I just finished the whole 300+ chapters and I have never felt so lonely in my life knowing that their love story is done but even though it is, it was very beautiful indeed!. I urge you guys to read this, I tell you, I got so HOOKED!!! The book made me laugh, cry, scream and gave me all sorts of emotions. The ANGST, oh my God, SO MUCH ANGST.😭😭 It made me want to skip a few chapters (which I did cause my heart couldn't take it). I... more>> feel my heart breaking to tiny little pieces every freak'n sad moments to the point where it gets so hard for me to not feel sad in reality. It is so hard to detach myself from every little heartbreaking moment. But it was all worth it for their beautiful ending. Of course, the hilarious and HAWT PPP scenes were so exhilarating. This is probably one of the few books that had funny PPP scenes. Also, the first ever danmei novel i've read where in the main CP is reversible, and in great detail if I may say so. 😝😝😝😝 All in all I give it a 11/10. Truth be told, I first got a glimpse of this book because of the hot scenes on the drama series but since it was banned (sad to say, as we all know, censorship) I had to finish what I started. One of the best out there. For some it might not be their cup of tea due to its flags of non-con but for some, do keep an open mind as the story progresses, in other words, just be patient with it. I assure you it's worth it. ≪3 Thanks also to the translators of this novel for a JOB WELL DONE! <<less

Was ok at first but it felt like the story was dragged on too long purposely that I lost interest along the way. Slow paced. Both MC and ML are quite s*upid in a way that Gu Hai did everything to please Bai Luo Yin but the later didn't even see it nor appreciate it. Worst, always got mad at Gu Hai. He kept on forgiving Louyin first no matter how grieved he was, always taking the first step to reconcile. Etc, etc. Not into martyrdom drama.

Anyway, if you want... more>> to read it, give it a try. The translation was also good. Too good that I never failed to catch the annoying parts. <<less

Alright giving a 3 star is being generous here. First of all, the people that like this book obviously like other media like Killing Stalking or things with r*pe and stockholm syndrome. I went into this novel thinking it was a light read. And it was for 80 or so chapters.

Spoiler

yet after Gu Hai kidnapped and r*ped this innocent Bai Luo Yin, I was determined to give the author one huge middle finger.

[collapse]

It was a light hearted read for the first 70 chapters. Their relationship wasn't too crazy, and I let some things go. In fact, I loved their playful banters and funny moments. There were times when Gu Hai would look at Bai Luo Yin with fascination and Bai Luo Yin would find himself doing things for Gu Hai that normal friends wouldn't do. It was unique and it touched on some LGBTQ struggles, and their friendship slowly grew to be this glowing ball of sincerity. It reminded me of 19 Days' Mo Guan Shan and He Tian pairing. It was sweet and the time they spent together touched my heart close to home.

Spoiler

Yet the author absolutely shat on all of it at ch. 80 or so when both characters found about about their parents' marriage to each other and Gu Hai just turned full yandere and kidnaps Bai Luo Yin and r*pes him. The story took a full 180 and at that point the writing went from childish melodrama to "ok, this is absolute bullsh*t." I don't know if the author wrote this just to vent her s*xual frustrations but I will never read this again. Even worse, good characters like Jin Lu Lu could've been redeemed! I liked Jin Lu Lu from the very start when she was independent and could handle herself and others well. Yet the author ruined her too by making her a clingy girlfriend who just wanted to stir up drama and make Gu Hai "jealous" by getting "caught" cheating. You know what could've happened? Jin Lu Lu could've been chill and backed out of the relationship herself when she saw Gu Hai neglecting her and instead support Bai Luo Yin and Gu Hai's relationship at a distance. Not go on a rampage and cry like there's no tomorrow everytime she entered the scene. Such a strong character getting trampled like that is unacceptable. And the whole "teenage rebellion" thing was taken wayy too far in this novel. Gu Hai and Bai Luo Yin both couldn't stop tr*shing their married parents, going as far as to move out and rent a place wITH THAT PARENT'S MONEY.

