Good, but parts of this drag as some characters cannot give up their initial goal and some misunderstandings are a little... dumb.

Spoiler

Such as one guy immediately thinking his uncle fell in love with the MC. All because he kept sending things to the MC's family. Even though the guy was there when his uncle asked the MC about her mother being home. Sorry, but my logical thought process is to go for age group first which would have been the MC's mother. I did find it funny though.

[collapse]

The MC is Xia Shige, an initially very kind-hearted young woman who is reborn after returning to her biological family and experiencing the worst life ever. Immediately, she sets out to protect her adopted family from their early death and sets off chain reactions that cause a whole host of changes. Initially, she decides she is going to let Karma sort out the people who hurt her if they don't act like terrible people (spoiler, they're still terrible). All of that changes when she discovers that some of those people are reborn and then it's game on.

There is no ML in this story. There are a few people interested in her, but she's really just dedicated to protecting her family. There are a few side relationships that are kind of sweet but mostly predictable.

The side characters were entertaining to read, but most become the MC's helpers. The MC's space also becomes a side character as it manifests as a little white cat.

Unfortunately, this story has an issue with the people not aligned with the MC. Everyone is incredibly malicious but the men are all sleazy and nearly all the women are s*upid. While most of them all have the same setting of doing terrible things, some characters do have character growth.

Spoiler

Like the birth family. Their singular focus on the MC is "how can she benefit us?". There is no growth for them for this (except the mother... kind of... I won't spoil that though). Even regaining the memories of the previous life has no change on their focus. Except maybe causing them to double down on it.

Character growth, though, happens for some others, such as the new wife of the MC's ex. She hangs around for almost the entire story and gradually becomes the occasional help to the MC. She's also one of the few early antagonists who quickly realizes that the easiest way to live is to not target the MC.

[collapse]

The tidbits about the previous life were pretty interesting as well. We get multiple characters thinking about how things unfolded and learn about what happened to the MC and everyone in the previous life. Mostly, we learn about how she was treated, but one character does dream about how everyone else met their end.

Spoiler

The Lu older brother dreamed of the Cat killing everyone at a banquet in the previous life. In the main life, the Cat was a friendly white fluffball that followed around the MC. In the previous life, it apparently turned into an armoured monster that devoured the various people the fake daughter knew. The side story explains why it did that.

[collapse]

The main downfall of this story is that it drags things out, like I mentioned earlier. Even with the time skips of months, we have event after event, and some of them feel unnecessary. There is a lot of content that doesn't really contribute to the overall story. Some minor things, but at least one full arc that really does nothing to progress the story other than to introduce a few side characters who are only mentioned once or twice after that.

Spoiler

Such as the majority of the arc in the high rise building felt like it was padding out the story. While it was the part of the story that promoted the MC's mother, there was so much to it that it didn't need. Like the three brothers who decided they were going to take over the building or Li Mengdi's family who were dedicated to just the son in the family. It felt like they were added in to showcase the MC and her friend being capable of being ruthless when needed (something we already knew about the MC by this point).

Then there is the fate of the fake daughter. At first, the MC was going to leave her alone but after learning that she had been reborn, the MC had zero qualms about sending her to hell. Literally. She forcefeeds the fake some medicine that will make it so she can work without food or sleep for an obscene amount of days, and then ships her off to some mining colony in space. After that, the MC doesn't even check on her (she does check on the other guy she sent for the same experience) and only thinks of her after someone else brings up that the fake is missing.

[collapse]

As the story progresses, the MC does remain slightly kind-hearted as she is willing to donate some of the supplies she has to help the community she's in. However, she becomes very ruthless when dealing with people who try to harm her or her family. But it's not just her that becomes ruthless, the endings of some of the antagonists shows that the world has become a much harsher place.

Spoiler

Seriously, with all the terrible things people do to each other in this novel, the police force often feels like it's reacting with a 'well, they were bad so they deserved it' opinion. Multiple people get shot by the MC (or her mother) and the police force just treats it as another day.

It even feels like the main police officer was covering up some of the MC's actions. Especially given that she was the main person involved in taking down a lot of evil groups. No one ever really brings up the fact that she is the one common denominator throughout the whole story.

[collapse]

Overall, I enjoyed it. Especially since she actually used her farming space and it became a pivotal part of the MC's story. The side story at the end is also a nice wrap up and explains what the space is and how the rebirth happened.

Spoiler

Apparently, the space is from another planet that had a more evolved civilization. When the planet had reached it's end, the civilzation coded their world into systems and the Space system was the records of the mountains and rivers of that planet. Earth turned out to be similar to it's home planet so it landed there and hid out for a few billion years, turning into a piece of white granite.

The MC used to play around the piece of granite it was from with the other kids in the neighbourhood. The space actually became attached to her but went to sleep after she moved away. During the disasters, it was accidentally bound to the fake daughter and initially decided to take good care of her. Only to then to witness the MC's horrible life. After taking another nap because the fake was ignoring everything other than the water in the space, it woke to discover what they had done to the MC.

So it snapped, broke free of the fake's control and became a beast so it could kill everyone who hurt the MC. And then it got help from a different system to reset time so that it could try to save her.

As far as apocalypse goes, it's pretty tame... There's no zombies or mutant animals. Just several continuous natural disasters.

But the government still can provide food supply, and the society didn't completely collapse. People can still afford to buy jewelry, gems and medicine even at high price...

The MC is pretty good. She's good to those that are good to her, and ruthless to her enemies. I especially like that she never give a damn care to the biological family. She care greatly for her adoptive family and friends.

No romance in foreseeable... more>> future. A lone heroine in apocalypse novel is very rare, so I hope that didn't change anytime soon. <<less
