then Feng Rui entered his life, and gradually took down his walls. I'm glad that instead of writing a "happily ever after" for him like the other characters, the author ended his story at the point where his journey with FR began.

I rarely write reviews for novels I read, but I really want to share!! So this might be messy

This is worth reading, MC doesn't have the usual cliche plot armor in showbiz novels like excellent acting talent, he came to the entertainment industry really just to eat melons on the spot!

I also read some low-rated reviews on this novel, but I saw them stop reading in the middle of the novel (or even earlier). You will understand why they always 'eat other people's melons' if you read until the end,... more>> also about why MC, ML, and their families didn't get involved in the scandal (even though some of them almost and even did get gossiped about like our poor second brother lol) because that's the purpose of this story.

and finally I just want to share my favorite sentence in this novel.

"He is cells, I am data; we are a match made in heaven."

that's chapter makes me cry continuously, because sometimes I don't really understand humans either too (it's too complicated) <<less

Huo Yan is MVP. Ye Leyao is badass and Qin Yao is the cutest.

Now let me just tell you one thing. Read this book till the end. Don’t regret it.

Most of those who’ve left bad reviews and dropped the story do it during chapters 29-60 for minor reasons, and if anything irks you, just skip it and read till the end. As for chapter 29-30. I’ll go into detail about it below.

... more>> PLOT:

The plot of ASPWL is actually very similar to how ORV is executed, which 90% of the novel being fillers with some content and most of the details and plot points revealed in the last 10% (in the case of ORV, the epilogue.)

honestly most people drop ORV in the 200-300 point and never read it again but talk amazing about it anyway even though the book at that point was barely decent since people like to go with the flow, since it’s popular, it’s got to be good right?

Well it is, just not before you complete the epilogue. Similarly, ASPWL is the same, the book before the last 10% is just decent, but the entire feeling changes after. So I highly recommend you complete it.

For any small plot arc or gossip that isn’t interesting, I recommend you just skip to the next tone. This kind of novel is very interesting to us, pinoy, chinese and Indian because this sort of serialization is very popular among the aunts, fathers and uncles who sit at home and crack melon seeds to watch families fall apart on TV. But I recommend you read all of Huo families, my baby Qin’s and our other beloved reality show characters. [吃瓜][吃瓜] CHARACTERS: very mild spoilers below.

Many may feel Ye Leyao is too detached and sometimes it feels inappropriate to laugh about all this but let me get this straight. This author is amazing at understand human mentality and nature. Quoting both Stella Jang and Oscar Wilde. “Your most hated enemy is the most beloved child of a mother.” And “There are no bad or good people, just interesting and boring ones.” It’s true. If I read the story from Zhehan’s perspective, I may have felt Qiran was a hypocritical crybaby who’s craving attention or if I read it from Gu Ruo’s perspective I may have felt Qin Yao was really annoying.

There is no black and white, why not just be a neutral viewer? Not be biased. Laugh when funny and don’t laugh when boring. Simple.

Qin Yao is not the simple passerby you think he is. He is.. He is everything.
Spoiler

His love for Leyao is so prevalent, so strong, he suffered so much and Leyao saved him, they both become what the other most needed.

[collapse]

As for the sweetest Huo family, each brother has a distinct personality which is also quite fun to read about but- Huo Yan. My beloved, baby Huo Yan.

Spoiler

The way my heart broke to a million pieces when it was mentioned he self-harmed, every piece of Huo Yan deserves happiness. I’ll do anything for it.

[collapse]

ROMANCE:

Initially I was to write- Don’t focus on the main CP! Side CP! MORE GOSSIP!

I’ve wronged you my baby Leyao and Qin Yao, I say as a tear rolls down my cheek- I was initially waiting to read about Qiran and Zhehan but my heart couldn’t recover from Yaoyao and Qin Yao, my heart still hurts to think about these two. My beloved, oh.. Love.

It’s beautiful, trust me. Author knows what she’s doing. Side CPs are amazing too, where do we get so many high quality CPs from?! There’s too much to eat. [Doge]

———————

Let’s talk about chapters 29-30. He

First of all, the girl does not have Bulimia! Please do not spread misinformation. She would be diagnosed with other unspecified eating disorders that don’t fall under specific categories. While her symptoms seem quite similar to Bulimia Nervosa, she seems to also exhibit symptoms of Purging disorder (not purging, Purging disorder.)

We could consider her to have Atypical Bulimia Nervosa, it would be the closest, but it is not Bulimia. Moreover, these chapters aren’t about eating disorders at all. It’s a serious ethical and moral issue.

Sure, it wasn’t dealt with in the ‘serious’ way you may have wanted, but readers aren’t s*upid, we netizens are supposed to understand the implications ourselves.

This utilitarian vs ethical scenario. Apologies if I’m getting too technical but what that streamer is doing is a lot more severe than the reactions she got that day.

She does not have any impulsive eating tendencies and is intentionally eating high quantities despite not wanting to, to show that she can keep slim despite eating lots. Yes, this is a waste of food!

This sort of media influence affects millions of girls on douyin, bilibili, weibo, streaming apps and what-not! The point is ‘induced vomiting’ isn’t a secret! It’s not something not known. People know that woman do it to give others the image of having high metabolism, and people also know it’s a dangerous idea to instill into the minds of young girls who also want model bodies and envious metabolism. She did it despite knowing that. She brought upon this persona, knowing she’s harming millions of girls out there. Sure, she has her own issues but what she did, considering the consequences was most definitely- morally unethical.

You can induce vomiting- I can. Everyone can, imagine the effect? Don’t immediately rush off to jump someone’s throat when an eating disorder isn’t acknowledged, in consideration to the millions of girls who are being influenced, as a neutral viewer, her troubles are not ours to worry about.

Like they said- go to the hospital. Get therapy. Don’t bother others.

—-

Overall, I highly recommend this book. Really do read it, it’s very fresh. <<less

Many thanks to the people who translated it.

And one additional note: I honestly don't understand the problem with people criticizing the mockery of the girl in episode 29 who was vomiting, they weren't making fun of her; they were making fun of the situation she put herself in, even though she knew the show she was participating in was live and there were quite a few guests, she... more>> still overate even after everyone else had finished and then started vomiting in the communal bathrooms.