[collapse]

This whole novel could've been a masterpiece. LGBTQ struggles could've been discussed, and the whole thing could've been so much less dramatic. Anyways that's all I have to say. I'm going to regret bad mouthing the author, but for now I'm dropping this and I hope that those who find r*pe and kidnapping romantic get therapy. <<less

One of the best BLs I've read. To each their tastes but for me it checks all the boxes. I has a silly love fool, lots of angst, some action and all with some smut on top.

Without forgetting the silly scenes of the side characters that even though don't always make sense are funny to me and especially thickens the novel and make you just merge with their lives and really visualize their world with how much details is put it.

I'm dying ngl. Seriously thought it would've been really addicting, but it's so bland and mediocre. The pacing is ultra slow, and it doesn't have entertaining and decent characters to make up for the time it spent to develop their 'relationship'.

So, because I was so bored (and quite disturbed by the characters) I skipped from book 1 Ch.85 to book 2 and read book 2 till Ch.79 before dropping it. When I skipped I had hoped for book 2 to be better but alas it disappointed my (already low) expectations... more>> for the plot and characters.

Book 1 was really boring, slow paced and not addictive at all. It makes me want to choke on how the characters are so twisted and doesn't seem to have any human common sense at all.

People say in book 2 there's some sorta character development but I don't see it at all. GH and BLY are still childish and still couldn't communicate properly like a normal functioning couple. Instead, they go around causing misunderstandings and hurt each others feelings (and solve those 'misunderstandings' to the extreme)

Initially in book 2 I quite enjoyed it because of the angst, but then it gets repetitive and very annoying. I'm so tired of reading this book and wished I had never came across it.

And please, don't romanticise the toxic relationship between GH and BLY (as it is highly apparent in this book)

That wedding was goddamn beautiful. :')

[collapse]

The maturation of their relationship is really quite profound. In Vol. 1, they’re just two h**ny teenagers, stubborn as heck, full of unnecessary angst that made me sigh in frustration but unwittingly kept my focus glued to the story. GH is much more crazily excessive and unreasonably arrogant; there are instances of r*pe and some very violent confrontations where he tortures/almost kills the people who ‘hurt’ BLY.

But 8 years later in Vol. 2, they’re both now grown, whilst still keeping their stubborn personalities and endless bickering. GH is notably less yandere, allowing his consistent one-track infatuation for BLY to shine through. Some really touching lines in amongst the hilarity that really make me believe that GH and BLY are two existences that were born to be together. Like my goodness, some of these lines are like poetry daggers that dig right into your heart...

Spoiler

“The night sky gradually infiltrated Gu Hai’s eyes, it was filled with determination and tenderness. Perhaps tomorrow morning, Bai Luo Yin would tell him that he didn’t remember anything. But Gu Hai won’t be able to forget this moment forever. At this night, on the rooftop, one guy was crying his heart out to him, saying that he wants to be loved.”

Massive props to the author and translators~ <3

Man they eat the weirdest sh*t though... sheep’s tail, kidneys, sea cucumber, pig trotters, BULL PIZZLE, DEER ANTLER?!?!

And umm... can I also borrow “Methods to Flirt with a Man’s Ass” for personal research purposes plz.

Spoiler

BLY's mom and GH's dad remarried. The two step-brothers, who have never met, both opposed the marriage and rebelled. GH ran away and BLY rejected joining the family. By some twist of fate, GH and BLY end up as classmates without knowing their relationship. Instead, they build a strong friendship from a short-lived initial rivalry.

That's pretty much the premise of the story. As a disclaimer, I've not seen the drama, so my perception of the novel is contained to just that.

The writing itself wasn't anything extraordinary but it wasn't terrible. There's barely any plot at the start. It's just a blooming relationship with all the fluff that comes with self discovery. Something vaguely resembling conflict hits around the ch120 mark and I got excited for a bit, but the resolution came quickly and felt cheap. I'm still confused about the mother's motivations because it seems like she's coming from a good place but the MC and ML are very self righteous about her villification, so maybe I'll get my answer in the later chapters.

Besides ML and MC, the other characters had potential but fell short and instead came off flat. There's a hint of a side story happening but it's a painfully slow development that by ch140 all I know is that a side story is supposed to be happening but it's just not.

Dropping this because I'm looking for something more adventurous and exciting, but I'm happy to pick it back up again when I'm in the mood for some slowburn slice of life.

Read this if you're looking for something to pass the time.

finished 7/19. This novel is purely comedy don't take it seriously. It's a nonsensical novel about 2 chars who somehow love each other way too much. It was entertaining, nice to pass time. But a lot of things the author did made no sense. Like the military thing and gh's brother and stuff but oh well it's really not serious at all. The writing is arguably not great but it's like readable. Also the r*pe scene was actually so ooc and weird asf, it was even weird in the context... more>> of the whole story I don't get why the author made it so horrid I just pretended it never happened <<less

actually, I want to rate 3 stars but I accidentally click 4.. Anyways, I read this novel because of the series that aired in 2016. Tbh, I really addicted to the drama series and the drama also make me watched other Chinese bl dramas.

abt the novel, it's kinda good

except the r*pe scene

[collapse]

both ML and MC are annoying tbh because they cant discuss abt their problem nicely.. Both of them are selfish..

on the other half of why I like this novel is because how BLY is such a cold-hearted person yet he still loves GH but he didn't dare to say it out loud. Ik how it feels for that kind of person like BLY to say I love you out loud to his lover. Eventho they both r stubborn but I love how they sacrifice themselves to stand up for their relationship.

Spoiler

i love the scene where BLY met GH's uncle. The most one is when BLY shouting ily because GH got into the hospital.. I cried out loud that night because he finally said those words

[collapse]

lastly, I'm half regret reading this novel but I will read the sec book <<less

This is my favorite BL novel to date. I watched the series, and loved it. That’s also when I discovered to ALWAYS watch the series before reading the novel. I know. It’s backwards from the typical always read the book ideals I hold true! But. In these cases, I feel I would have been horribly disappointed in the series if I had read the novel first. The censorship of Chinese media is well known, and I’m glad I saw the series first, then went on to read this masterpiece. I... more>> love how detailed, and in depth it is in regards to the characters development. You follow the characters for well over a decade! I loved it. Fantastic story. Suspenseful. Engaging. This is my very first BL novel and one which got me hooked on the genre. It sure lives up to its name. I started reading it after the live adaptation ended abruptly and got hooked. It's good, however some parts are very much exaggerated and overdramatic that I can't simply brush over them (well, this is one of my pet peeves). This is where the minus one star comes from, lol.

Mediocre at best. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea? Or maybe I just set my hope's up too high on being 'addicted' to it? Hmm... Either way, it seemed very bland. I don't see the major appeal of this novel...

I mean, the plot was okay. The characters? Other than the MC and ml, were forgettable. And overall, the pacing was meaninglessly slow.

Dropped this but I might continue it later if I ever run out of things to read. Maybe my opinion of it by then will change.

I started reading this novel after I watched most of the episodes on the drama. If you watched the drama this novel is a must read.

This novel is actually very heartwarming for me despite the different reviews I've read that says it's just full of lusts I believe it's not exactly true. Yes, it indeed contain lots of smuts but you can't neglect the fact of it having a lot of themes.

I don't know how many times I cried by reading this and it's not me overreacting but there are... more>> just times where I can relate.

I'm actually reading this for the second time now for I really can't get enough of this. I'm just so ADDICTED!! <<less

I had just finished watching the drama. Really a good interesting watch with exciting new actors. Addictive for sure so it would mean me reading the novel next to find out the rest of the story. I hope it will be as good as the drama and if not more. Since this is a BL story, I am expecting it to have some 'interesting' interactions and not too many fillers with things and people who have nothing to do with the romance of the two main characters.
